NME calls 'The Cure' a "classic indie album"

From the strange little world of NME:
15 Classic Indie Albums That Turn 10 In 2014
The Cure released their self-titled record in 2004, dogged by rumours that it would be their last. This was not to be the case, but what ensued was still ‘heavier, more menacing and more rhythmic than ever’ according to NME’s Rob Fitzpatrick. Perfectly befitting of the albums artwork, designed to represent ‘a good and a bad dream’. Luckily what laid inside was no nightmare, earning 8/10. (Thanks Andy)

  2. I've been listening to this album a lot lately, and probably loving it more than ever.

However, TG&B should have been an album track...

Having said that, I'm listening to 'Faith' right now...

  3. T G & B was a great song. Shoulda made the album. and I think I would cut a few tracks that made it.

  4. People seem to hate this record, but it has some really great songs: Lost, Labyrinth, Anniversary, Truth, Goodness and Beauty, The Promise and Going Nowhere. Unfortunately, it has some awful stuff as well: Never, Taking Off, I Don't Know What's Going On. Like all records since Wish, a swap of b-sides with the contrived attempts to add pop songs would have made this a classic.

  5. I think the album was just plain dreadful.

  6. And I think Simon Gallup thinks it's awful, too

  8. If u listen to the vinyl version and u make abstraction of 3 / 4 songs, the cure is a really good album

  9. Vagabond Sun ... I Don't Know What's Going On is a great song. One of the better later Cure songs in my opinion. I just wish it were longer.

  10. I've been listening to the eponymous record today. For my money, it's their best since Wish. There, I said it. Actually, I'd take some of BF and some of TC and make one great album. Labyrinth is a fucking great song.

  11. I never understand why The Cure is so heavily criticised. Robert was brave enough to try to push the band to do something different. The Promise is one of my favourite Cure songs. TG&B I guess must have been left off in some regions; it's on my CD (UK version).

    1. Yeah, Truth, Goodness and Beauty was on my CD in the UK too but I'm not really into it. It's not on the Spotify version in the US though, nor is The Promise. But I too think it's a decent record.
