'The Art of McCartney' is out today

'The Art of McCartney', The tribute album to Paul McCartney, is out today and features The Cure's cover of The Beatles' 'Hello Goodbye' and Robert Smith's cover of Wings' 'C Moon' (Amazon exclusive in the US).

Personally, I love Robert's cover of 'C Moon'. Wonderful! Much better than the 'Hello Goodbye' cover. For those of you who say you can't buy it in your country, here it is on YouTube. But if you like it, and can buy it, please do so. Don't steal it. Support Robert and The Cure!

Credits for 'C Moon' - Robert Smith: Producer, Robert Smith: Voice and all instruments, The Bunny Lake Experience: Other Voices, Recording Engineer: Robert Smith, Assistant Engineer: Bunny Lake, Mixer: Robert Smith. Recorded at Robert Smith's home. Mixed at Robert Smith's home. Words and music by Paul McCartney & Linda McCartney. (Thanks Tina)

  4. both songs are whimsical pop. whilst i prefer the bleaker side of the cure, these suit roberts' voice.

  5. Reminds me of young american cover. But i don't like it. too much like the original. Not that i don't like the original. Just was looking for something different.

  7. i just don't like Paul McCartney and i think Wings is middle-of-the-road.
the only thing i liked that McCartney did was Rupert the bear - and his best song was The Frog Song.
Robert should have covered that - it certainly would have been funnier.

so i don't think Robert's cover is bad - i just think he didn't have much to work with in the first place. even with the best intentions - there is still only so much you can do. i think C Moon is a pretty weak song - and McCartney is to blame for that.
it doesn't matter how good Robert is, if the song is weak - nothing's going to hide that. it needs structure. Robert writes better stuff than this in his sleep. Robert is wasted on this track, seriously. I can only imagine that he covered this song because it had some kind of sentimental value to him.
    sentimentality can sometimes trump reason.

    1. Yeah, that Paul McCartney sure is a weak songwriter.

  10. the 'c moon' cover to my personnal taste could have been a rejected demo, it deserves nothing nore. I'm happy it's not done under the name The Cure.
Robert is certainly having fun, enjoying himself doing this, but he's once again doing too much with the vocals, and musically, it doesn't touch me at all.
I like 'hello goodbye' though, it's just a pop song i know, like 'the only one', and i think they work as they are.
Now, let's have fun with the coming month and then I hope Robert goes back to work, i mean real good serious work.
I don't want him to do Disintegration II (well... :), but simple work, there's no need to do something chewy and crazy, just play for real!
    Oh, well....

  11. C Moon sounds like the '83 area
    but I prefer the '87 - '92 Cure area :)

  12. Yeah and the '80 - '82 area of course!!

I really liked the "4Play" rerecordings and would whished to be released on CD.
Would have been great, with the few other same-area songs they did live that same year.

  14. the dvd contains some cure stuff?

  15. Yes, we know its a cover....and a bad one at that.....

  16. Haha C Moon is a good laugh!!!

But Bob has waaaaaaay too much chorus effect on the piano.....and again no reverb on his voice. His voice is too dry in this phase of his life not too use reverb, it is what fucked up the The Cure and 4:13.

  17. I wish Robert would work on his inspirations as they come instead of putting out an entire disc of mediocre songs. I would rather hear one or two amazing Cure singles and then a compilation of accumulated work.

  18. I wish all of you who are bitching about a cover song would form a band and make a brilliant album, since you seem to know better.
