Sleep When I'm Dead on July 15th?

From a reliable source : "Looks like “Sleep When I’m Dead” might be the July single with a July 15th street date…not sure of b-side at the moment"
And "Freakshow" is set for US release on June 10th.

  1. I can live with that. :)

  2. Me too Shawn. And Perfect Boy in august. : )

    ReplyDelete
  3. Got my local record store on top of it. Thanks for that info.

Took me 2 weeks to get "The Only One", hopefully the rest of the singles will be available in a smoother fashion.

    ReplyDelete
  4. wait...i feel like i'm out of the loop. so is abink just an album track so far?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Sofia - we're not even sure it will make the Sept. album yet. Only RS knows for sure and he ain't talking. : )

    ReplyDelete
  6. since those are the 4 tracks that consistently make it into the setlists, of course there's no reason to doubt that they are the 4 singles.

    ReplyDelete
  7. A Boy I Never Knew should be a single. Period. It's superior to The Perfect Boy, and I think that it has the potential to be a hit.

    ReplyDelete
  8. No way, Perfect Boy stomps all over the Boy INK, then beats it up with Sofia's boxing gloves. : )

    ReplyDelete
  9. Craig, do I have to come down to NO and turn you into the Krewe of Orpheus' next float? Stop talking smack! :P

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'd prefer to be a Bacchus float, but let's not get into that. : )

    ReplyDelete
  11. confirmed: b-side is a cover of 'never gonna give you up.' we've all been curerolled!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hmm seems like the singles plan has changed quite a lot since last October.
Three singles "One poppy, one dancey and one sad" (Paraphrasing).

ABINK wouldn't be a good single, imo. Its too sad and serious.

But A perfect boy and Sleep when i'm dead could be good :).

    ReplyDelete
  13. i'll be wearing my fancy dress boxing gloves for the radio city show, craig. the lacey ones. it will be difficult to text, but not impossible! ;D

    ReplyDelete
  14. Too sad and serious? What would you consider something like November Rain, Crucify, Winter, Dear God A Letter to Elise, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oops, forgot to add the comma between the last two song titles.

    ReplyDelete
  16. shawn-w: You might not agree with me here but I consider A letter to Elise to be happier and less sadder than AKINK.
I can't think of a Cure single that has ever been very sad or serious, even POY and ALTE have have musical arrengements that can be considered to be happy and uplifting in parts.

    ReplyDelete
  17. "AKINK."

don't let clockwise cat see that abbreviation.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Urgh, posted to earlier

P.S However, I think ABINK should be a album only track because it doesn't have that uplifting or slightly playful tune which come along with most Cure singles.

I probably make no sense at all :|.

    ReplyDelete
  19. monkeybutt: I knew someone would spot that, grrr. ;).

    ReplyDelete
  20. Horray for pre-orders, I love Freak Show <3

    ReplyDelete
  21. MonkeyButt: I wanna hear Rick Astley do a cover of "Club America".

    ReplyDelete
  22. I´m with shawn. ABINK could be good single. Why can´t be a single slow, sad and serious? Of course i like SWID and PB, but why not something different?

    ReplyDelete
  23. v, that would be freaking great. maybe i would like the song if it had an uber-disco beat.

    ReplyDelete
  24. anah, do you actually have the single? how's that possible?

    ReplyDelete
  25. What about A Forest, Other Voices, or The Hanging Garden? Also, what about Robert's stuff with The Glove, specifically Punish Me With Kisses?

    ReplyDelete
  26. MonkeyButt: Could a Rick Astley song have anything but a great beat? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anah - you have it?!?! Hi, remember me, I'm your best friend. And best friends always share, right? : )

    ReplyDelete
  28. lol, craig.

has anah ever posted here? if we never hear from him/her again, it was probably just a troll trying to get a rise out of us and laughing as we freak out wondering how someone could have the new cure single a week early and is enjoying the studio version and the b-side that none of us have ever heard before. not that i'm freaking out. i'm not freaking out at all. i don't care if someone else has it and i don't. i don't mind that someone else is listening to it and i'm not. doesn't bother me a bit. i'm not concerned at all. not even a little.

    ReplyDelete
  29. i love being rickrolled on cure messageboards

    :|

    ReplyDelete
  30. shawn-w: I agree with you there, espcially with other voices. However, Cure singles now are completely different from the way they were then: almost every cure single since 1983 then has a commercial feel to them. I don't think Robert would release a completely downbeat song (Sad lyrics, music, overtones) again.

I don't know what it is really but I never felt as if ABINK was a single ish type of song, to me it would be like if they'd released The Loudest Sound as a single. I think i'd find it a bit odd to be honest.
As I said, I probably make no sense :S.

    ReplyDelete
  31. You guys are silly, no I don't have it yet. I'm just happy that I pre-ordered the pack from Ideal Copy and just get them auto shipped when they get released.

I would love to say I have it, and you don't-but alas, I am not that well connected! I wish!

And no, I haven't really posted here yet, but have been a CoF'er (LOL) for years.

  32. Yeah, I thought that was you Anah. Thanks for not holding out on me and Monkey. : )

    ReplyDelete
  33. Cool... it goes from worst to best. Wonder if that's deliberate?

    The Only One
    Freakshow
    SWID
    APB

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh, and to Beau, I'm not saying that you're wrong in your opinion, but the band should really try something different instead of making every pop song a single, and other bands have released singles that were serious in tone and scored big. I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I know that my eyes begin to glaze over when all I hear is pop pop pop. Something different would get my attention.

    ReplyDelete
  35. oh, and ABINK should NOT be a single. It's wonderful, but NO.

    ReplyDelete
  36. in my opinion, the only one is vastly superior to what i've heard of freakshow so far, and i'm even less enamored of sleep when i'm dead than i was initially. i've been listening to the only one repeatedly, on headphones and in my car, and it's really a great fucking song. there's so much more going on than at first listen.

i agree on the perfect boy, however. that song's the best. totally love it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hmmmm, I would like a bit of diversity too :) but I do have this really odd feeking about having ABINK as a single for some reason. Ahh well :).

    ReplyDelete
  38. Feeking?
    Freudian slips galore tonight.
    I mean "feeling".

    ReplyDelete
  39. monkeybutt, in one of the live vids of one of the cali shows, the only one sounded awesome. as is sometimes the case with cure songs, it sounds better live.

i don't dig the studio version, though. still lovin' EOTW more. ;-)

  40. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  41. i can't even think of what any of the songs sound like right now, frankly. summer flus are the worst.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I guess that "13th" thing hasn't really worked out, huh? Close enough, though. We still get a single a month.

I'm quite looking forward to "Freakshow", but I've put all my single pre-orders on delay because I don't wanna get too distracted from my school work until its done.

Big thanks to you, Craig, for letting us know the amazon.ca link offered the CDs at $1.99, since I would have stopped checking!

    ReplyDelete
  43. again, i'm just glad i'm ten minutes from amoeba.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Craig-

Did I read it right that you were at the show liast night? I wish I would have known, I was there too.

And interestingly enough, happened to have a seat right next to Autumn from the Pictures Of You site.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anybody ever notice that the term "poppy" (and I'm not talking about the stuff opium comes from) is only used in relation to The Cure and no other band?

    ReplyDelete
  46. anah - no, that was a different Craig. I was here in NO doing the live updates. : )

    ReplyDelete
  47. unless it's the stuff opium comes from, i'm not interested in talking about it...

    ReplyDelete
  48. cat, i hear you about EOTW.

    meaning, you're nuts. :D

    ReplyDelete
  49. LOL.

i do think APB is the best of the three (EOTW, TOO, and ABP), though. Unless Robert goes all Ross Robinson and screws up the studio version.

    ReplyDelete
  50. this is one song that i could totally hear with a harder edge (TPB). at the bowl, they were riffing pretty hard (with that cure style behind it, of course) and it was just great. reminded me of a 70s rock tune, of all things. in a good way.

    ReplyDelete
  51. "...Unless Robert goes all Ross Robinson and screws up the studio version."

I wonder what Robert really thinks of the last album. And on the same note, I wonder what Porl thought of it.

    ReplyDelete
  52. mb: well, robert has been mining his classic rock influences a lot on the last coupla albums, and seemingly for this one too. i like that. i love that brdb sounds all 70s hard rock. and yes, apb sounds a bit like that too, but with the signature cure sound permeating.

i pray to buddha that he don't fuck up the studio versions, though!

i have too much time to worry about such ultimately trivial things. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  53. anah, that's a great question. i often think of porl listening to the albums the cure has released since he left after wish, and wondering what his thoughts were on all of them.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I wonder what Mathieu Hartley thought of it.

    ;)

Seriously, tho, I also wonder how Robert feels about Ross Robinson's work in retrospect.

    ReplyDelete
  55. anah: my sense is that he probably still likes it, but can hear the flaws a bit more. i think its main flaw is the mix/production. other than that, most of the songs are great. imo. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  56. except EOTW...

    BAZOOOOOM!

    *flees*

    ReplyDelete
  57. Well, at least we know what Simon, Roger and Perry thought of the album, and of double R. : )

    ReplyDelete
  58. man alive, what surreal times those were four years ago. such "promise" with RR, and such a letdown as far as the mix (in some parts, anyway - with some songs it worked). and such a HUGE letdown with the tracklist/multiple version fiasco. i really love parts of the cure a lot, but i just find it a travesty about the thousand diff versions and the exclusion of tgb and tm and gn.

of course, i'm a broken record by now...

    ReplyDelete
  59. Clockwise: Seen anything interesting on YouTube today? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  60. I sometimes wonder what Andy Anderson thought in 1989 and 1992. Same goes for Michael Dempsey and Phil Thornalley.

    ReplyDelete
  61. V - poor Jo is still asleep. she'll have a nice surprise waiting for her. : )

    ReplyDelete
  62. Craig: And how! :) Damn! Quite a view...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Craig: Do you know if the Cat saw it?

    ReplyDelete
  64. V - Yes, Cat saw it. Her comments were predictable. : )

    ReplyDelete
  65. Craig: Okay! Just making sure she didn't somehow miss it.

(It being the video, of course!)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Jo is WIDE-AWAKE now!!!!! But has to get ready for work :(.

    Have fun everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Lol Elise!!! :) Have a good day at work. :)

    ReplyDelete
  68. I'm curious about Porl's opinion because it wasn't shortly after that album was out that The Hammer Came Down, and we Porl replace Roger and Perry.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I think Porl doesn´t like wms either

    ReplyDelete
  70. If there is a Christmas album, I strongly suspect A Boy I Never Knew will be on it.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I thunk "Sleep When I'm Dead" makes a great comeback killer single

    ReplyDelete
  72. I think "Sleep When I'm Dead" makes a great comeback killer single

    ReplyDelete
  73. can i tell you what i think of bloodflowers and ross robinson?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Simon is a punk-hunk with some fine assets. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  75. "can i tell you what i think of bloodflowers and ross robinson?"

As long as you realize that Ross had nothing to do with Bloodflowers.

    ReplyDelete
  76. i thought the singles would all come out on the 13th of each month *gets upset*. is that still the plan, or?

monkeybutt - if you live near amoeba, then we live close to each other 0_0

    ReplyDelete
  77. christianz,

pfft. obviously you don't know me very well!

    ReplyDelete
  78. but my opinion of both is the same.

    ReplyDelete
  79. "What about A Forest, Other Voices, or The Hanging Garden?"

Actually, I think "Other Voices" was never released as a single, or am I wrong? It appears in the "Staring at the Sea" CD and video but was not included in the original "Standing on a Beach" LP compilation.

Anyway, don't forget "Charlotte Sometimes". That was a pretty melancholic single.

But the greatest missing opportunity was "One More Time". That had all the potential to be asuccessful slow romantic single back in 1987. I can imagine Cure fans singing it with Robert in concerts all over the world. A pity, they never even play it live, nowadays...

    ReplyDelete
  80. "Anybody ever notice that the term "poppy" (and I'm not talking about the stuff opium comes from) is only used in relation to The Cure and no other band?"

Well, Siouxsie & The Banshees do have a song called "Poppy Day". I suppose it sometimes gets mentioned in reviews of the "Join Hands" album...

Although it's true that that song mentions "poppy fields" and I don´t think it's referring to Robert Smith singing "The Lovecats" in some Yorkshire countryside landscape...

    ReplyDelete
  81. This is fast forwarding from earlier posts, but totally agreed, A Boy I Never Knew would work great as a single...And they can afford to do that.... (having 4 singles out in a row), To have one that's not too upbeat does make sense..It is such a great song..It really grew on me on the European tour...Elsewhere on this site i moaned about how lucky you guys have been to have so many new songs played during the U.S tour(what with Want, The Big Hand etc last night), but You are missing out on ABINK....It's huge!

    ReplyDelete
  82. A Boy I Never Knew will never be a ingle and rightly so. This really feels like an album track. The Cure have some melancholy singles but they all have some anthemic dimension (Charlotte, Pictures of You, Hanging Garden). Singles either have to be catchy or somehow make you curious about the album (the reviled "13th" managed to do both at the same time!). ABINK does neither.

    ReplyDelete
  83. "Singles either have to be catchy or somehow make you curious about the album..ABINK does neither"....well excuse me but it makes me very curious about the album, that's for sure!!!

    ReplyDelete
  84. i think the title of the song should actually be changed to ABINK. it has that certain mysterious quality we've come to expect from the cure.

    ReplyDelete
  85. revolt, you're right. I'd always thought of Other Voices and A Night Like This as singles, but they never were, nor were 10:15 Saturday Night or Play for Today. Hmm, well I guess that Duran Duran isn't alone in making music videos for songs that were never singles.

    ReplyDelete
  86. i cant believe they release 'freak show" as a single...its not good enough for a b-side...what are they thinking????? I am a cure fan...but some things i will never understand (end of the world...single...WTF)...

    ReplyDelete
  87. calling clockwise cat, party of 1?

    ReplyDelete
  88. What kind of singles would you rather have Marco?
For me, even bad cure is good cure.
    Freakshow is different and interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  89. @Monkey butt....hilarious thanks....where is she?

    ReplyDelete
  90. APB is the most complete song of the 4. It grabs you immediately, passion aside, it is the single you want out when they introduce the album. I liked it of course as a fan, but when fair weathered critics gravitate towards it, as they did ealier in the northeast, it speaks volumes about the over all appeal. They know what they are doing.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I like Freakshow. I don't LOVE it so far, though. But at least it's diff. Whatevs. Bring on the fucking album. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  92. I have a feeling that the studio cut of Freak Show might sound a bit better. I actually like it. In fact, I've been 100% pleased with all the new stuff. This is shaping up to be the best album since Wish (imho).

    ReplyDelete
  93. There is no way that we're getting a "Christmas album", it makes no sense whatsoever. Is Robert going to release "Dream 13" in September and then another new album in December? No way, that's just a fantasy. I mean, just getting Dream 13 out has been a difficult pregnancy, the damn thing is still crowning!

    ReplyDelete
  94. JPX: Great analogy - and imagery - there! Haha!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  95. Seriously, this has been the most painful release of an album I've ever experienced. Instead of getting it all at once we're getting it in drips and drabs via concerts and single releases. I love all the new stuff and I just want Robert to push the damn thing out already - I'll even cut the cord =)

    ReplyDelete
  96. ewwwwwww. bloody dripping screaming newborn curebaby!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Yea should be bloody 13 or somethin'!

    ReplyDelete
