Robert asks a question

AMISTILLHERE?
Guessing he might have something to say soon. :) And we can hopefully end the nonsense and get some real, official word on these shows.

Update (Jan. 28th, 2013): Now changed to AREWESTILLHERE? And added the new promo shot by Andy Vella.

And now changed again to THE MOMENT HAS ARRIVED! with the details of the LatAm tour.

Rumor: South America in April/May

(Ad for The Cure in Lima, Peru on April 17th at National Stadium. Is it real? We should know soon. Thanks Jorge)

The latest nonsense from South America comes from this article (English) which now says those "confirmed" & "locked in" Cure shows in April, are now going to be in May. IF this article can be trusted.
Once again, and I know I'm a broken record on this, but no shows have been officially announced, and until you see it on the Cure's official website, Facebook, or Twitter, no matter what the media & promoters swear to, it is not confirmed.
(Thanks @Pjotrke)

And just to make it all the more comical, this article (English) is sticking with the April dates, and claiming an announcement will be made on Saturday (Jan. 19th). (Thanks Moisés)

Update (Jan. 25th, 2013):  2 new articles, from Popload (English) and Cancha General (English), are now claiming that the official announcement will be made on Saturday or Monday at the latest. Keep in mind that this will be the 3rd time that this announcement was supposed to be made, so be optimistic, but don't hold your breath. The articles claim the delay in announcing the tour are due to the band adding more dates to the tour. Instead of just playing in Argentina, Brazil, and Chile, the article claims that shows have been added in Peru, Colombia, and Paraguay. Is any of this actually true? Guess we'll find out on Monday. (Thanks Perfect.Murder and @biva77)

And now this article (English) says the announcement of the show in Chile will happen on Jan. 29th at the Hard Rock Cafe in Santiago. (Thanks Mad Bob RJS)

Update (Jan. 26th, 2013): This article says The Cure are confirmed for Bogota, Colombia on April 19th. And here's a TV report about that. Popload runs down what they know, what they think they know, and what they hope they know. (Thanks @biva77, @Lilialoman)

New interview with Lol

Part 1 of a new interview with Lol from "It's a Strange World...with Frank Cronogue" has been posted here.

Update (Jan. 21st, 2013): And here at long last is part 2 of the interview. In it, Lol mentions that Robert told him that the 'Reflections' DVD would be out by Christmas. Obviously, that didn't happen.

Update (Jan. 23rd, 2013):Lol posted this note to clarify what he said about the 'Reflections' DVD possibly coming out last Christmas - "We had to use Skype for the recent interview I did for "Its A Strange World With Frank Cronogue" as I live in Los Angeles and Frank's in London. Unfortunately ( as you can probably hear) it sometimes mangles words or dips them out entirely.
So when Frank asked me about the release of A DVD of The Reflections show the crucial word in my answer got mangled a bit ! So, in my reply with regards to a DVD release "Robert wrote to me recently and he said is HOPING by Christmas this year" The crucial word here is "hoping" but I realize you have to listen hard to catch that! .Sorry for any confusion! Of course when it is actually released you will find out first from www.thecure.com."

Penelope Farmer and The Cure

Penelope Farmer (author of Charlotte Sometimes) recounts her dealings and meeting with The Cure.
Part 1 - The Cure(d)
Part 2 - The Cure(d): Robert Smith For Ever...
(Thanks Lisa)

Note: This was first posted way back on May 8th, 2008, but as it has come up again today, via BBC 6 Music and Marc Gascoigne, I thought it was worth a repost.
(Thanks Chris, @ghostfinder, and @moggieboy)

Update: You can listen to the show that Penelope Farmer attend (Earl's Court, London on May 31st, 1996) here. (Thanks pvox)

Speculation & rumors: Mexico edition

"More rumours, today some newspaper published that The Cure could be the major act in this year's edition of Cumbre Tajín Mexico. The next day, 16th January the line-up & date will be revealed." (Thanks Jorge and @IvanGallardo34)

This one really seems like nothing more than speculation, but at least we don't have long to wait and see if there's any truth to it.

Update: And to no one's surprise, the announcements have been, and no Cure.

The Cure in the NY Times Crossword Puzzle

From the NY Times Crossword Puzzle for Sunday, Jan. 13th, 2013:

And it got a mention at the Wordplay blog, too.

Here was Reeves' reply to Peter: "i quit amicably bowie in 2000 when we finished "hours..." after 13 yrs . i am now a member of the cure. glad you enjoyed last summer's shows"

Do you own a copy of Five Swing Live?

"I have started a venture to try and discover where in the world the 5000 copies of FIVE SWING LIVE are located. A fun thing for me to do and maybe a bit of historical info for The Cure’s web site.

I am looking for the names of the owners (optional) and where they live and the NUMBER of their copy (with photo of CD cover if possible). I think this would be an interesting study to discover just where these have ended up and how? The diversity of Cure fans and all things Cure never ceases to amaze me. I started yesterday and have received a few replies already and have been sent a couple of web sites that have provided me with emails or contacts of Cure fans with FSL CD." (Thanks Murray)

If you have a copy, or know someone who does, please let Murray know at murraymcwhirter(at)bigpond(dot)com. Thanks!

If you're looking to buy one, there are a few listed at Amazon Marketplace and ebay 1 - 2 - 3 - 4.
(Thanks Dayna, Paul, Aaron, and Autumn)

More Argentina rumors

I wasn't even going to mention this one, but I'm getting a bunch of emails asking about it. VOS and Telam are running articles today that say The Cure have confirmed the April 10th show at River Stadium in Argentina. Problem with these articles? They also claim that the dates/announcement are posted at the official site, and that Porl is in the current lineup. Not true. Again, don't believe a word of any of this until you see an official post from The Cure.

Update (Jan. 10th, 2013): Here's yet another article (English) about this, but at least this one has a sense of humor about it all. :) (Thanks David)

SummerCure #4 in Magic poll

"In the December issue of French music magazine Magic, which makes a retrospective of 2012, SummerCure was voted 4th best musical event of the year by Magic readers. Complete list is:
1. The split of The Girls
2. Pitchfork music Festival in Paris
3. Pulp at the Festival 'Les Inrocks'
4. The Cure tour
5. The coming back of Blur.
I could not find a web link for it, it seems to be only in the paper issue." (Thanks Sylvain)

Secret 7" 2013

The 2013 Secret 7" campaign has been revealed today, and while there's no Cure involvement this year (at least that we know of, it IS a secret after all, and there's a Nick Drake single...), it's still a very fun project and a great cause (Art Against Knives), so I hope they get lots of support.

This year you can design artwork for singles from Nick Drake, Elton John, HAIM, Jessie Ware, Laura Marling, Nas, and Public Enemy.

So check out the Secret 7" website, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, for more info on this year's project. Good luck if you're designing this year, and thanks again to the great team at Secret 7" for all of their hard work!
