Vivid curator Stephen Pavlovic on The Cure

Vivid Live Festival curator Stephen Pavlovic on why he booked The Cure (from The West Australian): "It was a 100 per cent selfish motive. I love them... I have always been a major fan," he said."They are very emotive and expressive. They recognise that the world doesn't exist on sunshine alone."...."I would say that The Horrors have captured the look. Interpol has captured the vibe, but no one has captured the magic. And that's why The Cure stand alone as The Cure." (Thanks David)

  1. Good quote right there "...."I would say that The Horrors have captured the look. Interpol has captured the vibe, but no one has captured the magic. And that's why The Cure stand alone as The Cure."

  6. The horrors capture the look and vibe. Interpol lost their way long ago..

  7. Chip: After seeing Interpol live 9 times in the last 6 months, I have to completely disagree with you. They've never been better.

  8. Okay, Hannah, Andrew, and Kate, time for Doctor Who now. : )

  9. Craig: respect your opinion, but the horrors capture cure elements where I've never heard or saw any cure elements in Interpol. They have a more joydivisioneworderstrokesness.

  10. It's quite ironic how Australia gets this show, as "Three Imaginary Boys" has never received an official Australian release; it was released and rereleased under the altered "Boy's Don't Cry".

  11. 3IB was released in AUS on Stunn. I have it on vinyl.

    BDC was a USA compilation.

    It was released here too.

  12. 3IB reissues were also released through Warner Music Australia while The Cure were still with Fiction.

  13. Haha ssshhh everybody its Who time. I actually enjoyed this weeks episode more than I think I should have. It had major plot holes, the whole third act made no sense to me at all...But I thought it was funny, it had great production design and it was very fun to watch. And I loved all the beard talk.

Oh and Lilly Cole and Karen Gillan together? Two smoking hot gingers...Heaven

  14. Thanks explodingboy, I thought the Stunn copy was available from NZ only, and I've only seen the reissues as imports. Thanks for clearing that up.

  15. Yeah, the new 2 disc remastered deluxe reissues are imports...

  16. @chipdandy @craig i never understood the interpol-cure connection. they sound nothing alike to me, at all. i'm not an interpol fan at all, it's just not my thing, but i can see why people like them. what i don't see is any relation to the cure though. the horrors, on the other hand - no idea who they are.

  20. Cool, thanks for that folks, I guess it fly right under my radar. I'm fairly young (Lol hasn't been in the band since I've been alive), so I'm unsure of the different vinyl releases that have come out, and had only heard about it in conversation about the topic. Thanks!

  21. Hi, Grinderman.
For great info on Cure vinyls (and cd`s) take a look at Darren Butlers book "The Cure on Record".

  22. Anyway, which songs are you looking most foreward to hear?
From a musical point of view I can`t wait to hear how they perform Final Sound, Three and A Reflexion.
Otherwise it will be great to hear Secrets, which haven`t been played since 85. Doubt is not a great song, but still it will be fun to hear.
