these are die hard cure fans? dont thonk so... didnt see any of these at the summer festivals... i know a few that are really die hard devotedfans... to me these ones look goth "i wanna be a model " kinda thing. just a sincere opinion.
to jessss: I look like a very plain-Jane girl who you might see buying a soda behind you at the grocery store. And I couldn't attend any summer festivals(sobs)due to financial difficulties, yet I still followed the live streams. I certainly don't think that makes me less of a cure fan. IMHO I don't see what looks have to do with it.
Yeah, I'm a pretty straight-laced looking guy. I part my hair when I comb it. I don't drink or do drugs. I eat poorly, though. I love The Cure, though, and have since I was 13.
Pretty dumb argument from Jesss, i've been a die hard Cure fan for nearly 30 years now and have seen them many times live including this Summer, yet look nothing like your stereotypical Cure fan. Cure fans come in all shapes, sizes and colours. Each one unique. Enjoyed the vid Marc and also love "Bloodflowers" but would have to put "Disintegration" ahead of it.(IMHO) Take care buddy x
cure fans are all races, orientations, backgrounds and such. we're DIVERSE. we don't wear a UNIFORM. that's the beauty in cure fans and music fans as a whole.
Marc, I love your passion and excitement for TC!!! I think you were in front of me in Vegas "09" and I know you were in front on me at Reflections LA!!! I remember thinking how cool he wore the Russian Hockey shirt!!! ;0)
I think what jesss meant was that all of the fans on Scott Witter's site look like goth wannabe models, apart from Marc who's the odd one out.But he is actually a better representation of an average Cure fan in 2012, and the one i personally more relate to out of that bunch (and i am a 45 year old follically challenged Moby look alike die hard fan...) I don't think jesss's comments were aimed at Marc at all...
aaaahhh....Actually, now the whole comment makes sense. I figured that by "these ones" he meant the appearance of the diehard fans he knew and not the people in the book.
If it is so, then I am a complete twat for taking it personally in the first place! SO SO SORRY JESSS!
I think we should keep in mind that Scott is first and foremost trying to take compelling photographs. He's a photographer, and in this case, he's trying to do a project about something else he loves, The Cure.
This is an excerpt from an email Scott sent me back when he originally put up the call for Cure fans and some of us of COF complained about the "look" he was seeking: "I would never intentionally want to exclude anyone, I just do my best to take striking and compelling images and sometimes the edgier the better." And that said, he did end up choosing people with different styles, such as Marc.
from his blog post http://www.scottwitterblog.com/calling-all-cure-fans/
"I’m looking for ALL types, But particularly fans who have more of a Goth look (or can at least pull it off for the shoot). Other stylish characters are welcome too. (Note: I do realize that all Cure fans don’t go around wearing black eyeliner, etc. I don’t. But as a visual story teller it’s my job to convey a message without words so pushing the edgy look helps. That being said, if you are a true Cure fan don’t hesitate to contact me! You’re just as important.)"
You know you have a good spot at a Cure show if you're anywhere near Marc! :D Cool video, I enjoyed watching it.

ReplyDeleteMore please!!
Very cool. Surprised to hear "Bloodflowers" as a favorite album, though.
ReplyDeleteThere was a time when I might have said that - Bloodflowers is great. Very different from anything else, but great.

ReplyDeleteAre you saying because you didnt see him at any of the summer festivals he is not a die hard cure fan? Am I understanding you correctly?
DeleteI'm confused about this as well... I'm also confused about how marc is coming across as a "goth 'i wanna be a model.'"

ReplyDeleteWell done Marc.
DeleteMarc, are you on Twitter?
DeleteGot the video with the Russian Ice Hockey Jersey wrong, it's Mint Car, not Gone! :P

ReplyDeleteGreetings. Here's an interesting interview with Gary Biddles talking about his days with The Cure, Fools Dance and Pressence.
