Howard Thompson, former vice-president of Elektra's A&R department, has posted two Cure stories from 1985 & 1989, along with some photos. (Thanks DJ Scribbles)
i really like those lyrics rsx wrote! if i were that person that would mean so much to me! i mean and autograph is one thing but LYRICS?!? that has to be the coolest thing ever
"The guys kept themselves to themselves for most of the afternoon but they made all the appropriate exclamations as a stripper got her face deep-fried in a chip-pan" ...Well, my life now feels so much more complete knowing that!
Actually he signed all of his posts on the official site with RSX, until the most recent post when he changed it to rs. That's why some of us write RSX in reference to him.
THAT's Chris Parry? I remember him from "The Cure: Play Out" 1992 video. He was in the background and I assumed, based on his dissheveled and shy appearance, that he was a working class roadie or something. Bastard screwed Robert by selling his back catalogue.
Ah, really? I used to just use 'RS' when I didn't say 'Robert', but recently started using 'RSX' mostly because of the official site posts and other fans. Well, now I know.
How cow. The guy is responsible for getting "Fascination Street" put on "Disintegration". The Cure had recorded it for some soundtrack instead. Fracking brilliant!
The only thing is that Lullaby came first, if I'm not mistaken, and then Fascination St., in order of singles. So FS was not a "perfect lead up" to Lullaby, or whatever it was that he said. Although I agree that it could have been. ;) Anything on Disintegration could have been the perfect lead up to anything else because it's all so fucking perfect. Oh and by the way, Morris, I AM a Ninja, I'll help! ;)
Great find DJ! I love it & the photos are great too. It's like some sort of unfound treasure that catches you by surprise. Nice bit a cure history we didn't know about till now! And hand written lyrics way cool!
Nice stories!

ReplyDeleteThose were nice stories.
ReplyDeleteIt'd be amazing to have lyrics handwritten by RSX! (:
RS, no X.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree Craig. It drives me mad when people put an X there. It means "kisses".

ReplyDeleteJeff - not in the US. "Fascination St." came first.
ReplyDeleteJeff: In the US, the Disintegration promotion started with FS, then Lovesong, then Lullaby, and finished with Pictures of You.
