Mogwai talks about The Cure

"Just returned from seeing the UK premiere of the Mogwai live movie "Burning" which was filmed in Brooklyn. During the Q&A session I asked Stuart how the band enjoyed the Curiosa tour. He loved playing with The Cure but found the whole thing a bit odd. Barry then recounted a hilarious story of the San Francisco date where a female spent the whole Mogwai set stood up giving them the finger. Any one want to admit to this?

Stuart was also asked if any live films had influenced him and he said that "In Orange" had been a massive influence - he had really enjoyed it. So he was very happy when I told him afterwards about its imminent dvd release He also said that he had contributed to the Disintegration reissue sleeve notes."
(Thanks Hugh)

  2. If it ever sees the light of day... according to amazon.de the German release date has been pushed back again to May 28th :-(((((

  3. And Best Buy has pulled their listing for it, and sent out an email to customers saying it has been delayed...until Dec. 31st, 2025! : ) That just means the date has changed, and they don't have a new one just yet.

No word from anyone else about another delay.

  5. I'm not surprised they found Curiosa a bit odd too--they were so early on the schedule; at the show I attended they went on right after the gates opened and played to about 50 people in broad daylight! They were amazing but so few people saw them.

  6. Okay, good. So, Disintegration is at least going to be released. I just got an email from amazon.ca that said there'd be a delay until May 4th.

I like hearing Mogwai because they're pretty honest about stuff and don't kiss butt.

Even though I missed them at Curiosa, it got me to buy their latest CD (Happy Songs For Happy People) and that helped me get into the band. So, participating in Curiosa was good for their CD sales to this fan. It's still my favorite Mogwai album. Can't wait for the special edition live album "Special Moves", which will include "Burning".

This Mogwai fan blog (http://brightlight-youngteam.blogspot.com/) is just as dedicated as our pal Craig is to The Cure. I use it for all my Mogwai info.

  10. MoggieBoy, what are "alkies"?

  11. muld: alcoholics.

mogwai is for me the next logical progression music-wise after outgrowing the cure. although their last two albums haven't been up to their first two (not counting 'come on die young' because it's not very good), they're still one of my favorite bands. 'rock action' is an incredible album. i highly recommend it.

  12. I'm sure booze has no effect whatsoever on The Cure. After the amount of drug consumption they went through during the 80's they must be immune to alcohol by now.

I'm thinking about looking into Mogwai. Any idea's where I should start?

  14. asi no mas es la hueá, I'm sorry for your troubles. I'll pray for Chile.

Scott, Rock Action has some good ones: Sine Wave, O I Sleep, Take Me Somewhere Nice. The last 2 albums have one or two amazing tracks and then the rest of it is good, but not great to me. I LOVE "Friend of the Night" and "Scotland's Shame", though. Very disappointed that the band didn't make "Dracula Family" available as a cheap download. I have to buy the whole album on itunes to get it!
