scoott? ;)
ReplyDeletealso, although this line-
ReplyDelete"But really they could have dragged the guy who sleeps on the roundabout near my house down to the studio, given him loads of ketamine and strapped boxing gloves on him and he would have done a better job"
was pretty funny, overall i LOVE the production on this album. it's what was missing from the last two albums. though i was afraid at first that it might be OVERDONE, based on the singles, i'm happy to say that, in my opinion, that's not the case.
Yeah, yeah, typing too quickly...corrected now.
ReplyDeletecraig, with your myriad of activities throughout the days, i forgive you.
ReplyDeleteThat Quietus review was SCATHING. yikes.
ReplyDeleteLook at all the reviews!
ReplyDeleteAlso about the Quietus review...how is UTS in the least bit in the style of The Kiss?
ReplyDeleteNew word of the day: digital compression.
ReplyDeleteAnybody felt like the Quietus guy was jacking off while writing this?
A lot of his examples just felt weird and strained. And I think the guy fell to much in love with his words.
hynreck, you're just reacting to the digital compression unit that's lodged in your skull.
ReplyDeleteROTFLMAO that review was hilarious!
ReplyDeleteand bad.
maybe hilariously bad. but i laughed pretty hard. it's like we live in different dimensions! hoo. whatta doozy!
That's probably that thingamajig lodged in my skull that made me write to instead of too, too.
ReplyDeletetoo too
I HAVE THE ALBUM A DAY EARLY THANKS TO MY SWEET TALKING THEM INTO SELLING IT TO ME NOW
ReplyDeleteLURVE IT and the YUMMY GUITAR WORK! VIVA LE PORL!
Hungry Ghost... slurpiness!
Well I finally got my copy today and I love it so "bleh" to the (very few) negative reviews.
ReplyDeleteit's wonderful, period. a very aggressive record, actually... kinda blatantly in yo face.
ReplyDeletesure, flaws will crop up over time after copious listens, as with ALL cure records
but first listen i get a sense of YUMMYNESS
One thing that blew me away was the last two tracks and how "Pornography" they sounded. It just took me off guard but in a good way.
ReplyDeleteEXACTLY ANDREW
ReplyDeleteVERY PORNO-ESQUE ESPECIALLY THE SCREAM
WHICH IS JUST MANIC MADNESS INCARNATED
LURVE IT
The album is a bit lopsided but it WORKS that way
listening again and again and again
Am I going nuts or does The Reasons Why sound very much like Strum?
ReplyDeleteA bit
ReplyDeleteI LOVE TRW - best cure song since ever
And SWID sounds good good good nestled among the other songs - and yet as a single it kinda lacks
THE SCREAM though
carthartic YUMMABLES
that growly hooooowwwwwl
OK - so I have read the Quietus review.
ReplyDeleteIf anything "stinks worse than a fourteen-year-old's wank sock after a rainy bank holiday weekend in Southport." it would have to be this guy's review.
"UTS is in the style of The Kiss" (sic) WTF!!!!!!
This guy obviously likes the sound of his own voice, his 'descriptive' style, that would be funny if valid, just ended up annoying the crap out me. I started scanning the review rather than reading it due to the waffle that this guy had used to simply reach his 'word count'.
*wonders if she should go back to bed, and then get out on the right side*
I have just read the Quietus review and there is a person who thinks exactly the same way I do about Roberts latest effort. It is clear he is "stuck in a rut" and is making albums at present to nobly attempt to satisfy the cravings of the his adoring fans. I would much prefer he took the time and effort and try to match the QUALITY of his older material and show some inovation like he used to.
ReplyDeleteoh rayp, you amuse
ReplyDeletebest album in FOREVER
and i love BF and WMS and like TC and b-sides like TGB
but of course i am mindless cure sheep
baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
if the scream fails to induce you to thrash around wildly into walls and smash shit up then you MIGHT be comatose :-)
cheers ray... i mean no offense, but i don't get your mindset...
As I said before in another topic....Once I get this album in my hands tomorrow, I'm going to stop reading the shitty reviews like the Quietus one.
ReplyDeleteThat review was just dead awful but the rest were OK. Really it shouldn't matter what they say, it's just someone's opinion. I'm going to love this album no matter who loves it or not.
Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.........
ReplyDeleteI'm a mindless Cure Sheep too!
Doesn't matter----70's, 80's, 90's & 00's Cure I Love it all!!!!!! I can't wait to get the album tomorrow! I'm super duper excited!!!!!!!! :)
Actually I think the Quietus review is good, in the sense that it is valid point of view from someone who has clearly listened to the album. Personally I tend to agree with the overall sentiment, although I still like the album, so wouldn't be so negative about it. But I do thing it is overproduced, and I do think the songwriting is a huge improvement over 'The Cure'. I did prefer the production on that one, and, at the moment, much prefer the live versions of a lot of the songs, esp UTS and Hungry Ghost.
ReplyDeletebum, I bought the London Paper one in to send this morning - I wanted a thank you :(
ReplyDeletep.s. i am absolutely lost in this album
ReplyDeletegoing to the record store after work to get 413 as well as the new deerhunter and the dears...i like deer.
ReplyDeleteanyways, the allmusic review sucked. i read that yesterday and almost lost all faith in that resource. 2 out of 5 stars?! what i've heard of 413dream is a slip back into the 80s cure pop but mosdef a step forward from the last three albums. c'mon allmusic! i say 4 out of 5...at least.

ReplyDeleteThat review was so bad, it should be withdrawn...and forever known as Quietus Interruptus!
