Have they ever done an NPR program? In the last 10 years?
ReplyDeletewhat are they going to be broadcasting, an interview or something?? A bunch of Cure songs?
ReplyDeleteYes, interview and some live cuts. From their website:
ReplyDeleteDavid Dye welcomes The Cure for music and conversation drawn from their new album 4:13 Dream. Anticipation grew as four different singles were unveiled on the thirteenth of each month leading up to the album release. With a renewed rock edge driven by original guitarist Porl Thomson, and signature keyboards and synths pushed to the background, 4:13 Dream still bears Robert Smith’s trademark brooding lyrics.
Excellent! I have been waiting for a good interview! I listen to NPR!
ReplyDeleteThis should be really good. XPN is the radio station that produces World Cafe, and David Dye actually asks interesting researched questions. God only knows when this was recorded, as World Cafe is out of Philadelphia... I suspect the live cuts aren't from a "World Cafe Live" session, as I would have been selling my kidneys to see it. xpn.org streams live.
ReplyDeletei googled around and found a World Cafe on 2820 Main St in Santa Monica, CA
ReplyDeletewere thinking they're recording early in the morning as we think there's something going on.
i'm at brian's (xploding_boy's) house seeing if we can find any info on whats going on this morning.
nothing as of yet. and it's 4:13am right now
oh, and brian's dog just bit through my charger
for a few moments there i thought that they would be down the street in Philly on Friday...and then i was about to explode...
ReplyDeleteI am a big NPR listener, so this could be interesting...

ReplyDeleteMost definitively I'll be listening to this show Friday afternoon, I always listen to WXPN. It's the only decent radio station left in Philly!
ReplyDeleteI’m wondering where this will be taking place the interview & the live songs??? Is it in Philly at the World Café, at the WXPN studios, is it over the phone type thing or maybe it has been was recorded already??? I think David Dye does broadcast the show from the World Café but I’m not sure, might just be the live concerts they have.
I'd love to know more info. I mean if it was in Philly and they were allowing the public to attend, I'd be there in a heartbeat but I have a feeling The Cure will not be in Philly!!! But I could be wrong! I’ll have to check out the World Café Web Site a bit and see if I can find any more info
Andy: World Cafe is the name of the show, not an actual place that they will be playing.
ReplyDeleteCK: From what I've heard, they are staying on the west coast until they leave.
ReplyDeleteI sent the World Cafe show an e-mail asking them where & when this took or is taking place.
ReplyDeleteBut I did find out that the concerts for that day at the World Cafe are The Noon Show which is Mary Chapin Carpenter and the one at night which is Dub is a Weapon! So it looks like no Cure performing live unless it's a secret but I'm not counting on it!
Oh thanks craig, I kind of figured that they would be on the West Coast for a while longer. So the show must have been recorded before or they are doing a phone type of interview? It really sucks that it's not happening here. I got myself too excited!!! Why would they bother to come to The City of Brotherly Love!!!! Guess they rather be in the City of Angels! LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd here is a place in Philly called World Cafe & they do broadcast live concerts from there for the World Cafe Show. But you are right in that the World Cafe Restaurant Andy pointed out in CA is not a part of the NPR's World Cafe Show.
And it is true that not all of the World Cafe Sponsored Concerts take place at this location but most are at a venue in Philly or NYC.
so.. webcasted on friday from 2 to 4 pm eastern worldwide incuding interview and a couple songs.. :D im really looking forward to the interview, anyone knows if they are going to interview the hole band or just robert?
ReplyDeleteCarlos I sent a few e-mails to World Cafe on XPN asking about the interview. I've been wondering the same thing as you and where it is taking place.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure it will not be in Philly where the show is broadcasted but I figured I'd ask. If the interview hasn't happened yet at maybe they will let me and I can post any info on here where it might be taking place and so on.
This just came in an email update from World Cafe:
ReplyDelete"12/19 The anticipated new double album from iconic post-punk band, The Cure, is called 4:13 Dream, and they bring their raw engergy to the Cafe."
Not sure where this information came from though....and it looks like he could use a spell checker. :p
and an update cause its not a double album
ReplyDeleteCK- thanks for letting me know i really hope they interview everyone.
