Musical Encounter with The Cure on May 29th!

From Live105 on Instagram: "hit up http://LIVE105.com this weekend to enter for chance to get into a SECRET SHOW with THE CURE."

Articles about this: Slicing Up Eyeballs / Post-Punk

Update (05/22/14): @AaronAxelsen just confirmed that the secret show will be next Thursday, May 29th. And he says it will be an "intimate" show.

Update (05/23/14 1:37pm): LIVE105 just said the Secret Show will be a private BottleRock rehearsal only open to 7 people. 7! Win tickets from them starting at 3pm today. Yeah, good luck with that!

It needs to be stressed that this is NOT going to be a "secret show". As in a full Cure show. Think soundcheck level type of show.  Live105 messed that announcement up. Still, will be nice to attend it.

And here are the details.

  1. Well, I guess it's not a secret anymore... ;)

  2. Super! Another reason not to sleep tonight! :)

  3. Something similar to MySpace´s SS 2008?

Will they premiere a new song?

Can´t wait to know the full details.

    Any guessings?

  4. Yeah...here is my guess.

I'd bet that they are signing a contract to release the new record with some record company in LA.

  5. This is 3pm Pacific time, right?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Yes, 3pm Pacific, 4pm Mountain, 5pm Central, 6pm Eastern.

  7. it will probably be at the warfield or the fillmore. All other venues that would have an acceptable sound system are booked the 29th.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Would you consider the Fillmore or the Warfield "intimate"? Live 105 also likes the Fox Theater in Oakland. "Intimate" to me says smaller than these - but they would be great.

    1. But I guess "intimate" is all relative - these *would* be intimate venues to me...

    2. Fillmore capacity is 1,150. Warfield is 2,300. Fox is 2,800.

So in the intimate contest, Fillmore beats the other 2.

  9. Well being from SF and considering most of the other "intimate" venues are booked for the 29th: like Slim's, Independent, Regency Ballroom, Bottom of the Hill, Rickshaw etc... and excluding those that are too intimate like Hemlock or Hotel Utah etc...(or those without a decent enough staff , logistics or sound system) i can only speculate its either Warfield or Fillmore, maybe mezzanine? Also these venues are dark the 29th. I also was counting SF only venues not Oakland.

  10. Guess we'll find out more tomorrow...

  11. Yeah, was thinking it would be Wednesday - and the Great American Music Hall was open that day, but not Thursday. Bimbo's 365 Club would qualify - they have *nothing* showing on their Calendar, so who knows what that means. I agree I'd be surprised if it was a REALLY small place, for logistical and security reasons. Hope it's big enough that we can all get tickets, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yeah, Bimbo's is pretty cool - and I believe would work. Band would like it there (and the North Beach area), I think. Wonder when we'll know *where*... Man getting stressful, lol.

  13. Very cool that they are treating the fans. If they want to make their way down south after to Los Angeles, I wouldn't be upset.

  14. Looks like this will be an Expression College gig. If you're making plans to travel for this, you'd be best served to divert your travel to Napa.

    1. Seriously? Where did you hear that?

    2. So possibly an Ex'pression Session?

"Ex'pression Sessions are intimate concerts, featuring notable musicians, that are produced, recorded, and filmed by current students and supervised by faculty at our Emeryville campus."

Live 105 has hosted shows there before, so it's a possibility I guess.

    3. They have a live stream option. If that's the case, I would definitely like to watch if I can't attend.

    4. Yep. And they have a YouTube channel, and have uploaded past performances, so even if they don't livestream it, we could get video eventually.

If The Cure give approval, of course. Never a sure thing with Robert.

Of course, this is all presuming this is where it will be. Who knows? This person could just be guessing like the rest of us.

    1. Hahahaha...nice one!

Me? I'd take NYC over Daytona Beach any day.

  17. I'll take your word for it!
7 winners, wow! Bet you no one's gonna admit to be going, until after the gig, for fear of being abducted and tortured for THAT wristband! :)

    1. Um, what are you planning, JC? Sounds like you've already got a plan in place. :)

  18. That's pretty lame...7 people. But I must admit that anyone here would probably die for the opportunity. I just feel like when you have something that intimate (7 people), it gets to be kinda awkward for the artist...don't you think?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yeah, so it's where, like at a suite at their hotel? 7 people?? (maybe 7 winners, each get to bring someone - so 14 people??). Well that sucks. Too bad, it had so much potential in my head, lol.

    2. The DJ said it would be in a space about the size of the studio he was broadcasting in.

      Delete
    3. Wow. I really don't see this being a good idea rather than a reason to get more ratings to their program. Seems awkward and not something The Cure would/should do. But again...any one of us would love to be there. Here's at least hoping that we get to hear it kinda like the Oui FM Acoustic Sessions back in 2004 in France.

  19. I didn't think I could be more bummed about the private show being in California... and then, 7 people? DOH! At least say hello to Robert from me :P ...

  20. Isn't it at all a tad bit suspicious that The Cure isn't being added to the BFD 2014 lineup? The event is being held Sunday, June 1st, 2014 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA. Obviously this "secret show" is affiliated with the station and it is their event. This would make sense as it gives The Cure another chance to make some $$$ and play for other fans.

I believe the last time they played that venue was for Download Festival 2007.

    ReplyDelete
  21. If you are trying to imply that The Cure will be added to the BFD lineup, no, they are playing BottleRock. There are non-compete clauses in most festival contracts.

Another reason they probably can't play a bigger secret show even if they want to. At least not in the bay area.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I'd imagine that contract clause is there to deter the loss of ticket sales. But as Same Old Act said below, what if they were announce day of, Sunday, June 1st? It's a big speculation, I know.

      Delete
    2. Believe what you want, Andy. There is zero evidence of that happening. Not even a hint.

      Delete
    3. You'll let someone like eric come in here every day and bash Reeves being in the current lineup, but when I bring up a point for discussion I'm getting "believe what you want"? I only wanted to talk about it and since this "secret show" was affiliated with the radio station I was just seeing what they were up to that weekend.

      Delete
  22. So are you saying, since they probably have a clause in their BottleRock contract saying they can't play a (promoted / paid) show prior to the May 30th date in the area, they *could* then be added to the BFD? Hmm. One show in the bay area always *seemed* like a far way to go...still wish they'd do something else on the west coast.
(and yes, Download 2007 last time at Shoreline (2008 in San Jose at the Arena))

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No, I'm saying the exact opposite. Most of the non-compete clauses say x amount of time before & after the festival. I think most are 30 days, but have heard the bigger ones demand 3 months.

But I have no idea what their contract with BottleRock says. Just saying that if you're holding your breath on them being a last minute add to BFD, you can stop.

      Delete
    2. BFD does have such a small lineup and more "modern" bands that I don't see it happening either. Mere speculation to give them a reason to play another show in the area is all it is.

      Delete
    3. No, I was just hoping they'd do *something* on the west coast while they were here - actually I thought out of the "area" for BottleRocket (ie, Vegas before Coachella). Thought it was a long way to come not to do another show or two - at least in the US.

      Delete
    4. Well, you can ignore my advice now. Live 105 confirmed on their Facebook that you must be a Bay area resident to win. Also, the drawing will be on 5/27.

      Delete
  23. Couldn't they pay something *after* BottleRock - if announced after?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Just completed my entry. Fingers crossed.

  25. Guess since I don't live in the surrounding counties as the official rules state I don't stand a chance.

    ReplyDelete

    1. You're right.

"Promotion is open to all listeners of the Station who are legal U.S. residents, 18 years of age or older and who reside in the nine (9) county jurisdiction that makes up the Greater San Francisco/Bay Area (San Francisco, Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Mateo, Solano, Napa, and Sonoma Counties)."

      Delete
    2. Just ignore that and enter. If you win, deal with it later.

    3. "Unless otherwise specified by Radio Station KITS (the “Station”), these rules cover routine contests and promotions conducted by the Station. These rules may be amended by separate specific rules for major contests or promotions conducted by the Station or its sponsors. "

  26. This is actually less stressful than if it was an actual secret show where we'd have to scramble for tickets. Since I have virtually no chance of winning (and technically I don't live in the Greater SF area), I'm less bothered about it.

Live 105 was a bit misleading in their initial announcement, but whatever. I'll see them at Bottlerock. And hopefully Riot Fest if I get that sorted.

Thanks for all the updates Craig. I was able to see your info better when I was at work since the Live105 site was being super slow for me.
