"I've had a Cure documentary on VHS for the past 22 years (seriously). My older brother (who was a huge Cure fan) recorded it back in 1988. I've finally got a friend of mine to digitise it so i can get it on DVD and onto YouTube.
The documentary is called "That Was Then... This Is Now" and is part of a series of 30 minute rock documentaries." (Thanks Ed)

Wow, cool!
ReplyDeleteMmm.. very CUREious.. :p
ReplyDeletei've had this on tape for that long too..great interview, and the earliest Cure footage that we know of..
ReplyDeleteHope you all enjoy it! Even my non-Cure-obsessive fan who digitised it for me found it fascinating.
ReplyDelete(Hope it doesn't get taken down though - so watch it quick guys!)
This was great to watch! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI cant wait to get home from work to watch it. Does anyone have the MTV Cure doc from I think 89 "the cure: past, present, and future"? I have seen that when it was brodcast, and would like to veiw it again.
ReplyDeleteI have an old interview with Robert and the band that I taped from a music channel called music box. The interview was conducted while The Cure were playing the cannes music festival around the same time as or just after the release of KM KM KM.
ReplyDeletekeepvid.
ReplyDeleteInteresting to see that even at an early age, he had a clear cut vision of what he wanted to happen..
ReplyDeleteInterviews like this bring everythimg back into focus as to why I like this group, even in down time!!
Wow - thanks for posting this. I also used to have this on tape. Haven't seen it for 20 plus years. This aired on TV in England when I was at art college in Portsmouth. I remember telling all my friends "you must watch this". That was a long time ago when I was just a young 18 year old - wow. As a side note - our 20 year college reunion is at the end of the month - sorry I won't be able to make it as now live in Kansas City. Those were the days. And just a few short months after this video came out - Disintegration was released!! And the story goes on ....
ReplyDeleteman, nostalgia is a weird feeling...watching 6 different ways brought me back to that place so long ago, a bit like Ego in Ratatouille when he gets served his er, ratatouille...
ReplyDeleteThis doc was transmitted in 1988 and was the only Cure type activity for that year apart from Robert getting married to Mary.
ReplyDeleteWasn't 1988 a year that The Cure took off for tax reasons?
