ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteThe Pitchfork review kind of has a purpose in that it cements that idea that I think that everyone's enjoyment of this album hinges on if you like the production or not...
ReplyDeleteOverall a very fair review...I agree with most of it...but i would have given the album a 7.5.
i can't form a coherent sentence this morning. ugh.
ReplyDeleteFrom the last paragraph of Pop Matters' review, I think I can understand why the UK press is loving this album: they ignored Cure for so long that it is sounding fresh again to them.
ReplyDeletePretty spot on review from Pfork, and mostly spot on from Popmatters.
ReplyDeleteThat's how I'd describe most of this album, too - adequate.
the more i listen, the more i agree with the idea that the album is a bit better than average, but not quite brilliant. i wish there were more details to certain songs and less compression on the album as a whole. i do like the melodies alot, however- much better than in recent memory. i absolutely cannot get T.H&N.WY out of my head. and the lyrics are eons better than the last three albums.
ReplyDeleteThe Pitchfork review is pretty interesting, personally, because it reads like the reviewer probably actually enjoyed the album a fair bit, but his bosses wouldn't let him put a higher score on it. Regardless, its refreshing to read a Pitchfork review that actually talks about the MUSIC, so I'm fairly comfortable with it.
ReplyDeleteI love the Halloween theme on the site Craig. Is that the Hungry Ghost at the top I see? (I bet I'm like the 100th person to say that)
ReplyDeleteAnyway the reviews are good. I couldn't be more pleased. However I am looking at this album as a first installment rather than a standalone piece even though IMO it works both ways.
In Colombia you can buy 4:13 dream in Tower records http://www.towerrecords.com.co/DetallesProducto.aspx?id=119761 or prodiscos http://www.prodiscos.com.co/DetallesProducto.aspx?id=119761...
ReplyDeletei wish pitchfork would've focused MORE on the songs rather than his musings about peripheral shit.
ReplyDeletebut what can you do? it's pitchfork for chrissakes.
Thanks Andy and Sofia. And yes, that's the Hungry Ghost roaming around up there. : )
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween to all of you!
