yeah, right now sirensong is easily my favorite, because it's so different, but so cure. then UTS, then hungry ghost, then reasons why. verdict is still out on scream and it's over...snow white is not doing much for me right now.

After about two hours of digging around, I've got to say that this album is a pretty well kept secret. The live songs are great, and kudos to those of you who've managed to find the studio versions of the songs.

ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if the vinyl will be mastered differently? I've got one on order, but I'm finding that the new way of mastering things doesn't make vinyl sound so good anymore. Of course, CDs aren't sounding so great lately either......

And WOW this album is going to rock! I spent most of the night watching the videos over & over. Awesome! The Hungry Ghost & Sirensong (go Porl on the steel guitar)& The Reasons Why but they are all sounding so amazing! It's going to be a great album & I want it now. And a Dark Album! Woot Woot it's only getting better!

I also missed the fun because I went out to have a little hiking yesterday...but the first thing I did when I got home was to check COF and listened to the mp3 of the show. (Thank you so much Craig and other people for the MP3s and Youtube vids!) And then I went to bed as an exhausted but very very very happy Cure fan.
ReplyDeleteThis album ROCKS. The Cure ROCKS. My favorite (beside UTS, of course) so far is The Scream, The Hungry Ghost and Switch...but all the songs are good. I really think there's no weak track on this album. And I believe this'll be their best album in ten years.

ReplyDeleteIt's really shaping up to be an excellent album, The Scream is awesome, but then most of this stuff is. I'm trying to stay objective, but this is too good, it really is a dream.
As for Eric, just wanted to give my 2 cents, I do believe he is really french, from Montréal, just like me. I don't want to insult him or anything, but I'm pretty sure he is from what some would call, the poor side of town. He probably never went far in school. That would explain the atrocious mistakes he is making.
As for the authenticity of being who he says he is, I believe him because of the cuss words he uses. Things that us, Quebequers, say all the time.
I don't think an internet translator would have that kind of words available!

ReplyDeleteeven though the songs are a huge improvement from most of "the cure" the songs still for me re not that inspiring. Siren song, the scream, underneath the stars, freakshow, this here and now with you, are the best for me.

1.lost (although with maybe a little bit of an intro)
2.before three
3.labyrinth (another one they should play more)
4.truth goodness beauty (this is the last really good cure song for me)
5.the end of the world (even though i think its a rubbish song i appreciate it more without rogers overuse of the moog)
6.anniversary
7.dragon hunters song (why not? its a cool song)
8.fake
9.taking off
10.alt.end (even though its basically a sped up riff of in your house)
11.this morning
12.going nowhere
this would have made the album a decent outing with just a simple change a-roo of tracks
i don't know whats going on..is shit, never is shit, and the promise is 10 minutes of shit, thats a go to the bathroom song same as watching me fall from bloodflowers..just goes on too long and serves no purpose to be that long
and and for the record maybe someday is pretty horrible too...
for me it feels like the last album with the cure feeling, sound , vibe, personality was WMS, and still unfortunately Wish was where they peaked,,,,now they are in the same vein as rockers like the stones ,or polce, a few new songs from time to time and the rest will be the familiar "hits" or fan favs...which just goes to show that the new material does not stand the test of time like the other stuff
so my bandwidth limit is going to exceed. but not to worry craig - i am uploading elsewhere and will give you a link ASAP.

Eric is from Québec, 100 % sure. He uses a very poor level of french canadian and write phonetically, it's hard to understand even for me.

ReplyDeleteI'll leave final judgement until I hear the studio versions, but so far, I think three of the B-sides (NY Trip, Down Under and Without You) rival most songs on the album. I just don't get It's Over (now, or as BRDB). It's abrasive and tuneless, and sounds like an outtake from The Cure album. But overall, these songs have surpassed by expectations!

I got laid off from my job last Friday, so a new Cure is what the doctor ordered. I'm stoked for this album. "Switch" is my favorite of the "new" new songs so far, it's got that late eighties/early nineties Cure vibe that I just can't get enough of. It could've come straight off of Wish.
