Cure booked for Argentina in April or May?

"Just writing you to let you know that a TV journalist and musician from Argentina called Camilo Garcia has announced on twitter that TC have signed for playing at River Plate Stadium in April or May. And he seems pretty sure about it. Of course I know that it is not official until the band announces it but he appears to be quite sure!

27 nov @camilogarcia - Bueno ahí va: Primicia Mundial, entre abril y mayo The Cure en River!
(Ok, here it goes: worldwide news: between April and May The Cure at River Stadium)

27 nov @camilogarcia - "@lacocasinlolas: @camilogarcia de verdad? The cure?"/ Si totalmente The Cure ya firmó para abril o mayo en River, Confirmadísimo (Really? The Cure? - yes, totally! The Cure has signed for April or May. Totally confirmed)" (Thanks Emilia)

Obviously, this is in no way confirmed or official, just the start of what will likely be the usual flood of live show rumors for the new year. I almost hate posting this, as South American fans have been let down so many times in the past. But with Robert saying there are plans for a South American tour in Spring 2013, maybe, just maybe, this will be the time that the rumors actually come true. Fingers crossed for you! And for North America, too.

Update (12-12-12): Cronista (English) is running a story about this today. They seem to be guessing the date is April 3rd and I think they are saying it's a festival with a bunch of other bands? Also looks like they think an anouncement will be made Dec. 21st? Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks!
(Thanks to Gary from @TheCureheads)
Yeah, the above is correct. Thanks to Z for this translation of the article.

Update (12-15-12): La Nacion (English) is also running a story, mainly about the Chile concert, but also about the Argentina show. Again, all of this is supposed to be officially announced on Dec. 21st.

Update (12-18-12): This La Nacion (English) article says that while The Cure are still expected to play Argentina next April, they will NOT be part of that "mega festival".(Thanks Pablo)

  7. Despite the rumours, I was so hoping that the show was in Luna Park... no more football stadiums, please...
And I've already scheduled my vacations to April to follow them through S.America hehe

    1. I would also like it to be in a theatre, but Luna Park is too small and I guess lots of fans would be anxious and happy to be at the show! They havent been here in like 20 years and i think the ocassion deserves somethig huge ;)

  9. Another re-hash "living in the past" tour - again - Robert? Or some new material to tour on this time??

    1. At this point, I have a feeling that the South American fans wouldn't care if they played the same 5 songs, over and over again, for 3 hours. :)

  10. On the back of Reflections, and never played live before songs from 83/84 at recent festivals, i don't mind "living in the past Cure shows :)

  11. The moment my friend texted my those Twitter entries I wanted to believe this time there might be some truth. First, we have Robert talking about it on June or July(of course he has told not to believe everything that comes out of his mouth) and then, this journalist making the news so widely public and so convinced. I think he has some important contact in order to give the news. I really really hope everything to be truth because it'd be my first cure concert and I'd probably SO happy to tears! I know rumors have been circulating throughout years and years and as Southamerican I don't want to be let down again, because I've been dreaming of this since I was 12 (and I'm 22 now).

I was surprised when I read the booked place appearently would be River Stadium. It is HUGE! (thank god, dont want the concert to be as chaotic as it was the 1st time) Artists like Roger Waters and Lady Gaga have played there this year. I would have liked it to be in a theatre, somehow more relaxed, but I think there are going to be lots of people coming to the show if they eventually come.
So, I hope the band to confirm this asap! and makes us all happy and cheerful!
    :)

  12. by the way, i wouldn't mind if they play two songs and repeat them 400 times, i just don't care. Just to see them clearly and make myself sure they are human beings I'm ok! and hear Robert's voice....OMG i'm already shaking!

I'm already saving money to pay as much as I can for a ticket because i wouldn't miss the show for anything in the world. i tell everyone that it is my duty to pay as much as i can because it is my way of giving something back for al the band has given to me. the hours i've been sad, happy, boring, and they have made my days so nice...
fingers crossed now and then, let's wait!

  13. Are we ever going to get new Cure music? It's been years.

    1. Robert has 3 new albums almost finished! They'll be out very soon! As will the Wish remaster, the Reflections DVD, In Orange DVD, Paris DVD, Cure at the BBC boxset, and so much more!

And if you believe that, you're also probably writing a list to Santa right now. :P

Nah, I've given up on new Cure music any time soon. As a great American once said, "fool me once, shame on...shame on you. Fool me...You can't get fooled again!"

      :P

      Delete
    2. But in all seriousness, I would rather Robert wait until he feels he has enough material to make one more killer Cure album, than just put something out that he doesn't feel is strong enough.

      Delete
    3. All the above mentioned projects have been ready for a very long time..
The deliberation would most likely be due to the fact they're not signed by anyone.. Which I know makes no difference for the remasters.. For the albums ( not sure how we got from one to three.. Craig?) this presents a small issue, but nothing Robert couldn't take care of. It's just the question of WHY he's holding off..

      Delete
    4. And, Craig I totally agree on your quality not quantity comment!

    5. yes, craig, quite an american. and things! ;)
and ps: i got a letter FROM santa when my parents were in lapland this month (but i think that's just coincidence). DON'T LET THE DREAM DIE! REMASTERS FOR EVERYONE THIS XMAS!

      Delete
    6. i still believe in santa, probably for the sheer fact that no one else does, my picture disc of Robert and Santa has been on display for near three years now

  14. Just an afterthought and this is purely speculation, of course.. But in the past there has been a pattern that once venue(s) get booked other things tend to bubble to the surface too.. :)

  15. I'd be stoked if they would "man up" and release the additional 12 or 13 songs from the 4:13 Dream Sessions. Even the B sides off those sessions are truly remarkable songs. I'd rather they release it now, but I have a feeling it will end up being a marketing thing...you know, "the lost album by The Cure" released in 2028....kind of the same thing as the re-mastered, re-release, re-vocal recorded The Glove record. It got a lot of hype and publiciity when it came out and I bet even after The Cure is long gone, there will still be releases....look at Zepplin right now...they sure know how to milk the cow!

  16. They should do more Reflections in Europe
    They played it only once!!!

  17. Robert Smith has told more lies to the fans over the years, and failed to make things he said he would do actually occur. I never believe RS until a date is scheduled with tickets on sale, or a product is on the shelves.

Personally, I wish RS would end The Cure with a farewell tour in 2013 and call it a day.

  18. I'm not saying the points you made aren't valid, but don't lose faith,.
There could be any number of circumstances that could explain why things haven't come out when he said or "hinted".. At the end of the day, he's human just like us..

  19. Now a brazilian music journalist for UOL says that The Cure have 3 to 5 dates booked in Brazil.

The official announcement is expected to happen in the following days:

    1. Wonderful. Brasil is like a country with many countries inside!! More than one show would be amazing. Of course, one show in Brasil is enough to make us going totally crazy! Just this rumor drive us crazy!! It's not official yet, but I'm very hopeful this time! In my dreams, just in my dreams (vixi), they could play in Porto Alegre!! Wonderful city... :p

  20. Craig: here is a rough translation of the article. English is obviously not my first language. I'm from effffin Uruguay, and i'm really anxious about all this. Please feel free to correct gramatical mistakes/horrors. I tried to translate the text as faithfully as possible.

News that Robert Smith (The cure's leader) gave some months ago in an interview, are becoming reality. The english band, and dark movement icon, is coming to Argentina.
The expected date for the very much awaited arrival is April, according what "El Cronista" (the newspaper) could found out, but what's not really clear is the exact day.

However, most probable date is April 3rd. That day there will be a mega event with a line-up to confirm in the next days with Pearl Jam, The Black Keys, and Jamiroquai, and also some of the artist that will participate of the Lollapalooza Chile festival on April 6 and 7. Between appear Franz Ferdinand, Queens of the stone age and anthers.

This event will take place in the venue that belongs to IRSA, in "Costanera SUr" where other events already took place, and will be confirmed in the 21st of december. In case of the confirmation of the inclusion of The Cure in the lineup with Pearl Jam and The Black Keys, the organizers will fulfill the promise of "the biggest festival of history", that is the motto used to promote it.

However, some still recommend to gamble some chips to The Cure playing in a Soccer/Football stadium.

The arrival of the cure to Argentina is very much awaited. Last time they stepped on argentinian floor it was 26 years ago, on a chaotic concert in Ferro Stadium. Since then, fans are really enthusiastic with all the announcements year after year.

The band would also play on other markets of the region, like Brasil, Chile and Uruguay.

    1. I haven´t see it yet, i´m searching in radio, online mags, newspapers.

Just heard a couple of mentions on the radio about confirmed dates (Mexico City & Guadalajara) in the next April. No word about the number of shows. And again, the announcement will be made around 21th Dec.

  26. 3 gigs in Mexico City in 2007 made the most beautiful set in the Cure history. Hope Reeves rehearsed some more songs so they could play 70 songs or so. 48 only during the SummerCure... to me it was not enough.

  27. Mexico 2007 ! The Holy Hour, Kyoto Song, The Big Hand, Out Of This World, Killing An Arab, Shiver And Shake, Club America, Faith, Watching Me Fall, A Letter To Elise... Imagine the same kind of 3-day set list in 2013 with Jason, Robert, Simon, Reeves and Roger?!!!!!!
