Noisey interviews Lol about 'Cured'

US cover. Artwork by Pearl Thompson

From Noisey: Laurence ‘Lol’ Tolhurst met Robert Smith at the age of five. Years later, he’d become a founding member (and the original drummer) of The Cure. Cured: The Tale of Two Imaginary Boys, his first book, is an incredibly candid and personal memoir that looks back at his childhood friendship with Robert Smith, as well as his time in The Cure until, in 1989, he left during the recording of eighth album, Disintegration, due to his struggle with drugs and alchohol. Below is a world-exclusive first extract from the book–detailing the band’s first ever time in the USA–as well as a conversation with Tolhurst about the art and intention of writing it, the nature of memory, and the enduring power of his friendship with Smith and the rest of the band in the face of trying times and acrimonious lawsuits.

Read the interview and extract at Noisey. Cured: The Tale of Two Imaginary Boys is out in the US on Oct. 11th, 2016.  Pre-order here.

  2. I'm very excitem for this. not enough has been written about the band, a book by a founding member is going to be very good.

  7. I was always cure-ious to know what triggered the re-kindling of the friendship between RS and Lol. Especially after such an acrimonious lawsuit. Maybe it was a single event or series of mutual exchanges? Who knows, guess we'll find out in the book. I see some slight parallels with The Cockatoos. 2 individuals who were initially close, then eventually became estranged (to the point of silent treatment). Years pass, and one or more events take place to trigger a gradual re-awakening in the relationship. Fortunately, Lol's story appears to have a happy ending.
