"I posted a thread on another board about The Cure's Coachella unplugging, and someone posted a link there a short time ago to a blog entry from one of the sound engineers that night, who described the event from their point of view. " (Thanks Shawn)

what a great find Shawn!
ReplyDeleteThat show was so f'n fun! seen them 5 times and this was by far the most dynamic and electric. the unplugging only unified the experience even further.
ReplyDeleteFxxxxg size of that stage!!Must have been great being there..
ReplyDeleteSo, did someone throw a beer bottle that shorted out the board? i know i probably misread the article but apart from this being the best system for sound it seems not much was discussed in this article as to why the Cure were shut down.
ReplyDeleteThere's no mystery to it. The Cure went way past curfew, the police were telling the organizers to shut it down, and that's what they did.
ReplyDeleteIt was epic! Something I will never forget! =)
ReplyDeletea few minutes after the plug was pulled and they left the stage i did see a large bottle get thrown on stage. people also started chanting f*** you and you could see the security was highly annoyed. i believe it was keith who handed a few setlists to a security guard and before he could hand them out another security guard knocked them out of his hand onto the ground and started yelling at people to leave. with that said the show was definitely epic as everyone has been saying and a moment in time i will never forget.
ReplyDeleteCraig, even though that's the case, the engineer's account directly contradicts what Indio's police chief said about merely reminding the promoter when it hits midnight, and letting them and the band decide how they want to end it. If the police are directly interfering, the the chief should have the cojones to be honest about it.
ReplyDeleteI meant "Then the chief", not "the the".
ReplyDeleteOh, and Andy, thanks. :)
ReplyDeletei started the F.U. chant. it was the only words i thought could get through in hopes something bigger would unfold (like the power being turned back on for 10 lousy minutes to hear "Faith"). But everyone was hot & tired and i don't blame them. The Cure were on fire all night. Sorry if i offended anyone.

ReplyDeletei was not offended at all by the f*** you chanting as it was clearly directed towards the promoters/venue/anyone that would listen. haha. when i think back to that brief period of time it was just crazy how much happened in that 10 minute span. it was nice to hear the people around me singing along to boys don't cry but when it came to jumping someone else's train i was singing it by myself for everyone. it was so much fun though. :)
