Nothing really new here, but with the Play.com confusion, thought it might be a good idea to post the release dates that are listed at the various branches of "The Mighty U":
Oct. 24th - Italy, Germany
Oct. 27th - Europe
Oct. 28th - North America
Nov. 5th - Japan

ReplyDeleteThis comes out so soon I can't beleive that the album hasn't leaked or that samples aren't available - of course I'm convinced that Craig has had the album since June =)
ReplyDeletehmm really soon indeed, just wondering wheere can i know the realese date in my country (mexico)??
ReplyDeleteJPX: Even Robert hasn't had the album since June! : )
ReplyDeleteWHAT?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteIt's been DELAYED AGAIN?!?!?
Oh, wait, never mind. :-P
Cool, this is TRES exciting - just a few more weeks, Cure dorks!!
:-D
Gig in Rome..album out in Italy first...wtf????
ReplyDeleteIt's because they release albums on friday.
ReplyDeleteI remember downloading Bloodflowers a good couple of weeks before it dropped. Hopefully be around soon.
ReplyDeleteMarc: Yeah, I had a copy of the album in Nov. 99! The problem with BF was that they had finished it in late Summer/early Autumn of 99, but Elektra didn't want to release it until Feb. 2000. They were afraid it would get lost in all the Y2K/New Millennium celebrations, if it had been released late in 99.
ReplyDeletedammit, i hope it's NOT leaked before it's released. i would rather revel in the thrill of driving to the store, slapping down my moolah, ripping off the plastic, and blaring it on my stereo for the first time. i want it to be a VIRGIN experience, if you will. the RIPPING off the plastic and INSERTING the DISC into my STEREO will be the most exciting parts of course - and then the climax will CUM when i hear the waaaaaaves break...
ReplyDelete:-P
I guess there will be some sort of snippet on the front page of the main site.
ReplyDelete... mal posso esperar por esse dia ! FNAC aqui vou eeeeuuuuuuu
ReplyDeleteHey Craig, not really news, but I've finished the Part 2 of my Primary Colors of the Cure article if you'd like to read / post it.
ReplyDeleteHi Craig, Hi Cat. LOFL!! By the time I'd written my last post you'd posted that! Very funny.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I'm torn between desperately wanting to hear a preview (obviously UTS being the priority) and wanting the "virgin" experience.
Hello Rev. Sorry to cut in! I meant to leave a post after the first part to say how good it was.
ReplyDeleteI love all those tools you find! The word one is great, too.
Rev: Are you going to Rome? Just curious, since you alluded to buying plane tickets when the show was still in the unconfirmed phase. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat's "The Mighty U"? Is that Universal Music Group? I thought Robert's record was released by Ross Robinson's label that was owned by the David Geffen Company, not Universal.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, how come we never hear anything about The Cure from Mr. Geffen, just that guy we all hate?
Geffen is the record label. Universal Music Group owns a ton of labels.
ReplyDeleteI thought they had a three record deal to record with Ross Robinson exclusively. Was it abandoned? Dropped?
Muld: Universal is the parent company. The Cure are on Suretone/Geffen, but all a part of the mighty U.
ReplyDeleteThey moved over to SureTone, with Jordan Schur, when he left Geffen.
ReplyDeleteAlso note that the new album is on the I AM label which is Ross Robinson's I believe.
ReplyDeleteMarc: Where are you seeing IAM listed for the new album?
ReplyDeleteHere: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cure%27s_thirteenth_album
ReplyDeleteIs it wrong?
Oh, wikipedia? When is it ever right? : ) It doesn't even list SureTone.
ReplyDeleteThe official press release says Geffen/Suretone. I haven't seen I Am/Ross mentioned in years. And thank goodness for that!
LOL. You're right. Let's get on there and edit it!
ReplyDeleteI see that Ross has The Cure on his Myspace friends list. Funny, 'cos they all, apart from Robert, hate him.
The Japanese edition will be released on November 5 with a fold-out insert of commentary & translation of the lyrics, and a obi-strip on the jacket as usual. The price is 2,500 yen.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Junko!
ReplyDeletei still don't get all the label deal, i know that Universal is kinda like the BIG one, but then why are they with suretone/geffen?? plus i never see suretone/geffen mentioned or anything, i only know about them because they appear on the official and on the back of CD covers but i still dont understand
ReplyDeletejust when i think i've gotten the whole ross robinson debacle out of my mind, someone goes and mentions it. thanks a lot, guys.
ReplyDelete"The problem with BF was that they had finished it in late Summer/early Autumn of 99, but Elektra didn't want to release it until Feb. 2000. They were afraid it would get lost in all the Y2K/New Millennium celebrations..."
ReplyDeleteSo instead it got lost due to the total lack of promotion, singles, or videos...
junko,
ReplyDeleteIs there any word on whether the Japanese release will be on the SHM-CD format?
And do any of you audiophiles know whether there's really any sonic improvement with SHM-CD, or is it just marketing crap?
Thanks, marc and Craig.
ReplyDeletebrad, I remember even Robert ridiculed the idea and intentionally hampered the album's commercial appeal. I remember reading an article in which Robert sought revenge for the underpromotion of Galore; he invited execs over and played the album. He asked what their favorite songs were, and then took them off the final version of the album. Pretty gutsy, but I hope we get those songs. I wonder what they were.
Brad: There is a huge debate going on about SHM-CD here:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.sa-cd.net/showthread.php?page=1
I think these guys purport to be audiophiles. Either way, it doesn't seem that a lot of these guys are buying into it. The MIGHTY U pushes this tech and argue that the plastic they use in SHM-CDs is clearer and leads to better sound. Not sure how this works since all CDs are digital and the music they contain is written in 1 and 0s. Not like a needle on vinyl or anything like that.
Thanks craig for the official release dates! It's great that the album is finally be coming out in just 3 weeks! No more delays!!! I can't wait till Oct 28th to finally have it!
ReplyDeleteJust around the corner!
ReplyDeleteJust have to wait a little while longer!
Then I will have my beloved UTS in my aching little palms!!!!!!!
Oh, the anticipation...
I just hope it's not another WMS. Like "Underneath the Stars", "Want" was also pretty awesome, but it was pretty much the only great track. I already enjoy "Freakshow" quite a bit, but I really hope either this album or the next one has the power of the slow songs on "Wish".
ReplyDeleteSorry to be a pain but SACD is not the same as SHMCD. I hope they do bring out an SHMCD version but it looks unlikely as they were going to but cancelled it and Robert said it'll be THE SAME everywhere! Just ask Craig ;P
ReplyDeletePJW, thanks for your comments, it's nice to know that people enjoy the posts.
ReplyDeleteHi V!
I did check out tickets and timelines and such, but I just couldn't make an overseas trip work out on that short of notice. So, sadly I won't be going. I'll be here though, if there's anyone doing live updates!
Hey Craig, If you post an update with my stuff on the front page, can you please add that the 2nd printing of the Nightmare shirt is up for pre-order, and the deadline is Monday the 13th? I'd appreciate it if you could help me get the word out, a lot of folks missed out on the first printing.
Thanks!!
Hi, Brad! There hasn't been any official announcement came from Universal Japan yet but HMV Japan says the SHM-CD version is cancelled now. I think Mighty U Japan has found it difficuult to sell the high-priced special version without any bonus tracks.
ReplyDeleteAhh exciting! I'll be banging on the doors of Zavvi bright and early on the 27th!
ReplyDeleteI too am hoping the album doesn't get leaked before the release. I just love that feeling you get when you're holding a brand new Cure album in your grubby little mits, with the opening song cascading out of your speakers while you flick through the CD booklet... *sigh* Nothing matches that feeling =)

ReplyDeletepjw, now i'm embarrassed. i forgot that you would be reading that. my humble apologies. :-)
ReplyDeletei am amazed that you are a UTS virgin, though. lucky you! your ears have not been spoiled and so you won't know how good/bad the studio version is.

ReplyDeleteStigmurder: You and me both :P
ReplyDeleteStigmurder: You and me both :P
ReplyDeleteI.m a UTS virgin too!
ReplyDeleteAural pleasures await...
I meant I'll be banging on the doors of Zavvi, Tottenham Court Road also :P
ReplyDeleteExit planned for October 24 in Italy and Germany and that on October 27 for another European country
ReplyDeleteI do not believe in it!!!!!!! It is not right
Too much privilege for the Italians!!!!! lol
And during the concert in Rome us one is satisfied with a best On NRJ 17 to 20 h30, it is better than nothing to say you
Maybe some people should start to think that the world in non-US centric. I'm very pleased that The Cure decided to premiere the new album here in Italy and in my hometown. I'm double pleased that we and the germans will buy the new album on october 24th and I'm triple pleased that the album will be sold in USA only on october 28th! ahahahahah I'm just jocking :-) Giampiero (I hope we all like the new album, it doesn't bother if I'll buy it on 24 and the US fans on 28th, I hope only that will be a great album)
ReplyDeleteWe'll all have it long before the 28th (or the 24th) anyway :)
ReplyDeletemyabe it's just because the last record sold very well here in Italy entering as second..the best position they ever made here despite worldwide "The Cure" dindt sell too much..so we deserve it!
ReplyDeleteUS release date just 20 short or long days ahead (depending upon your view of life either optimistic or pessimistic)till we get 4:13 Dream!!!
ReplyDeleteEither way YAHOO!!!! :) :) :) It’s almost time for something new! :)
Right now I'm just focusing on the 13th. Robert said there was going to be something then and I'm hoping for an updated official site.
ReplyDeleteOf course, there's that little show in Rome to look forward too... <_<
Really, if they don't update the official site by the 13th...
ReplyDelete13 fans get a chance to win an all expenses paid evening with Robert and the band for a 4:13 Dream listening party!! : )

ReplyDeleteAwesome Idea Morris!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteArchitec{t): Are you shitting us?
ReplyDeletePlease email me ASAP!!
Really Architec{t)is it true???
ReplyDeleteIf so that's amazing! Too bad there's not a K-mart close by to where I live, I'd go just to see if they had a copy too. Why couldn't it be Wal-mart??? There's at least 5 of them within 20 miles of my house!
Oh well I hope it sounds great but please try not to let us know too much about the cd this early before the release. I know I'd like to be surprised by it when I hear it for the 1st time and I'm sure others do too.
since i believe this is architect's first ever post, i would have to guess it's pure BS. good one, though, as you got everyone salivating.
ReplyDeleteMB I have a feeling it's a load of pure, utter BS myself but when I 1st read it, I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt. I'm not one to say someone is lying when I have no proof that they are telling the truth or not telling the truth.
ReplyDeleteIf the guy can produce some real evidence that he has it (like a picture of him holding the CD or a picture of it at K-mart) then I'll believe him but for now I'll remain highly skeptical.
*Waits for bad review of the album that automaticaly should follow bs post*
ReplyDeleteNot totally beyond the realm of possibility - yesterday was Tuesday which is the weekly release day.
ReplyDeleteWould have expected to see it on the interwebs by now, though, if that many copies made it out.
Even though I call BS 99.9% on this. (the .01 is pure hope) I still started looking for internet leaks
ReplyDeleteGod this wait is painful T.T
I'd rather not hear it before I get it in my greedy hands... but I'd be curious about reading mini-reviews, feedback, comments, the such.
ReplyDeleteMakes waiting easier and/or more exciting.
It's total, unadulterated bullshit, clearly. He prolly works for K-mart!
ReplyDeleteAnd the whole faux-folksy tone of the post - name-dropping streets and towns, alluding to but not elaboarting on the merit of the album - gimme a break! ROFL!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletePLEASE........................
ReplyDeleteStop the BS
If anyone is interested, my San Jose recording is now on dimeadozen.org in both 16 and 24 bit. Also, there's still a few seeders for Morrison, West Valley City, George, Santa Barbara, and Hollywood.
ReplyDeletegolly, fake posts and spam all in the same day!
ReplyDeleteKMART would never carry The Cure, have you looked at their music section lately? Most likely the only thing in the C section would by Miley Cyrus. There is absolutely zero chance that architech picked up a copy of the new cd. If he had he would've provided details. Otherwise I could easily say, "Hey I went to Starbucks today and wouldn't you know it they had the new Cure album! Best $17 I ever spent." Whatever architech.
ReplyDeleteI agree with ya jpx, I was fooled by this post. I'm just so anxious for the new cd that at 1st glance this BS made me a bit jumpy & I believed the guy but only for short while.
ReplyDeleteAll this spam, BS, fake news.....ugh Cure madness is setting in!!! :p

ReplyDelete(sorry in advance, craig)
ReplyDeleteguys, you'll never believe it, but i was in akron, ohio, today at the mcdonald's on oak st., and guess who was in front of me? ROBERT SMITH! he ordered a fillet o'fish and chocolate milkshake, and asked if he could eat with me. i had to think about it (mostly because i ordered mcnuggets and didn't want to be embarrassed), but i said yes.
he and i chatted for about an hour- he's SO cool! at the end, when he was leaving, he gave me a copy of 4:13 dream, a copy of the dark album (not going to tell you what it's called), an advance copy of 'more imaginary years' (he said i could do some editing), and a few CDs with tons of lost cure demos and b-sides from the last 20 years. he said not to share any of them though, so sorry.
WHAT A DAY!
Wow Monkeybutt, that is so cool!! Can I just have your autograph, I swear, I'd never wash my left nut if you would just sign there!!!
ReplyDeleteAll of a sudden this board got a lot of no-show profiles... hmmm.
But wow, really, I'm heading out right now to the nearest KFC, who knows? I might get lucky.
monkeybutt made me lol hard XD
ReplyDeleteAnd *I* just met Porl at an eyebrow weaving salon on 5th and Main, and he gave me a copy of Architect's new album, "I Love Trolls Cuz I am One, Yo" and it SUCKS!!
ReplyDeleteSomeone want to call and ask?:
ReplyDeleteKmart
1055 Draper Pkwy, Draper UT 84020, 801-571-0015
This Draper is near Sandy, UT
Marc: The guy is joking! 4:13 is NOT out yet. At least not at retail.
ReplyDelete:(
ReplyDeleteThis is me sulking.
A friend of a friend of a friend of mine just told me that Robert leaked some of the new CD's to K-Mart yesterday & if you were lucky enough to get it you'll be invited to a secret party, interview, jam session with the band the day the CD is released in the states and then they will come to your home town and put on a show for all you family & friends. Also Robert said he'll start to post on the COF each day and personally thank each & everyone of us that we are the greatest fans.................... :P
ReplyDeleteAw, come on Marc, I'll e-mail you the DARK ALBUM instead.
ReplyDeleteI've found it in a bargain bin at Canadian Tire. Good stuff. I'm surprise it wasn't a success.
hynreck, canadian tire is the greatest store in the world. seriously.
ReplyDeleteI'm not usually this gullible, you know. I should of known when he/she said "anywho". No self-respecting Cure fan says that.
ReplyDeleteOff topic: Anyone have a PS3 here? I have a spare Little Big Planet key code if anyone wants it.
ReplyDelete"I Love Trolls Cuz I am One, Yo"
ReplyDeleteThat just made my day! XD
And whoever said they've just met Robert is lying; right now our RSX is sitting in my lounge drinking tequila.
...anywho...
ReplyDeleteMarc don't feel so bad, I fell for it too.
ReplyDeletemarc: i'm trying to get my wife to say yes to a ps3 so i can play mlb 08: the show.
ReplyDeleteme: honey, it's a gaming system AND a top-shelf blu-ray player, all in one. and there are even games for GIRLS...
Hahahaha....good one, MB. : )
ReplyDeletecraig, sadly she isn't buying it yet. i'm considering sabotaging our old DVD player...
ReplyDelete*waves to B*
ReplyDeleteyay, ill defintly be picking up the 24 bit, been waiting for that! :)
Monkeybutt: Rock Band was the deciding force for my wife. You should see her on the drums :)
ReplyDeleteThat's another thing: when are we going to see The Cure on Rock Band and/or Guitar Hero? Anywho...
