I was really looking forward to that reissue, but it seems like Robert stopped with Disintegration. It's possible anything good from studio recordings has already been released as b-sides and on Lost Wishes (though I'd love to hear some alternate versions to any songs from the era where Porl is more up-front in the mix), but there must be a ton of live recordings from the Wish tour that could be used for extra tracks. Also, I'd find it hard to believe there isn't more to hear from that era that is from the studio sessions, as it was (arguably) their most productive as a band musically.
After reading a comment below, I found a bunch of demos for Wish I'd never heard. Some of these are fantastic, and all of them are very decent. Will have to listen to them more, but T-7 was probably my favorite. I know all great things end, but I really miss the band as it was then. The biggest difference is Boris missing, and I doubt there's a chance for him to ever be invited back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ki-7ecar5E&index=9&list=PLJXhcM9tHTPB7dOiaNL7p43mk7P0Zk1un
I thought these records were already re-issued? Maybe they were released only in europe though. Wasn't a fan of the sound on the europe reissues, sounded kind of boring and sourced from a CD.
These were all released for Record Store Day 2012 and over the years in one way or another. For the RSD released, they were limited colored and numbered runs for the first five records. The Head on The Door has been pressed a few times and we have seen KMKMKM pressed a bunch in the last few years as well. Nothing new, just filling demand in the market.
Those were just about all European releases though, aside from the RSD red Kiss Me pressing. Elektra was their US label for much of their career, so it's presumed these are US pressings, which haven't been available on vinyl domestically in a long time, and probably never on 180g.
The original records will still likely sound better.
amoeba are always selling the unofficial 2008 vinyl lovers/lillith 2LP of these albums (w/ bonus tracks).. amoeba probably figured they could profit on it if they just pressed it themselves
These are being pressed by Rhino and Rhino does a very good job with their pressings usually - they get the original masters and they are mastered for vinyl. I look forward to them. I agree that they need to do Wish and Bloodflowers - I would love to see a box set for Join The Dots even - I would pay $150 for that. The US has not seen repressings of these albums fort quite some time.
Hello aLL - - is there a page or section here on CoF where people can talk about and seek out Cure Memorabilia (records, 12", singles, tees, bootlegs & more)? Thanks
Please reissue Wish with all 1991 demos and live tracks. The January 1991 material could have topped Disintegration. The original version of The Big Hand, Cut and Wendy Time are incredible. Wish, the official album, is great, but it was on its way to be their best record. Still, it is one of their best, but it was downgraded when they took it in a more pop and rock direction.
I would rather see Show/Paris/Wish/Wild Mood Swings/Bloodflowers released considering the above can be found already in one form or another, and originals of the records I've mentioned go for $100+ each on discogs.
Just need Wish to complete my Vinyl collection. Might get Head on the Door, Inbetween Days always seems to skip on two versions of the original pressing I have.
i'm not sold on any of those Wish demos on Youtube (except Wendy Time and Dong the Unstuck)...they all sound pretty fake..a few years ago i was demoing out songs for a double i was putting together and scrapped one of the songs because it sounded a bit to much like the Figurehead...it's easy to copy their style, put no vocals on it and claim it's the Cure, super easy
also i agree with Paris, i have Show on vinyl (incomplete of course, how about putting that on in full)but Paris is incredibly expensive, so i'd like that to spin
Only in U.S or also in Europe?
ReplyDeleteI wish this was released in a box set too.
ReplyDeleteWish already!! Good gosh.

DeleteI personally have a CDs worth of extra stuff myself just from online bootlegs of Wish stuff. Robert absolutely must have more than me, ha ha.
DeletePlease can I get a copy somehow. I'm download inept especially when it comes to all the cool instrumental wish stuff floating around on YouTube

ReplyDeleteRelease delays from The Cure? Wow, what a surprise! ;)

ReplyDeleteJust a repress...nothing we haven't seen before
