NIN releases 2nd album in 2 months!

Un-freaking-believable! The rumors were true. Nine Inch Nails has just released another album - The Slip. And they're giving this one away for free.
So in 2 months they have released a 36 track instrumental album and now a 10 track album. Fantastic!

  4. Remember the days when Robert would randomly release singles like Burn or cover songs like "Young Americans"? I miss that Robert.

I do: half-assed soundtrack work while we waited 4 years to get ... WMS?!

  6. I disagree, I love the stuff he released in between albums and I especially like the stuff he released before WMS because it is better than most of the WMS stuff, in my opinion.

  7. I don't want to steal the idea but... in case the record company refuses to release a double album, I want Robert to provide us all other songs not icluded in the album via Internet. I don't want their works to be wasted.

  8. Maybe eventually Robert will realize what Trent does, that mainstream radio (especially in America) has turned its back on decent music, and that NIN's and Radiohead's business models provide a great opportunity for getting a band like The Cure's music to the people who want to hear it without the worry of charts and label pressure.

  9. Just call it the NIN model. Radiohead's initial release of In Rainbows was not a sincere effort to test the waters of that model.

  10. It takes big stones to release a full album you could have made some serious cash from in FLAC/WAVE under a creative commons licence. Hats off to him though. 1,000,000 and Discipline are the standouts for me.

The Cure could easily work with this model if they wanted to. Maybe a best of / 10 track sampler of the double disc set for free at 192+? It'd introduce a whole new audience to their work...

  11. they could have charged a dollar of this and made a mint!
    sounds good from the streams
STILL don't have a download link in my inbox though :(

  14. It took a couple hours for the link to arrive in my email but well worth the wait (huge understatement). Thanks Trent! (and Craig for posting this...)

  15. I typically only care for one or two tracks off of NIN discs. All that aside, this is pretty cool.

  16. There are still NIN fans? Sorry, I matured beyond them years ago. ;-)

Seriously, though - I saw NIN with Bauhaus as the opener, and Bauhaus just BLEW NIN away. I was embarrassed for NIN.

NIN is like Ministry-Lite. And sucky Ministry-Lite at that.

    Carry on! :-D

  17. Haha, I saw Bauhaus by themselves in Buffalo during the only date that they weren't playing with NIN during that tour. Great show. :) Oh, and I saw Daniel Ash play solo in 2002, and might see Peter Murphy play solo in June, though I'm not set on that.

  18. dude! the bauhaus show in buffalo was soo fucking good.

  23. NIN are revolutionary with this release 'The Slip', I expect a lot more of this type of releasing of music by bands. This is just the beginning !

The CD format is dead and done.

  24. Well, then, M, we should hang out sometime. Aside from the two days that I spent in Deaconess after I was born, I've lived my entire life in Niagara Falls, NY.

Oh, and regarding Robert and Trent, think about this for a moment:

Robert stopped using drugs, save for the occasional toke on weed, and cut his booze consumption significantly. His production and focus have dropped considerably.

Trent stopped using drugs, and probably cut down on his drinking, as well. His production and focus have skyrocketed.

Conclusion: Robert needs to start taking whatever he can find, minus meth, as long as it's quality stuff.
