Rumor: Cure play Rock en Seine Aug. 2011

Update: Looks like we can officially mark this one as wishful thinking/dreaming.

Happy (Vegan/Vegetarian) Thanksgiving! Here's something else to be thankful for...the first rumored live date for 2011 (translated from Zegut):

"In the last week of August 2011, the Park lands of St. Cloud, I'll see on the Main Stage of the Rock en Seine, Foo Fighters, The Strokes. And then I had a vision of a crow on acid, The Cure. As usual, all such statements self-destroy in 5 seconds, and I deny having written anything."

Just a rumor, and nothing confirmed just yet, so please don't buy tickets to the show based on this. Can any of our French friends help with this? How reliable is this blog? Does it sound like this is just a wish, or saying he's leaking real info that he has?
(Thanks Calmin)

  1. I'll translate the first part of the post that is missing here, and that is important I think :

"So before any precision, I am extrapolating. But many groups have already announced their presence in summer festivals of 2011, so I'll do my prognosis guided by some feelings/sensations, and some voices that speak to me in my sleep. Yes, I am Harry 'farter'!"(French play on words)

I don't really know what to think about it, all I know about Francis Zegut is that he's been a monument of music journalism on French radio, and that he loves The Cure. To me, It sounds more like a wish than a real info, but who knows...

  2. Thank you, Sylvain. Yeah, I don't know what to thin. That first part sounds like he's just saying which bands he'd like to see there, but the last part makes it sound like this is something he knows, but shouldn't be saying.

I will look into it and see what I can find out. Don't know about this specific show, but it will not surprise me to see them playing live shows next year.

  3. Ooohh!! I really hope this is a good sign of more shows around the world too... I'd die to see them live at least once :D

  4. Interesting, I’m with you Craig he could be saying something but with out saying something.... So Passive aggressive! ha!

hanners are you sure you want to start the addiction?

There is NO CURE for LIVE CURE other than LIVE CURE which only happens about every 4 years so you have MAJOR withdrawals!....BUT ITS SOOO WORTH IT! ;)

  5. Strange though. I mean who is The Cure right now? Would they even be able to play a gig and what (if anything) will they be promoting?

    Please let this be true.

  6. The Cure will continue because if they don't, they'll age very quickly. The fountain of youth is in the music, their lifeblood. Robert should know that. Styx, Journey, and bands of the like do it for money. And they look old (Stones for example). The Cure just have fun on their terms. Can't wait to see them in Hawaii.

If you click on the orange Más info banner, you get four pics - The Cure, Rage Against the Machine, Madonna, and Soundgarden. Seems like a ridiculous way to generate interest/ticket sales if those acts aren't appearing?

  14. I hope he decides to do some shows in 11'

It has been wayyyy too long!
And I still feel incomplete from the Palms show.

Been digging through old live recordings lately and decided to start a blog to share them:

I started with the Hamburg Dream Tour show, If anyone has any requests of a specific date, do let me know.

  16. "a crow on acid"?
sound's like he's trip'n ~ festival shows really blow (ravenous crowds, heat, crap line-up, all for 60mins of Cure oldies).
But w/ no new cd to promote, its unlikely they'd do anything but.

  17. Thanks jL! Enjoying the show now.

  18. I couldn't care less about this. Are they making any new music? It's been an awful long time since we heard anything new from the band. I'm tired of waiting 5 years between albums/tours.

  19. Off topic, but can someone tell me if they recall a black box that came out around the time of Wish, it had the cure in wish style font and was designed to hold all of their albums to that point, sometimes I think I imagined it, does anyone recall this?

  23. The Cure aren't expected to tour again until 2012 which would follow their typical 4 year off plan. However, as with past years such as 2009 there may be one off shows, etc.

They've been off the road a long time, and no word on that 'dark album' either.

I expect we'll start to hear inklings of a new album sometime in 2011, and probably see it released in 2012 with a tour then.

Bands like Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, The Cure... they have to be careful and not 'over tour'. The metal bands, and rock bands have a more loose following so bands like Def Leppard can tour every year with the same setlist and sell a lot of tickets.

The Cure is an 'event' tour which is why it is successful. But if they toured every year, or even two years they would never sell as many tickets. Same thing with Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, etc etc...

Bands don't need a new album to tour off anymore. The Cure could easily promote a 'greatest hits' tour and sell just as many tickets as when they tour for an album. Hell last time 4:13 wasn't even out and they toured!

I think The Cure has 2, maybe 3 big tours left in them. Remember RS is 51. I can't see him touring in his 60's but you never know!

  24. I am a huge Cure fanatic since 25 years, but I won't go in the same direction as many comments...
    I hope you understand why.

the only thing I hope is that Robert leaves the Cure as a band, and does after all his "dark album", by himself in a minimalistic way.
Eventually acoustic, only small venues, rare... like a Johnny Cash or a Nick Drake , yes.
    Now, That would be something.

Far from those rock_metal_RossRobinson style_gothic_halloween_"big sound" blah blah... The Cure have never been any good with "rock" sound anyway.
So please please please NO ROCK EN SEINE !!! ENOUGH OF THOSE BIG FAT EVENTS WHICH ARE ONLY...
