  8. in all honesty, the Amazon.com mp3s are better and cheaper. 256kbps mp3s as opposed to 128kbs mp3s from iTunes. I downloaded Freakshow a couple months back off iTunes and was heavily disappointed with sound quality.

  9. You'd think there'd be somewhere around Chicago that I could get a copy tonight but I can't find one. I'ts 4 am so trying to decide if I should stay up at this point or go to sleep, lol. :D

  11. I've finally got my copy of the album! Still haven't listened to it , and will have to wait till tonight before I do. I'm quite anxious as I have so far resisted the temptation to listen to it on the internet.

Also, the artwork on my copy (and all those in the shop) is a lot more yellow than what I see everywhere else. Not at all white in fact, but yellowish, and all the colours are more vivid. I really like it a lot better (love it in fact) this way, it reminds me of The Top artwork, whith vivid yellow, pink, blue and red.
Anybody can confirm that this is how it looks with their copies as well?

  12. In Philly today its Cold, Dark, Rainy, Windy, Dreary.....just Downright Depressing! What a perfect day to buy a Cure Record! :)

In just 3 hours I'll be heading out on my lunch hour to get the CD at B&N! I so excited, I don't know how I'm going to get any work done today since I'll be listening to it the rest of the afternoon.

But come tonight I'll get myself into a dark room, turn up the sound & listen in pure bliss. :)

The album is finally here!!! YAY!!!

  14. Cool Mike, I'll be listening to it very soon! We couldn't expect a more perfect day for the New Cure Album! However, the weather really really sucks for the World Series. Can't believe it got delayed last night but hopefully tonight the Phillies will be the World Series Champs!

    Go Phillies!!!! :)

  16. Just got it!! I'm going to listen to it in a bit when I know I'll have the home to myself.

It was kinda funny, behind me was a woman that looked to be in her late 30's, I asked her if this was what she was after as well, and she said "yes, I've been waiting a year for this stupid cd."

Got a kick out of that.

  17. Humptydumpty - Yes, it looks like the artwork is more yellow than pictures I've seen on the web. I love it! It's colorful, yet sorta eerie and off-kilter, but perfect.

  20. Just gave it a listen all the way through. Wow is all I can say. There isn't a single song I don't like, and it ends like a crazy lunatic suicide roller coaster. It gets so loud and abrasive that I almost felt like I was listening to a metal band. But it's still very much The Cure. Awesome direction for the band to take.

Strange that nobody is talking on the day of the release...you'd think this place would be jumping!

  21. "Cheap, cheap, cheap!"

h&j, why don't you read the daily newspaper to take your mind off of things - i know a lot of mindless Cure sheep like to catch up on the news by reading the Wool Street Journal.

  22. lol
I'm alright now, I just bought it!!!
So, I can breath easy, now all I've got to do is play the waiting game until works done...
    mmm

  23. I took the CD up to the counter at Virgin and the guy was like, "oh! The new Cure album. Hard to top Disintegration!"

    There's no escape.

  24. Hey guys, I was wondering if any audiophiles here could tell me how much difference they can hear between the album off a CD versus a 192 kbps ripped mp3, or a 256 kbps mp3, or whatever.

I'm being sort of fiddly about this, but I'm going to listen to it mostly from my ipod and I want to have high quality ... but I just wonder how high is high enough.

Oh, and any thoughts on VBR (variable bit rate encoding)?

    ReplyDelete
  25. tracebrazenshade - there is a difference in sound quality but it's most likely heard when you're playing music out of a really good stereo system, for iPod usage 192kbps is fine. and VBR is good because it uses just as much as needed for each individual song.

  26. Just got at FYE after school and I haven't gotten a chance to listen to it till now when I got home...

All I have to say it wow.

I'm really surprised to how good it is. Underneath the Stars...The Scream...AHHH!

In FYE I was going crazy looking for it, I was like WHERE THE FUCK IS IT AHHHH And I finally asked a worker and he led me to it. -_-

Robert's voice on Underneath the Stars. So gentle. AMAZING :)

  27. I can't get through UTS to get to the rest of the album as I cannot stop crying, it is so beautiful.

  28. I wouldn't say its the best Cure album ever. Better than 2004, that's for sure. But only a few of the songs really jumped out of me:

    Switch
    Scream
Baby Rag Dog Book (I refuse to call its "Its Over).

I actually I freaking LOVE Scream. Instant classic for me.

But you guys ruined UTS for me I think. Its been all hyped up, though, I think it was doomed to never be able to meet all those expectations. But it is a good song.

Still love Sleep When I'm Dead. And Scream.

Not really big on Reasons Why or Hungry Ghost or This Here And Now Right Now This Very Minute Right Now With you :)

But I repeat. Fucking LOVE Scream.

  29. Switch is really good...

Kinda reminds me of Blue Man Group too...Heh..

  30. DA - Good call !! 4:13's two most fantastic songs are THE SCREAM and SLEEP WHEN I'M DEAD, I couldn't agree more!
