Interesting-looking guitar designed by Porl. Could've done without the snakes, though -- both cliche and creepy. I HATE snakes. This guy was walking down the street in my city with a live boa constrictor wrapped around his body and I freaked out; walked back to the intersection and crossed and, for the next few days, had this shivering sensation whenever I thought of it. I was scared to turn the corner of city blocks. There are just some safety issues you take for granted in a city....
The artist that made the guitar is Kev Grey http://www.kevgrey.com and it's worth a look. There's a certain 50s tattoo sailor feel to it which I love it. Have not found a guitar similar the Porl's Schecture in unique stile. I was surprise that Porl did not create the artwork himself. I have a replica of it. The sound is huge compared to other semi hollow body. Everynote is full thanks to the pickup. My Porl's guitar does have a looser main volume knob. The only thing I don't like is that the neck it a little too narrow. The second gripe is that there is no pick guard. I miss resting my hand on a good pick guard.
Guitar is actally designed by Kev Grey. http://www.kevgrey.com/
And actually there will be of course differences in what Porl is actually playing from the ones we would buy at stores. For example look at the cool X Porl has an inlay at the 12th fret position.
Also got in touch with schecter once. It's a Korean guitar.. which I think won't hold it's value..
I would only buy the one that was owned by Porl(My hero)
Kate - The price of the guitar seems reasonable. The regular Corsair, in which Porl's is based, cost about 200.00 less. I think his name and the graphics make up for the difference. The commercial version of this guitar is Korean made to make it more affordable. Take a similar guitar, let's say a Gibson ES-335, and the price will start at about $2,000.00.
One last note: During the tour, Michael Ciravolo (Schecter's president), made a comment that RS's acoustic guitar was an adapted stock model. That means that RS was playing a Korean made guitar.

Nah, xuan, it's just my usual obscure references. That snake incident in the city really did scare me!
ReplyDeleteHas anyone seen a Eccleshall 335 basses up for sale? I'm thinking it was custom made for Simon and would like to get my hands on it.
ReplyDeletelol yay :) I want this so bad haha
ReplyDeleteand kev grey's art is very cool
craig- sorry that e-mail sent twice my internet was messing up
Hey Xuan, maybe you can steal simon's guitar. Doesn't look like there are much of them out there.
ReplyDeleteGreat looking bass though.
So, has Porl played this specific instrument? Or, did he just provide the artwork?
ReplyDeleteHow does that work?
Kate - they are replicas. The instrument bears Porl's name and was built to his specifications.
ReplyDeletemsp000, thanks for the information. It makes sense.
ReplyDeleteSo, is there a huge markup on the price of the guitar because it is branded as Porl's? Would a similiar instrument be priced as such?
Kate the art work was done by British artist Kev Grey. Would be cool if it was Porl's but I still love it! Id get it if I knew how to play the guitar.
ReplyDeleteThanks, kitty!
ReplyDeleteNo problem Kate!
ReplyDeleteAnd duh to me, I now see that xuan already posted that Kev Grey did the art work. I should read all the posts before I make any comments!
BTW Kev's art is really cool! :)

Porl used to play a Gibson ES-335.
