yep...smith would say vocals + words taking long time...but...words?? how many "however " "deep inside" "love" "hands" "tears" "eyes" "lost" repeat lyrics will we get?? place yer bets...
These aren't 'throwaway' instrumentals, but they are extremely left field compositions that aren't really meant for everyone. You won't find any radio friendly material on here. That said, it's an incredible collection of music, a soundtrack for daydreams.
Throwaway??? Have you listened to this album? It's fantastic! Want a "proper" 12 track album? Get this, pick your favorite 12 tracks, burn it, live happily ever after.
I think the bottom line of the comments, especially the first one, is that NIN lately have been connecting with their audience in more than one way, mostly via the web. And that's commendable. They have leaked tracks online (and in venues' bathrooms!), they are exploring new routes for commercial release and sometimes tease fans in the proximity of new releases (like this latest one, but also Year Zero in 2007). Generally NIN seem to be keen to keep a constant connection with their fanbase. Now, that's not to say that The Cure should follow the same routes, but it would be nice if the fans could get more involved in the making of the new album. For god's sake they used to be pioneers in such things (anyone remembers the live studio clips in the past?). Whatever happened to that now? Geffen's website is depressing because it is impersonal, and in my opinion it seems to go against everything The Cure have always represented.
I'm still sad that the supposed Trent Reznor/Robert Smith collaboration never saw the light of day - Robert's solo album that was in the works after Bloodflowers...
Trent has a lot of aesthetics and business models that I wish Robert would use for the Cure.. the only problem is the Cure are freshly signed with yet another crappy record label, while Trent gets to do whatever he wants now.
Nine Inch Nails creeps me out. I am an athiest but Trent wanders into some territory I think is best left alone. Even if he is a normal(ish) guy the people that are core fans are pretty creepy folks.
I've yet to listen to it, but love the fact that he's doing this. I completely agree to with what's been said about Reznor constantly pushing boundaries with how his work reaches people....
All of that said, I do wonder about charging $300 for a signed item. It's not like he needs the money, and while I am sure the deluxe edition will be beautiful, it almost seems like a piss take just to see what he can get away with.
Nil, That $300 version is more than just the signed cd. Doesn't matter now, they sold all 2,500 already. I just wish they would make the Blu-Ray disc available separately.
I know it's more than just signed, but given that they will be selling the vinyl separately for $40 (yes, I know that's 130g vs 180g), you can chalk up the bulk of the $200 difference to the 'personal touch'.
Also, it's nice to see them already popping up on ebay for $600-2000!
The Blu-Ray may well pop up at some time, so fingers crossed. I think they've changed the FAQ since yesterday, no? Unless I saw it elsewhere, yesterday it said that other versions of the release would be coming (details to be announced).
This is a fantastic album! It's different and takes a few listens to fully appreciate it.. But Trent Reznor is a genius. Robert is a God as well but I wish his lyrics would get better like they were in the past.
This instrumental project from Trent sounds like A "Blair Witch" Soundtrack. It's pretty horrible. Maybe Trent should spend more time making an album than 10 weeks!
The Cure's first two singles "The only one" and "Ny Trip" both blow New NIN's out of the water by a long shot.
10 weeks to make an album, ten.

ReplyDeletethe well is truely dry
just wondering what this has to do with the cure, but hey.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather have a proper 12 track album than 36 throwaway instrumentals.

ReplyDeleteHuh? What territory is that, exactly? The realm of the non-4/4 time signature?
