Does anyone else find the tote bags with Robert's head on them totally hilarious? $40 for a shirt! That's enough for gas money to drive and see another show! ;)
Yeah that's really ridiculous. The cost of entertainment is just appalling these days. I think I'll skip the shirt. I bet a sweatshirt would be my mortgage payment.
c'mon guys do you think that you can find these items in wallmart, keymart, drugstore, marshall or in a gas station?....do you want everything free? if you don't have money you should work hard...i don't know what happen with the people, everybody want all free,45$ for a shirt it's to much...70$ for a concert it's to much...2.99$ for a single it's to much...but everybody spend 300$ for a prostitute and it's ok...c'mon guys think about it...
well, i'll be obvious and say, looks like the setlist so far is the same as 99% of the euro shows. so it looks like, unless some weird bug hits and they decide to start playing different stuff, i'll be hearing this same setlist on 5.31.
not that i'm completely complaining. i haven't seen them in 8 years. i'll be pretty happy just to be there. but i was hoping for a bit of a shakeup.
hi tom i don't believe that i better person than you or any person...but i think the people spend day after day a lot monet for cigarrets,beers,etc...it's once every four year that the cure coming with a new album.do you what i mean?...you don't spend your money for a shirt of rap singer..it's the cure(ours Good)the cure it's Art...i am a poor guy however i pay anything for any item from the cure...
Ram, $45 is a ridiculous amount of money to pay for a tee-shirt, and, yes, you can find these items outside of the concert venue. I work hard but with gas now $4/gallon I think I'll save my money.
This coverage is just so cool! I saw The Verve in NYC recently and they only played like 12 songs or so. I can't believe how many songs The Cure perform!!! You certainly get your money's worth. I'll be seeing them in Boston on Monday, woo-hoo!
Worth every sent I paid for those tickets!!! Unbelievable. I was worried that by having an opening band they would play less, but that doesn't seem to be the case at all!
Actually, JPX, no, they're not at half price on the official site. Those are British pounds.
Oh, and the setlist? I'm unimpressed. They've had more than a month to rehearse, and this is what they present to us? Come on, man. Here's what I'd like to hear that they haven't played...
Other Voices All Cats Are Grey Faith (they'll probably get around to this one at some point) Charlotte Sometimes Siamese Twins The Figurehead Give Me It (I don't see this one showing up) The Blood (ditto) The Baby Screams Sinking The Kiss Torture If Only Tonight We Could Sleep The Snake Pit (extremely doubtful) How Beautiful You Are Shiver and Shake Untitled (this barely had encore status when it first came out, so definitely not going to happen) Open Doing the Unstuck Trust (no keyboards, so not happening) End The Big Hand (they've played it since Porl's come back, so it's not unreasonable) Want Mint Car Pretty much anything from Bloodflowers Lost Labyrinth Going Nowhere
That's about it. I'd be happy if 1/3 of those end up getting played before the end of the tour.
merch is waay overpriced. bad economy and lots of crew to pay - im not surprised. but i clearly remember paying $25 for that cure4tour shirt at download festival. and now its like 45! 0.0 there are even old cure shirts from the wish tour on ebay - thats CHEAPER than that! geez.
that was a great night! expectations were far surpassed. the new song was interesting, somewhere between kiss me and wish; hope to hear it again tomorrow night. the best version of push i have ever heard. :D the only time i missed the keys was lovecats.
hey shawn they have played how beautifull you are and faith from your lists of stuff theyve missed.i heard them myself,, you shoulda gone to paris silly boy
Can I just say one thing Re: T-shirts? I bought the black one with 'The Cure' written in red (you can see it next to the white one in the middle of the picture) for 30€ in Madrid, and that is 46 US$. Yes, they are more expensive than they were but some of it is mostly due to the current exchange rate with the Euro. Little consolation, I suppose.
Waking up in Europe this morning reading this...and..can't you guys fucking shut up about $45 shirts!!!!...don't buy them if you think they are expensive....now... telling us what you thought of the new song would be oh sooooooooo much more interesting.Thanks..
jpx, 20 British pounds equal $38.97 US with current rates, so I assume that the 20 pound shirts are the ones that they're selling for $40. Man, and I complained about the prices at the Dream Tour! :P Perhaps the prices will be a bit better in Toronto.
deadboycraved, I know about that. That's why I said, "Note: I was referring to songs that either weren't played at this show, or were hardly touched in Europe, ie. Faith, which was played once."
Getting back to the merch, you don't suppose one of the reasons why they're charging so much is to recoup their losses from the merch that got printed up last year, but could no longer be used due to the tour postponement, do you?
I was skeptical going into last night's show. An amazing, energized performance. Of the three new songs, Perfect Boy was my favorite. They have not sounded this good since the Prayer Tour. Having seen them every tour at least once since 1985, this show ranks in my Top 3. I NEVER thought I would say that I did not miss the keyboards, but really...I didn't.
I'll be in the 4th Row tonight and hope to provide some nice pics. (maybe a video..we'll see)
It will be nice to see what they put into the mix tonight. (It's too early in the Tour to hope for Faith, but dare to dream)
Forget talking about the merchandise. Talk about the show--AWESOME. They out perform themselves every time I see them. Loved the new songs too. Robert and Co. seemed to be having a great time. The performance was tight, Robert's voice strong, and the crowd loved it!! Worth the wait!
Comon guys!the band of our hearts is on tour in your country and the only theme your are talking about is the price of merch?Unbelievable,in my opinion.Me and my fantastic girlfriend spend about 200 Euros(not Dollars!!!) for tickets, beer, and shirts, man,it`s Cure!!!!!!And it has been a cure for the treatment everyday at work, more than 3 hours amazing music and Robert singing!!What do you think is it worth to pay,i think it is unpayable!!!
as a song i prefer freakshow and the only one over perfect boy. i am trying to think of the song now and i cant remember anything specific that stuck to my mind about it. a bad sign for me :)
and as far as the shirt prices: no one has to buy. so skip the whining and concentrate on the show.
The cost of entertainment is absolutely relevant. I paid $300 for 2 tickets (not great seats) for the Monday Boston show. After parking in Boston $50 for "event parking", and paying for the gas it will take to drive to Boston from R.I. $25, those $45 tee-shirts begin to look a bit out or reach. I have Cure tee-shirts from previous tours and they're holding up quite fine. I don't need to dum another $45 to get a black tee-shirt that probably corst $2 to make. Does anyone ever buy the programs? I used to but it occured to me one day that once I got it home I never looked at it ever again. There are endless posts on this blog about the various shows and set lists, I don't think it's a problem to discuss other band-related issues as well.
Shawn-W, thanks for the conversion information. I can see now that it's basically the same price from the official site.
Stop moaning about it people please...$45 a shirt is cheap if you think you won't have to buy one for (at least) another 4 years! All of you should be happy to have seen one of, if not, your favourite band..and all you can do is go on about prices..Sad.
Perfect.murder, I think there's plenty of room to have multiple conversations about various Cure topics. If you don't like a topic, don't respond to it. If I want to complain about prices, I will. If you want to focus on new songs, than so be it. What's the big deal? Just make a post about whatever you want. Does it pain you that much to read about a topic you have little interest in? Obviously more than one person has an interest in the prices of things. sorry if this sounds like a rant, it isn't. I'm just sayin'.
2late the big hand the kiss harold and joe give me it all cats are grey some kind of lysergic-induced version of icing sugar how beautiful you are m figurehead strange day a pink dream
yes.
i agree that the shirt prices are absolutely ridiculous. i remember paying $25-$30 for the shirts on the wish tour and thinking that was nuts. especially since- for some reason- the only size they had in the 90's was XL. however...i'll end up buying shirts regardless because my insanity obviously knows no bounds.
I'm very surprised to see that nobody mentioned Porl's various sound problems and having to switch guitars mid-song on a couple of occasions. The new song, to me at least, wasn't great but it was a solid mid-tempo pop track about as good as some of the better stuff off of the last album. They seemed to be going through the motions, so to speak, in the beginning of the set but by the time 'Lovesong' hit, the crowd was really pumped and Robert seemed to be getting more and more energetic with each song. I've never seen him talk to the audience so much. One comment that amused me went something like: "So apparently there IS a curfew here (said around midnight or so)...fuck that!" I'd give the show a solid 4 out of 5 because it was fun and energetic, their playing was awesome, but the setlist was a bit "by-the-numbers" and left a bit to be desired. I think more than enough people would have been more than happy to see 'The Kiss' thrown in (instead of a shitter like 'Wrong Number') and Head On The Door tracks, 'The Blood' and 'The Baby Screams'.
$45 for a shirt?! and here i was trying to justify spending $30 for a shirt, and they go and make the one i like $45!
ReplyDeleteYou could buy a ticket for another show at those prices!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else find the tote bags with Robert's head on them totally hilarious? $40 for a shirt! That's enough for gas money to drive and see another show! ;)
ReplyDeletethe tour book its the same craig???
ReplyDeleteIt should be, but I don't have any photos yet.
ReplyDeleteYeah that's really ridiculous. The cost of entertainment is just appalling these days. I think I'll skip the shirt. I bet a sweatshirt would be my mortgage payment.
ReplyDeleteOops, I didn't realize I was on my friend's account. The comment from "Maria" was really from me!
ReplyDeleteSetlist:
ReplyDeleteMan if they don't do Fascination Street and End on the N. American gigs I am going to be disappointed!!! Neither were done on 90% of the Euro gigs.
Craig use your pull with RS to get him to play these AWESOME tunes in Vancouver LOL!
its the same like 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 ffffffffff
ReplyDeletec'mon guys do you think that you can find these items in wallmart, keymart, drugstore, marshall or in a gas station?....do you want everything free? if you don't have money you should work hard...i don't know what happen with the people, everybody want all free,45$ for a shirt it's to much...70$ for a concert it's to much...2.99$ for a single it's to much...but everybody spend 300$ for a prostitute and it's ok...c'mon guys think about it...
ReplyDelete$45 for a shirt.
ReplyDeleteThat's utterly ridiculous.
"ram", if you don't see a problem with that, then I suppose you are just a better person than I.
They don't even look very good. The designs are obnoxiously big.
ReplyDeletewell, i'll be obvious and say, looks like the setlist so far is the same as 99% of the euro shows. so it looks like, unless some weird bug hits and they decide to start playing different stuff, i'll be hearing this same setlist on 5.31.
ReplyDeletenot that i'm completely complaining. i haven't seen them in 8 years. i'll be pretty happy just to be there. but i was hoping for a bit of a shakeup.
Btw, Craig, it's so good to have you and the best Cure site ever back and in top form. You rock!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. This is fun! Just wish I was there.
ReplyDeletehi tom i don't believe that i better person than you or any person...but i think the people spend day after day a lot monet for cigarrets,beers,etc...it's once every four year that the cure coming with a new album.do you what i mean?...you don't spend your money for a shirt of rap singer..it's the cure(ours Good)the cure it's Art...i am a poor guy however i pay anything for any item from the cure...
ReplyDeleteThe Perfect Boy?
ReplyDeleteThe Percet Girl?
The Perfect Couple?
At least a new song !!! :D
yeahhhhhhhhh thank god a new one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteRam, $45 is a ridiculous amount of money to pay for a tee-shirt, and, yes, you can find these items outside of the concert venue. I work hard but with gas now $4/gallon I think I'll save my money.
ReplyDeleteTerrific coverage, Craig!!!

ReplyDeleteThe tee-shirts are half the price on the official site.
ReplyDeleteJPX - This is nothing. They still have an hour left. : )
ReplyDeleteWorth every sent I paid for those tickets!!! Unbelievable. I was worried that by having an opening band they would play less, but that doesn't seem to be the case at all!
ReplyDeletewow- shake dog shake. right on.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic set list!
ReplyDeletethis is a pretty okay setlist! but i'm expecting MIND-BLOWING at the last show. i really want some surprises.
ReplyDeleteActually, JPX, no, they're not at half price on the official site. Those are British pounds.
ReplyDeleteOh, and the setlist? I'm unimpressed. They've had more than a month to rehearse, and this is what they present to us? Come on, man. Here's what I'd like to hear that they haven't played...
Other Voices
All Cats Are Grey
Faith (they'll probably get around to this one at some point)
Charlotte Sometimes
Siamese Twins
The Figurehead
Give Me It (I don't see this one showing up)
The Blood (ditto)
The Baby Screams
Sinking
The Kiss

If Only Tonight We Could Sleep
The Snake Pit (extremely doubtful)
How Beautiful You Are
Shiver and Shake
Untitled (this barely had encore status when it first came out, so definitely not going to happen)
Open
Doing the Unstuck
Trust (no keyboards, so not happening)
End
The Big Hand (they've played it since Porl's come back, so it's not unreasonable)
Want
Mint Car
Pretty much anything from Bloodflowers
Lost
Labyrinth
Going Nowhere
That's about it. I'd be happy if 1/3 of those end up getting played before the end of the tour.
Note: I was referring to songs that either weren't played at this show, or were hardly touched in Europe, ie. Faith, which was played once.

ReplyDeleteyes, i can't afford a t-shirt because i'm too busy throwing my money at hookers.
ReplyDeletethe setlist is kind of yawn-inducing, but a few good surprises thrown in there.
i thought these shows were gonna be totally reworked to compensate for the canceled - i'm sorry, POSTPONED- tour.
yes, i'm complaining... but i don't understand why robert can't throw in more bloodflowers stuff and faith-y/porno-y surprises.
what gives, roberto?
all the same, i'm looking forward to the gigs! doh!

ReplyDeleteI agree, "unimpressed" is a good way of putting it. Gaping holes in the set list IMO. The following songs are great live and are missing:
Fascination Street
End
Open
The Blood
Want
If Only Tonight ...
The Kiss
AND I second the motion of having Robert finally doing "Burn" live!
I consider it one of my Top 10 Cure songs.

ReplyDeleteCraig, your coverage of yesterday´s show was amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations for you !!!!!!
I really feel myself inside that venue.
It was the best way to spend a friday´s night.
Keep on rockin´ man !!!, just 26 shows more to come.
Best Wishes for you from Mexico City.
