Real album news from Rolling Stone

From the new issue of Rolling Stone #1050 4/17/08:

The Cure Title TBD 6/3
With thirty-three songs recorded for the Cure's thirteenth album, the band is still figuring out which tracks to submit to the label.

"There's some very, very downbeat seven-minute songs and some very upbeat ones," singer Robert Smith says. "One voice is saying, 'Put out the most commercial-sounding CD and draw people into the Cure world again.' There's another voice saying, 'Fuck that, let's just put out the doom and gloom.'"

At least one tune will almost definitely make the
cut: "Sleep When I'm Dead," a recently unearthed demo from 1985's The Head On The Door. "It sounds genuinely 1980's," Smith says. "I don't think that's a bad thing. It's part of our heritage."

(Thanks to Dayna @ A Foolish Arrangement)

  1. VERY cool. Hope they don't go with the "draw people in" decision!

  2. the 80s are "a part of our heritage." how lovely to hear robert say that!

doom & gloom! doom & gloom! (as long as they're good...) ;)

  3. I CAN´T WAIT!!!
    RS IS KILLING ME!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  4. No mention of the double CD plan?

Given RS's comments a double CD more than ever seems like the perfect strategy:
    CD1 Happy Tracks
    CD2 Gloomy Tracks

I'll take both if they have happy material of the caliber of 'Close to Me' and 'Just Like Heaven'; and Gloomy material the caliber of 'Prayers for Rain' and 'End'

  5. So what hapened to that "peace stone" Robet promised us? How about a single!!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Once Robert said: "if it's not written on Rolling Stone must be true"

    ReplyDelete
  7. Damn, more non-news. Aside from a possible song inclusion what did Robert reveal? Album title TBD?Still choosing songs?? This same news was revealed 6 months ago. It's April 4th and I don't think this album is coming out any time soon. I'm thinking October release at this point.

  8. Wow, where did you get these lyrics, thearchangel? Believing they're Robert's, I liked...

The 2 cds '1 shiny x 2 gloomy' option would be nice... Or any option actually :)

Unfortunately to see that even in April Fools they're not coming to Südamerika... *sob*...

    ReplyDelete
  9. Those lyrics look like a mash up of 30 yrs of Cure songs

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm pretty certain now that this album is gonna come out in 2009 and that the double CD plan has been dropped

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ugggggh... The fact that he's even CONSIDERING the "draw people in" option. NO!!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Forget "drawing people in." You have tons of fans that have been VERY patient with you over the years. How about choosing the damn songs already?

    Here's one more vote for:

    DOOM & GLOOM

  13. Double CD please!!!!!! Happy side and Doom/Gloom side. That was the original plan - stick to it.

  14. Give us an mp3, and I may believe those lyrics. ;)

  15. Eh,think you guys really really didn`t heard them live at this tour!!!more than brilliant, wipping,so fresh to the top, better shaped than ever!!!!!!Have seen them now 6 times since 1987 and never they were so spectacular, sure that 1989 doom was the soundtrack of my life and will allways be,but 19 years later it`s time for another taste of cure!!so please please join them live on stage and you will wait for the new album like you did as you were waiting for your virginity loosing girlfriend!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm with Rob! I want it all, baby! Great quality (as in "Wish" quality, not WMS quality) happy tracks and doom and gloom "Disintegration" quality tracks. 2 CDs, Mr. Smith. And don't try to make it commercial. Just put out the best possible album. That halfway stuff just hurts everything!

I hope fellow Cure fans will also check out the premiere of Season 4 of the most politically-insightful show in American history tonight, the new Battlestar on Sci Fi and Canada's Space at 10pm Eastern. I'm not a huge fan of the writers of this particular episode, but it's a brilliant, challenging series about the dehumanization and homogenization of "the other"; no simple good and evil in this dramatically-realistic show!

    ReplyDelete
  17. i'm sure of one thing: i'm watching battlestar galactica with my virginity loosing girlfriend tonight!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Bah! I wish they would ditch the whole label shit, who fucking cares what the label thinks, they would rather have 6 sub standard new albums from an American Idol (cough) star than anything the Cure will submit them. I can see why he wants to get as many people in with the new album, after all this is his livelihood, but i hope he goes with both options and makes the double he so obviously wants to make.....a much as i understand the need to make a buck, i cant help but think fuck commerce!

    ReplyDelete
  19. i am not with mudfeld, cause he forgott to order french fries and a coke! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Two months before this album is supposed to come out and they still haven't even decided which songs are going to be on it? It will really surprise me if June 3 is the date the album comes out.

And Battlestar Galactica? Which one is that? Is that the one with the female captain who used to be on Ryan's Hope?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Who knows that stage the album is at? it sounds at the very least like it is all finally recorded, so that is a step in the right direction?

You can never trust the media anyway? for all we know the album is all done, I suppose we wont know until they announce something on 'that' site......hurry the heck up....i am very patient, but thats about all dried up

    ReplyDelete
  22. I certainly understand the frustration almost everyone here is feeling. At this point, I would be satisfied if the re-mastered DISINTIGRATION found it's way into my hands sometime before I die.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't really understand Robert's point, provided that he has actually said that. I think A Strange Day or A Forest have drawn much more people into The Cure than Taking Off and The End Of The World. I don't think it's a matter of upbeat of downbeat tracks, it's a matter of quality. I usually prefer their deeper stuff, but if the cheerful material is at the same level as, say, Friday I'm In Love, then I'd be glad to have some, for instance (not if it's stuff like The Only One and Freak Show, though). However, I think that if we look back at their albums, they are basically either very homogeneous in terms of sound (Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Pornography, Disintegration...), or kind of diverse, trying to reach a balance between different sounds and moods (Head On The Door, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me, Wish, WMS...)

So, in this case, if the material they have come up with is diverse, I think they should just pick up the best songs (either upbeat or downbeat) and put them together in a well-according way.

But most of all, people are drawn in by good albums. Albums such as Pornography and Disintegration are what have made The Cure so popular, more than anything else.

  24. One last thing: I'd really like to have a non-pop single this time. What is the last time they made such a thing? A Letter To Elise?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yes Mr Alphabet...you make some great points....robert should really eschew doing what he think sis the most commercial thing and just release what is good quality and adds to their legacy rather than detracts.

I'd also like a less obvious single, i long for the day they release a single that makes you go "wow" like the first time I heard "Lullaby"....heres hoping

    ReplyDelete
  26. "One last thing: I'd really like to have a non-pop single this time. What is the last time they made such a thing?"

I'd say the dreadful "The 13th", which to this day is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

    ReplyDelete
  27. mr alphabet makes a great point: I count FAITH and THE HEAD ON THE DOOR as two of my favourites, and I can't think of two albums that better represent the chasm between the two seemingly different approaches to how The Cure writes and records music. I THINK I can consider myself a fairly "typical" fan, and I know I want nothing more than great music from The Cure. Hopefully, we will be rewarded for our long wait.

    ReplyDelete
  28. By the way, didn't they consider releasing THE CURE as a two-disc album? One disc supposedly representing their "dark" side, the other representing their "pop" side?

    ReplyDelete
  29. never mind if them subit shiny or gloomy the most important is a DOUBLE ALBUM with 26,30,33 & up songs....
    DOUBLE ALBUM...
    DOUBLE ALBUM...
    DOUBLE ALBUM...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Good points Mr.Alphabet. At the end of the day all anybody wants is the best material, but that is a subjective call.

I think the odds are that it will be a single CD ... the double CD idea in hindsight was likely Robert just thinking out loud. The record company would likely fight a double tooth and nail.

IMO what Robert is likely struggling with is he has 33 songs and thus has to decide on 12 songs, and thus between releasing a "Wish" or a "Disintegration". Its likely much safer to go with a "Wish".

Regardless, Disintegration and Wish are my No.1 and No.2 Cure records, so I guess I'll be happy either way.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Robert wanted to make Wish a double album, but relented at the behest of the record company, and has regretted it ever since. He shouldn't make the same mistake twice.

Oh, and as for a single, if he doesn't pick A Boy I Never Knew as one of the singles, then someone needs to give him a hard kick to the rear.

  32. Battlestar Galactica is the one in which less than 40,000 people escape for their lives from another race that committed genocide against the human race because it had created and enslaved them. Here's my argument for the show:

The Emmy-nominated and Peabody award-winning new Battlestar Galactica is the most politically-insightful show EVER in the history of American pop culture -- far more complex and dramatically-realistic than 24 or The West Wing. This re-imagined show (which is nothing like the usual escapist sci-fi, let alone the atrocious 1970s show from which it derives only vaguely its premise) intelligently explores themes ranging from terrorism, torture, war, religious faith, political campaigns, the tension between civilian and military authority in a fragile democracy, abortion, stem-cell research, genocide, marital problems, labor disputes, and, most recently throughout Season 3, the complicated politics of collaboration in an occupied regime. While the writing never feels too aping of current world issues, Ronald D. Moore and his staff show greater understanding of history and world affairs than most of the US media (except PBS) with its short-term sense of causality and American nationalist leanings that have led most recently to a war in Iraq that went largely unquestioned until it was too late.

It challenges conventional perceptions in US culture in very thoughtful ways. For example, the third season premiere – for which the show has been nominated with an Emmy for Outstanding Writing -- had the "heroes" engage in suicide bombings against the "villains" because, unlike most of the US media, the head writer understands that terrorism is a means, and not morally worse than war since both are terrible and violent means of solving political problems. This is not to say I agree with anything resembling Al Qaeda or its followers, but the American Revolution (especially in the South, where US soldiers would engage in hit and run attacks and use deceptive propaganda about British-allied natives raping white women) and French Resistance in WWII were terrorism, and Hitler used war, proving that war can be just as deplorable as terrorism in its goals and means.

What is equally impressive with how these issues are discussed is how the characters are portrayed. There is not one hero on this show who doesn't occasionally do "the wrong thing", but feels no guilt about it because they don't realize how wrong they are; there is not one character ("good guy" or "bad") who does not show both dark and heroic traits in a way that is similar to human nature.

Without presenting simple answers, this show is so real that it can change how we traditionally look at our societies. I firmly believe this insight can reduce conflict in this world. What this program depicts so well is that “the other” is not as homogenously terrible as we might think and that “we” are not necessarily as good or as true to our principles as we’d like to believe; each side stereotypes the other and prejudges its individuals based on what the group has done. There is no pure good or evil person in this series, only what is in-between – that we all have the capacity for kindness and selfishness, for clarity and mistakes -- which is far truer to human nature.

I am a student of history and have been disillusioned and saddened to learn from many university professors that the biographical and other works (including many on the genius of the US founders) written by many historians are actually deceptive hagiographies, as are the high school history books that seek only to uphold those on "our" side while completely denigrating those on the other. It is my strong feeling that this approach to history has harmed societies, including the US and the rest of the West. It is only when we learn about the capacity for fault and kindness in all of us, and of our great heroes’ abilities to make mistakes that we may better judge our past and plan for the future as peoples and voters.

"Battlestar Galactica" is the kind of show that best resembles the reality of human relations. Perhaps its one slightly weak area is its exploration of romance, but the painful side of love is written beautifully. It deserves attention, despite losing to formulaic shows in televised award shows. It also features an impeccable cast of actors, including Academy Award Nominees Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell.

Check out the miniseries to see what I mean, if you're uncertain -- even just a few minutes. The show is best enjoyed from the start, and I can only vouch for the near perfection in subtle writing that are the miniseries and Season 1. There are incredible episodes in following seasons, but nowhere near the consistency of the first. This show is losing in the ratings and needs your help. The first 3 seasons are on DVD.

  33. I have to say, if it weren't for the pop and melancholy singles, I don't think I'd be a Cure fan. That's what drew my big brother in. I really appreciate the harder stuff, but the pop and slow melancholic songs really appeal to me more. It's about quality.

I mean, for every "Mint Car" or "Taking Off" dull pop song, there's "The Promise" and "Watching Me Fall" which weren't very good harder edge songs, right? And even "The Loudest Sound" or "Going Nowhere" don't match up to "A Letter To Elise" or "To Wish Impossible Things".

"Wish" was the last time they did all 3 varieties well and I just hope that's the same this time around and am willing to wait if it helps the band achieve that kind of care in lyrics and complex and original melodies. Who knows for how long Porl will stick around? They just have to pull this off.

  34. "Oh, and as for a single, if he doesn't pick A Boy I Never Knew as one of the singles, then someone needs to give him a hard kick to the rear."

I agree. He talked about that song back when THE CURE came out. Said in an interview something about it being emotional and being able to hear him cry during the song while he was singing it.

  35. Muldfeld, I don't have time for any thought-provoking show.

Don't they have shows anymore where stuff gets blowed up real good?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Dumb anguish, there's plenty of that: 24, the inexcusable "Heroes"; I'm sure CSI occasionally. I appreciate your honesty. :)

No, seriously. Check it out! It's also a lot of fun and has lots of attractive people, including the woman of my dreams Tricia Helfer, who's also a great actress:

  37. Warning, BSG/SciFi geek talk below. You have been warned.

Muldman, what did you think of the S4 premiere? I really loved it. Just so good to see Katee Sackhoff on the show again.

Sad to see it end this year, but very happy to hear that SciFi is going ahead with the Caprica prequel.

And Tricia is ok, but Katee, Grace Park and especially Rekha Sharma are light years better. : )

Now to complete geek weekend, gotta go download the season premiere of the new Doctor Who from last night. Not expecting much after the terrible last few episodes at the end of last season and Catherine Tate replacing Freema.

Sorry guys, but Muldman started it. : )

  38. Why doesn't Robert just release the standard 1 disc edition with a mix of both happy AND doom/gloog songs and then the special edition (for the fans) with one happy and one doom/gloom disc. It... It boggles the mind as to why this isn't done already!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Why doesn't Robert release SOMETHING!!?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Regarding Battlestar Galactica, I kind of lost interest about halfway through the happy horseshit that the sensitive disillusioned student of history was spewing. "Yeah, life's not all black or white, there's gray too!" Ok now can anyone address the whole "why hasn't the unconvinced potential viewer seen any evidence of action" question?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I never got into "Heroes".

I used to be really big on "Prison Break" until they killed off Dr. Sara. Inexcusable.

But there is nothing wrong with "24". Yeah, Season Six was horrible. But the rest of it was really good. Is it realistic? Of course not. But its very addictive.

But I've never been big on Sci-Fi. Except for one program. When I was about 8 years old there was a mini-series called "V" about lizard aliens (disguised as humans) who took over our planet and were planning to steal all our water and process us humans as food. I thought that was about the coolest program ever.

  42. April 7th and there's still no news about the new album. Bummer.

    ReplyDelete
  43. how about a "kissme" style collection of songs... it was a double album... i don't want an album that's as boring as bloodflowers (although good... too much doom and gloom) or a fantasy singles collection like japanese whispers either...
its not rocket science... pick your bookend tracks... then decide how you want to get there...
fuck... do a metallica load/reload deal... i'll take 2 seperate albums back to back... within a year... sure beats the 4 year crap they are shafting us with these days.

    ReplyDelete
  44. i love how we all (me included sometimes) act like the band owes us anything. it's the price of liking a band that's decided to do things the way they (read: robert smith) wants to. hopefully we get great music occasionally and don't feel too used. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  45. The band doesn't "owe" us anything, however the band should recognize that a lot of people have spent a lot of money to make them rich and it's not unreasonable for the fan base to ask, "So how about some updates?" now and then. I have every right to wonder out loud, "Gee, this album has been delayed again and again, how about some fresh information on the status?" At the bare minimum the "official" site should be updated with some concrete news once in a while. How much time would it take to have a 1 or 2 sentence update regarding the status of the album? Why bite the hand that feeds you?

    ReplyDelete
  46. If I was a member of the Cure I would bite our heads off for being so demanding...

    ReplyDelete
  47. having said that....I agree JPX, on the one hand they "owe" us nothing, and I couldnt care less if we have assisted in making them wealthy, thats irrelevant, I just want to know some news that is positive and concrete....like we all do!

If you read this site anyone in the band....please give us a scoop!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Alastair, I don't think we've been demanding, I think if anything we've been infinitely patient with given the cancelled tour last year and years of delays for the new material - how can that be construed as demanding? Is it demanding to ask The Cure to update the "official" site once in a while so it still isn't advertising Festival from 2005? It smacks of complacency and disinterest in the fan base.

    ReplyDelete
  49. ROBERT,
what songs to pick? easy decision:

if you have so many songs, put out 1 cd of happy songs for the rec. comp. and put out a 2 disc of "doom and gloom" for the fans. doing this pleases EVEREYONE including the record company. doing this in this format would only mean MORE possible sales, and for the fans not having to buy several cd's with repeat songs. AS A FAN, i would gladly buy BOTH the single AND the double cd, without hesitation. and PLEASE put all B-sides on the double cd or atleast offer them on a cd-single widely available. there are some from blood i am missing and i think there were 2 from 2004 (besides "a boy i never knew") that never surfaced. (i bought the only 3 singles i could find) i, and i am sure many a cure fan, have easily (and happily) spent well over $1,000 on the cure and as a real fan it is really frustrating to want to hear everything an artist has to offer, and willing to spend the money, and it just not be available.
of course you can do what you want but PLEASE consider this 3 disc option.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Just release SOMETHING already.

    ReplyDelete
  51. re; jpx "we've been infinitely patient with given the cancelled tour last year and years of delays for the new material - how can that be construed as demanding?"

well, obviously it wasn't a cancellation, seeing that the US tour was POSTPONED and will begin may9th. 3 years between disintegration and wish, but there was a single in there, 4yrs between wish and wild mood swings, but an extensive tour with 3 hour sets, 4 yrs between wild and blood with another single between and several tours of festivals in europe and US. More 3 hour sets with obsure setlists. 4 yrs between blood and the cure, more touring, 3 new songs, a special cure bootleg and shows for "doom and gloom" fans (Trilogy). oh, and the remastered CDs.
With that said, and not to mention the greatest hits and other dvd's, The cure have kept themselves busy for the fans over the years. If they are as wealthy as you claim, they could chuck it all in and call it a day. They don't because they enjoy making music for themselves..not for fans...for themselves. They don't want to release what they think is crap because of pressure from the record label or a few whinny bloggers. If you were the cure and read some of your comments (and others) how do you think you would feel?
Don't go looking for presents before christmas. When it comes you want be nearly as excited.

sorry if this comes off mean, but I am growing tired of these "negative" cure fans.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm not a negative Cure fan, I LOVE The Cure. My comments stem from ongoing frustrations about the glacial pace of the release of the new material. When the show I was supposed to see was cancelled in Boston last year I was cool with it because they emphasized that they wanted time to complete the album. That was like 6 months ago and as of April 8th there is not even a hint of the new album. I'm theoretically seeing them next month in Boston, still without the new album. You note live albums and dvds as evidence that the band never stops working. That might be true but I've always considered live albums from bands as a way to buy time. I have every Cure album and every b-side/unreleased track, etc., but I never listen to the live albums. I love seeing them live but hearing a "live" album seems like a contradiction. Anyway, I don't mean to sound mean either (sometimes tone is lost in the written word), but I'm incredibly frustrated with the endless delays and lack of information. Everything with Smith is vague and unspecified. Even the new Rolling Stone article reveals absolutely nothing that didn't already know for the last few years (e.g., they've written a lot of tracks, no title yet, etc). At some point you want to say, "Okay, enough talk, let's see some action".

    ReplyDelete
  53. JPX,

"Everything with Smith is vague and unspecified."

That's the beauty of The Cure...

"we've been infinitely patient with given the cancelled tour last year and years of delays for the new material - how can that be construed as demanding?"

It just seems to me that since your world revolves around the band, you expect the band's world to revolve around you.
On a positive note, I do understand your frustrations and believe they are legitimate, but coming to the site and keep complaining will only add to your disappointments.

Enjoy what you got. Stay cool.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hey Jpx

You know I do totally see your point about the waiting and wishing someone would happen, in regards to the site, I suspect they have zero input in that anyway and id rather they focussed on touring and recording, that said its ludicrous it still advertises the 05 live DVD, but thats label control for you isnt,

as for your comment "It smacks of complacency and disinterest in the fan base" I dont think you really believe the Cure dont care about their fans, they are wonderfully productive compared to some of their peers, for example when was the last time Sisters of Mercy released a new studio album? 1990-91? and Eldritch openly mocks his fan base yet extends his bony tentacles expecting people to pay for live shows, The Nephilim, who have become more active of late, but still maintain a tiresome screen of pretentious distance all the time. I think as Cure fans we should be glad they are always doing something, the re-releases, the tour (even though their is no album) the 30th Anniversary DVD out next year!

Keep your chin up JPX, good things come to those who wait....apparently! fingers crossed!!! : )

happy vibes your way from NZ

  55. in other news, no one's bothered to respond to my blog question, so i'll put it here:

i've never figured this out. bought the album when it came out and have listened to it 18 bazillion times since then and i still don't know:

what's robert smith say in the song "disintegration" buried in the mix between 1st & 2nd verses? does he say "oh no. why am i so insistent?"

also, there's something buried in "last dance" after the 2nd verse that almost sounds like "and in my mind softly i roam" or something similiar.

    thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  56. @MonkeyButt: I have always wondered this myself! He also says something indecipherable during the intro, and when I first got Disintegration I spent many hours trying to figure out what he said in both spots. I think I finally guessed that he said "Is this the end?" between the verses, but I don't know if that's right - it's been years since I've tried to figure it out. :) Now I gotta put "Disintegration" on and listen for it again... I'd love to hear what other people make of it!

    ReplyDelete
  57. v: thanks. i forgot about the words in the disintegration intro too. gotta check that out again!

  58. Wasn't the tour postponed so they could finish the record? With the NA tour starting in a month and Europe well behind, wasn't the point of the postponement to make these the best cure shows ever? Someone tell me if I'm wrong, but Robert went on a diatribe after the negative comments on the official site after the "rescheduling" of the tour, basically saying they did it in the interest of a better album/better tour with more new material. Hopefully, more new songs will be debut in the US, but I doubt it.

I still love the shows and the music, and Robert and the band have the right to do what ever they wish, but the cure as a business is grating, at best. They need to just keep their traps shut until they are ready to release something.

I don't need a new album to go see the cure. But if a tour is rescheduled to finish a new record and the rescheduled tour goes on despite a release, wtf?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Shucks, the mp3 of "Disintegration" I have with me at work does not allow me to hear him very well, so I'll have to bust out my CD at home. But the times I hear him say things are at around 00:40 and 2:12. When I listened to 2:12 right now, I thought I heard him say "What?" right before saying something with an explosive "S" sound.

What does the message in the liner notes say? Something to the effect of, "This has been mixed to be played loud, so turn it up!" :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. @monkeybutt: I just listened to "Last Dance" - is what you are referring to what he sings softly at around 3:40?

    ReplyDelete
  61. v: yes, in last dance, it's really soft and towards the end of the song. to me, it really sounds like "and in my mind softly i" and then maybe "roam" but it echoes too much to be sure.

    ReplyDelete
  62. i just listened to it and it definetly says "Chill jpx an album will be out in 2008!"

    ReplyDelete
  63. I listened to it too and I believe it said, "We've written 35 songs, we don't have a title yet, it might be a double album, we're hoping it will be out by October, but you know me, wink, wink" I say this with love, guys =)

    ReplyDelete
  64. finally...i cracked jpx's mood..all we need now is a new album ;)

    ReplyDelete
  65. so, i like to think of myself as a total collector of all cure songs, but i know there are things out there i still don't have.

i recently found 'pirate ships' and 'yesterday's gone' (i know, not really cure songs per se) and have only had 'lost wishes' on cd/mp3 for about six months. i have spilt milk' but have never heard 'you're so happy' and i'm sure there are lots of things others have that i don't. AND I WANT THEM!!! honestly.

can anyone post a list, or email me a list, or whatever, that has all the old (i have all the easy cure stuff) and recent (2004 album) unreleased stuff so i can at least know where i stand? would be much appreciated!

you can post at my blog if you want- i'm making a new blog with this exact same post.

  66. "Join the Dots" is a good place to start if you don't already have it in your collection.

  67. i bought join the dots the day it came out, but i'd already had everything on it except for the lame remixes on disc 4. i'm talking deeper. maybe i've got everything and don't know it.

  68. Did you get all the b-sides and extra tracks from their most recent album? Do you have "Heroin Face"?

    ReplyDelete
  69. i have heroin face, yes (at least as it appeared live on the curiosity b-sides) and i have all the stuff i know of from the 2004 album. 'your god is fear' 'why can't i be me' and 'this morning.' is that all of them from that era?

  70. The European edition, if you don't have it, has "Going Nowhere", which is the last track and a really good one. Also "Fake" and ""Truth Goodness and Beauty" are on the European edition.

  71. Smith also has a number of collaborations that I"m sure you're aware of including "When you love somebody" with Billy Corgan, "Da Hype" with Junior Jack, the Blank and Jones remake of "A Forest", "Truth is" with Tweaker, "Perfect Blue Sky" with Junkie XL, "All of this" with Blink 182, and "Believe" with Earl Slick.

  72. i got the japanese version of the 2004 album, so i have 'going nowhere.' it's an ok song, nothing great. and i know of the collaborations but try to steer clear of them.

geez, guess i'm actually pretty well set!

  73. There's also the "Lost Flowers" instrumental demos versions from BloodFlowers one could download from the official site years ago...Not sure where you can get hold of them though...

  74. I was able to get all the Lost Flowers stuff off of Limewire back in the day.

  75. Do you have the "Love Will Tear Us Apart" cover? I love The Cure's version of that!

    ReplyDelete
  76. i do have the joy division cover, really like it.

this person seems to have the most comprehensive list i've ever seen:

    http://imaginaryboys.altervista.org/moloch.htm#mp3

don't have the lost flowers stuff (even the above link doesn't list lost flowers 13-15) but i have to assume it should come on the bloodflowers re-mastered. sometime in 2014? ;)

  77. The Lost Flowers stuff should be easy to locate. If you have difficulty I can make you a copy.

  78. easy option for Bob is to do a Radiohead, ie. release a widely distributed one-CD thing and a deluxe/download/what-have-you expanded affair for the nerds

  79. You can download "Lost Flowers" from here:

  80. thanks JPX & swania. i found them. apparently the last four lost flowers are pretty hard or impossible to find, but these 12 BF tracks are a nice addition to my collection. again, thanks! :)

  81. Monkey, do you need Ching Chang Chong? It was the early, original version of Spilt Milk with different lyrics. What about Please by Paul Hartnoll with Robert?

  82. does anyone got the demo of "just say yes"?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Adonais66...Just say yes's demo is song number 2 on LostFlowers...it is labelled Lost Flower#1 (Just say yes)..

    ReplyDelete
  84. By the way monkeybutt, do you have the Greatest Hits demos, that were available on the G.H microsite? Actually, i have a question if anyone can help..A friend burnt those demos for me a few years ago, and when i play the cd on my computer i get a playlist of 19 songs, starting with A Forest, but finishing at #13 with High..I cannot seem to be able to play the remaining 6 songs and there are no names showing..Any idea what they are? Thanks.

  85. @perfect.murder

i didn't mean the lost flowers demos. i am speaking of the greastest hits demos which were availabe on curehits.com around greatest hits in 2001.

btw. i always thought that these lost flowers demos weren't real?

  86. Maybe your answer is the answer to my above question..could it be "Just say yes" is one of my "missing tracks"?ANYONE?

  87. "One voice is saying, 'Put out the most commercial-sounding CD and draw people into the Cure world again.' There's another voice saying, 'Fuck that, let's just put out the doom and gloom.'"
