Setlist: Push, The Perfect Boy, The Only One, RS Interview, The End of the World, Just Like Heaven, Boys Don't Cry.
Audio - Full Cure segment (Thanks J.)
Interview - Transcription (Thanks V)
The Cure recorded a World Cafe session on May 10th in Philadelphia, and it will air this afternoon. The easiest way for most of us to hear it will be to listen to WXPN. The show airs from 2-4pm eastern, 1-3pm central, noon-2pm mountain and 11am-1pm pacific. You can also listen to the show on your local NPR station. But be sure to check if/when your station carries the World Cafe show.
If you missed it, you can catch it again at 1-3am eastern, midnight-2am central, 11pm-1am mountain, 10pm-midnight pacific.
Update: Oh well, so much for the rumors of it being recorded in LA this week. This interview and performance was recorded on May 10th, after the Philadelphia 4Tour show, and has already been posted online. (Thanks Kate)
Update 2: Looks like the broadcast is slightly different than what was posted online.

Can someone record it and upload it later? I'll be at work all day today and really hate to miss it.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Barring any unforeseen copyright laws that is! XD
ReplyDeleteA surprise, eh... ?
ReplyDeleteLol and Boris?
ReplyDeleteOh Surprises, Surprises Surprises! I hope it's something really good!!!
ReplyDeleteEarlier in the week I sent World Cafe a few e-mails asking where & when this session took place and who is doing the talking (Robert or everyone). I finally got a response today. However, all they really said was it's a two hour conservation with the Cure and some live cuts. Like I don't know that already World Cafe People!!!
Oh well at least I tried to get more info out of them but I guess they want to keep it a secret.
And I hope someone records it too. I can listen to it at work but I know I won't be able to hear everything with everyone else at work blabbing away & bothering me.
what time is it in the uk when i should try and listen?
ReplyDeleteSurprise? I am definitely listening now!
ReplyDeleteSmooches,
Pussycat
The link is already posted here:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=98474535
that only seems to be 38minutes yet its 2 hours long? huh
ReplyDeleteSounds like this interview was actually recorded in May after the Philly show, from the remarks Robert and the interviewer are making.
ReplyDeleteyeah, the email I received from World Cafe says its an interview from after the Philly show done while sitting in a hockey locker room while Robert drinks Kronenbergs. So...if that is the case then why did they stay on in LA for two more days? Label business? Hmmmm....
ReplyDeleteI though the same thing and he talks again about wrapping things up with The Cure :(
ReplyDeleteI truly hope he has changed his mind and they tour at least one more time. *fingers crossed*
this cant be the broadcast.. as it only lasts 30minutes.. yet its a 2 hour slot?
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard the interview yet. Are you saying he is talking about ending The Cure ...again? ugh.
ReplyDeleteThe only saving grace is he always says he's going to end The Cure but then he misses us SO much he has to come back.
ReplyDeleteIf you have an iPhone, download the wtmd app (towson MD npr). I did and they are advertising The Cure at 2pm!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI just got another e-mail from the World Cafe form someone a little more knowledgeable than the 1st one I got. They said it was done after the Philly Show in the Locker Room at the Spectrum back on May 10th. (Ewwww that place is really gross!) Part of the two hour show is the interview with Robert & the live songs but the rest of the time they are playing music from the bands contemporaries & some David Bowie stuff since he’s one of Robert’s favorite singers.
ReplyDeleteI had a feeling that was when this was recorded back in May since The World Cafe show is recorded in Philly. I was really wishing it was being taped in Philly now, but we never get the lucky out here!
BTW: Thanks for the Link Kate! I listened to it but I will still listen to the show when it airs today in-case something else is announced.
And I’m wondering why this session is being broadcasted now and not back in May? Why wait so long? Oh well it was a good interview with decent questions from David & it was cool to hear some of the songs they played at Philly Show. However, I hope it's not the end like Robert said in the interview but then he always says that sort of thing.
Ah memories, THAT WAS AN AWESOME SHOW!!! Good to be able to hear something from a show that I actually went too!
They note during the program that Robert also mixed the live songs from the Philly concert for the radio show. Maybe that's why it took so long for it to air? ;)
ReplyDeleteWow, not what I was expecting at all! So if that wasn't for NPR, what WAS it for? Or was it all bullshit? Hmm...
ReplyDeleteSorry for getting hopes up about a surprise.
Oh well, I'm gonna listen to the live stream anyways, lol. At least if my parents kick me off the computer, then I can go back and listen to what I missed on the other link, lol. We got released from school early today because of this snowstorm business, so at least I'm home for it!
ReplyDeleteAaron: The show is two hours, not the Cure segment.
ReplyDeleteyay it's started.
ReplyDeleteHmmph, my mom would take umbrage at RS saying that The Cure was a band that you can't "take home to your mum."
ReplyDeleteit's different from the file 38mins long.
ReplyDeletei'm bummed... but PUSH roxxxors!!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL : )
THIS WAS MY SHOW! AWESOME! PUSH SOUNDS AMAZING! I AM SO HAPPY!
ReplyDeleteCraig it truly was for NPR's World Cafe but for some reason they decided to air it now & not back in May. Who knows why???
ReplyDeleteWell they are playing mostly songs from the Philly Show and Robert's interview. And they will play more songs than on the link Kate posted!
PUSH is on now! Wow I hope there is some way to get a recording of all the songs from that show. I was there & I really would love it if I could get it!!!!
I am recording the stream in my studio... hopefully it will sound ok... i missed the first few seconds with David Dye talking... I will edit out the non-relevant parts and try to make it available if anyone is interested.
ReplyDeleteand screw copyright, i'm a member or their station...
Hey J I am interested since I went to that show! And are you the same j from Curefans?
ReplyDeletewoot!
ReplyDelete(if you're so sure about this love,
kiss me harder dear!)
CK: No, there was said to be something that went on Wednesday night into Thursday morning. But it apparently had nothing to do with World Cafe. So the rumor was either bullshit, or the recording was for something else.
ReplyDeletemakes me wish i could have gone to one of the 4tour shows!
ReplyDeleteWeird Craig since I got an e-mail from World Cafe & they told me the interview was done back in May & the live songs are from the Philly show? Like I said before, who knows where or when this was done but it looks like nothing surprising will be announced on this show.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if that was part of the rumor or something else???
so i dont get it, has the interview been aired already? and is that the interview that was supossedly from a fan in philly that was posted months ago on internet??
ReplyDelete"I'm not being dramatic..."
ReplyDeleteHehehe. :)
David Dye just said he talked to Robert after the Philly show & the songs are from back in May too. Oh well they just played The Perfect Boy & The Only One. Now Robert's talking about reforming the group & bringing Porl back.
ReplyDeleteHrumph!!
ReplyDeleteThese damn company computers are blocking me from listening to the NPR deal.
The thanks I get for bringing in homemade Christmas cookies from the Bag 'N Save bakery this morning.
"I like to teach them how to spit."
ReplyDelete: )
CK: Yes, I know this thing being aired is from May. I get that. Nothing unclear about that.
ReplyDeleteI'm talking about something they reportedly were doing this week, that some of us thought was for World Cafe. It wasn't.
Carlos I don't think this particular interview was ever aired before but it was done back in May.
ReplyDeleteAnd the interview with the fan that was done by Pat McKay for a contest he one for Radio 104.5 which is not a part of WXPN. And that interview occurred before the Philly Show. This one is done by David Dye for World Cafe after the Philly show. It's all kind of confusing???
Sorry craig I didn't realize something else was being said about the show. I misunderstood what you were trying to say.
ReplyDeleteThings I have learnt today:
ReplyDeleteRobert Smith wants to be in the sea attaching things to the bottom of Duran Duran's boat.
LOL I love that!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis might be one of the best Robert interviews ever...
ReplyDeleteThe Duran Duran comment was amazing... as was:
"The reason our last album was called the Cure was because everyone thought it was going to be the last one....and it was...for two of them"
Here comes the Goth topic. :P
ReplyDeleteRobert's is just too damn funny!!! It really is a good interview.
ReplyDeleteJust to be completely clear, the World cafe session was recorded on May 10th, 2008. This is the first time it has been aired.
ReplyDeleteWhat I was talking about, was a recording session that apparently happened this week in California. But that had nothing to do with World Cafe. Some of us just thought it did.
RS sounds like he's sniffling a little...could this be the beginning of his illness?
ReplyDeletethanks CK yeah it was confusing but you have now cleared it all up for me thanks:)
ReplyDeletei tried to listen to it but i cant, i dont know why:( anyway i'll just hope for some recording to show up..
So much for those who love to say RS doesn't care about the charts and being #1. : )
ReplyDeleteOkay, who wants to transcribe the interview for us? : )
ReplyDeleteGlad to help ya Carlos! Yes I hope someone is recording this, I'd like to listen to it in a quite place. It's quite had to listen to it now when someone is try to ask me questions about work!
ReplyDeleteAnd it will be re-broadcasted from 1-3 AM on 12/20.
End of the World is on now!
End of the World!!!
ReplyDelete(they sound so good!!!)
I love listening to Robert talk. He is soooo flipping awesome. I get so excited listening to him especially the live songs. I get all...ughh... I don't know how to describe it!
ReplyDeleteI would love to transcribe it...
ReplyDelete...but probably shouldn't offer to.
ReplyDeleteV: Um, I'd like to have it before the end of the year. : P
ReplyDeleteEnd of the World does sound great! I don't want to seem selfish but those 5 days of The Cure just were not enough for me. I hope I get to see them again soon. At least I get to listen to them right now.
ReplyDeleteThanks craig, it all makes sense now.
ReplyDeleteHahahahah!!!
ReplyDelete"I'm turning into Aretha Franklin."
V: Ha!
ReplyDeleteYESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteJLH JLH JLH : ) : ) :) :) : )
This entire concert was so fucking Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI AM SO GLAD I WENT TO THIS SHOW!!! :)
Just Like Heaven!
Awe. Just Like Heaven. I just want to get up in my living room and dance. God I am such a dork.
ReplyDeleteican listen now!:D they sound so good!
ReplyDelete...you guys have to admit... that's the BEST Cure song ever.
ReplyDeleteAt the best show on the 4-Tour too!!!
ReplyDeletePhilly Cure Fans Rule!!!
Well all Cure Fans Rule!!!
I will admit no such thing.
ReplyDeleteBoy's Don't Cry!
ReplyDeletei love how he ends JLH live. Makes the studio version seem off : )
ReplyDeleteMorris: Oh, did they play Same Deep Water As You? Yes, best song ever! : )
ReplyDeleteI try to laugh about it, hiding the tears in my eyes...
ReplyDeleteI feel like i'm in a time warm right now listening to this. I remember everything about this night. so great.
ReplyDeleteNow my 4 year old daughter is dancing like crazy in our living room to Boy's Don't Cry!
ReplyDeleteso its over?
ReplyDeleteeww commercial
ReplyDeletewuu smiths :)
ReplyDeleteWhat??? I want some more Cure!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSmiths! Hang the DJ! Hang The DJ!
ReplyDeleteMike I'm reliving the memories of that night too!!! Great show wasn't it!
ReplyDeleteOh well looks like The Cure part of the show might be over. The Smiths are on now. Panic!
Yeah where is DJ?
ReplyDeleteHa...playing Morrissey during a Cure special....muahahahaha
ReplyDeleteI like The Smiths but I wanted more of Robert interviewing. Maybe some more live songs too.
ReplyDeleteo_0 I wonder what robert would say about them playing The Smiths in a Cure broadcast!
ReplyDeleteCure portion is over.
ReplyDeleteis this some kind of sick joke? The Smiths???? : )
ReplyDeleteBoo that's a bummer it wasn't a full two hours!
ReplyDeletedidnt get to hear the interiew:( did someone record it?
ReplyDeleteThe live stuff sounds great, I like the mix better on the live stuff than the new album mix, Robert would shit if he heard the segue into the Smiths
ReplyDeleteI think Robert would be laughing at them.
ReplyDeleteThe radio station guy that is.
ReplyDeleteBowie is on now---Panic in Detroit. Well at least Robert Love Bowie!
ReplyDeleteCure_kittY:Hey J I am interested since I went to that show! And are you the same j from Curefans?
ReplyDeleteI was at the show, too. I just need to figure out how to host the files...
No, I'm not the same J from Curefans... I used to be a regional "Club America" person... back when that existed. But otherwise I just lurk on COF, and post once and a while.
But you knew it wasn't Cure for two hours!
ReplyDeleteSmiths rule!
Well The Cure part might be over but in Philly there really isn't anything better to listen to than WXPN so I'll just leave it on for now.
ReplyDeleteCarlos: It's already on their website.
ReplyDeleteI know I missed the first portion of the interview. If anyone did record it that would freakin' awesome. That way I can listen to it over and over!
ReplyDeleteim recording but in the beggining to only one , if someone have the 3 first seconds , please email me : explodingcure@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteI have the whole thing recorded.
ReplyDeleteGuys, the interview is already online! Check the front page of COF.
ReplyDeleteAwesome then...
ReplyDeleteecho!
ReplyDeleteKilling Moon from Echo!
ReplyDeleteAnd the Bunnymen. : )
ReplyDeleteJ, you were a Club America regional leader? So was I, for Western NY! What was your region?
ReplyDeleteOh, and V, to what illness of Robert's were you referring?
Killing Moon... gets me every time.
ReplyDeleteI find it funny that almost all the bands I like, or stumble upon, I later learn that Robert likes them too, lol.
ReplyDeleteOne of the greatest songs of all time. Gets me too, Morris.
ReplyDeleteShawn, I was the Harrisburg/York area... I think I was the only member too :)
ReplyDeleteHey j why not try megaupload or rapidshare file or something like that. I'll send you the links if you need them. They are easy to upload files on there.
ReplyDeleteAnd since you're from New Cumberland, PA (from your profile) I thought you were j from Curefans but I think he lives in the Limerick Area and that not near to where you live. But it's cool to meet another PA Cure Fan on here!
Shawn: Not to speak for V, but I'm pretty sure she's talking about the voice problems RS had during the 4Tour.
ReplyDeleteaww cheesy in-between shows music. I think it's really over.
ReplyDeleteYes it's over, they are playing way to funky music now. :(
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if there was any RS spotting in the Cali area after all the gigs or did the boys go back to Jolly ol England already.
ReplyDeleteI'll get on the rapidshare or megupload in a bit, i have to finish encoding all of the segments...
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot j, I appreciate it since I'd love to had a copy of this interview and the songs from that show!
ReplyDeleteOn a separate note, while i'm sitting in my studio... do you think robert will ever be cool and let fans remix a song? ala NIN or even badly drawn boy (that was back in 2000 that he did that.)
ReplyDeleteWould be cool if he did but I just don't see him doing it. But then you never know he might.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever made your own mix of Cure songs J? Since you Audio Engineer, what have you worked on in the past & are you in a band? Hope you don't mind me asking, I'm just curious to know.
Thanks for recording it J.
ReplyDeleteThe live stuff sounds great, I like the mix better on the live stuff than the new album mix, Robert would shit if he heard the segue into the Smiths
ReplyDeleteI'm flattered to you asked!
ReplyDeleteI haven't done my own mixes, but I have copied some 12" mixes that don't seem like they'll see the light of day on CD... Just One Kiss extended, The Close to Me extended remix from Quadapus for example...
Also, I've wanted to get my hands on an instrumental version of "Hey Ya" by outkast, and mix it with "close to me"... but I've never really tried my hand at that stuff...
I'm in a band called Red Sea Radio.. in fact, Lol was kind enough to remix our song "I'm Still Breathing", which is on our myspace page (myspace.com/redsearadio)... we don't play out much because we're in central PA (the cultural taint of the world), but we're looking to do the World Cafe open mic sometime...
You are welcome craig!
J, unlike you, I wasn't the only member in my area. In fact, I met a person who would later become my second girlfriend while contacting people in my region. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, and I tried to have a Club America gathering, but the DJ cut off my two hour playlist after one hour, due basically to the general apathy of the crowd, who kept requesting non-Cure stuff. There was so little interest that no one even stole the stuff that I'd brought for a Cure item raffle after I'd left it unattended. One one person signed up for the raffle, and only out of sympathy. I later found the clipboard that I'd set out for people to write down their names and e-mail addresses filled with several random, somewhat uninteresting comments, none of them relating to The Cure. Consequently, I spent most of the night drinking, doing a very poor job of consoling myself about the unmitigated disaster with which I'd been met.
That, by the way, was my only attempt at a Club America gathering, as I figured that I'd probably get the same result if I tried again. If you're interested, I still have several copies of the planned setlist, as well as a one hour pre-gathering setlist that didn't get played at all. I also have laminated badges that I'd made up, but I'm keeping most of those.
Oh, and Craig, Robert sounded fine to me in Toronto, and that was after the Philadelphia show. Remember, too, that during the KC show, he jokingly blamed Canada for his illness. :P
Shawn: I had a Bloodflowers listening party. I got the promo stuff in the mail just in time, but the CD wasn't in it, so a friend stole it from the internet. A good number of my friends came, and one girl dragged her friends from D.C. to attend, but they got lost, and there was an AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL snow storm that day! The friends from DC were grumpy to say the least....
ReplyDeleteNow, reading your latest post, J, I, too, have those 12" extended mixes, both on vinyl and on my computer. I also have the 12" extended mixes for WCIBY, A Japanese Dream, and Hey You!!! on vinyl and my computer, as well as other extended mixes on my computer, such as the one for Primary.
ReplyDeleteIs the aforementioned 30th Anniversary DVD (Blu-ray?!) project still in the works? I seem to remember Tim saying nothing has happened, and to quit asking him about it! LOL
ReplyDelete(wow, the live songs on that broadcast were excellent!)
Hey j that's cool you're in a band and I know the area where you live and you do have it right. Central PA is kind of boring but then I live in King of Prussia which isn't any better, just more traffic.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if your band ever comes to play in the Philly area, I'll come out see you all play. I'll checkout your myspace page when I get home form work too.
I got a burned copy of Bloodflowers from Club America's president, Heather Pray. I gave that to the Friday night DJ at my favorite club to play, and he put on Out of This World, and later The Loudest Sound. It brought tears to my eyes to see the dance floor flooded with people during those songs. Unfortunately, it took a couple of weeks to get the cd-r back, as I'd unfortunately gotten extremely drunk that night, and that particular DJ was on vacation the Friday after that.
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, despite the overwhelmingly positive response to the songs, they were never played again before the club closed a few years ago.
cure_kitty:
ReplyDeletenow that WXPN has an offical frequency for York the music scene is starting to come alive. We're trying to appeal to the Yrock crowd, but XPN mostly pays attention to the folk and jam band scene in central PA.
shawn:
i'm disappointed that the last album got so much attention and that 4:13 Dream just kind of vanished.
in my opinion it's a return to form for the band... they're taking risks again, which they hadn't for a while. i only listened to "The Cure" once... with the exception of "Before Three" i thought it was horrible.
i've listened to 4:13 Dream more than I have any other Cure album in a LONG LONG time.
It makes me sad that this album is under the radar... it's a trippy album if you listen to it loud!
http://rapidshare.com/files/174965424/The_Cure_Live_at_the_World_Cafe.zip
ReplyDeleteabout a 60 meg zip file...
I hope I did this properly...
Cool j, philly was kind of dead for a while too when Y-100 changed from alternative to hip hop a few years back. But then WXPN started Y-Rocks on-line & now there is Radio 104.5 that plays alternative.
ReplyDeleteSo it's a bit better now but still the Philly area has a big Rap/Hip Hop following. There places to hear alternative music but not as much as in other cities but I'm sure more then the Harrisburg Area. Still I hope having WXPN in York, PA helps out the local music scene. I had time to listen to you music on myspace & I like it. I'll listen some more tonight.
And thanks for the link! I'll give it a go tonight too. Can't download big files at work.
Thank you so much, J! Getting it now.
ReplyDeleteIt's under the radar because Geffen/Universal did a horrible job promoting it, and the band, aside from the Rome show, didn't do any promo stuff until the album had begun to drop off the charts around the world.
ReplyDeleteWhile I think that the current album is significantly better than the self-titled album, I don't share your opinion about the latter. I think that the main flaw of the album is that it was overproduced. It probably would have been a good album otherwise. Still, there are definitely a few gems on there, most notably Lost, Labyrinth, and Going Nowhere.
With that said, I think that it's a disgrace that the self-titled album has had better sales than 4:13 Dream.
Shawn w - I agree.... I don't know if staggering the singles was a good idea. Nowadays most people have very short attention spans....
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for posting this, J.
ReplyDeleteLooks like I missed out on some fun chatting - but it was a bit too hard getting out of bed at 4am to listen online (especially after a work function yesterday).
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting up the links, I will get the chance to have a listen later.
i was wanting to know how do i get to down load this it wont let me. do i need a log in name?
ReplyDeleteStammerhammer - click on Free User, then wait for the time to pass (usually about 50second) then click the download button.
ReplyDeleteSimple really. especially if I can do it :-)
I'm a litttle late for this, but Chaka Kahn, LOL. I love it.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, Awesome, Awesom interview...very revealing...npr is the best...its very real...robert is such a great guy...and yes, the cure are not goth...sorry to those who think so
ReplyDelete
