i guess this goes back to the old days vs internet. its fun seeing and hearing bits of the songs before theyre even released officialy, but i truly wish that i had gotten to experience what you guys did when you were my age - the surprise that came with the anticipation of new material. you didnt see what was coming until it got out.
the info is coming out faster than ever, but it leaves less to the imagination. shouldnt complain so much though, i have to have something to satisfy the cure fix!
dj---I remember the days pre-internet where sometimes you wouldn't know something was released till days/weeks later after it actually was!
So in some ways I like it better now because I know the exact date of when something will be out but I do agree hearing about it weeks before can take some of the thrill away.
i remember walking into a wherehouse (lol) and seeing the single for never enough and going 'wow!' and buying it. nice surprise. first cd i ever bought. had no clue it was out. those kinds of surprises are pretty much no more...kind of sad.
i havent lisnted to All I Want off of KMKMKM in a VERY long time. i just did a few minutes ago on youtube - when i heard it start, i was like - this cant be right.. THIS IS THE FORD COMMERCIAL MUSIC!! WTF??!! im serious, ive been hearing this on a car commericial the whole time and never realized it was the cure! this is worse than Pictures of You on HP's commericial, or Friday Im in Love on that diamond one.
monkey - thats sad. cool name though. downloads are killing record stores. places like barnes and noble, circuit city, best buy - they dont specialize in selling music, but thats where the masses go. sometimes you dont have a choice, because there isnt a record store near you - and its not like anyone is going to build one. *sigh*
agreed, dj. i say again (i always do) that i'm happy amoeba is right up the street from me. i'll never stop cruising the aisles until 1) amoeba closes as well or 2) the global economy collapses, sending us screaming into the streets.
alright....somebody leak this already. i can't be waiting another month. at least tell us the name of the b-side!!!!
monkeybutt, someone on curefans posted a supposed tracklisting but it was just a laundry list of all the purported songs we'd heard named before. im pretty damn certain theyve made at least a FEW changes since like, 2 years ago.
Seriously though- what a great time for you all to be fans early on in your lives! I remeber hearign them when I was 11 when Staring At The Sea came out. noone needs to do the math- ahhh, magical times..
believer - im in california, so US. =) been a fan since i was 5 - saw friday im in love on tv and fell in love. im still upset i didnt have the chance to see them on wish tour, but i had to be born towards the end of it. *rolls eyes*
sofia - curefans? i didnt see it on there, but somebody posted on MFC
im still slowly recovering from All I Want used in a ford commercial. commercials ruin good music! now everytime i hear that song i can only picture trucks.
ah! of course that's the single! I mean, that's what Wikipedia was saying last week, anyway...
so two questions then:
1.) Will the studio version have more imaginative instrumentation? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think live it's just been rhythm guitar, bass, and drums. Some scorching bass VI solos are most assuredly in order. Or perhaps cowbell. Or oh! I know! This may sound so totally weird and out there you can't imagine it, but how about wah-wah'd guitar!
2.) Will Robert hit the high notes in the studio version? ooh girl!
heh but seriously I'm excited about anything they have to offer. yay!
My first new single was The 13th, though I'd been a fan for over two years at that point. I had a pretty good idea of when it was going to come out, as I was following the release dates of the singles from WMS fairly closely, even in 1996. They couldn't have sold well, because I saw Mint Car singles in Media Play several years after the release!
This: "Catering to an extremely dedicated and ravenous fanbase"
cracked me up.
I am very happy this will be the next single, released on my son's birthday and Robert and Mary's wedding anniversary.
David: I thought Sleep When I'm Dead could have used more cowbell but The Perfect Boy I would prefer to be sans cowbell, a first in Cure music! *snicker*
yeah i remember in 1996 before there was really a huge internet thing with music (leaks, inside info, etc) knowing the EXACT DATE that the 13th single came out and the date that WMS came out (may 7, i still remember!). that was a huge year for me. i had been into the cure for about 3.5 years at that point, but it was my first NEW cure album as a fan. and i still love that album, every goddamn song (and its b-sides, natch). naysayers, be gone! :)
My 1st Cure Single was Boy's Don't Cry but I didn't even hear it till 1982---three years after it was released in the UK! See having the internet now helps!!! LOL!!!
did nt any of you read music papers "back then"? i dont remember there being any problem knowing when the next cure record was out ... especially as they were getting alot more press coverage in "the olden times", than they ever do nowadays- at least in the uk
I also miss the old days in a way -the anticipation of something being released and not really knowing what it would turn out to be until it actually came out. When "Wish" was released in April 1992, I was a senior in college. I went to a small state school in MA. There was a midnight release at Newbury Comics as the next day was Tuesday. I remember that Monday was Marathon Monday - Boston Marathon. Some of my college buddies had a house right at the 5 mile marker on the marathon route so the keg party and beers started flowing that Monday at about 10am! I somehow made it through the whole day and probably some 20 beers later, convinced another friend that if I somehow got him back to campus, could I borrow his car to drive to Newbury Comics so I could by the album. Well, I cerrtainly am not condoning alcohol and driving but when you're 21 and a new Cure album is coming out, a fan will tend to do stupid things. Anyway, I made it to Newbury Comics at midnight and bought the album and I actually think I still have the receipt somewhere! Anyway, sorry for the long winded note. But I do miss that sort of thing....
deadboy---If you lived in the US back in the 80's, news of release dates for singles from any bands in the UK were sometimes not known till days/weeks later. The US music magazines did not always publish when things were officially released, nor did radio stations play the songs when they came out. And I remember it was months before the singles were released in the US and even imports were not in the stores will two three weeks after they were released in the UK. Well at least that's what I've experienced as a teenager back then.
dj- i agree, ha. i've been a fan since i was 11. my dad liked them a lot and i went through his CDs one day. he has WMS, KMKMKM, and Disintegration. LOVED them all. after that, i've never stopped listening. : )

i hear you. my first album was WMS. i loved boys dont cry, just like heaven, etc.. but as soon as i heard mint car on kroq in its premier, i fell in love. when out and bought the album.
i too remeber those old days. i loved going to tower records on sunset. too bad their all gone. THANK YOU AMOEBA!!!!
i remember when the first album came out in my youth. back then, we called them "78s" but they were as big around as a regular record nowadays. this was well before 8 track tapes too, and your dvds weren't even invented yet, so don't get smart, sonny.
now, where was i? oh, right...back in those days, you had to go up the river aways to get to the canoes that would take you over the mountains to the general store, where we would wait day in and out for new releases by tommy dorsey, etta james, you name it. back then, my dad never really let me listen to the records on the family phonograph, so i had to sneak out to the barn with my little brother timmy and play them in mabel's pen. mabel was our prize horse. she was a beaut! won all-county in ought-six, she did.
now, i got sidetrack. oh yes! the horses that year were beautiful, dark cherry colored like cordwood, hard and tough like iron. you could put your spurs into the flank and they'd just GO! out into the fields, over the green, green grass and under that deep blue sky! i think that was when i learned to love fishing. i was always an adventurous lad. my dad tried to keep me from getting into adventures, but i'd read the stories in boy's life, and gee whiz, i was ready! pirate treasure, hidden gold, anything you can imagine. i was ready to find it. and find it i did.
that all leads me to the real story here, which is how i got my little brother and myself into the biggest trouble sewart county ever heard of! you couldn't believe it! back then, we had to wear overalls or we'd get beaten with sticks. only the adults called them 'straps.' 'go on back behind the shed and get a strap for me to use on ya, boy' my father would say.
(BELIEVER) thats cool that your dad got you listening to the cure. my 7 yr old, many of you will be happy to hear, is in love with them. i remember as a 2 yr old, she would be singing songs in her sleep!!
now, shes seen them in concert 4 times and when they were inducted at the rock walk.
ITS FUNNY WHEN THE BAND PLAYS ALL THOSE NON COMMERCIAL SONGS AND EVERYBODY IS SITTING DOWN, SHE STILL UP AND SINGING EVERY WORD.
deadboy---That wasn't the way for your typical Top 40 stuff like Michael Jackson & Madonna! In the 80's their stuff was in you face 24/7. Too bad plenty of bands from the UK did not get the same attention especially from where I'm from. Maybe in NYC & LA but not in Philly.

Yes, Monkey, our resident infinigenarian... don't forget to put your dentures back in, no telling where they might end up with all the coming and going in here.
What was the first thing you ever heard on those new-fangled compact disc thingamajigs? :^D
hey but wot about ...." a boy i never knew"???????????????????????????????????????? its maybe with underneath the starts tjhe best cure songs in years.... and they arent gonna be singles..... by now???????.... cuz maybe i got some info from Cure people (crew) thay said that maybe will another bunch of singles once the record is out!!!!! doesnt sound to crazy....mmmm
See? Doesn't matter if you are French or English; how to write properly still remains a mystery to the both of you. Very badly written indeed. Cool. Now join hands.
oh sorry for the mistakes----i wrote all that in 10 secs....lol.... but hey after a new talking... they say that's almost sure that maybe 2 or 3 new singles could be released after the album... and also that their already making the plans for the next tour---- too soon? not?...
oh sorry for the mistakes----i wrote all that in 10 secs....lol.... but hey after a new talking... they say that's almost sure that maybe 2 or 3 new singles could be released after the album... and also that their already making the plans for the next tour---- too soon? not?...
and dammit if freakshow didn't deserve to be number one everywhere... normally i don't give a fuck about the charts but i guess i just want to share this song with the world (not that i wrote it or performed it, mind you, just that i love it so dearly)
I'm convinced the charts are all wrong. Great songs are eliminated so quickly because they get virtually no airplay and no videoplay (here in Canada). If they were played more often instead of being snuffed out immediately, then more people like us would hear them and get into the band. It's such a shame. Same crap over and over. Meanwhile Pitchfork media can't stop raving about that idiot Lil Wayne, who sounds like he's done crack; the guy has nothing interesting to say and his music isn't very good, and pitchfork lauds every bloody thing he does, but has ignored my pleas to post links to youtube clips of new Cure awesomeness.
I don't blame the Cure for not doing videos anymore.
dont worry about how i could get the info.....better prepar to enjoy with the new album... i can tell you that the info come from a very relieble perosn... and if the plans flow as they think the tour could be so amzing and not just for the music (the best ever done),,,i mean theyre planning a "different stage"... i hope so.. i cant wait for more Cure gigs...... the info now is running if have more for sure ill let you know........
well fuck me with a wedge of frommage... if they do another tour it better be when I have time off! i.e., the summer! i want to be able to follow them all over the place. of course, where would i get the money? i spent it all on the 4Tour. Oh well, no matter...you live once (well, probs more than that, but anyway...), so I'll just go into deep debt. No, that's not prudent... I'll figure it out, though! I'll just go hungry... I need to lose a bit of weight after France anyway. :-)
So yeah... I hope they tour in the summer, but it's doubtful the tour would happily coincide with my schedule AGAIN. it did in 04 and 08, but i can't possibly be lucky three times.
I would love another Curiosa, if that's what "another stage" means.
Let's see... who would they play with... Mogwai again most definately... and maybe some mor / better bands in that vein. I'm not terribly impressed with 65daysofstatic, as much as I am with say a band like oh I dunno Pelican or Russian Circles or Caspian or God is an Astronaut or Saxon Shore just to shamelessly show off my exceptionally broad and heady music tastes. :)
and the b-side is 'the perfect girl.'
ReplyDeleteoh, wait...
LOL Monkey :P
ReplyDeleteAnd how do these people know the track listing already; damn insiders!
anah, where are you seeing the track listing?
ReplyDeleteWell like we all guessed that by now but I'm still happy to see The Perfect Boy will be the 4th single.
ReplyDeleteSo what I wanna know is what's the B-side & the single cover look like!
A mite ahead of themselves, aren't they?
ReplyDeletei guess this goes back to the old days vs internet. its fun seeing and hearing bits of the songs before theyre even released officialy, but i truly wish that i had gotten to experience what you guys did when you were my age - the surprise that came with the anticipation of new material. you didnt see what was coming until it got out.

ReplyDeleteMonkey: Well, not on that eBay listing...but I saw the entire "alleged" (BIG emphasis on alleged)album listing recently somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI didn't believe it anyway and it's not Official, so it doesn't matter... <3

ReplyDeleteYAY! The Perfect Boy is the Perfect Single - I am excited!
ReplyDeletedj, nope, wherehouse. the name of a now defunct (mostly, i think) music store.
ReplyDeleteExcellent choice!

ReplyDeletedont worry about how i could get the info.....better prepar to enjoy with the new album... i can tell you that the info come from a very relieble perosn... and if the plans flow as they think the tour could be so amzing and not just for the music (the best ever done),,,i mean theyre planning a "different stage"... i hope so.. i cant wait for more Cure gigs...... the info now is running if have more for sure ill let you know........
:^P
ReplyDeletewell fuck me with a wedge of frommage... if they do another tour it better be when I have time off! i.e., the summer! i want to be able to follow them all over the place. of course, where would i get the money? i spent it all on the 4Tour. Oh well, no matter...you live once (well, probs more than that, but anyway...), so I'll just go into deep debt. No, that's not prudent... I'll figure it out, though! I'll just go hungry... I need to lose a bit of weight after France anyway. :-)
ReplyDeleteSo yeah... I hope they tour in the summer, but it's doubtful the tour would happily coincide with my schedule AGAIN. it did in 04 and 08, but i can't possibly be lucky three times.
I FUCKING LOVE CURE SHOWS!
"different stage" - you MUST explain that. complete with catwalks so robert can come closer to more parts of the audience? :-D
ReplyDelete*drooling at the prospect*
I would love another Curiosa, if that's what "another stage" means.
ReplyDeleteLet's see... who would they play with... :)
