Down Under lyrics

After banging my head against the wall in frustration for over an hour, here's what I have for a first draft. There's no question that most of this is wrong. Robert, please forgive me for butchering your lyrics like this, but you should speak more clearly. ; )
Update: Thanks to V for helping me out! Maybe we're a bit closer now.

Down Under - 3:04

Around the sea-green pool we spin
Mermaids sing songs to pull us in
Trust me we're here, she slides up slow
To fallllllll down under

Her burning eyes, the only clue to
Who plays, what plays, when plays
You just blew my cue to drown (his chills? these tears?)
All in wonder

A lucky star, I smiled at her twice
Helpless (bids? fizz?)
And eyes as black with ice
Disguise the stroke, entice them out
To quote a number
(Breathe? Leave? Heave?) in and breathe in
As long as you choose
Remember not all games are won
By the last one to lose

Turning tell him, here we break this
The trick is how to fake the first mistake
To rip him, take the easy choice
Too close to care how
Whispered songs and changing stride
Day to night, and every wrong is right
I dry your eye, bite my lip
We're almost there now
(Breathe? Leave? Heave?) in and breathe in
As long as you choose
Remember not all games are won

  2. Well I love the music, but the lyrics are not what I was expecting. Of course I don't really have a clue about what Robert is saying, hard to really judge it.
It's a very nice song, and I like it, but for me, NYT and AKOS are better.

  3. Thanks. That's give us somewhat an idea while we endure the wait... and any new thoughts on the studio version of SWID? Too weird, not rocking enough?
    I like Cure weirdness myself...

  4. The Mix 13 of Sleep is pretty different to the live version. Missing the urgency and kick, at least to me. But after being slightly disappointed, I really like it now.

Yeah, it has a touch of weirdness in it. Bit of a "ghostly" feel. It's a bit "funkier" too.

  5. Happy so far with what I'm hearing then. I'm glad some of the weirdness came back. Not that it ever left altogether, but this time it sounds more fun, more inspired, less forced. Reminds me a lot of when Rob was alone with The Top, and also The Glove.
But with more maturity and experienced players at his side.
Well it's late I'll stop blabbing.

  6. All I can say is I can't wait! I loved SWID live so its disappointing to hear that you are saying it lacks 'the kick' on the single. Maybe the wirdness will make-up for it. We'll see on the 13th.

  8. SWID is very strange. Reminds me kinda Wendy Time now. The Live Version of the Play Out Video that was known before was much better than the final version on Wish. With SWID it's the same. The Live Version is miles better than this Mix 13 but at least it's very playful. There is a sitar in it! :D

i like it. sure, the live version was edgier, but the studio version is growing on me fast... at least what i've heard of it.

need to hear that new clip of DU now...

  12. So wait a second... I've been reading these posts for months and I'm JUST NOW figuring out that there will be different versions of these singles on the album?!?!? Is that what I'm hearing?!?!

  13. All Robert had to do was include the lyrics, as he did for "The End of the World" single. Seriously, why is that so hard to do? It doesn't take more than one more CD insert sheet of space, but it means so much to the fans.

  14. Zach you are hearing right. Though I don't think that they will be much different in the end. My guessing is: about 15 to 30sec of music added back, plus the cursing, of course.

  16. Sweet cattle crossing roads!!! That is great news! I just heard these songs and I'm kind of agreeing with what's been said so far on SWID. I LOVE, LOVE Down Under though!!! Kind of Wishy-Head on the Doorsy in my opinion.

  17. Why doesn't Robert ever write songs about unicorns? :(

    ReplyDelete
  18. I can see it now..."Yeah and all I want, is to hold you like a unicorn"
    : P

  19. Craig: Ha ha. ;)

"Songs about unicorns, murmured in dreams..."

    ReplyDelete
  20. "Riding the same white unicorn as you is hard" : )

  21. Not like that V! You and your deranged fantasies... : )

  22. Yeah, I'm soooo suuuuuure you didn't mean it like that! ;)

And deranged fantasies? Ha, as if I have any of those!

  23. They'll put the lyrics in the album - right?

  24. Not for Down Under. According to Robert, it won't be on the album.

But the lyrics should be up at the official site in a day or two.
