Come To Me preview

65dos on - Twitter / MySpace / Facebook.

Update 3:
The album is out today. Get it, or just 'Come To Me', at Amazon (US) / Amazon (UK) or iTunes. The album, and song, are pretty brilliant.

Update 2:
Robert has posted about this on the official site.

Update:
The full album is streaming on MySpace. Really enjoying 'Come To Me'.

As most of you know, 65daysofstatic have a new album, 'We Were Exploding Anyway', due out on April 26th, and Robert has contributed vocals to the track 'Come To Me'. Here's a sample of the album, and here's a review of the track: "Listening to an advance promo cd of the new album, and particularly the RS vocals on "Come to Me". It's a classic 65DOS 8 minutes fast track, with great vocals that should please Cure fans (well i like it anyway)...Robert's vocals are a bit deep in the mix and not that obvious at first listen.....i have listened to it 5 or 7 times and it is a really good track in my opinion." (Thanks JC)

  1. Awful. I remember when I saw them open for The Cure I thought, "This is just irritating noise". This preview just confirms my initial opinion. I don't understand why Robert backs these guys, they're just terrible.

  2. Oh really? I think they have some really excellent songs.

  3. I don't know how you distinguish between their songs. If I want the 65D experience all I need to do is turn a guitar amplifier up until I'm assaulted by ear-bleeding feedback.

I love Robert and I usually dig his musical preferences but I don't understand why he continues to back this band. When I saw them open for The Cure I couldn't wait for their set to be over, it was actually painful.

  4. Can't wait. When 65 opened for the Cure in 2008 I really loved their set...

  5. i agree with JPX... horrible... pretentious twats who discovered feedback and somehow got a reasonably talented drummer to help them organize it... i saw the last tour at more than one stop and it got worse with each listen.

  6. I kinda like it. Might buy if I can find it...

  8. To each their own of course, but i say listen to that track because the vocals make it a really good song altogether..as for the whole album it's good, classic 65D, not breaking many new ground, but fans will enjoy it for sure.

  9. First saw them on The Cure tour and been to a couple of 65DOS shows since and absolutely love them. Nice guys as well (the opposite of pretentious..). Match made in heaven & shows the Robert is still interested in what going on now, not just looking back.

  10. You know, if one removed the vocals from Cut it could almost pass for "irritating noise"...

  11. 'You know, if one removed the vocals from Cut it could almost pass for "irritating noise"...'

That's true. It's a good thing that this is not the case for every single Cure song like it is for 65D.

  12. i didn't mind them live, but i tried listening to the album recently and found it really bad. and this coming from a person who LOVES mogwai and that post-rock sound.

  13. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ahhhhhhhh close your eyes and come to me!SORRY TO GO ON BUT THE MORE I LISTEN THE MORE I LOVE IT....and you will...you just can't resist

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hmmm.. I don't like what I hear right now :/ But I'm still psyched to hear more Robert vocals hehe

    ReplyDelete
  15. It doesn't really matter who opens for the Cure....I can't wait for them to get off of the stage. Maybe Led Zeppelin would be an exception. But man...I hate the wait. Didn't really mind 65days though.

    ReplyDelete
  16. i hate to be cynical but how many people would really like them if the cure or Robert were not connected to it..i think the number would be incredibly lower!

    ReplyDelete
  17. the cure have had in the past really good opening acts: the cranes, love and rockets, pixies, shellyan orphan...

  20. I think 65DOS are great, I actually heard them before they were opening the 4 tour shows, tons of energy, fresh, I think they are great, as far as would I listen if they had nothing to do with the Cure? definitely, Roger O'donnell however as a solo artist is some of the most boring music I have heard and dont get me wrong I think he's a great musician, but if you have seen his performances, I challenge you to stay awake.
I realize this is all a matter of opinion so I dont want to spark a debate as if I am not a true Fan if I don't like a band members solo work, but I think it's good for Robert to try new things and shake it up a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I agree with JPX, zap and birdmad2000..........the 65dos noise is horrible!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. i don't have much of an opinion on them, i don't think they're bad though. it's a better idea for a collaboration than some others have been, i think.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I really enjoy listening to 65DOS. During the 4-tour I always made sure to show up early enough to catch them play (all eleven times). Even went to see them play in a small club inbetween 4-tour shows. And yes if I hadn't heard them open for The Cure I probably would not know of them today. But I did and glad I did and would buy new album even if Robert had not sung on one song.

  24. will admit that seeing an band open for a bigger or headlining act is not always the best way to judge them as their soundcheck or sound in general is not always up to par with the main act (e.g. the cranes at several cure performances while very good, they suffered from bad sound and when on their own are much better!)

and i always hated that BS that you aren't true fan for this or that reason...i mean there is a lot of crap robert "artistically" does i hate or i feel is lame, but thats just me being my own person and not blindly following or hanging on every lil thing he or the cure does.

i agree with the comment about roger's music...its like in the easy listening category,,,and some of the songs would be improved to my liking if he stopped over using that Moog,; we get it roger you are a Moog fan!

    ReplyDelete
  25. See, I don't like Roger's past music so much, but the videos he posted recently are REALLY solid in my opinion... I like the videos with him playing piano and the cellist and also the songs with the woman singing... I think they're much prettier than his past albums and less like elevator music :P

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yes 65DOS are horrible noise -- in the Lester Bangs sense. After opening for the Cure last year I saw them play a late set at Emo's. They looked more comfortable there, But honestly I think they sounded better in the big halls. Definitely depends on how you feel about noise. Something like a Texas storm front coming down the side of a mountain. I enjoyed them very much.

    ReplyDelete
  27. They are called Cranes...just plain Cranes.

    ReplyDelete
  28. also really like them - if robert wants to back them, then what's the problem he must rate them...

the fall of math is a great album

    ReplyDelete
  29. Can we drop this whole 'true fan' nonsense before it escalates again?

I'm not a really a fan of 65days, but I can't wait to hear the track with Roberts vocals.

    ReplyDelete
  30. cranes/ the cranes...jebus stop hanging on a bloody modifier

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm with you, Andrew, let's stay above the belt, guys..
We have some vocals from Robert, here!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Love 65dos.. One Time for All Time is a great album.. songs like Radio Protector, 65 Doesn't Understand you, etc. are great.

Heard of them before the cure tour and was definitely looking forward to it... I know the post/math-rock
genre doesn't really jive well with most of the cure's stuff but that certainly doesn't mean it's bad.

    ReplyDelete
  33. @ birdmad2000..not being petty but it is quite important to state the proper name of a band, as it is what defines them in a way.You wouldn't say The U2 or The Wham, or Jam...so that's why i felt the need to correct you.

    ReplyDelete
  34. and//// there's a seperate ( completely different /shiite) nabhd called the cranes too ..:)

    ReplyDelete
  35. The name thing apparently isn't that important, the album Wish is not by "The Cure" just Cure
it's amazing what people get hung up on

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hahahahah ENTREAT, you're so right!! x] It really does not matter that much.... I mean, a band is a band and everyone will know who you're talking about anyways :P

    ReplyDelete
  37. The last time I followed a suggestion to other bands was Rogers posting his Remix he did for Pony Da Look. I am so happy, probably I wouldn´t know this great band without him. Check them out! Rogers Remix should be on their MySpace site.

  40. i could go on about how in this case "the" was being used as a modifier" since cranees was the first band i listed but at this point i am too tired to give a damn and it doesn't really matter to argue over something so silly :P

    anyway a favour to ask...
anyone have the cure shows 1996 miami, nashville, and 2000 st louis, 2004 Sf curiosa...
i have been to over 75 cure concerts starting in 1989 and have all on bootleg but these few have escaped me. I know they are not the best or most memorable in concerts from the band...but for nostalgic reasons i would like to have them...

    thanks in advanced!

  41. I went to see Cranes on Ssaturday night last and they were bloody fantastic ! Hadn't seen them since Hyde Park London gig in 2002

    ReplyDelete
  42. love Cranes too. Keith I am jealous, would love to see them soon again. But for an Indieband they play quite rarely. And they are much better in the clubs then on the big stages at the Cure gigs.

  43. the whole song here

  44. A bit surprised by how much I'm loving this track.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I totally dig this track, it almost has a sound as if the Japanese Whispers album was recorded now, that's what I hear in the vocals, the haunting echoes, I also really liked 65DOS anyway, this is the best of both worlds, not just noise

    ReplyDelete
  46. I don't like it. To me it sounds like a poor remix of a much better song. Roberts vocals are pushed so far back in the mix I question the point of them being there at all.

It's a shame really as I thought their remix of The Perfect Boy was a highlight of the Hypnagogic States E.P

    ReplyDelete
  47. listening now! i'll let you know my thoughts

    ReplyDelete
  48. i actually it a lot more than i expected. i don't think his vocals are THAT far back in the mix like some of you are saying.

now, i'm probably not going to go buy the album, but i like this track a lot more than most other 65DOS songs i've heard. then again, maybe i WILL go buy the album, the more i think about it.

    not a bad collaboration :)

  50. way to really put that Autotune to use there fellas :P but its not repetitive enough for my taste...haha

    ReplyDelete
  51. i think i need some ritalin for this song now...definately an aspirin after listening to it

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm in the iffy camp still. I hated 65DoS live, hated them and covered my ears when they came on.

As a live act, I thought they were way way too loud. I still think that their set would have been much improved if it hadn't been quite so loud.

But, I was surprised by how much their mixes on HS grew on me, even to the point that I preferred them over the others and instead of skipping EHS would go right to it instead.

So, even though this didn't excite me too much on the first listen, I'm sure I'll download it and and play it a few times and then probably love it.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I think I like this one though it sounds a little bit stange to my ears - the first part of the track seems a bit overremixed.....

    ReplyDelete
  54. I see no problem with this collaboration..
It's not really what I would call "noise".. I confess I didn't see 65DOS support the 4Tour so I have nothing to compare it to..
I think alot of people here are forgetting the fact it's NOT Robert's/The Cure's song, he's simply putting vocals on a track as directed/guided by 65DOS to return the favour they did for him, as he's done for many other collaborations..
If anything, good or bad, Robert is getting them publicity. No, they are giving EACHOTHER publicity. I honestly don't see that as a negative thing..
If anything, see it as a warm up to our "hit"..

    ReplyDelete
  55. Not terrible, but not something I'd listen to.

I agree with others that when they opened up - I saw the Atlanta show - it was way too loud. I would have enjoyed it more if they'd have toned it down.

    They're obviously very talented musicians.

    OK... more THE CURE, pls.

    ReplyDelete
  56. yeah, i didn't see their set on 4tour; i showed up a little late. but there are probably a lot of worse openers they could've chosen.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I agree with ENTREAT, sounds like it's from circa 1982-83, it had that vibe. On first listen I like it.

65DOS is a challenging band to enjoy, it's math-rock, not toe tapping stuff. Their sound is dense and while it may sound random and noise-like sometimes I can guarantee that's it all calculated and written! They are very good musicians as well, you have to be to pull that type of music off. I like them.

  58. They've got a pretty good drummer :) I like it so far. And although I've never seen them live i think they've got some really good songs. Parts of come to me reminded me a little of exploding head syndrome which I didn't mind at all. I love
the parts where Robert is howling, perhaps it's just me, but me for some reason the first time i heard it, it reminded me of the end 'howling' part of antony and the Johnsons song- hope there's someone.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I really really liked this track!! I thought it was very well done, even though I usually don;t enjoy techno-y stuff :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think it's just brilliant, no more bullshit stuff like Saffron (Ok it was a Cure song but still rubbish), Korn (I like them but the medley was horrible) and Blink-182 (terrible band aven though the song w/Robert is OK).

I'd like to hear Bob w/Sigur Ros or Mogwaii too

    ReplyDelete
  61. sometimes i get the feeling robert finds out his news from cof :P

    ReplyDelete
  62. @ Lindsey - Haha! I see what you did there..
Bit of a delayed reaction, wasn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think alot of people here are forgetting the fact it's NOT Robert's/The Cure's song, he's simply putting vocals on a track as directed/guided by 65DOS to return the favour they did for him, as he's done for many other collaborations..

Interesting point...do we know who wrote the lyrics?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Best collaboration in years.
Keep making music with good musicians, Robert

    ReplyDelete
  65. Wow. This was not at all what I expected out of this track, but I'm in the Like It camp, which I expect to be upgraded to Love It after a few more listens. :)

    ReplyDelete
  66. V: You have excellent taste. : ) Now come join me on the darkside. As RS once said, "Come on and Love It". : )

  67. yaaaawn........
sounds like early 90s indie/dance b-side at best.
    evrythings too old hat.
    not my cup of tea.
if you like it fair enough, i wont hold it against you.

  68. prefer roberts experiments with dance/electronic much more eventhough they dont seem to bee too popular around here.
