  1. North America only? Great. :(

    Good luck everyone!

  2. That's what Rhino said. Not my doing at all. : ( They don't want any problems with Universal, who are handling promotions everywhere else.

    ReplyDelete
  3. For fans outside of North America, maybe if you have friends over here, you could enter and have the prize sent to them, and then have them ship it to you?

    Very sorry about this.

    ReplyDelete
  4. em so do you know if the rhino preorders outside the states are getting the sampler for sure craig?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Haven't heard anything on that. They started shipping them out today, so I guess we'll know soon.

  6. Its okay, I have the album, just would of been nice. I entered the slicing comp! =]

    ReplyDelete
  7. And you can still try to win one from Slicing Up Eyeballs. For some reason, they don't have the same restriction that we do. Maybe their promotion is being run by Universal?

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'll try to make it up to you guys in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Call me blind.. or dumb.. but I see the questions on the contest page, but how do you answer them and enter the contest?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Just click on the email link at the bottom of the page, where it says "Email me".

    ReplyDelete
  11. i'm not sure about the first few! but (i think) i'm positive about the rest.. i'll have to think about it and see if anything comes to me :/

    ReplyDelete
  12. Take your time, it will be open for two weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  13. just sent you my answers, only one chance, when do we find out if we got all the correct answers and are entered in the contest?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I will post the answers on June 5th, along with the names of the winners.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Wow! Looks like these questions will draw the line between fans and people who could teach a Cure University course! :)
I'm not gonna try, I'll only embarrass myself, but I bow down to whoever gets this!

    ReplyDelete
  16. @Shannon

if only there were cure university courses

    ReplyDelete
  17. Challenging questions indeed. Hmmm. Educated guessing on some and scraping the ol' memory banks for others. Hmmm.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Lindsey;

Yah! I'd enroll in the University course Lady Gaga 101, but I'm pretty sure her career would be over before I'd graduate:)

But I hear that when you're done that course, you can write your own ticket on Wall Street! (and then retire in embarrassment).

  19. craig, love the new heading on the top of the page :)

  20. I think I have the answers to these questions, all but 5 and 9, I think I narrowed it down though.

In the past few years I have met people at Cure events like the meet up in Vegas, and tribute shows... who have been fans since the TIB. These fans have taught me a thing or two about The Cure. and I thought I knew it all.

I am sure more than 100(easy) will have the answers. Good luck to all

  21. Off topic I know, but listening to the deluxe edition now. First thoughts: the demo version of 'Out of Mine' probably should have been released over the finished version; and 'Delerious Night' is a great track that should have been treated to more in the way of vocals.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Jimbo: Completely agree about Out of Mind. Love that version! Robert sounds a bit mental in it, which really suits the song.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Another thought: The sound on the deluxe edition is awesome!
I don't tend to notice these things usually. I have all Cure albums on CD and all the reissues that the band have put out since '04, and Disintegration is the first time I've noticed any discernable difference in sound.
I am a huge music fan but I don't tend to really notice sonic differences very easily. I've never really bothered with 'top of the range' stereo systems and I'm content most of the time to listen to music through mp3 player or previously a portable CD player with earphones. I am listening to the Deluxe edition through average PC speakers, and I'm blown away at how fresh it sounds. But I think Disintegration an album that's immersed in atmosphere, that you can just sort of let wash over you.
What an amazing package.. I'm elated with how good it is!

    ReplyDelete
  24. The Deluxe Disintegration sound quality is significantly better than the original. Basically its MUCH louder.

I always found that Disintegration was not loud, and you really notice it on the iPOD when you have the shuffle function on.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @rob i never notice things like that. but then again, i'm not a big fan of shuffle. if i put on an album and it's soft, i just turn it up. i don't necessarily feel like louder means better quality.. i'm still looking forward to how it sounds though :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hmm... Gonna have to think about these a bit...

Also, great new heading Craig!! It's lovely

And when this competition's over, would you consider posting the answers? It would be interesting to see what we got right or wrong :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks. : ) Yes, I will post the answers as soon as the contest is over.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah, love the new heading also Craig, and in preparation for the new re-master, which I am waiting patiently for the US version, I have been revisiting all of the remasters so far, and Join the Dots, and "Chain of Flowers", what a great song! Great to see in Disintegration font! But even more pleasing to hear. Also, joining the conversation about the loudness level of the original Disintegration disc, I always loved how it came with instructions! "This music has been mixed to be played LOUD, so TURN it up! A hui hou!

  29. During the Dream Tour, I won front-row seats for the Atlanta show by answering a really tough Cure-trivia question. The DJ seemed shocked, and even asked how I knew the answer. Heehee.

That show started my head-rose-wearing. Good times. :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. @Kate,
    Do you remember the question?

    ReplyDelete
  31. @andy

Of course I remember the question! ;)

    *snug*

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well come on Kate, don't leave us all in such suspense!

    ReplyDelete
  33. here are the individual Dallas show tracks, I didn't know how to group all of these into 1 download, but I separated them and they are in mp3 format, if anyone wants wave files, I have those too, enjoy

  34. @andy,

    @Stephanie, @Darrell:

The question was something like this:

When the record company was preparing to release "Let's Go To Bed" as a single, Robert Smith reportedly did not like the track enough to release it under the name "The Cure."

Under what band name did he consider releasing it, instead?

    ReplyDelete
  35. @ Kate:

    Recur

If only I knew about that contest and lived in Atlanta :o)

    ReplyDelete
  36. @Kate: "Recur"

    What do I win??

    ReplyDelete
  37. @Stephanie: Sorry, I didn't see your answer. You'll have to tell me what Kate sends you

    ReplyDelete
  38. *grin* at Stephanie and GO! :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Craig,

When it's over are you going to give a breakdown of how many people entered and how many people answered correctly/incorrectly?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Rob: Yes I will. Not that many entries so far, so for those of you who did enter, your chances of winning are very good. : )

    ReplyDelete
  41. @Craig: Yay me! That's the only way I ever win anything. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yay! I got them all correct!

    *bounce* *bounce*

    ReplyDelete
  43. I hope you didn't count it against me that I said The Pixies instead of Pixies.

    ReplyDelete
  44. No. Pixies or The Pixies were both accepted. You're good, Joe. : )

    ReplyDelete
  45. Craig,

They where all good questions, did you come up with them?

Who brought in the demo, to become 'The Same Deep Water As You'? This was the temple scratcher for me.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Congratulations Robert, Joseph, and Stephen!

Curious for a breakdown of entries, and how many had all nine correct.

    ReplyDelete
  47. @carnage visors
i got that one because i remembered reading roger's disintegration memories, where he listed who had come up with the demos.

    congratulations to the winners!
i got them all right at least :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. 101 entries. 75 had all 9 correct, 26 had at least one wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Carnage: Yes, they were my questions. : )

    ReplyDelete
  50. Carnage: All the answers have been posted. That one was Simon.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Gender breakdown (as best as I can tell):

    Right - 56 male, 19 female.
    Wrong - 20 male, 6 female.

  52. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  53. @Linsey

I had them all correct also, and I knew the answer to that was in Rodgers aticle, as well as the other two questions in that section. all the other where in the back of my head, they just came easy. I guess I am just a very trivial person, especially when it comes to The Cure, The Simpsons, Star Wars, And in the future probally The Office

    ReplyDelete
  54. Oh well, wasn't like I was expecting to win anyhow. At least I was in the right side of the curve, with all the right answers. Thought it was funny that the Doctor Who question was the one that was missed the most. It was the one for which I had to search the hardest.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Most of the wrong answers on that one, answered Top of the Pops. : )

    ReplyDelete
  56. I was thinking that we should get an email letting us know that our entry made it to your inbox though, you know those sketchy spam email programs, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Okay. I'll do that next time.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Also curious as to whether anyone has received their pre-order cd's in the mail today, North American version that is, from any US stores. Would love to see them going out a couple days early!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yay! I got them all right too! For a young buck, I'm a Cure whiz! Next challenge please ;o) Hey Craig, how does Rhino send off the prizes to the random picked winners? Do they send email notification first and then we give them our mailing address or were we suppose to include our address when we submitted our answers?

    ReplyDelete
  60. no worries Craig, :-), nice for you to even run the contest!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I have contacted the 3 winners, they will give me their shipping address, and I'll give it to Rhino, who are doing the actual shipping of prizes.

    ReplyDelete
  62. those were my two choices - the only long running BBC series i've ever heard of are top of the pops and doctor who hahaha. i thought doctor who was a better guess.

after i submitted it actually, i came across that website where it's mentioned. not an easy site to find though.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Oh yeah, Craig, on a different note, how are things down in New Orleans with all the crap happening in the Gulf? I tell you, it has been heartbreaking seeing all of the images over the last few days of sea birds just completely smothered by it! Very disturbing, not to mention the human toll it will take.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I knew the Doctor Who answer from an old issue Select, when Mixed up came out.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Thanks for running this contest, Craig!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Not only does the video have the police boxes... but c'mon... the song is an obvious homage to the Dr. Who theme...

    ReplyDelete
  67. @J. never seen an episode of doctor who in my life

    ReplyDelete
  68. @Lindsey, I'll admit, unhip as it may be, I'm not that into current Dr. Who. I found the older Tom Baker stuff to be fun to have on in the background while my friends and I played Starcraft. Incidentally, I find Tom Baker and mid 70's Roger Daltrey to look eerily similar, which confused the hell out of me as a young kid. The Who/Dr. Who; I thought they were somehow related.

Check out youtube for a clip of the original Dr. Who theme song. Fascination St. isn't a knock off, but musically it seems like an homage. (Lyrically it has nothing to do with the Dr.)
