I really like that Plastic Passion cover. They did a kind of different take on it, but the vocals have a hint of Siouxsie to them.

ReplyDeletemost and i mean 90% of cure covers out there suck. made by forgettable bands who no one would ever have even heard of them if they didn't do a cure cover because they lack an original bone in their body.
ReplyDeleteall these dark wave "goth" bands covering cure songs just insult the integrity of the original..same goes for these lame hip hop artists whose lack of talent lead them to sample (ripoff) anything that sounds remotely cool..and then they do nothing to put their own spin on their so called cover...just a quick way for them to make buck.
the best cure covers i have heard are from nouvelle vague, very original, and not just with cure songs..tomihira does a wonderful acoustic version of 2 late, of course dinosaur Jr, and even some amateur people i see playing on you tube rearranging songs like "the only one" completely for piano...these are what good covers are,,not this trite that gets posted here and spams my myspace.
Dinosaur Jr. is cool and all, but how are they getting more votes for the better version? They didn't even write it, how can people say it is better?

Dinasour Jr's JLH is the best Cure cover ever. But JLH - the original is still better! But the current line ups sans keyboard version takes the Cure's take on it to another level - which personally I really like!
ReplyDeleteThe Editors cover of 'Lullaby' is great off the NME cd giveaway when they the Cure won the Godlike genuis award...in fact that cd has some really good versions of several of there tracks and of course the odd dud.

I'm not gonna make a lot of friends by saying this, but I believe that DJr version is better than the original. Much more intensity and passion in it.
