It seems a little early for tour rehearsals.
ReplyDeleteNot really. 3 months out from the first show, lots(?) of rare songs to learn or re-learn, whole new stage production to go over.
DeleteI hope it's recording new stuff, but every time we've seen these reports over the last few years, it's been nothing more than show rehearsals.
My feeling is a new album will be out end of april/ may...just a feeling.

DeletePretty sure it's rehearsals as Roger mentioned on Twitter that he's rehearsing now for the upcoming shows. But I'd love to be surprised with an album this spring!!
DeleteI think a new album is coming. :) RS has never liked playing unreleased songs so far, so why change now. I remember Mint Car was played a year before it came out. (?) But otherwise they keep those songs away from public. Except "A Boy i Never Knew" of course. But I really think he thought it would make 4:13 dream. That was just an honest mistake.
ReplyDeletethey have played many songs live before they have been released throughout the years
DeleteSurely a new album, please! What else could 'as yet unreleased tracks' mean in the blurb for the world tour?
ReplyDeleteI'm sick of believing Robert's promises (however well-intentioned) and am afraid to hope for a new album. It's been nearly 8 years! That's crazy!
ReplyDeleteIt IS fun to hope, though. I realize that's what gives my life meaning.
ReplyDelete...only for Robert to continually crush your dreams.
DeleteHa, ha!

ReplyDeleteHey look, as thecure.com points out "37 years of Cure songs, mixing hits, rarities, favourites (yes, it's spelled that way) and as yet unreleased tracks in a brand new stage production that promises to be the 'must see' show of the year! - As a CURE fan for over 25 years and it feels like longer after going back in time to explore the early works it seems to me that the guys in THE CURE are just rehearsing for THE CURE TOUR 2016. I mean look at the big picture here, There will be rarity songs that haven't been played by THE CURE in a very long time if at all by this particular line-up. So, I'm sure they will be attacking those songs first and most of all. Can you imagine if they came out on stage and played an hour and a half set and then broke out into one of these rarities "I'm Cold", "2 Late" or even "A Foolish Arrangement" and they fuck the track up the first night in New Orleans? Robert might forget lyrics (I could never imagine, Robert forgetting lyrics HA HA HA!!!) Although it would be very sweet to hear some new abstract lyrics fly from his red lips on "Meat Hook" Perhaps about the state of the US government at this present time... Just a thought... But really, I'm sure they have a lot of shit to cover. Another instance would be new unreleased tracks that have never been played live before. If they don't sound good in the studio "live" then why would they bring them to light in a live concert? That's right, Robert would not do that. Plus they have a "brand new stage production" that goes without saying all the lighting for each track what works and what doesn't work. There is also the behind band (IF) screening and imagery with each track that the production team has to work out for all or most likely just some tracks. I personally can't wait to see the new stage production. I wasn't a huge fan of the repeated imagery behind them on all the festival shows ON EVERY TRACK!!! It was kinda of a bummer to see that live it was a cool short term effect, sorry I had to throw that in but it got old fast. There is also the stage atmosphere they have to deal with on tracks like fog on "Fascination Street" or "The Big Hand" and no fog on "Friday I'm in Love". A lot of things go into preparing for a huge tour, not to mention it's THE CURE'S first real tour since 2008. There is also the ever ending setlist that possibly changes every night in some variation. so that goes with the production as well. If Robert has a wild mood swing at the point of "To the Sky" in the set and decides to play "Harold and Joe" instead the lighting needs to be prepared for that change. I'm expecting a tone of surprises during the "best show of the year", so everyone must be as sharp as an eyeliner pencil and everyone their toes and ready for anything at the drop of a lipstick tube. I may just be shooting in the dark here but there is nothing wrong with a wish here and there... So all that said, I highly doubt there will be a new CURE album until after the tour or at least by 2020.
ReplyDeleteSorry, ton not tone... (Yes, it's spelled that way) Ha!
DeleteBy the time I have read your comments a new album will probably be out then....
DeleteLol
Deletefavourites spelled that way coz that's how its spelled?

ReplyDeletei would expect that to be rehearsals, as you'd like to think that new material would be complete by now, with the tour only 3 months away.
ReplyDeleteAgreed....this is definitely tour rehearsals....I'd say the new album is recorded and will drop just before the tour, unannounced, as appears to be the way its done now....They have never done a tour this big without an album to support it
DeleteUh, Keith, what was the 4Tour?
Deletethe album was supposed to be out...they had postponed the tour once already...they werent gonna postpone it again...the point being the tour was intended for the album...which was delayed.
DeleteThey ended up playing three songs from the album on the tour. Not much of an album tour.
DeleteThey did Underneath the Stars, It's Over, Sleep When I'm Dead, Freakshow, The Only One, and The Perfect Boy on that tour.. so that's six. The 4Tour was, for all intents and purposes, a tour to support that forthcoming album.
DeleteThey really need to rehearsal the same songs played the last years???
ReplyDeleteSure... I mean, it's been a while since they've played together... And keep in mind that the other members (at least Roger, Reeves, and Jason) have all been working on their own projects or with other bands in the meantime. It's not like they can play, go off and do other jobs for 2 years, and then come back and play like the last festival they played was yesterday.
DeleteJust speculating, but maybe the dark album will be released soon and this is to finally get it done. Added rehearsal time for this lineup would be needed to get the new songs down, but three months before the tour for just rehearsals seems a bit premature. The official site does say that unreleased tracks will be played, so there is some hope for this theory. The other side of this is that they are not signed to any label at this time. If a new album is coming, and there is no label, it would have to be DIY/internet only release/download. That would be pretty interesting.
ReplyDeleteThey are big enough to do that. WISH they would!
DeleteI don't want to hear 45 minutes wasted on mediocre new songs in concert They haven't released a consistently good album in years I'll be fine with the amazing catalogue they have created
ReplyDeleteTHERE. IS. A. NEW. ALBUM. FER CHRISSAKE.
ReplyDeleteagreed...its obvious
DeleteI have faith the new record is going to be a gorgeous howl into the dark - can.not.wait.
DeleteIf no new album I'll be very disappointed that they're doing a full world tour - it's started to get a little stale these last coupla years. They need to do something creative. I can't keep hearing lullaby live and get excited about it...
ReplyDeleteI would like to see them do another Trilogy tour of The Top, Head on the Door and Kiss Me. A new album would be a bonus. I would still like to see a Blu-ray of the last Trilogy tour Reflections or the Mexico tour or The Cure in Orange. Where are those?
ReplyDeleteHow about if they just play the 8 songs on the Japanese Whispers comp and call it a night ha ha
ReplyDeleteHow about if they just play the 8 songs on the Japanese Whispers comp and call it a night ha ha
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Dennis Griffin. I would like to see the Reflections Trilogy show on DVD/Blu-ray, especially considering that I was unable to see the show in person. I feel that Robert should release it, particularly for those of us that really wanted to see it live in person, and for whatever reason, were not able to do so. I also just wanted to say that, regarding whether the Cure is going to release another album soon, or ever, a common saying occurs to me now, and that is: "You can't get blood from a turnip." And of course by that I mean: either The Cure has some really great creative energy left to produce some great music, or some decent music at least, or they don't. It's pretty simple. And maybe Robert is right in saying that, in so many words, if the new stuff can't compare with the old stuff, then what's the point in releasing it? Personally, I would love to hear some great new music from them, or even just good new music, but I am not counting on it. If and when they release anything further, who knows if it will compare at all with their earlier work? I would definitely like to have a CD with "A Boy I Never Knew" but I accept whatever happens...
ReplyDeletei think they are putting the finishing touches on a new album and also doing rehearsals for the new tour. this is going to be a great tour with a lot of new music and a lot of obscure tunes being played. One thing I have learned in the 25+ years I have been following them is that they always surprise me.
ReplyDeleteDavid Bowie´s death must have been hard on Robert. What if that somehow prompted him to write and release an album or at least a song?
ReplyDeleteIt woulld not the first time the passing of an old friend inspires him to write something.
Also, Bowie released an album right before he died. What if Robert wants to release one last cure thing before calling it quits?
Actually I´m about to disprove my previous comment (hopefully not entirely).
DeleteA quick Google search revealed that that photo was taken at Brighton Electric Studios. That is a well known location for Robert to make cure rehearsals (They used that for rehearal sessions for the LATAM tour i believe). So yeah, most likely these are rehearsal sessions and not recording.
Thank you for that information Carlos. It's good to know what's really going on even if the reality is not what we all would prefer

Yes, and as I said on Twitter, just because this guy says they are recording a new album, doesn't make it true. He's a 19-20 year old kid. If they are rehearsing anything other than the well known hits, he'd probably think they were new songs.
DeleteIt's tour rehearsals.
it's true gov' i swear it:one song was called "Sadacic" and another one "Demise", honest...lol
DeleteYou dream all a new album with this line-up! Just in your dreams !
ReplyDeleteI hope they're going to play The 13th on this tour
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if they have to rehearse in a somewhat gap-like way, due to schedule; hitting the way less played or never played stuff first to get those songs up to speed. I can promise you, well I can't!, but they likely don't have to go over "Just Like Heaven" more than a handful of times to shake the rust off it, and other very much played songs.
ReplyDeleteI hope to hear club america
ReplyDeleteI'm a Cure fan since 1985 and i'm telling you guys that there'll be no new album this year. I would like to be wrong.
ReplyDelete'm a Cure fan since 1985 too, and i'm telling you guys that there will be a new album this year.
ReplyDeleteA new album seems possible...I also think that this is the last big tour. As far as rare songs go I'd love to hear 'Lament'and 'It Used To Be Me'.
