Disintegration set promo sampler
Someone has posted the Disintegration promo sampler. Since this is not a commercial release, and is just a small sample of the full set, I'm going to post it here and hope for the best. : ) If anyone (Cure, Universal, Rhino) has a problem with it, please just email me and it will be removed immediately. (Thanks C.o.m.p.e.i.l.e.r)

ReplyDeletejust downloaded this a few minutes before i saw you posted. giving it a listen now.
ReplyDeleteDamn! End of May can not come soon enough! : )
ReplyDeleteBoris is much flatter, Robert is higher.
ReplyDeleteI like the difference but would of loved it similar.
I downloaded it when I saw it in the other post :P I'M SO EXCITED FOR MAY WHATEVER-IT-IS-NOW... :D
ReplyDeleteSounds compressed to hell and back!!! Noooooooooo!

ReplyDeleteSAME DEEP WATER AS YOU DEMO...Awesome.
ReplyDeletemy initial plan was to not even download this and make myself wait until late may - but it was too tempting :P
ReplyDeleteanyway, it sounds different, but you know, i do like it. and i like the way the remastered of the original album sounds the more i listen to those few songs.
Isn't it? That's worth the price alone! : )
ReplyDeleteDelirious Night is pretty funky. Appropriately titled, tribal stuff going on there. Like the Plainsong-esque windchimes also.
ReplyDeleteOhh I quite like Delirious Nights too... So weird :P
ReplyDeleteI really like the mix, I just created a video for both "come to me" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEJh5a6qnZ8
ReplyDeleteand Delirious Night which should be ready in about 12 minutes, if you watch"Come to me" and just click more from entreat71, you should see the video, I cant wait for this set to come out!!!

That Same Deep Water demo just did my head in. So powerful.
ReplyDeleteso far sounds great... I love Delerious Night :). you can't help but moooove.... :).
ReplyDeletewas the seamless crossfade from lullaby to fascination street just for the promo? or is all of the pre-song dialog edited out in the entreat remaster?
ReplyDeleteGuys - this is crisp. Boris is happy. Put the headphones on and remember - it's a copy of a copy and still transcends. They put some serious effort into this deluxe edition (as they should). Time to dust off the hairs on the back of my neck...
ReplyDeletedelirious night is my new icing sugar/tomorrow never knows!
ReplyDeletecompletely genius.

ReplyDeletethank you so much for this. I love love love!!!
ReplyDelete@J. i'm thinking they may have done that to all the songs. maybe to make it sounds like the album itself, just live. kinda weird at first but i think i could get used to it. and i've got my original entreat for whenever i miss the old ones.
ReplyDelete@Lindsey, I was thinking the same as you, to make it more like the album.
ReplyDeleteThe remaster of the song Disintegration from Entreat didn't sound right to my ears. The drums and bass felt weak. I fear they may have taken some of the guts out of that one. A shame, as, for me, it's the strongest version of that song.
Holy s%^# the Same Deep Water demo is incredible. My favorite song of all time and the demo just makes it even better. That guitar solo is chilling.
ReplyDeleteTalk about goosebumps.
Entreat sounds completely different.
ReplyDeleteIt's a totally different mix, sounds drier and less effect laden, Roberts vocals are much softer, less harsh.
Disintegration on the other hand sounds exactly the same, can't yet hear any difference from the original album.
I opened the tracks side by side in and audio editor and the remaster actually looks a tiny bit quieter than the original, which is quite refreshing, as often these remaster jobs are just louder.
Hopefully there'll be some improvements in the mastering that I've not noticed yet.
Some words about remastering becos the public at large seems to be ill-informed about what exactly mastering and re-mastering entails:
ReplyDeleteThe files presented here are in a compressed format, mp3, which is a lossy data; the original file/track on the compact disc is the original, uncompressed source. To get an mp3, data from the original source is either reduced or all together omitted in order to fit a lot of information into a smaller chunk of information. What this means to the listener is usually a reduction in high frequencies ( hi-hats, cymbals, vox with lots of reverb) and a less defined bottom-end, or low frequency. The end result is that the audio data is "squashed" or compressed( To the listener who viewed the tracks in an audio analyzer, this is why the soundwave appears smaller and doesn't mean that it is "quieter.")
To judge this particular remaster in this format is unfair to both the band and the engineer they used. Wait until you have the CD in your hands and in your player to offer some sort of assessment.
While remastering often involves increasing the overall output or master volume to better match up to todays releases, this is only a small part of what goes on. Usually, equalization, or EQ, is applied to the stereo mix to bring out certain frequencies that the engineer or in this case, the band may choose. Most areas focused on would be any issues with apparent "muddy-ness" or "flat-ness" could be corrected, or anything the band/client didn't like about the original master could be fixed, ie., particular frequencies enhanced/cut back such as cymbals=hi, vocals=mid, bass, kick=low end. Whenver EQ is applied, it to has the ability to increase the overall volume because certain frequencies were boosted and some reduced. ( An increase in frequency is in an increase in amplitude which means "louder" in either direction, hi or lo).
A remaster is NOT a re-mix, unless liner notes state otherwise. A re-mix of the album would be to remix the entirety of the tracks used to record the record and then subsequently mix down to a two channel system, from which point a master is applied to the two channel stereo mix. Some listeners confuse this, becos it is entirely possible to increase/reduce certain frequencies due to overall EQ, as mentioned above, thus convincing a listener that a particular artist went back and physically rasied the levels on voice/snare/bass/whatever.
I hope this helps and I look forward to the remastering job on Disintegration. Cure fans should be so lucky that they had Chris Blair remaster the first few re-issues before he died; he was a mastering engineer at Abbey Road who knew his trade extremely well, one of the best. Take care.
Thank you! Excellent post!
ReplyDeleteThanks seefeel! That cleared a lot up : )
ReplyDeleteI think it sounds incredible. Can't wait!!

ReplyDeleteNice to hear it while waiting for the real thing, but being MP3s can't comment on the quality of the remaster...
ReplyDelete@seefeel..... thanks heaps for that.
ReplyDeleteI never understand why people judge from a MP3 quality...wait for the actual release...
ReplyDeleteIf someone is willing to sell their copy to the Netherlands or can give me an adress please inform me. ( I didn't order through ideal copy due to the high price at that moment).
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome to those of you who read my lengthy explanation. I understand that everyone is excited about Disintegration since we all kew it would eventually be a reality when Kiss Me was reissued so long ago.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, I've been a fan of Chain of Flowers for some time and have mentioned previously on this site, that I would be more than happy to wait for the Disintegration remaster to be done right, audio/packaging work, and released whenever the band saw fit.
The status of this record is very well cemented in not only Cure history but in great records made over-all. You can bet your bottom dollar that Robert Smith wants to get this right. Therefore, I am more than fine with the constant changes to the release date. However, that doesn't mean that I am not as excited as everyone else, but how much would it ( for want of a better word) suck to spend thirty-forty dollars on this and the remaster was crap and the packaging was shoddy? You would feel totally betrayed, if that were the case.
I just made a video for "The Same Deep Water As You" group demo, here is the youtube link

the PUFF does say that Entreat was remixed, funny nobody seemed to catch this (including myself)
ReplyDeletethe live tracks sound pretty great to me and still we have the orignal mix anyways.
I guess someone complained. The link is removed now.
ReplyDeletethe link is still there at the top of the page

ReplyDeleteOf course now the link works after three days of trying it! Oh well..better late than never.
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell has he done to the snare drum sound on Entreat? ...dear oh dear oh dear
ReplyDeleteThis is shameful
I was so much looking forward to a full Entreat but I feel like crying because of the hatchet job he's done on the remix
How can he possibly believe that snare drum sound, sounds better than the original mix ? Smith's hearing is gone to pot. Shame Shame Shame
Very exciting.
ReplyDeletethe new mix of entreat sounds weak, disintegration live is not as powerful as I was used to :( what the duce!?
ReplyDeletethe original mix of entreat sounds much better than this new version. the snare drum sounds terrible, and porls guitar has been lowered big time, and roberts vocals have too much delay on them.
ReplyDeleteexciting!!
