Dream Thirteen at HMV Japan

HMV Japan have just listed Dream Thirteen for pre-ordering. Get the regular edition or the limited edition SHM-CD version. Here's some more info:

"Today HMV Japan has just posted some information regarding The Cure's new album "Dream Thirteen" Japanese Edition on the top page of their website. It says it will be released on September 13 with a possibility of a bonus track. Along with the regular version (2,500 yen), the limited deluxe version in the SHM-CD format (2,800 yen) will be available only for the first batch. It sounds very exciting, but the problem is Universal Japan hasn't released any official announcement yet. So, I rather stay calm until I get a concrete evidence/ an official announcement from either the band or the record company."
(Thanks Junko)

Update: Listed for pre-sale at HMV UK too, but without a title.

  1. I wish I liked the name Dream 13 better. :-( Hopefully it will grow on me.

Also, I hope the bonus track is not UTS. :-0

  2. Japanese releases almost always have a bonus track.
Don't worry, this isn't a repeat of the multiple track listings like the last album.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Craig, I sincerely hope not. I know that the JAPANESE always get an extra track and they deserve it.

I too am fearful of a repeat of the multi-version fiasco, though; how are you sure it won't happen again??

They need ONE definitive album with UTS and ABINK and all the others. PERIOD!

Let ME work for the record company; I'll set 'em straight!

  4. Craig, thanks for posting this. It's so fast!
Oh, please don't get alarmed by this bonus track thing, everybody. Since there's no official announcement, it's not comfirmed yet.

  5. A Japanese bonus track isn't very surprising - they had It Used To Be Me on Wild Mood Swings and Coming Up on Bloodflowers, then there was the multiple tracklistings on the self-titled album.
But it's not only The Cure that has this happen. Many artists have bonus tracks on their Japanese/Australian releases. It's almost an industry standard these days.

  6. Bummer - I was hoping that the album title was a bad dream.

Even Thirteenth Dream would be better

    ReplyDelete
  7. maybe since its the upbeat stuff now...its dream 13, and the darker stuff alter...will be nightmare 13 or somethin equally as dumb and effective.

who knows? i dont, you dont, does robert?

snr. smith has never been a god with titles, just lyrics and music and everything else.

    ReplyDelete
  8. aussitiger - I didn't know having a bonus tracks on the Japanese/ Australian releases is an standards nowadays. Do you know why? Is it because our CDs are so pricy compared to imports from US/UK so that record companies in Japan need to add a special gift to promote their sales?

eddie - I love the idea of the title "Nightmare 13". It sounds better that Dream 13, IMO. :-D

    ReplyDelete
  9. junko, that's exactly the reason.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Aha! Thank you, shawn-w. Now I understand their marketing strategy.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I feel like this may be another period of time wherein Robert wears a jersey. I just feel it. A jersery with the number 13 on it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. YAR! Dream Thirteen is somewhat cringe inducing... I wanted Lino Distressed myself. ^_^
But how reliable are they? Dammit, they need to update that old picture now!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I just want to album to get here!

Craig - Nice new pic on the front page!

  14. I still think The Cure should use their old LP working title "One Million Virgins" for an album name. I've always liked the sound of it. Now's as good a time as any, what with the boys in their late 40's and all.
Dream Thirteen? I guess it's better than "The Cure". Now THAT ticked me off. Can't wait to wash 2004's entry from my brain.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I love it!

As they say when you get old and have another birthday:

"beats the hell out of the alternative!"

    ReplyDelete
  16. Great. More bonus track crap. I hope it's a piece of garbage like "Coming Up" and not another "Going Nowhere" because I don't feel like shelling out $50 again!

    ReplyDelete
  17. This bonus track crap didn't start happening really until the new millennium. Can't we all live like it's the '80s? I just don't think it's fair to fans. They should at least make that track available on a CD single in the rest of the world. I know, the bonus track should be NY Trip!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Typical...Japanese always get bonus tracks! But yeah, the CDs there are so pricy, they deserve it. And I might consider ordering the Japanese version if the bonus happens to be something I really want...

Personally I have no problem with the title Dream Thirteen, unless they don't include UTS, BRDB or ABINK. Call it what they want as long as we have all the good songs!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Why don't Japanese manufacturers lower their prices instead of the rest of us having to pay?! I'm sure illegal downloading is an even bigger problem in Japan if prices are as high as people say. CDs should not be that expensive. I'm sure their weird anime, rape-fantasy porn isn't! (I knew a lot of East Asians who knew about Japanese pop culture)

I mean, the Japanese make great cars. I don't think my family has owned an American car since the mid-'80s, but their economy can't get it together on CDs?!

    ReplyDelete
  20. muldfeld - sometimes the bonus track in the Japanese edition could be a b-side. I'm hoping it's going to be a b-side so that I can save the extra money.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anyway, we should all calm down, as this information isn't official yet. :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. everybody let out a big WAAAAHH!

    ReplyDelete
  23. So, if there is a bonus track for the Japanese release only, just save up and buy the import. Besides, like everyone said, it's not Official yet.

And the name 'Dream 13' is not growing on me.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The bonus track on the Japanese release is going to be a cover of Wake me up before you go-go.
This is insider information, folks. Start reserving your copies now.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ha! I meant to type "**Is** growing on me" Maybe my fingers are trying to tell me something?! What the hell...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wake me up before you go go? I don't believe you.

    ReplyDelete
  27. with andrew ridgeley on keys?

    ReplyDelete
  28. With Boy George and Porl on lead guitars.

Oh wait, and Gene Simmons on backup vocals.

    ReplyDelete
  29. there aren't that many virgins ANYWHERE!

as for japanese and australian cds, thats all fine and well for them but when i have to buy 6 versions of their very expensive cd just to get all the songs? well i get testy. especially in this heat! oh i should feel...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Why Anah? I got it from a pretty decent source. Just imagine Bob singing it, doesn't it make you shiver?

LOL, Shiver...? I just can't imagine it. It comes out sounding like WCIBY in my head. Unless they slowed down the tempo, stripped the production ala' Pornography style, I don't think it would work!

It's like the time I wanted to submit a Beastie Boys song for them to cover during that Australian contest!

  32. "Dream Thirteen" is a dreadful title. I remember when I was younger I would try to come up with great titles for my cassete mixes (e.g., "Twilight Mix"). Dream Thirteen sounds like something a teenager would make up in an attempt to sound hip. Awful.

    ReplyDelete
  33. What is a SHM-CD? Maybe I should know this, but I guess I am behind the times. I hope Robert is smart this time with the track listing. I just wonder if UTS, ABINK, and BRDB will end up on the final cut. These songs do not fit the upbeat feel like Freakshow or The Only One, so I wonder if Robert will ditch them.

    ReplyDelete
  34. hrmmm...interesting....i wonder what the track list is

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think we'll definitely get UTS and BRDB, but I'm not totally positive on ABINK... but hopeful.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Bands usually release albums in other territories with a selection of Bsides that would otherwise not be heard there, for lack of single release. So I very much doubt the Japanese or anyone else are going to get anything that we won't already have heard or that will eventually surface.
I'm surprised we have no solid information about the album yet, or seen the sleeve art or anything. It usually happens a lot faster than this, but I do sense something is iminent, anyhow.
.. I'm hoping that none of the previously-released singles are on the album, and that we get a good nine songs we just don't know about.
But all shall remain to be seen!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm not even sure what the point of giving a title to the albums at this point anymore is... Just call it '13', and the next one '14' and so on, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  38. i hope it's the tracklist from that dream i mentioned last week or whenever. that would fucking rule.

  39. joe - Here's the description of SHM-CD: The high quality SHM-CD (Super High Material CD) format features enhanced audio quality through the use of a special polycarbonate plastic. Using a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan discovered through the joint companies' research into LCD display manufacturing, SHM-CDs feature improved transparency on the data side of the disc, allowing for more accurate reading of CD data by the CD player laser head. SHM-CD format CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players.

  40. As i told before, i don´t like much Dream Thirteen, sounds plain and i don´t catch the idea of the title.

Usually Cure got great titles for the albums, but "Dream" and "13" is nothing new, we had the Dream tour, the "Thirteenth" and the "Dream" song,Cure lyrics lines are full of it..."i lay me down to Dream, sleeping children in their blue soft rooms
still Dream, sometimes i Dream charlotte sometimes, you´re Dreaming face and Dreaming smile, never Dream of you again, pleasure fills up my Dreams... and many many more, to the point that The Cure, Robert & Co.,their music and everything is just like a DREAM for us.

But until we have an official announcement, i hope the definitive title changes.

    I like 4:13 instead.

Looks more mysterious & intriguing to me.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The title reminds me of that lame US attempt to unfairly defeat every other country at basketball in the 1996 Olympics with the "Dream Team".

Craig, I just had a dream about how BSG will end. It sucked! Adm. Adama gets shot by a 6, and we expect him to die. The next scene, a cast member opens a shuttle door and Adama is alive, but ends up with a big ugly metallic cast on his arm and neck he has to keep for the rest of his life. The cast member tells him the 6 has been killed and Adama confesses to having killed her with a murderous stare in his eyes. And they find earth and play football in a field. It was terrible!

  42. For those worrying about a Japanese bonus track fiasco, the bonus tracks are 99% non exclusive to that release. Frequently the song is available on the Japanese album before it is available elsewhere, but invariably it turns out to be a b-side down the road.

Off topic- Craig please put the Everett picture (or something more recent) back up on COF. It was bad enough when I was a teenager and didn't think too much about the bands appearance. But now that I'm 38, it kills me that they look like a bunch of guys who got caught in a rainstorm on halloween.

  43. Namepa: Sorry, but that's the official promo picture for 08. : )

    ReplyDelete
  44. i am pretty pretty convinced that the opening song of Dream Thirteen will be UTS and the closing song of the album wil be BRDB. im like.. 90% sure of that

    ReplyDelete
  45. Muld: I hate to tell you this, but my spies at BSG say that's EXACTLY how it ends. Team BSG beats Team CYLON 27-17. Starbuck is named the MVP of the game. : )

    ReplyDelete
  46. Keep that picture up, Craig. It's nice. Until a new and better one comes along.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I like "Dream 13," it sounds very Curesy to me, lol... They could call it "Scatological Nothing" and I would still listen to it, so meh... I can't wait to see what the track list is and how it sounds as a whole.

And Craig... you forgot to mention that she managed to be named MVP even though she spent the whole game pissing everyone on both teams off by calling her opponents "fracking toasters." She's just that good. Heh.

    ReplyDelete
  48. So they're officially calling it Dream Thirteen now? Blah.

Actually I'm more upset about this bonus track business.

And those Japanese must be filthy rich over there. 2,500 yen for a CD?? Yikes!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Underneath The Stars is honestly the only song I like so far. Always a big Cure supporter but am a bit let down so far. Crossing fingers.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oh damn, you're right Maree. Sorry I forgot about that. : )

    I love Starbuck.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Starbuck is fracking awesome. :^D

  52. muldfeld, what's the deal with BSG? i watch every friday. is there a season 4 mid-season break going on?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Junko - Thanks for the SHM explanation.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Monkey: Yes, we are at the mid-season break. The final episodes start next Feb.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm holding my breath for a different title. I'd take 'Thirteen' over Dream Thirteen.

Dream Thirteen is still better than 4:13, though. That was atrocious. Does get me glancing at the clock and feeling funny at that minute, though. Which I guess is more than I can say for Disintegration....

    ReplyDelete
  56. ah, i was wondering why it ended so abruptly after they (CENSORED). thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Monkey: Did you like the last episode? I finally caught up last week, and loved it. Just an awesome buildup all show long, and then that ending! And the way they shot the end was brilliant, I thought.

Don't want to say too much in case others haven't seen it yet.

    ReplyDelete
  58. yes craig, LOVED it. so bleak and exciting. but i sure wasn't expecting a break after that!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Craig: That may be the official promo...but who says you gotta use it? The everett photo was great and was certainly not official. How about a lights shot from a UTS perfomance instead?

    ReplyDelete
  60. I prefer 4:13 as a title to Dream 13. Had more symbolism and mystique, and kind of picks up from 10:15...

But then, I have a thing for time and clocks. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  61. dream 13?? come on, its the 13th album.. and IMO, this is their worst title. it sounds like teenybopper boy band. at least the songs are good, what weve heard of it.

about those SHM-cds, im really curious as to how better in quality they are. i might get a japanese copy after all

    ReplyDelete
  62. it's interesting, though... as bad as Dream 13 is as a title (and boyband-ish, I agree), think about titles like Wish or KMKMKM. They are kinda goofy too, and yet took on new dimensions once we heard the albums in full. So perhaps Dream 13 will take on a new "aura" when we hear the album... or perhaps it will go down in Cure history as the worst title. I actually prefer The Cure as a title. :-/

    ReplyDelete
  63. i wish COF had a tracking device so we could go through all the threads so far in its history, pertaining solely to the new album, to find out how many people have repeated themselves X amount of times regarding the title.

    ReplyDelete
  64. It's a great promo shot, Namepa, you are probably on your own about wanting it gone, PWNed simultaneously by implied democracy and the whims of Craig. ;^P

    ReplyDelete
  65. Oh, I actually forgot about that dream. Thank goodness for this blog!

From what I know, we're not sure when the rest of the season will air, but I guess Feb 2009's a decent bet. Maybe toward the end of the major network season, though, to avoid too much competition. I have no idea how these ratings things work. Is it better to get higher ratings when there are few new shows on, ie the summer, or to get killed when crappy shows like Greys Anatomy, Heroes, CSI, and whatever that bastard JJ Abrams brings on air (that sucks all the media attention away) beat it in the ratings? Hmm.

I just wish those idiots at Sci Fi had granted more episodes so things weren't so damn rushed. I'd better get my miniseries about Baltar's leadership during New Caprica before the cylons show up!

Still haven't seen the mid season finale yet!

    ReplyDelete
  66. To keep you BSGers awaiting more greatness, here's easily the best Star Trek story. It's from DS9, headed by Ira Steven Behr (another political sci fi writer) and Ron Moore helped with it. It's written by Michael Taylor who did the awesome "Unfinished Business" (boxing episode) and "Takin a Break" (Baltar interrogation episode). It's much more dramatic and notice the moral ambiguity and more realistic depiction of leaders, instead of Star Trek's usual moral simplicity. This is why Ira Steven Behr should get control of making a new Star Trek movie and not that fracking superficial, sensationalistic hack JJ Abrams.

    G'night, folks.

  67. I never could get into Battlestar Galactica or any of those Star Trek shows.

Except for Voyager. I grew to love that show. I used to live with somebody who got me hooked on that show. Loved Captain Janeway, Mr. Paris and "The Doctor". But my all-time favorite was B'Elanna Torres. She was awesome. She was bad-ass but she was vulnerable. I loved her!

    ReplyDelete
  68. No offense, Dumb anguish, but BSG and DS9 were written as a reaction to the formula of Voyager, which often tried to rip off the nostalgia of traditional Star Trek and Next Gen with a bit more action. They're so, so much better and more realistic and just more fun. DS9's actually the first Star Trek to be funny. So, if you like Voyager, you might much prefer DS9 (at least from Season 3 onward) and the new Battlestar Galactica.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Also, if you like Torres, you'll love Kira Nerys on DS9.

  72. Hmmm it is a bit more expansive to get a CD in Japan than it would be in the US. 2,500 yen is about $24.00 USD. Most likely is will only cost $15.00 or less in the states. If the Japanese version has a new bonus track, I'll get that but I'm hoping it's nothing new, maybe a b-side from the singles. Who knows at this point but I'm waiting patiently till Sept to find out.

Dream 13 is OK but not the most original album title. But what is important is that we get an album that is fabulous and that's all that should matter.
