  1. Wow. This was actually a respectful, even loving description of the album. I wish all lists mentioning The Cure were this smart and earnest.

  2. I agree with mudfeld. The description is touching and clearly personal. I even like the photo.

Does anyone know if Robert partakes of "creativity" inducing substances these days?

  3. I was really happy to see this first thing in the morning. Can't start the day without a dose of bad news from MSN, and what do I see??.. Robert on the homepage. Ahhh..and a glowing description to boot. Love the photo also.

I doubt he would be into heavy stuff nowadays. maybe he smokes some herbs though.

  4. I always call Disintegration my "musical blankie"--looks like the author of this article agrees with me! Very nice.

  5. Kate, I think he has said that his body can't tolerate that kind of experimentation anymore. He mentioned recently his nephews might offer him something and it has devastating effects. So, he's steered away from hard drugs and even has been drinking less for years.

  6. mudfeld, thanks for the info. It makes sense that he would be doing less and less.

  7. No problem, Kate. Yeah, remember all those stories about how Robert couldn't go on the Banshees tour because his doctor said he was so exhausted he would die?! Don't want that happening with a 24 year older body.
It's amazing how hard he worked in those first few years!

  8. For years I would listen to Plainsong and Closedown as I drifted to sleep. "Musical blanky" is the perfect way of putting it!

  10. When is the reissue coming out? This will be the twentieth anniversary of the album.

  11. Wow, that description made me fall in love with Disintegration all over again.

Reminded of when I saw them live in 2004. First (and only, so far) time I saw my heroes live and in person. Almost bawled, but luckily, first song was "Lost." Maintained composure. 2nd song, though? Plainsong. Was even harder to hold it together :)

  12. That was a beautiful description.
I still occasionally fall asleep to The Same Deep Water...

The word that immediately comes to my mind for this album is VAST. It’s just so astronomical and all encompassing; there’s not one piece of the listener that is left untouched. I don’t think its prodigiousness will ever be matched. <3

  13. Too bad they left off "2 Late"--one of the best single-type songs they've recorded, but I see how it wouldn't have fit. I guess it's just that everything they recorded, including all the b-sides, from THOTD thru Wish, was simply magical. I would buy a single and just be in awe of how incredible were the songs that didn't even make it onto the album. No other band has ever, ever been able to come anywhere close to that level of perfection.
