Update 2: Here's the video. (Thanks Explodingboy)
Update: Looks like it will be The Cure doing Primary. Sounds like a great show!
"There’s a show on Australian TV on ABC called Rage and this Saturday night(30/01/10), they will replay an old program called Studio 31. This is what their twitter feedsaid about it: “Just unearthed a show called Studio 31 - it's 1980s Countdown performances! Don't think these have been seen in decades... - performances from Adam & The Ants, Status Quo, The Police, The Ramones, The Village People, Cheap Trick, The Cure...” Apparently Rage (which is an all night program) will open with the replay of Studio 31…" (Thanks Marc)

I might be wrong, but I think Countdown is Australia's version of Top of the Pops. So these performances by The Cure were probably recorded in London for Top of the Pops back in the day. Looks like they will be showing Primary and Lovecats.
ReplyDeleteTheir website lists the Cure performance as being Primary for Studio 31. Lovecats looks to just be a video clip on the Countdown special.
ReplyDeleteI know what I will be watching tonight.
ReplyDeleteIt was filmed 'live' for a tv show here in australia. Robert 'plays' bass.
ReplyDeleteIt's likely the performance already available on DVD..

oh god, that was painful! Looks like they were hating every second of it! And Robert's lip synching?! Well, at least they had a cool set up and they looked cute!
ReplyDeleteHmm.. home alone tonight so will have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteI will test my willpower and not watch it on Youtube.. but if it's the clip I'm thinking of (I think explodingboy may have given me a clue) then it would be good to watch it all.. (?)
Ha! I love seeing bands just not give a toss on shows like this. Ta for the link :)
ReplyDeleteCraigers, you gotta tell me whether you've been watching "Caprica". It's really good!
ReplyDeleteRage ran a "Cure special" back in about 1990 showing a lot of their old videos, which at that point in time I hadn't seen before 10.15, play for today, primary etc plus videos of robert with the banshees prudence, swimming horses etc.. This was really the pivotal moment in getting me "hooked".
ReplyDeletehaha....oh. that's choice.
ReplyDeleteCool!
ReplyDeletehey, i loved it! they looked great, always loved that era :)
ReplyDeleteHi! Greetings from Argentina.
ReplyDeleteA web site tells that Simon and Porl left the band... did anyone knows something about it??
Love,
V.
PS:I used to play Keyboards in CUREOSA, a tribute band. Check it out...

Hi Dana. There has been a lot of speculation over this "flux" Robert mentioned in his last post on Thecure.com
ReplyDeleteNothing is confirmed, although I would imagine if Simon left, Robert would call it a day. More speculation has been put on Porl's status...
Which website has said simon has left?
ReplyDeleteCharlottes website says "SIMON - Some Bass Player"
ReplyDeleteswifty, dear, more jokes, please...
ReplyDeletegreat little clip by the cure on rage...wonder how many of these little gems are floating around...wasnt there noise about a cure TV appearance compilation DVD thing a while back from robert...now I'd buy that....they did look good back then ...nostalgia...
ReplyDeleteThanks for answer me... so we have to wait...
ReplyDeleteLove,
V.
although it is unsettling seeing Molly scrawled next to Mary on the back drop...eeek...there's an unlikely association...
ReplyDeleteHey, Craig, quick question. When are you going to post the event that I e-mailed to you?
ReplyDeleteGuys where can I see the video, did anyone tape?
ReplyDeleteThey look so bored and pissed-off, I wonder if they were protesting against having to lip-synch.
ReplyDeleteI love the bit at 2:35 where Robert, who should be singing, takes about three steps back from the microphone, turns around, smiles at lol then realizes he should be lip-syncing.
ReplyDeleteExtra tit-bits...
ReplyDeleteThe Countdown voice compere introduced the performance with :
"One of the big finds of 1981 was "The Cure". They cured our musical ills on Countdown with Primary"
...and then signed off with :
"Do you feel better? That's the Cure and Primary".
Bahahaha awesome x] the way they blatantly DO NOT lip sync or even PLAY right is hilarious XD amazing...
