Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House presents
The Cure “Reflections”

180 mins (2 intervals)
Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House
Tickets $109 – $180 sydneyoperahouse.com / 02 9250 7777

Well, the Sydney Morning Herald leaked it early...The Cure will play 'Three Imaginary Boys', 'Seventeen Seconds', and 'Faith', in their entirety, each night, as part of Vivid Live at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall. They will be joined for part of the show by Lol Tolhurst and Roger O'Donnell!

A quote from Robert in the NME: "We have played a lot of memorable shows in Australia, we first performed here in 1980, and this will be our seventh trip – but it will be our first time onstage in the Sydney Opera House," said singer Robert Smith. "We want to do something unique to mark the occasion … combining The Cure members past and present in a live filmed interpretation of our first three albums. Feels to me like it should do the trick."

Stories are also posted at Slicing Up Eyeballs, Pitchfork, NME, CoS, West Australian, Undercover, In The Mix, AntiMusic, Under the Radar, Kill Your Stereo, Sonic Seducer, Tone Deaf, Sonorika.

  2. Any chance this will be officially recorded for a DVD release?

  3. Is there any chance of this being officially recorded for future DVD release?

  4. I'm crying. The hype melts into teardrops as it's impossible for me to take part to such a wonderful event miles and miles away from me, stuck somewhere in Italy near Venice..

    ReplyDelete
  5. How great is that! But why is Australia so far away?

    ReplyDelete
  6. "the Cure in almost their original line-up will play their first three albums in sequence and in full"

Does this mean Simon will sing "Foxey Lady"!?

And this will be the first time that Doubt is played live!

    HD DVD please!

    ReplyDelete
  7. no Porl? no Roger?

and apparently no sleep for me!

  11. Are these going to be 30 minute sets?
    What about roger?

A lot is left unknown, I think we all figured out lol was in, uncle fester was out, and faith + 17 were going to be played, 3ib and no mention of roger is the only news here :(

    ReplyDelete
  12. But we still need to wait for the band to make this official right? God, this is killing me!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ah, they didn't name him, but we can guess... Dick Van Dyke?

    ReplyDelete
  16. jL: That news story doesn't tell all. Official press release will tell the whole story. No need to be sad. This is a fantastic event.

    ReplyDelete
  17. You lucky lucky Ozzies. Got to be a Trilogy DVD or download or something surely.

    ReplyDelete
  18. It will be good to see Lol back out there. Good times.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Honestly, this is so strange for this to be happening in Australia.
We're the country that gets left out of world tours, God this is incredible. I still say the happiest moment was waking up the morning after the first concert and knowing I have another one left.
I hope I get to see both shows, I'm so scared they'll sell out, but I'd honestly pay any amount. Jesus Christ this is strange for Australia.

    ReplyDelete
  20. @ Seth - I agree, good for Lol. A long time coming. Good for all of them, this sounds like it will be fun.

    ReplyDelete
  21. …now I see the meaning of the Cof's poll !

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yes really looking forward to the Official news, details about tickets, and such. Feeling really honored that the Aussies have a chance to see the 'reflections' trilogy so soon.

    ReplyDelete
  23. One things for sure, these are going to be some very fun & very memorable nights.

Did anyone ever think they would see RS, Simon and Lol playing together again? Amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Now go back and read that Always Keep The Faith post. Make sense now? See the hints more clearly? : )

    ReplyDelete
  25. i saw the trilogy concert in berlin. this was amazing. perhaps they play the whole kiss me or head on the door as an encore;-)

    ReplyDelete
  26. @ craig 'they didn't name him, so guess that's still a secret, but I'm sure everyone can guess.'

so frank bell is going to be there for the i'm a cult hero encore :)

  27. Also notice the post titles for the last 3 days. Another Day, The Funeral Party, Secrets. : )

And congratulations to J. for figuring it all out the other day! You are good!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Damn... so close. The "effects seem fleeting" skewed me in a Pornography direction. Old friends and traveling, very nice touch, Craig.

  35. @Graig

Do u know if more news & scoops will see the light of day in the days/weeks 2 come?

    thanx

    ReplyDelete
  36. So we've suddenly gone from a Cure with no keyboardist, to a Cure with 2 of them! Or at least for 2 shows. : )

    ReplyDelete
  37. I´m so excited about the events!

I want to know every detail..as well all of you. ;)

I´m hoping RS announce new dates and Mexico is included.

I can´t focus on the job...

It´s amazing to be CURE fan!

    :D

P.S. Please Robert, speak as loud as our hearts...

    ReplyDelete
  38. A fantastic way to return on stage. They will play some very rare songs in 3 whole albums... what an amazing event!!! I'm glad that it happens for fans that can rarely see them in their cities. Then it's obvious that i would like to be there, infact I hope it will be filmed!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Don't be too sad if you can't be there...wait for the announcement.

  43. @Craig

I´m very impatient,do you know if there will be new dates in 2011 besides Bestival & Sidney?

If so, Mexico is on the schedule?

    *biting fingers*

    :P

    ReplyDelete
  44. So many rare songs to be played at these shows! Everyone go! : )

    ReplyDelete
  45. It would be sweet if they played the Carnage Visors film before the Faith set...

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm trying to stay positive that no aussies will miss out... it's going to be a very intimate 2 nights, I'm really praying I can get a ticket to this.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Very intimate. 2,100 seats, maybe a little less or more, depending upon how they set up the stage.

Help each other out! If you can, buy the max number allowed and then resell them to Cure fans. Don't let the scalpers and brokers get them all.

    ReplyDelete
  48. no guitarist :\

will be very exciting to hear some of those songs though. who will sing foxy lady? haha.

faith live will be wonderful. as will the other two albums. everyone who goes will have a great time. i'm still kinda concerned about who exactly is in the band in the long term though.

    ReplyDelete
  49. How refereshing! Doubt hasn't been done live before...

Very much looking forward to the official announcement. Maybe more news to come?

Hope RS and co remember their roots in the UK and give us a chance to experiance the music live too

    ReplyDelete
  50. No guitarist? Better not let Robert hear you say that! : )

    ReplyDelete
  51. So, Porl's out eh? The Cure are like the KGB when it comes to keeping people in the loop.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Will they do The Weedy Burton? : )

These shows seriously need to be taken on tour!

Kate, can you imagine if The Cure did what The Church just did with their Trilogy tour? Wow!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Let's not forget that Robert was the only guitarist on these albums originally, he's perfectly able to pull them off by himself.

It will be a problem if they do songs that arn't on these albums though.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Exactly, Beau. RS is a very good guitarist.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Sad that porls gone but I hope he does another music project. The new line up won't disappoint I'm sure. And the setlist is going to be fantastic! Wish I could go! Happy for the aussies. Wonder if the weedy burton will be played....lolll

    ReplyDelete
  56. Needs to be pointed out again that there has been no official statement about Porl's future with the band.

    ReplyDelete
  57. So wish they would perform this at Bestival too but I'm pretty sure we will have no luck on that.

    Exciting stuff nonetheless!

    ReplyDelete
  62. yes, let's beat the scalpers! With a bit of team cure we've got each others back.

    ReplyDelete
  63. yes, now this is also good news for all of us who can't attend the two shows!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. So, since there seems to be quite a bit of reconciliation going around...any chance of a Chris Parry siting?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Give Lol at least one song on drums. Come on!

    ... this is fantastic ...

    ReplyDelete
  66. uh...that would be: sighting. :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. What none us knows at this time, is what might they do for encores? That could get really interesting!

    ReplyDelete
  68. I don't want a DVD

    I want a Blu-ray!

When are we going to get the Barcelona show?

    The SUNNY TRILOGY!!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Morris: I'm pretty sure there will be a Blu-ray, too, though no official word on that.

would be awesome if they had porl open up with them doing "heroine face"
    hahah

    ReplyDelete
  74. Encore request:

    Do The Hansa
    Splintered In Her Head

    ReplyDelete
  75. How great will it be to hear faith played live in the Sydney Opera House to close the set? Wow!

Think we'll get Forever at one of the shows?

    ReplyDelete
  76. an encore of the bsides of the era would be awesome...
and you just know simon is dying to do another journey by train :)

and world war would make cure fans explode. ;)

always the a-sides of the era too that aren't on the albums....
    BDC, Killing....

    ReplyDelete
  77. if "three" is really forever as many people say...
then its kind of a sure thing right?

although all the "forever" versions are better than "three" IMO

    ReplyDelete
  78. Also, for those going to the June 1st show, be sure to wish Simon a very happy birthday from all of us.
    : )

    ReplyDelete
  79. as i'm working at the vienna opera they should have contacted me for an european leg:-))))

    ReplyDelete
  80. now this is a great news:)

i can see roger fitting in a bit better.. in that context...

    ahhh,.... daydreaming...

oz airfare looks to be 1700$ for me... and my silly wife would want to come... easily be 5k
    bring on the blu-ray! 25$=done :)
    haha

    ReplyDelete
  82. At least we will get to see it later, Max. Maybe a Christmas present from The Cure. : )

    ReplyDelete
  83. yep Craig! And by the way, this is a great gift for all the aussie fans. I'm from Europe, and we have the occasion to see The Cure almost in every tour.
I only hope that the lineup (Jason, Simon, Robert) will be the same for a couple of years. After have see the band in full (5 or more) I'd like to hear them "as the old days". And for all those who ask for guitars or keyboards, please, take a listen to every bootleg from the 1980/1982 era and tell me if something is missing;)

    ReplyDelete
  84. Flights from SLC to Sydney are $1500. I'm half tempted to say what the hell and do it. What an exciting announcement!

    ReplyDelete
  85. I like the idea of the Sunny Trilogy, Morris!

    ReplyDelete
  86. I want to see ALL MY AUSSIE FRIENDS in the DVD!!! Jolise, Fuji, Brad - you better get up front!!! Make a sign (since I won't be there to make one) :( that say CHRIS (in the USA) LOVES THE CURE! And draw some damn roses on it or something! Lol! I am so happy for you Aussies! But jealous as hell!

    ReplyDelete
  87. After years of pain (since 2005) finally some good news.

The best one could be: Is Porl really gone? I hope so! Please stay away forever!!!

I promised myself to never go to a Cure show again (I left a show in 2008 early cos it was horrible!) but in that case? That would really change my mind!

I hope to see Roger again (at least on DVD or Blu-ray).

    ReplyDelete
  88. Come on, guys. This is a day to celebrate The Cure and to be happy and excited. No knocking any members of the band. Please?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Hopefully New York (Radio City Music Hall) will get Head on the Door, KM KM KM and Wish :)

    ReplyDelete
  90. I hope we don't have to wait 9 more years for another show like this.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Will the US then eventually get a THOTD, KISS ME X 3, and WISH tour? Also, worry not, Robert will be more than fine on the guitar.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Porl is an amazingly talented guitarist who was (and for all we know, still IS) an asset to the Cure. His distinctive sound added to the overall Cure sound. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed the latest incarnation of the band with him in it. I am glad they finally focused more on his guitar playing. In fact, I wish they let him do even more. If he is no longer playing in the band, I will miss him greatly.

All that notwithstanding, he is also a very kind person who really doesn't need you to say unkind things about him.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Not to be to negative or anything, but this just doesn't excite me in the least. Not at all. So, for me, the darkness continues. Oh well, maybe next time.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Damn Andrew! You're not gonna follow that with a "J/K" or anything? Wow. What WOULD excite you then? Just curious. :)

    ReplyDelete
  95. Andrew, I am kind of in the same boat as you. However, I am happy to hear something...and it is exciting! But, I will not shovel out thousands of dollars for this set. Maybe if it was in the US...or if it was the "Sunny Trilogy" would I go. But let me stress...I am so happy that the band is back at it and getting creative!

    ReplyDelete
  96. How about a LIVE STREAMING Webcast!

    How great would that be!!!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Tetralogy ????????

    2000Brisbane Exhibition Showgrounds
    2006Royal Albert Hall
    2007Brisbane Entertainment Centre
    2011Sydney Opera House ?????????????

    ReplyDelete
  98. Morris: I would doubt that, but Triple J are broadcasting live from the festival, I believe. Maybe we will get a small taste of it?

    ReplyDelete
  99. NOW you got it Morris!!! I LIKE THAT!! I'll have to take a vacation day to watch!! And MissDrea83 - are you the Andrea from Vegas??? And lol Swifty @ Tetralogy!

    ReplyDelete
  100. ok, i was also hoping for new material. this concert has nothing to do with creativity. to me it is more a form of reproductivity. but anyway: good to hear that the cure circus is still moving on. and i'm sure the concerts will be great! everyone of you who will attend it please enjoy it!

    ReplyDelete
  101. But this might just be that first step. Getting things rolling again. Get the creative juices flowing. Who knows what will come of this? See it as a beginning, not an end.

    ReplyDelete
  102. What would excite me? Well, they might start with releasing some of the 20 billion things they have promised and we never got. Maybe the anniversary DVD, In Orange on DVD and blu ray, maybe a good album that doesn't sound like it was produced on a cheap tape recorder. These are just some of the things that would excite me. However, the band reuniting with Tolhurst to play trilogy-like shows on the other side of the world and promising ANOTHER DVD just doesn't strike my fancy. What reason do I have to believe that I will ever see this DVD? You can't trust this band as far as what they say they will release. Time has demonstrated that to me.

    ReplyDelete
  103. that is how i see it. any good news from the cure camp is good news for the future of the band! and to be honest without your regular updates i would have lost faith in the band many years ago. your updates kept my flame burning! thanks for that and also robert should thank you for that.

    ReplyDelete
  104. We might want to be careful with the "Sunny Trilogy" talk... people catch the tail end of threads, and assumptions are made, and then it becomes something that never was that disappoints people who have come to think it might have been.

    ReplyDelete
  105. This show is really going to be the icing on my Quadrilogical Cake!

    ReplyDelete
  106. @ eric - i couldn't agree more with your comments about porl. his guitar playing on the 4tour was simply amazing and added so much to the band.
maybe he will return one day, but reading between the lines at the moment this seems unlikely.
however just hearing that the band are active again, regardless of the line up is good enough for me.
i understand andrew's point about another DVD, given the other projects he has mentioned that have yet to be released, lets just hope we get to see this one, and that this is the start of a productive and exciting period for the band we all love.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Well, I understand your frustration Andrew. Really I do. But one must have FAITH! I am probably the least religious person here - well probably not - but I always have FAITH in The Cure! I'm sure more things are to come. This is just the beginning!

    ReplyDelete
  108. I am SO THERE!

Craig, I also hate it when people knock members of the band at all! If you love the Cure's music, well hello - these are the people who created it!!!

People love to rag on Jason, for instance, but then turn around and hold up Bloodflowers as a Cure masterpiece. Well guess who the drummer was on Bloodflowers???

I LOVE ALL CURE MEMBERS - Past and present included!

    ReplyDelete
  109. The concerts will be sold out in an hour, right? I never manage to get ticket at small venues.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Rev! I KNEW you would be there!!! Call me when they play Drowning Man!

    ReplyDelete
  111. I can´t focus on the job...[2]

    ReplyDelete
  112. YES!!!!

    Just a thought, though.....

Is this the start of a long slow goodbye..?

Various shows like this - playing full albums in succession with relative band members - as a way to celebrate the band and finish on a high..?

    Hmmmmm.......

    ReplyDelete
  113. can somebody help me get tickets?! please!

    ReplyDelete
  114. "Don't be too sad if you can't be there...wait for the announcement."

craiiiiiiig. craig! were you talking about the dvd release there or something else there?

i might as well be constellations away from this concert, but i'm SO excited that it's even happening!
i wish i had the money...
that would require a good job.
    which would require more schooling.
i need to look at my life choices!
i need a PhD by the summer!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Anyone else having issues with the official site? It is going so slow!

    ReplyDelete
  116. I'm with Andrew on this one. The Dark Album, properly produced by someone that doesn't sound like he went off to lunch would make me excited. ADVANCING instead of revisiting. Orange on DVD please. Boris would make me excited but he wasn't there at that time so it wouldn't make sense. A new, well functioning keyboardist would excite me, or the return of Roger. All this starts on my birthday too, so if he sang Happy Birthday over Three I'd smile. Doubt live, good. So What? live, good. Other than that, ho hum can we please move on?

    ReplyDelete
  117. according to the official site roger will play on both seventeen seconds and faith but lol will only play on faith?

  120. Like I said, I'm truly not trying to be negative nancy here. Just honestly disappointed. I can say however, that I am happy for the people that are happy. : ) The band can't please all of us all the time. Maybe someday I'll be able to smile along with the rest of you.
Craig, have you heard anything else on the supposed Tim Pope anniversary DVD?

    ReplyDelete
  121. Wonder when and if Porl will be back?

  124. Yes - my heart skipped a beat when I first heard this news - then sank when I realized there was no way I would be able to pull this trip off. So I understand the dissapointment. I am happy for my Aussies though! Its about time they had something like this! Even though its "re-working" old stuff - its still an historic event!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Drea - yeah I too really want Porl to stay on!! He is such a a god on guitar! He will be missed if he does not return. Who will I stand in front of and gawk at? I guess I'll have to "settle" for RSx! ahhahaaa! After all - he IS my boo!

  126. who's going to make the COF loves the cure sign this time?

    ReplyDelete
  127. Damn, I have seen The Cure on Every Tour since Wish. I have never seen them perform my two favorite songs "All Cats Are Greay" and "Faith" If only I could afford to go to OZ my dreams would be fulfilled. Thanks God it is being recorded for video release, Finall a modern day soundboard recording of All Cats Are Grey...finally. I just wish they kept Porl, brought in Borris and fired Jason. I have no problem with Roger and Lol

  128. christinaP: i know it. i know. :\

  129. the official statement states:
    180 mins (2 intervals)

the three albums are far from being 1hour long each, will they add rarities as well?

    ReplyDelete
  130. Here's my take on the Porl situation.

Maybe Porl is gone for good, maybe he's not. The Cure are in their twilight years now (band-wise), and any show they play is a treasure. I don't care who is standing behind Robert, as long as they're playing Cure music. Everyone brings something different musically (even Lol).

I just think it's not that big of a deal to have someone else play shows here and there. Everyone knows the songs.

Not better or worse, just different--in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  131. i'm sorry, i didn't mean robert wasn't a good guitarist!
it will work fine for these shows, i just don't know what happens after that

    ReplyDelete
  132. Just kidding with you, Lindsey. : )

    ReplyDelete
  133. I am interested to see some of the show details shake out. Bob will have some choice to make.

What instrumentation will they use? For the Trilogy shows it was alleged that all attempts for original sounds and guitars etc.. would be made. That was accomplished to some degree but for the most part it was a mash of things.

Will they modify the running order of the tracks to create any more balance in the sets?

Will they play every song? This is where it gets interesting. There are some truly cack moments on the first record (So What/ Meat Hook/ Foxy Lady/ Weedy Burton). I could see them playing Meat Hook but the other three...especially Foxy Lady, I would be shocked if they played them. Robert has no problems taking liberties with his own catalog. Heck he often times isn't sure what songs came from which album. Those songs could easily be replaced with Boys Don't Cry and Jumping Someone Else's Train. However, will they play Killing an Arab given recent events? Even Kissing an Arab might be too dicey mayhap.

Also what about something like The Final Sound or Three? These could be skipped as well or Three could show up as Forever in an encore with the aforementioned 3IB singles and Charlotte Sometimes.

Faith is less problematic in terms of songs except that Doubt has never been played live before so that will be odd.

Also unless there are going to be b-sides included or extensive encores, these shows will be very short unlike the Trilogy shows. The first three records are all 35-38 minutes long so thats about 1 hour 45 before encores and really these days who is happy with shows that don't at least get to 2 hour 30. Trilogy topped 3 hours as have some random shows through the years.

My guess will be that some liberties will be taken with the album track lists and the encore may include the non-album singles I mentioned above and given the instrumentation available, some Pornography songs and close with Forever.

Only the Pacific lies between California and Australia but it is a very expensive ocean indeed so I will have to live vicariously through those who can make the hop but I thought I would share what has been rolling around in my brain this morning.

    Chris

P.S. If I'm Cold makes an appearance I will probably just lie down and die as it's my fave Dempsey era track.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Hmm that reminds me...whatever happened with the shows that were supposed to reunite the original line ups to preform their respective line ups? Why aren't Michael and Matthieu involved in this if these are indeed those shows. Why isn't Lol drumming?

    ReplyDelete
  135. i really really relly hope that Porl is still in the band, while i'll miss him at these shows i think it will be interesting to hear this new (proviional i hope) lineup.
    cant wait.

@Craig, do you know whats the info on Porl for after these shows??

    ReplyDelete
  136. another journey by train with roger on keys, the fender jazzmaster and bass vi.
Im just glad that Roger's gonna be there. By the way Robert's my favorite guitar player along Johnny Marr and guy call Paco Huidobro...

    ReplyDelete
  137. This is amazing news! So jealous of all who get to attend. Hope we get detailed reports so we know what happened! Hope too that there is a very loud Happy Birthday sing-a-long for Simon!!!

    ReplyDelete
  138. Hope Porl hasn't gone and wonder who/if the present/futur official line-up includes a second guitarist. Hope they'll keep playing as a 5 piece band because that's how The Cure sounds best. Hope Paris 2008 show will be released one day (I once ask the french company which did the film and they told me nobody bought the rights to release it as a DVD... would love to read Robert about that as the concert was ENORMOUS but maybe the film is no good).
Will they play the 3 albums each night ?

    ReplyDelete
  139. Yes, all 3 albums will be played both nights. It is being filmed, so that ensures some backup in case things go wrong on the 1st night.

    ReplyDelete
  140. If was RS I'd play 17 secs & Faith first then come back on with 3IB as the encore. After 15 pints of Fosters, that'd be great party music to end the night.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Before the Trilogy shows in Berlin, there was a warm-up show in Brussels. Could the band also do at least one warm-up show before the Sydney shows? If so, I think London would be an excellent choice. The fact that I live in London is just pure coincidence...

    ReplyDelete
  142. Nah, if they do a warm-up show, it will be in New Orleans. Has to be! : )

    ReplyDelete
  143. re: 180min. 3 hours, that seemed like more than enough time to play all three records, and some other material. But then I thought if they do as they did for the Trilogy shows, there will be instrument changes, a set of synths added for Seventeen Seconds, and another for Faith, line checks, etc. If they play the film of Carnage Visors (and there's no indication one way or the other) that's 27 or 28 minutes right there. So three albums with two 30min +/- changeovers adds up to about 3 hours....

    ReplyDelete
  144. Very, very happy to see Lol back with the gang, even for one night.

    ReplyDelete
  145. get rid of jason cooper and bring back andy anderson.Jason has no personality and his drumming technique is not that hot, i have had personal experience of meeting him, he was very unfriendly and he seemed very bored in the company of cure fans. He was dead from the neck up. Please bring back andy or boris and bring back porl and roger. Why does robert keep someone who makes so may mistakes and uses tape recordings, ie cannot play live. jason has been in this band way too long

    ReplyDelete
  146. Don't start with the Jason bashing. It really, really gets old. Take it to YouTube comments or a forum or something.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Any idea how tickets will be handled? it seems rather soon for them to be mailed, hopefully they could be emailed and printed out.

i wouldn't mind buying a pair to resell to a cure fan at face value.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Oh I'm so so excited for all you Australian fans!!!!!!! Very very awesome news!!! That'll be such a fun concert to be at!

    Disappointed I can't go, but I didn't expect to :P I'll just cross my fingers for a DVD :D

    ReplyDelete
  149. Haha i they do a warm-up show, it should be at Red Rocks. Another legendary concert hall, yeah?? And in the summer no less! :P

    ReplyDelete
  150. Okay, I change my vote. I go with Hannah on this one, warm-up at Red Rocks! Has to happen! : )

    ReplyDelete
  151. I wonder how much more traffic the Qantas website got today? And hotels in downtown Sydney? : )

    ReplyDelete
  152. "Don't start with the Jason bashing. It really, really gets old. Take it to YouTube comments or a forum or something."

    ^^^^ THANK YOU ^^^^

I hope the Jazzmasters, Bass VIs, Jazz Chorus, and the old Boss Pedals will be back to recreate the sound like they did with Trilogy bringing back the old gear... and with any luck will knock some sense into RS how how bad he's let the guitar sound get 2004 to present.

I just hope and pray that doing these shows makes RS realize how empty the band sounds without keys, and invites Roger, or anyone for that matter, to be full time with keyboards live.

    ReplyDelete
  153. has anyone mentioned that the 31st of May is a tuesday here not a monday? I hope it's the tuesday and thwe wednesday, cos I've got an exam tuesday morning 2 hours away.

    ReplyDelete
  154. So Craig can you shed any light on what lineup we are likely to get at Bestival...Is Roger likely to be there?

    ReplyDelete
  155. Craig, thanks for seconding my vote :P I haven't seen them live yet and Red Rocks is literally 20 minutes away, so it'd actually work x]

Also thank you for the no more Jason bashing! I love Jason he's awesome! :)

    ReplyDelete
  156. I am so so so so happy Roger is back.

It just leaves me thinking of Bestival... I will be going but will it be this 2 keyboard lineup or will a guitar be added. It surely must. :)

  158. I wrote to the festival to ask if they'll get for the max 2,679 capacity, so a little bit more australian fans would get in... I wish you'll get a chance, aussies.
Craig, do you know about Porl ? Selling guitars wasn't a good sign, so.... Can we expect other news regarding the dark side of 4:13D, more concerts to come, a brand new album, DVDs ?

    ReplyDelete
  159. I'm not sure if the Bestival lineup has been decided yet, other than RS, Simon, Jason. If it has, I don't know it. Maybe Robert will see how this goes and decide from there.

    ReplyDelete
  160. I was told only 2,000 tickets for each night. They can't do the max. # of seats because of the stage setup. Some of the seats would be behind the stage, and you couldn't see the band.

    ReplyDelete
  161. YES TO RED ROCKS! Was there for the 4Tour!

    ReplyDelete
  162. Hannah: I've seen The Cure a bunch of times, but never at Red Rocks. That place is so beautiful! Saw Depeche Mode there in 09.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Man i really wanted to see DM but it was wayyy too much $$ for me at the time! It sounded fantastic though!

The last band I saw at Red Rocks was Golgol Bordello, that was an entertaining crowd :P Really just a beautifully awesome place!

    ReplyDelete
  164. Warm up gig at Orange would also be nice.

    ReplyDelete
  165. So excited for all of you who can see these shows! Regardless of lineups, these are going to be amazing shows. If they do a us tour around these three cds that would be awesome...of course I would love to see a dis/wish/bloodflowers show, with all but club america from wms thrown in...a man can dream!

    ReplyDelete
  166. The info on the official site was posted by a discography member or another person but not by the man of the hour.

Knowing the previous times is expected that RJS makes a statement soon... and hopefully he´ll give us another surprises.

WE NEED A ALL CAPS-WRITTEN MESSAGE

    I think so.

    Craig, what do you think?

    :P

    ReplyDelete
  167. I live in Sydney and am worried about getting tickets now!
Both nights are being filmed for a DVD release so you don't all have to fly over for this! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  168. I second namepa's thoughts. What about Michael and Matthieu?

Also, hello to everyone here who was in Vegas in January!

    ReplyDelete
  169. Happy days for those who can go to this ... I wish I was with you but alas it's not to be this time.

    ReplyDelete
  170. so is Porl not in the band anymore???

    ReplyDelete
  171. Not for these 2 shows. Beyond that, no official word yet.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Thanks for everything, Craig!

Is this the first time "Doubt" will be played live? Have several bootlegs from the Picture Tour and "Doubt" seems to never be in the playlist.

    ReplyDelete
  173. I believe so, Van. Going to be such an amazing event!

    ReplyDelete
  174. Yes. Seriously.

Alot of people do not like Porls style.
Alot of people can't stand how he overuses the wahwah and distortion.

He's talented at what he does. Only problem is what he does, is make the Cure sound like something other than the Cure ever since RS let him do as he pleased when he rejoined in 05.

I'll leave it at that since it's a celebratory occasion.

Hopefully today begins a new era.

Hard rock and heavy metal fans had your fun from 04-10.
Hopefully 2011 and beyond the band will once again sound like the lush experience that we all came to love from the magic that was the prayer, wish, swing, dream, and 02 tours.

  176. And long live Porl!

As we see, no bridge is ever truly burned in The Cure, only singed a bit. : )

So if Porl is gone for now, it's only a matter of time before we see him again.

  178. Without quoting musical skills or talent (or the lack of it), it would be definitely interesting to see Lol on drums again, as it would if he could have participated in the Pornography set of Trilogy. But unfortunately it won't happen during JSET/AJBT... these old performances with Lol in an incredibly fast tempo (how I miss these fast beats...) are amazing. Porl wasn't much part of it, so it won't be really missed for this particular event. But for the future, they will certainly need another guitarist as Roger can only play harmonics...

    ReplyDelete
  179. He was tolerable on prayer. By wish he started making me sick, but as a whole the tour still had a good sound to it.

For example the early versions of the wish songs at T&C sounded so good live before porl butchered them in the studio with the obnoxious guitars.

He had less creative freedom before he rejoined, I tolerated him. But he was always my least favorite member. Severely dislike his style. By 2008 I was actually walking out of some shows by the encores. Guitar playing like that is not my thing.

There were only a handful of shows I enjoyed 05-09
RAH - because of the venue and the act was somewhat fresh, but it got real old real quick.
Radio city - again, venue made it nice.
Troubadour - seeing them in a club like that made me forget how bad the 4cure sounded
Mexico city - these were the only 3 that I thought were genuine good performances and made me feel anything close to the emotion I felt in the past.

Saw probably about 20-25 other shows from berlin in 05 up until vegas in 09, those all left me missing and wondering what happened to the live band that used to make spending insane amounts of money and time following the tours seem so worthwhile.

Have some hope in 2011 for the first time in a long time.
