Paris 2008 Live DVD?

Word from Paris tonight is that the show is being filmed and may be released on dvd. If true, let's hope they do a Blu-Ray release as well. And they might as well release Trilogy, In Orange and Show in Blu too.

    This is a GREAT idea. Only yesterday was I saying, "Boy, it really sucks that I have to switch DVDs to listen to One Hundred Years and Push live. I really wish they'd put them on the same DVD"

    Yes, I know they filmed it. Doesn't mean it will be released though. Robert's attic is full of things that were supposed to be released and never were.

    Well call me crazy but according to my copy of festival 2005 there is as many as 19 or 20 different songs on the Paris setlist....No doubt not all the songs people want to hear but just a thought

    it wasn't the best setlist ever (wrong number, alt.end, friday... there are so many better songs to choose than these ones), but the band played an amazing 3 hours and 30 minutes concert !

    oh great, yet another live dvd! don't we have enough after in orange, live in japan, play out, show, trilogy and festival 2005?! i am distinctly unimpressed.

    much better would be putting out some new material or play out on dvd - back before the long slow slide into mediocrity.

    Man, what a setlist, 42 songs, 3 hours and 30 minutes, and a 4th encore of Faith!! They have to release this on DVD, and I agree, all of their other video recordings, remastered!

    Fantastic Paris setlist? The mere fact that they played alt.end makes that statement an impossibility.

    And, judging by the fact that they've only played 3 songs from this new mysterious double-album that is supposed to contain some 26 songs...Either Robert thinks the new album really sucks (which is impossible because the newest Cure album, by default, always becomes Robert's favorite album) or the new album won't be coming out anytime this spring.

    Unfortunately quantity doesn't means quality!
    They played the wortst part of their repertory (wrong number, alt end, close to me,...) the three new tracks are so bad and some "old" tracks like primary were completely badly played...
    No really, that was my worst Cure concerts ever...
    Sorry for the people who believe they went to an "historical" concert (arf, arf...).

    It's a pain in the arse, but things are getting a bit pathetic... yesterday show was a total nonsense... and this thing is supposed to become a dvd???... saw them eleven times since 87, and this is the first time i leave before the end... fell asleep during "Freak show" and decided to leave on a murdered "close to me"... The absolute mystery is: incredible band and concert for a first third-end of the world, pictures of you, lovesong, to wish impossible things... in one shot and truly better than ever- then a bunch of has-been led by the Tom Jones of goth playing a totally incoherent setlist (horrible things like "Wrong number..."Never enough" with only ONE guitar, EVERY hits from the 80's, "Push" sounding like a hard fm epic, the pointless self-parodic 3 new songs)... A real mystery. So ok, the band do seem to enjoy... and robert smith has become an unlikely showman... and they play for hours and hours...but what about relevance? What about being an alternative? What about faith and surprise? I love them though... It's just that... I don't need them as a british Grateful Dead.

    How can you release a DVD following up a 26 songs new double album, if you only play 3 new songs in it... I guess they'll record another concert in the US, with the new songs, and they'll mix both...

    By the way, where the f are the great songs performed in fall 2007 ? Holy hour ? doing the unstuck ? big hand ? torture ? maybe someday ? club america (*) ?

    I surely miss a little ambition, playing totally unusual songs like "all i want", "give me it" or "short term effect"... : these are perfectly playable without keyboards... I dont even dare to think to definetly dead great keyboard driven songs...

    @eric: I was really hoping for "Doing the Unstuck" at the two shows I saw in Europe, since I saw they played it on the third night in Mexico City (which, imho, could arguably be one of the best setlists ever :) ). Hopefully that will return to their repertoire when they hit the states!

    For the love of all that is holy, will somebody please tell Robert Smith that "alt.end" sucks. I mean, it really really sucks. And from what I can see, he's been playing it at EVERY show to far this year. Oh the horror.

    He's stuck on "End of the World" as well, and that ain't helping things.

    Well I'm more complaining on the songs they could play than on the songs they do play...
    From the last album, I guess "The promise" or "Lost" or "Truth Goodness and Beauty" would sound pretty good with one bass and 2 guitars...
    This is a typical Festival set-list, loads of single and not a lot of risks... this is what i dont get.

    I agree, choice of songs was not that good... how many alt.endoftheworldwrongnumberfreakshow or pleaseproject do we have to endure to finally get a few jewels like grinding halt, faith, jumping someone else's train...

    TALK ABOUT THE FILMING NOW...
    as a cameraman, I have to say that what I saw on video screens was pretty bad looking. many flying cameras on cranes, an automatic camera in front of the stage... it seemed like filming one more U2 or any "big band live" concert.
    F**K THAT !!! THE CURE DESERVES A BETTER TREATMENT!!!

    WHEN WILL ROBERT ASK A GOOD DIRECTOR , a REAL CINEMATOGRAPHER, someone who has an EYE !!? and not only a good technician who will do another product for flat screens and Xmas... something that you watch once and then forget (like the awful 2005 "festival" dvd)

    In comparison, watch what Depeche Mode or Bob Dylan did with D.A.Pennebaker for example... Musical film ? Watch "Block Party"! The difference : there is someone with a vision behind the camera. no automatic cameras in front of the stage...

    Even bring back Tim Pope (who filmed the Orange concert) !!
    NOW that was a brilliantly filmed concert , there was a real director's vision. that's what make that particular film so good.
    COULD SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ROBERT !???

    Why is everyone being so negative with the Cure lately? The last 4 albums all took this long to come out. Settle down everyone. I sense that everyone has had enough time to catch up to the history of the Cure to call themselves a so called "expert" on when it was good. On what was good and what is now being called "shit". I've been a Cure fan forever now and I can't remember such a negative group of Cure fans ever. Surrounding a world tour and soon to be released album. The Cure do not deserve all this second guessing and nay-saying. They have earned the right to do whatever they want. We are lucky to have our favorite band still touring and doing something relevant. Quit all this bashing and slighting. I'm just happy that I get to see the band I have been a fan of since I was 6 years old. If you wanted a baller setlist then you should have toured all of the Dream Tour like I did. You should have listened to Robert when he said the shows were gonna be something special. Now you want all this intricate and well detailed music when the Cure have obviously changed and evolved in what they want to do live. You snooze you lose. It's like asking the Cure "Hey can you guys go back to 1989 and do what you did back then?" Nope. Doesn't work that way. Things change. People change. Deal with it.

    What the fuck is everybody's beef with ALT.END? I happen to really enjoy this song, and have been a diehard Cure fan for almost 30 years! I thought it was one of the best songs on the last album actually, in fact, I loved the last album as well.

    I agree, alt.end is a pretty good song, and the last album wasn't bad either (although it could have been much better had they swapped several of the tracks for their b-sides). My gripe with the 4Tour setlists has more to do with pop rubbish like Wrong Number.

    The point is that since WMS onwards the quality of their songs and albums have become much more disputable, whereas it's hard to find Cure fans that don't like Wish, Disintegration, KMKMKM... they might prefer one song over another, but the overall perception of their old albums seemed to be much more commonly positive among fans. Or is it just my impression?

    That concert was said to be the peak of The Cure live at that point in the lineup.

    I have heard this on audio cassette audience recording bootleg and it's a great show!

    the band Pearl Jam did something like release live CDs from every show starting in

    2000 on a tour and ship within 48 hours. The Front of House sound engineer mixer

    would mix the show for CD Audio release within 24 hours.
    The band released 72 live albums in 2000 and 2001.

    Even if The Cure use the soundboard mix for tours from 1985, 1987, 1992 fans would

    want to get a great show even if not mixed to perfection.
    Why not self-release via the band's website?
    It was costly back in the 1980s to record multitrack audio on concerts and that's

    why the mobile truck recording was used for things like the 1984 CONCERT live

    recording that was released through the label.
    These days bands have their entire show recorded to 48 tracks _EVERY_NIGHT_!Bands

    like Nine Inch Nails,
    Bands like Phish actually release these live shows over time.
    While one commenter on this site posted that he didn't want The Cure to be a

    British Grateful Dead there is something to be said for recording of all shows for

    posterity and archives. When the right vibe and night hits it will have been

    recorded and can be released for fans as the band's favorite night musically of

    the tour.

    Oh and I would love to have a soundboard copy of The Cure's long version of "Faith" from June 4th,1989-Rome,Italy (Palaeur) protesting the killing of civilians at Tiananmen Square protests of 1989.
    The bootlegged recording of this 15 minute improvised lyric version is known as "Tiananmen Faith"
