  1. Yeah, and Roger just got in a car wreck in (I think) London somewhere. So if he's the keyboardist tonight, he's intentionally throwing us off for fun.

Could it really be Lol? This is nuts. I'm so confused!

    ReplyDelete
  2. Roger on Twitter:
Thanks everyone I'm fine bit sore but luckily I have the weekend free to recuperate! The other car not so good http://yfrog.com/h2oyyeyj

    ReplyDelete
  3. I love Roger! He's the best! : )

Though the car crash is true, unfortunately.

    ReplyDelete
  4. i'm sure all my curey peeps will have a BLASTival

    ReplyDelete
  5. Poor Roger.. I love how nothing phases him.. :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. Hmm, keyboard? The plot thickens...

    ReplyDelete
  7. As I lay me down to sleep
    a thought for all my Cure-y peep(s)
Have a blast on the Isle of Wight
    On this very special night
May RSX and all the boys
Lull you with their wondrous noise
That all your wishes all come true
As they play music just for you
And above all else, I hope that Bestival
    Is a truly magical festival!!!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Goodnight, Jo. Lots of photos and videos for you when you wake up tomorrow. : )

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'm signing off too..
can't hold my eyelids up any longer.. :p

    Wonder what tomorrow will bring?!??
It's not Christmas already, is it?.. o_O

    ReplyDelete
  10. Goodnight, Tim. Plenty of presents under the tree in the morning. : )

  12. I could almost bet that Porl will be playing at Bestival. If that wasn't the case, Robert would have announced it earlier. Much like the other bands do; Interpol had quite a few changes in their lineup during the last couple of years and they kept their fans informed all the way through.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Wow 4 piece with a keyboard definitely means an interesting setlist, at least something different from the 4tour. I seriously doubt they'd be doing Reflections again (especially at a festival), looks like the Cure fans there are in for a treat!

    ReplyDelete
  14. This is the most secret line up ever!!! amazed no official announcement.... saying that, i can't remember if the 4 piece (RS, PB, SG and BW) for XFM in 93 was made public until the show...

    ReplyDelete
  15. I don't know everyone in that pic! Can we get a who's who up in there? :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. The fact that they reverted back to the old early 80's logo makes me very excited for what's coming tonight!

    ReplyDelete
  17. i listen yesterday and today bestival radio and dont broadcast any of the festival, anyone highlight anyone song, only music, someone know if the radio broadcast something?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't think they are broadcasting anything live over the radio. Just the TV coverage. Maybe they will broadcast some of it later?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Its cold! But at least its not raining!

    ReplyDelete
  20. (Hola Craig:) The buttons look awesome, I want some too...maybe Rev or someone will see this and bring a few extra back for us :P

And in all my Cure years guys, I have never seen a Robert Puppet! So cool.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The best set-up for me would be Porl on guitar and keyboard, like the mid-eighties era.

Second would be Lol on keys for the classic sound. Hell, Tolhurst on drums would be even better...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Just checking in to say hello to all!

I've got some things I'm gonna do today so I can't join in a live chat, but I am very excited to say the least.

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hey Andy. No worries. We'll have it all setup for you when you get back. : )

    ReplyDelete
  24. You know what I had completely forgotten about?

There's still a chance there might be a taper/bootlegger out there who will record the show audio. Nice!

    ReplyDelete
  25. i wouldn't get your hopes up about there being much (if any) of the set shown live on sky arts. from experience of watching their coverage of other festivals over the summer you will just see two or three pre-recorded songs from the set at the most, and maybe an interview.

    ReplyDelete
  26. omg the shirts are beautiful... is it possible to get them somewhere online? :/

    ReplyDelete
  27. Agreed. That was actually the first Cure shirt I ever bought. At my first Cure show, Kissing Tour July 25th, 1987 in New Orleans. : )

    ReplyDelete
  28. Helllllo everyone! Long time no talk for most of you.

Roger in a car wreck? Geeze, I should really get Twitter! Here's what I know: Roger is not at home, and won't be until the 16th. When I told him to have fun, he said, "Oh, we all will!" I thought it sounded suspicious, and it started to get me wondering if he could be playing...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hello! That Roger sure is a trickster. You never know what's true and what's not. ; )

    ReplyDelete
  30. I thought he might at least be going to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well he wanted to go, but couldn't get a ticket. ; )

    ReplyDelete
  32. hallo from me too, here from vienna. i'm also curious what´s coming up. cheers. have fun all of you at bestival. g*

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hi everyone.

Saying hello to all the fans around here.

I´m so excited to see what kind of surprises the band will give us tonight.

Could we set our hopes in a higher level Craig or no?

    ;)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Greetings to our friends in Vienna and Mexico! : )

    Mad Bob - I don't think we could! Not yet. : )

    ReplyDelete
  35. Car crash was true. Hurt his neck.

    ReplyDelete
  36. As for the rest of his shenanigans...2 hours to go. : )

    ReplyDelete
  37. Unless Roger now plays with his neck... he's good with smoke curtains, though. Or some people like to be fooled until the last moment.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ok Craig.Thanks.

Better wait and enjoy the things as going.

Lol, i thought the cuurent in UK was 8.50 pm but my mistake... 2 more hours left.

    :P

    ReplyDelete
  39. Okay, Robert didn't perform with Crystal Castles, so, does anyone think that he might perform with The Japanese Popstars?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I would doubt it. If he didn't do it with CC, which was before playing a 2.5 hour show, and on the same stage, you would have to think it's unlikely that he would want to run over to another stage and do it with JP, after such a long set.

But we can still hope, right?

    ReplyDelete
  41. My cousin is in the crowd. He has gone beyond "excited" to MEGA excited. Wish I was there!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. My cousin is in the crowd. He has gone beyond "excited" to MEGA excited. Wish I was there!!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think Robert should take risks and do some unusual things more often like playing as a guest in the bands he'd collaborated with.In this case CC & Jap Popstars.

    He has nothing to lose!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Rob da Bank and then...THE CURE!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Very excited to see who's on keyboards!

And very excited to see how the setlist plays out. Think they'll open with "Open"?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Mmm i think real options are Plainsong or Open as opener but after looking at the pic that sent perfect.murder i feel UTS wil matchs perfectly.

    ReplyDelete
  47. It'll be Under the Stars - followed by Plainsong.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Shake Dog Shake. Mix it up a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Shake Dog Shake would be a great opener too, Craig!

Heck, "Want" would be great to hear live again, as well.

    ReplyDelete
  50. although i won't be able to record or stream what is shown on the sky arts channel more than happy to let you know what is shown - and if there is an interview, what is said.

    ReplyDelete
  51. get the place rocking .open with 100 years !!!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. IM DYING!!!!!! So excited to listen in.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I feel like I'm mentally pacing, waiting for this to get started. I can't wait! And it's weird, because I thought I would just feel super depressed that I'm not there.

    ReplyDelete
  54. sky arts will show play 2 songs ...programme finishes at 12 and last night they showed last 2 from pendulum ..hopefully more tonight as we all know everyone is there to see the mighty machine that is THE CURE , also ebay have THE cURE tshirts on sale for £10 ........mens and womans

    ReplyDelete
  56. Does everyone have their F5 key at the ready?

    ReplyDelete
  57. alright, time to start. let's go updates!

    ReplyDelete
  58. @shawn, for me it's command+r (if we're refreshing), but yep, i am readddy

    ReplyDelete
  59. OMR!!!!!! DYING!!!! SOOOOOO FREAKING ENVIOUS

    ReplyDelete
  60. Roger, you crafty man...

    ReplyDelete
  61. at cureconnections i'm reading plainsong + roger? true?

    ReplyDelete
  62. so wish i was there :(

    Chimes Shiver!

    ReplyDelete
  63. so are we saying robert/simon/roger/jason?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Best opener ever! So now, who's in the band tonight???

    ReplyDelete
  65. it really is crazy, a few years ago i would have never guessed roger would be coming back.

    ReplyDelete
  66. but just robert on guitar, right?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Plainsong...OMG, I love it. I can almost imagine being there right now.

    I miss them.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I always thought he would. These things happen...

    ReplyDelete
  69. Yes, Lindsey. Robert, Jason, Simon, Roger. : )

    ReplyDelete
  70. Do we have it confirmed that Porl is NOT playing?

    ReplyDelete
  71. @Anah, i don't know, he was just kind of bitter for a while, you know?

    ReplyDelete
  72. is anyone able to listen??? I think Kel and I have the wrong link.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I see your post now, Craig. I posted too soon!

    ReplyDelete
  74. There is no live audio/video stream, guys.

    ReplyDelete
  75. i know that having roger back on keys is great news for so many, but no porl :(

    ReplyDelete
  76. Craig what happened to the LIVE FEED?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Open then Fascination Street. Love it!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Yeah, I'm happy and sad at the same time. I love both Roger and Porl.

    ReplyDelete
  79. jazzmaster, fender bass vi, gibson chet atkins?

    ReplyDelete
  80. i love open! & no matter how often they play it, i lovelovelove fascination street

    ReplyDelete
  81. Roger you are the man! Would loved to have seen porl also.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Disintegration and Wish songs without Porl aren't the same. Maybe next time...

    ReplyDelete
  83. There was never a live feed, just tv coverage in the UK.

    ReplyDelete
  84. just got a mail (best kept secret) from roger (mailing list) that he is playing (as we now all know) at bestival;-)

    ReplyDelete
  85. I like when Robert plays more guitar.

So the whole car accident thing was just a ruse? Dang Roger! a lot of people were really worried for you...

so wish i was there :)

    ReplyDelete
  86. ...Maybe part of the way through, Robert will be like, "Ladies and gentlemen, Porl Thompson!" And he'll slowly start rising up through fog and lasers.

...Yeah, like The Cure does stuff like that. Haha.

    ReplyDelete
  87. this maybe the right beginings to a 4-hour set!

    ReplyDelete
  88. that is what he wrote: Yes I am on stage playing with the band again and hopefully 15 minutes in I haven’t played any wrong notes!

Robert asked me about a month ago to play Bestival and I was very happy to say yes. Playing these songs again, old friends, being up on stage with Robert, Simon and Jason who are really family to me, it is all right.

Looking forward I’m sure there will lots of exciting Cure projects in the future which I am very excited to be a part of again...

    ReplyDelete
  89. Yes! Roger is back, Keyboards are back and no Porl!!! Great!

    ReplyDelete
  90. I love Porl. I mean, I really love him. But I just knew that Roger would be back, for however long that may be anyway.

I am sure there will be bits and pieces of tonight's show(if not the whole thing) up somewhere in a few days.

So we have Plainsong for opening and then Fascination Street second? Nice.

    ReplyDelete
  91. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  92. i'm so excited for everyone there! but i do have to ponder a little bit on the one guitar situation - for open, wish era, there was robert & porl & perry - so i've gotta wonder how it's sounding with just robert.

    ReplyDelete
  93. If you have April on your FB, she just posted this:

    http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150294429636713&set=a.196670631712.135884.637066712&type=1&theater

    (hope that works...)

    ReplyDelete
  94. are they just redoing festival 2005 ?

    ReplyDelete
  95. Apparently Nigel Tufnel will come on for FTEOTDGS.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Ouch. One guitar and it's a Schecter? The setlist is good so far, but I am worried about the sound.

    ReplyDelete
  97. @Lindsey i was thinking the same thing, will be the first time many of these songs have been played with just one guitar.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Go! If you want to...End of the World now.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Lovesong now.

From JC: Loving simons black bass with red and green decals

    ReplyDelete
  100. You know, I actually like EOTW. It holds a special place in my heart because

    1) It was the first single released after I became a Cure fan. Actually it was pretty serendipitous that I became a Cure fan juuust before they released a new record and went on tour.

    2) I have a prop from that music video.

    ReplyDelete
  101. From JC: Eden Gallup and im pretty sure Mary watching from stage side

    ReplyDelete
  102. god my 1st concert was poole arts centre in sept 1985 .god i feel old now lol

    ReplyDelete
  103. I'm so happy Roger is back and it seems that he'll be a permanent member but so so sad about Porl even if it was obvious he had gone. My heat is bleeding...

    ReplyDelete
  104. ad,
Don't feel old! I'm just young, and therefore late to the game :).

    ReplyDelete
  105. my 1st lp brought was the top .played until the needle needed replacing lol

    ReplyDelete
  106. I *wish* I could've been around during the "glory days" ...and before.

My parents are big Cure fans now thanks to me, but I feel it's a shame that they didn't capitalize on all those wonderful years of Cure music when they could've.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Maybe In Between Days next?

    ReplyDelete
  108. at the moment sky srts are showing somebody called katy b. robert s would be so much better.

    ReplyDelete
  109. NEVERMIND.

    Ugh indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Maybe the way to think of it is that the band is like a sports team. You have team members but not everyone plays every game. The band has consistently had people sit out from time to time only to return...does that mean they were "off the team" or just not playing that day?
Porl was there in the beginning came back in 84 left in 93 came back in 2005. Boris came back for the acoustic hits. Michael Dempsey came back for the BDC 86 video. Roger came back(twice)...Lol this year too. Simon was on the bench for 18-24 months once. I think the line up changes because you cant have a 9 man rock band so RSX mixes and matches from project to project based on his needs and other peoples availability.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Anah, I think that she was cheering Porl being out of the band again.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I don't know why this makes me think of it, but I really need to find the Vegas bootleg again. I lost it when my computer died over a year ago, and I really want to listen to the extra-special version of In Between Days again.

What an odd show that was! The energy was just a bit off, and then there was the "problem" at the end of the show... maybe I shouldn't be surprised that Porl is absent now?

    ReplyDelete
  113. With the keyboards, Prayers for Rain and Same Deep Water as You would be perfect

    ReplyDelete
  114. i wonder if push is sounding drum-machined-y like it sometimes does.

    ReplyDelete
  115. My peeps better be jumping as high as they can for PUSH! WOOHOO!!!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Push has become one of my favorite songs to hear live.

It's a festival, so playing so many singles makes sense, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  117. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  118. @Cureheart same deep water is ALWAYS perfect

    ReplyDelete
  119. ghanisbuli, I MIGHT have that show.

    ReplyDelete
  120. So far the setlist is typical for a festival.Hope they get "darker" soon.

    ReplyDelete
  121. @Lindsey - most definitely! My two faves.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Is this Las Vegas from the 4:13 Dream tour? What was the problem at the end of the show?

    ReplyDelete
  123. From Olivier: Clear skies, full moon, great crowd.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Shawn,

Email me! I would much appreciate it if you do :). ghan.is.buli@gmail.com

Or else I'll have to try to dig it up at Curefans.com or something.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Go on, go on, just walk away...Inbetween Days now.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Las Vegas was a special one-off (or, I guess two-off because they played Coachella the next night).

The concert ended abruptly with several encores left unplayed, and Robert ended up with a mysteriously injured hand.

No one was allowed backstage, not even those with passes.

    ReplyDelete
  127. It's just your part in the Play For Today. : )

    ReplyDelete
  128. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  129. ghanisbuli, if I have it, then it's on a drive at my apartment, so I'll look when I go back there tonight.

Vagabond Sun, they had to cut the encores short because one of Robert's guitar strings had snapped and whipped him on one of his hands. It began swelling and eventually became too painful for Robert to continue.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Shawn,

According to Eden Gallup, Robert's injury was not caused by the guitar string.

According to my dad, (who was a paramedic for years, if that adds any credibility) it looked like an injury from punching something.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Wow, I never knew that. Was everyone guess that Smith and Thompson got into it? The full band of the time played and few days later and they only played one additional encore at Coachella until the plug was pulled.

    http://www.cure-concerts.de/main/2009.php

    ReplyDelete
  132. who knows. can we believe that was like 2 1/2 years ago?

    ReplyDelete
  133. @Vagabond Sun well we didn't know about porl 'til much later.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Why would Robert have punched anything during a show? I can see 20 year old Robert doing such a thing, but not 50+ year old Robert.

    ReplyDelete
  135. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Under the full moon must be so sweet. What a high

    ReplyDelete
  137. I don't really believe that Robert and Porl got into a punching match.

They had sound troubles that night, the wrong song started... frustration? I'm not saying that it definitely is a wound from punching. I should've said that the type of injury appears consistent with a punching injury.

    ReplyDelete
  138. It could even be a swelling due to some kind of arthritis or something. Keef has horrendous fingers due to that, btw.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Well, whatever the case may be, The Cure played a long set two nights later, so Smith's hand must not have been that bad...

    ReplyDelete
  140. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  141. His hand was super swollen at Coachella. He's a trooper.

    Cortisone shot ftw!

That show looked like a lot of fun. Much better energy.

    ReplyDelete
  142. This set is looking pretty weak so far.

    ReplyDelete
  143. with all my respect to anyone's opinion, any setlist will sound weak after Reflections.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I liked it in 2000 when Robert said, more or less, "Screw the festival atmosphere," and played what was essentially an abbreviated regular Dream Tour show at the festivals.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Yeah, it seems like tonight, they decided to drop a bunch of hits first to get it out of the way....

    ReplyDelete
  146. IMO.. the Cure don't have a "weak set list".

    ReplyDelete
  147. Shake Dog Shake - don't forget the bridge C-;...

    ReplyDelete
  148. Was not expecting Hungry Ghost. Love that song!

    ReplyDelete
  149. 'The Hungry Ghost'? Okay, now the band seems to be on a decent run.

    ReplyDelete
  150. I'd love it if they played The Holy Hour.

    ReplyDelete
  151. I wonder how 'THG' sounded with keys.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Oh, how I would love to hear The Hungry Ghost with keys!

    ReplyDelete
  153. I'm sure there will be hundreds of clips on Youtube tonight/tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Hungry Ghost was the high point of 4:13 Dream for me!

    ReplyDelete
  155. From Perfect.Murder: "Ripping through 100yrs!!"

    ReplyDelete
  156. probably nearing the end then (pre encore)

    ReplyDelete
  157. Hoping they close with Disintegration. Double opening songs, double closers?

    ReplyDelete
  158. And there it is...Disintegration to close the set.

    ReplyDelete
