"Mark Sutherland profiles Robert Smith and the Cure in the third part of 6 Music's The Alternative 80s. Available until 12:32am Thursday 8th July 2010" (Thanks JC)
Off topic.. Just wanting to announce the fifth birthday of my son Eden who was, yes, named with Simon's Eden in mind! He's my best mate and I love him to bits!!! Happy 5th Birthday, Eden XxXxX
PS: He's a Cure fan too! Calls RSX "Uncle Robert" whenever I play DVD's.. :p
notherbob, your son has great taste. At that age, my nephews were into Coldplay, which is not the quality of The Cure, but is itself still much better than whatever Michael Jackson I was into at that age.
Mmm.. Haven't listened to this yet, may have to.. I'm pretty sure a radio edit of POY was put out back in the day lopping a large chunk of the intro off to keep the radio stations happy..
BBC 6 should consider putting this show up a bit longer, or at least archiving the shows somewhere for future reference. I was planning on ripping the audio but it was too late. The interview snippets were really eye-opening. Some of the comments were a bit snarky though, especially the one brief reference to Robert's size/weight. Not too sure if the person who wrote the script is a genuine Cure fan. I thought Beano referred to the dietary supplement but it didn't make sense that RS would eat them w/ tomato sauce sandwiches (I wonder if he also eats sardines w/ tomato sauce sandwiches too? YUM!) since they don't induce gas. A quick google search revealed that (The) Beano is a British children's comic. That made more sense. Overall the interview portions were very interesting. Hopefully BBC 6 will continue to post more Cure programs.
BBC 6 has been saved thank god!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea Robert was so mean as to force other band members to take LSD. That's so wrong to insist on that kind of dangerous thing.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was pretty cool that Robert grabbed that EMF guy and made him cry. :)
Maybe I should check out this Mark Sutherland's bio of The Cure.
I'm positive I already posted here last night. Weird.
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty neat hearing about how Robert Smith grabbed that EMF guy by the lapels after the latter had been trash talking him.
Very sad to hear Robert insisted the other Cure members take LSD during Disintegration. That's very mean and dangerous.

ReplyDeleteGreat series. Has anyone got episode 1 to put up on youtube/rapishare etc?
ReplyDeleteWeird indeed, Muldfeld!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you've been working too hard dude.
my posts weren't showing up right the other night either.
ReplyDeleteNo, Swifty,
ReplyDeleteThey weren't being posted, so I sent an email to Craigers and he probably fixed it.
That would be pretty funny if I were that blind.

ReplyDeleteYeah the whole LSD thing... Not a huge fan of that :/
ReplyDeleteThe whole thing about EMF was pretty fantastic though :P
Though I thought it was really funny and telling that the whole intro to Pictures Of You was talked over... Probably because it was "too long"... x]
When I was 4/5 years old I was really digging "Blockbuster" by The Sweet, although those sirens were pretty scary.

Here's a low quality rip of the audio file for those who missed it.
