Got mine from CDWOW on Saturday, May 29 ($20.99 including shipping from England!!!)
ReplyDeleteDave,
Burlington, VT
*bounce*
ReplyDeleteLol, there goes Kate again. I picture her posting comments while jumping on a trampoline to the beat of "The Walk." :) Which sounds entirely more fun than I'm having at work right now!
ReplyDeleteHeya, Todd!
ReplyDelete(*boing*)
@DaveVT - are you serious?
ReplyDeleteThe US site (cdwow.us) had my order on backorder, so I cancelled it.
Received mine from CD Wow on May 29 as well.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Jason! Pre-ordered it about two weeks in advance - that might be the problem. I emailed Craig about their sale price, so maybe too many U.S. fans tried to order it then, and they ran out. Otherwise, they are a great company to deal with - excellent prices, with free shipping to the States!
ReplyDelete@Dave,
ReplyDeleteYeah I normally don't have any problems with them, but the fact that they take your money first and then don't send out an email about it being on backorder is janky.
They did refund within 24 hours, however. Looks like I'll spend $2 more and get it on Amazon.
AKA music in Philly supposedly has it.
ReplyDeleteSteve: Any confirmation that they are selling it today?
ReplyDeleteI'm not at home to confirm this, but my Ideal Copy shipping tracker says my copy has arrived! Woohoo!!!
ReplyDeletegot the north american vers. from ideal copy in the mail today. shipped to pa
ReplyDeleteMy copy from Ideal Copy is out for delivery today too--shipped to Tennessee!
ReplyDeletejust got disintegration cd set from ideal copy! :)
ReplyDeletei haven't heard anything from ideal copy about my cd and lp, and i pre-ordered in january! :(
ReplyDelete*sofia*
ReplyDeleteMe, too. Although, last week, I requested a rolled, rather than folded, poster. They confirmed that request promptly. But, I have not received any notice regarding shipping. Do you think it is because we ordered delayed vinyl?
@sofia i'm sure it's on its way!
ReplyDelete@Kate i received no notice or anything. it just came.
ReplyDeleteI want my copy!!! :(
ReplyDeleteI'm crossing my fingers that my Ideal Copy package arrives today :D can't wait to finally hear it!!
ReplyDeletei received a shipping notice from ideal copy on friday afternoon. i also pre-ordered as soon as i read about the bonus item. my bonus item has yet to arrive, but that's ok. kind of crappy that they are inconsistent with their shipping notifications.
ReplyDeleteI went home and opened it up to give it a good hearty sample on my lunch break, and for the most part it sounds great!
ReplyDeleteOf course, I would get Disintegration on one of the hottest, sunniest days of the year thus far. :)
My copy from Ideal Copy also arrived today! It looks even better than I thought it would - sure it sounds great too! Hopefully the bonus poster arrives soon too.
ReplyDeleteSounds sooooo good. Hearing more definition on every instrument. Really cleared up the low mid-range.
ReplyDeleteGeeky as it is, I'd love to see the rest of the track sheets. Seeing how it was tracked is like seeing the frickin' shroud of turin to me.
Was it standard mail or ups...? I need to upload mine before I go to work, its not here yet!
ReplyDeletestandard mail.
ReplyDeleteGuess I have to listen to it when I get home, I work before the nail comes around here.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reply "J"
If it gets here in 20 min. maybe I can upload the demos to my Ipod before I go.
Mail, not nail
ReplyDeleteWhile it is wonderful that our customers are enjoying the Deluxe Disintegration, those shipments were targeted to arrive on release date June 8th. For once the postal service was too efficient, who'da thunk it?
ReplyDeleteRelease dates are important to the record industry and anything that gets sold early can irk the record labels, and we want to keep the labels happy. So, if anyone asks, just tell them that you are on Australian time....
Also, we send out emails with tracking information for all of our US shipments - if you haven't received an email, check your spam folder or tell your email server not to filter out idealcopy.com emails. gmail and hotmail tend to over do email filtering.
And if you ordered the 3CD and the vinyl, both will ship together, unless you paid extra shipping fees for a split shipment.
chris
PS Rolled posters ship this week
Are those of us who preordered from Ideal Copy before the $5 price drop still going to get any sort of refund?
ReplyDeleteNot related, but I just uploaded a Cure remix of mine, I added keyboards to "The Hungry Ghost" just for kicks
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHHH9jf2fyo
Regina - email us directly about this so we can follow up. But since others may have a similar question i will address it briefly here.
ReplyDeleteMost customers that paid with a credit card were charged the lower price because we didn't charge their cards until last week after the price drop.
Most customers that paid with paypal, which is an instant payment out of our control, have been applying their $5 credit towards getting the pre-order bonus promo Disintegration poster sent to them rolled instead of folded. (the posters are Free and will be included folded with orders unless customers prefer to have them sent rolled, which is $5 extra to cover poster tube and postage in the U.S. since it's a separate shipment). If you'd prefer the $5 to be credited to you another way, please contact us directly by replying to your order confirmation email.
No matter what - we'll get everything sorted out so customers are happy.
cheers!
@ ideal copy- sorry, I think my comment about receipt was from future J and not present J, because I'm sitting here waiting for my copy to come. Future J must be listening to his Deluxe copy on Tuesday and loves it sooo much that his enthusiasm was sent back in time.... Somewhere Einstein is getting a telegram about how I got my copy of Disintegration.
ReplyDelete@ Ideal Copy -
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update. I look forward to receiving my CD and LP soon! :)
I am content to wait for the LP...
ReplyDeleteHopefully, I will receive my second ordered CD tomorrow or Wednesday! :)
just an update on where to get it and prices - i got my newbury comics newsletter for the week showing new releases, says the 3cd of disintegration will now be $17.99
ReplyDeletealso, i checked my spam and everything, definitely never got a shipping email? but it has arrived, so i don't really mind :)
ReplyDeletebut chris has done a great job of keeping in contact, since i had a few questions about my order earlier on.
M called and told me my copy is at home. after work a glass of red wine, dim the lights and Disintegration Deluxe.
ReplyDeleteGot mine from Ideal Copy today!!! Super excited!
ReplyDeleteHope mine arrives tomorrow :D So psyched for it! Also thanks for the info ideal copy, very useful :)
ReplyDeleteGot my copy from Ideal Copy today! Looks great from what Ive looked at and listened to so far. No bonus stuff though. :(

ReplyDeleteAs usual, I did not preorder this CD because I have a billion other things to do that I forgot (I can’t even post on here like I used too) and I always say it will be in the stores the day it is released. Yeah right, I’ve got to stop thinking that!!! Not sure about anywhere else but at least where I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia the stores that still carry CD’s really suck!
ReplyDeleteI called 5 stores already and none of them have it??? Like WTF??? One store said they had trouble ordering it, another said they will not be carrying it since no one listens to old 80’s music (News to me pal, are you saying The Cure that obscure nowadays? ) and a few are Out of Stock already (Did you only order one or two copies?).
All of these stores I went to are chains and there are no independent music stores near to where I live so I'll be ordering it today on-line. It will be a few days before I get it but I’ll have it soon. Already heard some demo tracks so I know it will be worth the wait. Next time, I’ll know and preorder it on-line before it goes on sale!!! No more of this shit for me.
Heading to the Newbury Comics down the street at 10 AM! At $17.99 I think I'll buy two. They usually have posters too if you ask.
ReplyDeleteGeeb: Let us know if they have the posters. Thanks!
ReplyDeletestruck out on posters :( but picked up two copies for $17.99 a piece.
ReplyDelete@cure_kitty did you try any Barnes and Noble or Borders? They tend to have better selection than a music retailer, sad to say.
ReplyDeleteHey J,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info, I forgot to check them out. I went to the local B&N and Borders near my office during my lunch break & they were both sold out already. Well that's good to see, people are buying it. They only had a few copies but will be getting some more in later this week.
However, I did find it on-line at the local Best Buy and I reserved a copy to pick up after work!!! I Hate Best Buy but I really want the CD now, so I'll have to get it there. Hurray I'll be listening to it tonight!!!
Best Buy in Colorado Springs has it for $39.99. Yikes! I thought big box retailers were supposed to sell stuff like this really cheap and drive the indie stores out of business. I'm glad to see Newbury selling it for $17.99... if only they could drive Best Buy out of business!
ReplyDelete@Don,
ReplyDeleteBest Buy online has it for $25.99, so I'm sure you can price match their online price.
Or just buy it on the website and choose in store pickup.
ReplyDeleteAnybody order from Amazon?
ReplyDeleteI called the Exclusive Company in Milwaukee (on Farwell). The clerk said the store had sold all of its copies already. I'm not sure how many "all" is. The price was $29.99. I'm not worried, as I had pre-ordered from Rhino. I hope it's in my mailbox when I get home.
ReplyDeleteSo no one around here (Rochester, mn) has the deluxe edition in. So I called barnes and noble and if I order it there and pre pay for it, it's only 17.49 shipped to my house. So another option for people.
ReplyDeleteFor those ordering from B&N, use coupon code H9M4X4X for 15% off. Just tried it.. it works.
ReplyDeleteTotal shipped (in CA) is $19.40.
Thanks, guys. Also note that it looks like you can order it at the online price from B&N, then go pick it up at a local store (if it's in stock) if you want it today.
ReplyDeleteHmm, maybe not. I think it has to be shipped to get the lower price.
ReplyDeleteAlso if you go to B&N through FatWallet's link (and you're a FW member - it's free), you can get an additiona 4% off.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.fatwallet.com/coupons-cash-back/?starts-with=B
Just got mine at Bull Moose Music, on sale for $22.97.
ReplyDeleteKenna
Portland, ME
HMV in Canada is selling the deluxe set for the not great price of $38.99. My amazon.ca copy has just shipped. My UK import has not.
ReplyDeleteordered through Rhino, nothing yet, no email either
ReplyDeleteyou'd think that by pre-ordering through rhino, they'd at least have shipped them out on the release date.
ReplyDeletebut i'm not surprised in the least.
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. Barnes and Noble just shipped out their pre-orders today, so it looks like anyone, including myself, who ordered from them will have to wait a few more days! Damnit! On the other hand, I just called B&N, and mentioned to them that I had pre-ordered at the price of 24.44, and it is now listed for 17.49. They checked into it, and are issuing me a credit for the 6.95 to the order. So yeah, they will give you the special low price if you call. Hope you all are enjoying your new Disintegration!
ReplyDeletei coulda bought two at barnes and noble for the price i got mine!
ReplyDeleteYAY got my ideal copy cd today, heading to my room to lock my self in and absorb x)
ReplyDeleteRhino is torturing me, I ran all the way home today for nothing... makes me wish I had kept my amazon order; is a sampler worth waiting longer? XD
ReplyDeleteLia, I pre-ordered with Rhino too. I wanted the sampler for completism's sake, but it's hardly essential. I agree with you and other commenters that it's ridiculous that the Rhino people don't have their copies yet. I pre-ordered something from Merge Records, something that was officially released today, and I received it in the mail on Saturday. Who's flourishing (or at least staying afloat) in this economy record company-wise? Smaller labels. Big Baby Huey labels like Rhino need to take their cue from the smarter, faster little guys.
ReplyDeleteso do vinyl purchases not count towards this week's charts since they're next week?
ReplyDelete@Don, the funny thing is Rhino was one of those labels not too long ago. Like, Rykodisc, Rhino started in the late 80's catering to a niche market. Rhino was a novelty label, a lot like TVT. Rhino and Rykodisc got swallowed up by Warner and TVT all but disappeared because Universal (surprised?) paid Ja Rule $8million not to release an album funded by and promised to TVT. TVT sued, won, lost in appeal, was counter-sued and basically destroyed by the monolithic Universal. Any small record "label" that wants to distribute a physical product to retailers will eventually succumb to one of the uber-companies. Mom and Pop labels can only survive by direct product fulfillment. They are small enough to have quality control.
ReplyDeleteThe whole idea behind keeping the Rhino name is that they can operate their niche while benefiting from the funding and distribution of "the big guys," but that by default puts them at the mercy of their benefactors. The end result is not only do artists like the Cure (who are on a "pretend" independent label that's subject to the whim of Universal) get screwed, but their fans get screwed by corporate indifference.
End semi-coherent rant.
also @don... Baby Huey... love it, perfect description!
ReplyDeleteI just picked up a copy at Newbury Comics (in store) for $17.99. That is the good news...but if I can rant for a minute, I am really disappointed in RS's remix of Entreat. While the overall sound quality/resolution is louder (compression/bit rate changes) his "reinterpretation" of Boris's drums is dismal and in my opinion, ruins what should have been a true live time capsule of The Cure in 1989. I'm not trying to and will not get into a Jason verses Boris comparison - it's been discussed already a million times for years. However, it's one thing to improve the quality of the recording, but changing the sound to basically reflect the more recent/current Cure is just wrong. Leave that for the new music with the current line up. But don't go and "update" something that was how the Cure sounded in 1989...anyway, sorry to go on because I am really happy like everyone else on this blog about the release of this remaster. I just needed to add my two cents...
ReplyDeleteOff Topic:
ReplyDeleteSlicing up Eyeballs used my write up on "Fascination Street" in its Disintegration Favourite Song rankings story.
@mikeyg- I agree. Porl's guitar is (for the most part) lower in the mix as well. The song Disintegration is probably the most revealing in the differences.
ReplyDeleteI understand the need to mix again if the added four songs weren't mixed originally... however, I think the drums sound pretty weak throughout.
Maybe it sounded great in Robert's home studio but didn't translate well outside of it? That has been the downfall of many bedroom mixes.
However, if Robert was mixing out of his own pocket (which I'd bet he was... see my above rant)- and didn't have the budget to mix in a high end studio, then we have what we have. If we had never heard the original Entreat we would probably love it.
yep, the drums sound like sh*t now in Entreat...
ReplyDeleteJ. - Yer right. I had forgotten that Rhino actually used to be a smaller affair.
ReplyDeleteyay! i was at b&n earlier and they wanted full price at the store...now i just ordered online for more than half off. sweet!
ReplyDeleteWhile we're discussing how shitty Entreat sounds, here's what I wrote about it elsewhere:
ReplyDeletePictures of You: Simon's bass is so clearly present in the original that you can hear the vibration of the strings, for god's sake.. you can't hear shit in the remix.
Closedown: in the original, there's some cool left/right stereo drum action going on.. it's all nearly center in the remix. fffuuuuu... and Simon's bass buried in the mix..
Last Dance: "..woman was only a girl, girl, girl" - added echo
Fascination Street: this song clearly highlights what I'm talking about with separation of instruments. In the original: Simon's bass grinds in the center, Boris' drumsticks clearly fill your left/right channel while the kickdrum and snare are right up there in your face.. at the break, guitar in the left channel and simon in the middle. you can hear the vibrating of simon's bass so distinctly, and even hear him slide up and down the neck. in the remix it's all muddied in the middle.. ugh.
Prayers for Rain: Robert removed some echo mid-way through his extended "rrrrraaaaaaaiiiiiiiinnnnnn...."..
Disintegration: some extra echo effects on the guitar intro; some added echo on the keyboard right before the 1st verse and between each verse; more echo added "how the end always is.."
Homesick: some weird effects on the intro piano - sounds like ass; the crowd is buried in the mix (screams aren't as prominent); drums lost their punch; acoustic guitar is buried in the mix; the Fender Bass VI on the intro has more effect on it; way too much bottom end throughout
Untitled: very little remixing on this, and you can tell. it sounds much different from the rest of the album.. very true to the original. differences: crowd at the beginning is more muted; there's more bottom end; the drums don't have quite an impact like they do on the original; a slight echo on the Fender Bass VI near the end; and the added classic Robert "q" at the end..
Lindsey: No, vinyl orders will not count until the second week.

ReplyDelete@slowdiver,
ReplyDeletetotally agree! even though there are a ton of complaints about Entreat, at the very least we get the entire album, and maybe it's not perfect, but it's still absolutely brilliant that it's all there... you can listen all the way through demos to the live recordings, and with such a beautiful, rich, un-beatable album, I'm finding it very hard to be too picky :P plus, the remastering was done so well (at least to someone whos not an audiophile) that it pretty much can cancel everything else out, cause Disintegration deserves this kind of treatment and it sounds fantastic now :)
Like many others here I ordered my copy through CD Wow but had no idea it would be sent out much sooner than the actual N.A. release date. Had I known this I probably would have ordered it much sooner! Looks like it'll be at least another few days til it arrives.
ReplyDeleteI hate to admit this, but ever since the release of 4:13 Dream I've given up on trying to locate any of the latest Cure releases in a brick-and-mortar store. After several fruitless attempts to locate the last album at a physical store I ended up having to resort to buying it on Amazon. The last time a Cure album was readily available at a
B&M store was when self-titled came out. I clearly recall walking into the local (now-defunct) Tower Records and seeing the self-titled album prominently displayed near the entrance. It's a crying shame that The Cure's latest releases are no longer given the same level of exposure at B&M's. I may be wrong but despite the proliferation of online merchants there seems to be a direct correlation between album sales and availability at B&M's. Certainly it's more convenient to have the album arrive on my doorstep at the click of a mouse but it's not as rewarding.
Sorry for the rant...
I unfortunately ordered mine from RHINO. and I am still waiting…. I would have paid double to have gotten it sooner. I called and sent of a unhappy letter to Rhino and this is what I got in response…

8 - 10 days!!! Rhino sucks!!! Buyer beware. I am very very sad and last night I was very angry. :(
ReplyDeleteRe: the poor remix of Entreat. It's just a bad remix, right? I'm not familiar with the original Entreat, so I can't compare. It almost sounds like some of you are alleging that certain parts of the original recording (the drums, in particular) were actually REPLACED with different parts. That's not the case, is it?
ReplyDeleteoh damn, i thought it was next week.
ReplyDeletedoes best buy have it?
Looks like the Barnes & Noble price drop was a one day deal. Back to $24.99 now.
ReplyDelete@Don, I'm sure it's just a remix... I don't think anything has been replaced, but it's been processed differently.
ReplyDeleteregarding the Entreat mix, to me it sounds like it was just run through alot of hiss reduction, this will change the sounds, especially snare sounds significantly, also it will alter the crowd noise as well, It seems like he tried to make it too clean, I dont think he was trying to make the drums sound like Jason Coopers sound, that seems a little too diabolical, I did hear that Robert Smith is behind the oil spill and that he blew up the levees during Katrina
ReplyDeleteEntreat's Homesick sounds different to me in the respect that the keyboards in the middle/end of the song (organ, specifically) seem to be turned WAAAAAY up.
ReplyDeleteI think people are just complaining for the sake of complaining. If you like the original Entreat so much, then listen to that!
ReplyDeletehalo eighteen, Agreed, after this release dies down all we'll see are posts complaining that there is nothing new. I would like new stuff too, but these men have lives and families and I'm happy for everything they put out even if it's every 4 years
ReplyDeletelol @ "I think people are just complaining for the sake of complaining. If you like the original Entreat so much, then listen to that!"
ReplyDeleteseriously.. why would i even bother writing all that if all I like to do is complain? don't be silly.
there is such an obvious difference between the 2009 remix of Entreat and the original, and I was calling attention to those differences and expressing my frustration at the changes.
@Don - it's just a remix, and definitely pick up the original. It's like night and day, sadly.
ENTREAT PLUS SUCKS!
ReplyDeleteAccording to this video, cholesterol is badly affecting his mind!
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xdigl2_disintegration-deluxe-download-3cds_webcam
I see there was alot of responses regarding my first post about the Entreat remix. I agree some people complain just to complain. That was not my intention. I was not complaining. I think some folks made valid points. For those that it makes no difference about the obvious change in sound, great - I'm happy that you are enjoying the disc. I guess I would just like to know RS's true rationale for doing this. The remix changed the live sound of the concert as it was played in 1989. Even if he (RS) decided that looking back, he wished it sounded then the way he remixed it to sound now, well, for a live recording - it is what it is. Why try and update it? Anyway, I've said my peace on this issue. As others alluded to, I will be happy enjoying the original Entreat. If the updated version brings new listens and fans, then that's good too....
ReplyDeleteDear Craig,
ReplyDeleteWhen I had previously checked the Borders website, they listed that the CD was not going to be available in stores.
Well, today I found ONE copy at Borders (east coast US), priced at $34.99. I had a 25% off coupon, which brought down the cost to $26.24.
I don't know if it can be used by others, but this was my coupon link:
http://www.bordersmedia.com/coup/jw2sl25.html
I presume that "Borders Rewards" members received this promotion, good through midnight tonight (6/9).
-Kate
Got it on release day from Best Buy for 25.99. I think they only got 2 copies in, as they were still on the cart, not the shelf. All the other Best Buys in town didn't even get it. Rasputin may have got it, but I knew bb had a couple copies so i just went there!
ReplyDeleteLove Delirious Night and Pirate Ships.. I've never heard them. Robert's voice is it's mellowest on Pirate Ships.
On Delirious I hear a bit of Beatles (tomorrow never knows repetitive drumline, influence) And maybe some Bunnymen and a lot of Curry ? Never heard a Cure song like it, love it!
I think I like the guide vocal version of Lullaby better than the original! :)
The album Remaster sounds great.
Had to do a back to back comparison of Plainsong though to make sure :)
Almost took me back to 1989 and hearing Disintegration for the first time, almost.
The Entreat remaster sounded fine after I turned the Bass/treble/mid levels down to center, in my car. Nice to have the whole album live on one disc finally.
Finally! Enjoy!
Seriously, if you think the Entreat remix is decent then you have never heard the original album or your hearing needs to be immediately examined.
ReplyDeleteOh my heck I've never noticed how Simon's bass goes into a higher register in the last section of "Last Dance" until listening to the remaster. Gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteregarding Entreat Plus - Those who don't know what the fuss is all about have obviously not heard the original Entreat.
ReplyDeleteIt was a stunning record of how The Cure sounded in concert in 1989/1990.Considering it was a live recording, the clarity of the original is amazing and in a lot of fans opinions it is was a better record of the Disintegration album (albeit missing 4 tracks) than the studio album. I for one have listened to it more over the years than I have the original studio album.
The despair that fans like me are showing at the moment is because, when it was announced we were to get that stunning recording but now with the extra "missing" tracks, it was massively exciting.
However what we have is a butchered version of the orignal Entreat with the extra tracks. The clarity is gone. The majestic live sound that Entreat demonstrated of a band at the peak of its live powers, has been erased
It is shameful, and how anyone with half a brain can think this is acceptable is beyond me. I seriosly despair for Robert's hearing. To go back to the original and butcher it like this and think it's better is just flabbergasting. Robert Smith has done a botched job on Entreat Plus and no professional musician or studio engineer or producer would consider Entreat Plus a better remix than Entreat in a million years.
Craig,
ReplyDeleteAnother Borders stores update: the website now lists the record as being available in stores and online. Looks like the online price is $32.39.
They have a nifty 'reserve in store' function, too.
I was checking my bank account online this morning and saw this:
ReplyDelete"06/09/2010 Pending PreAuthorization RHINO.COM STORE." Rhino is processing my order the day AFTER the album was released! As I said in an earlier post, when I've pre-ordered from labels like Merge and Matador, the item that I ordered arrived in my mailbox on the Friday or Saturday before the Tuesday street date. Grrr!

ReplyDeleteSlowdiver, you have missed the point completely, either deliberately because you are a sychophant, or by mistake because you are not very intelligent.
ReplyDeleteAny reasonable person would expect that an original album remixed with with extra bonus tracks is going to sound BETTER than the original..otherwise what's the bloody point in doing it ?! Thats why me and many many other fans are annoyed about this.
Saying they are different albums so why should they sound the same is nonsense. They are both called Entreat...with the "plus" addendum added to the title for the new abomination...but it's the same concert recording ! It's not like it was from another concert on the tour !
He has tinkered with the bands prayer tour sound and Entreat Plus does not represent the of the band that played in 1989...Entreat does.
I suggest that you are the one that needs to get a life, and stop trying to live your own vicariously through Robert Smith

ReplyDeleteWow, um ok.
ReplyDeleteIt's a new mix, it's different sounding, we have the original. Is the new mix bad, imo no. Is the original better? Well it IS the original right? We have both. He had to remix it because the plus tracks weren't mixed.
I'm glad it has all the tracks and that it is different. It sounds more powerful to me. The audience is definitely edited out, which takes away from the live feel though. Again I have both so I don't really see the issue.
Can't wait for Wish! That one definitely needs to be turned up and with more space. I wanna hear porl more, it is his shinning moment and he deserves all the glory, such a unique guitarist!
I feel like we are all in kindergarten and it's time to roll out the nap mats, oh my god, does this really impact your life? This sounds like the Star Wars freaks when Greedo shot first. listen to the original if you dont like the new one, it's not like the remix came out and the originals dont work all of the sudden. Some of these people act like Timbaland remixed it
ReplyDeleteCraig, whilst I agree with deleting personal insults if someone isn't mature enough to argue a point succesfully enough without having to resort to them..I am a little disappointed that I have nothing to react to other than the mundane comeback that i'm left with...
ReplyDeleteSlowdiver, if you had bothered to check you would see I made two posts on this subject...quite a few less than 20
Guess you liked the new vocals that were marked as old guide vocals, on blue sunshine too eh ?

ReplyDeleteSo Keith, I erased all my old posts so you and I can start fresh right now. Isn't that splendid!! Just you and me brother!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteSo, first question...
If you felt so betrayed and let down by the supposed fake guide vocals on Blue Sunshine, then why did you even bother buying Disintegration Deluxe????????? This is an excellent question and it deserves an excellent answer in light of you accusing me of being a sycophant!! And don't give me some bullshit answer like "I buy everything that comes out by the Cure because I'm a big fan." That would make you, well, a sycophant.
You dumbass....
yup
ReplyDeleteOk you guys need to meet at the oak tree after school and sort it out! :D
ReplyDeleteWere the vocals on Blue sunshine really new? Craig you know?
Either way it was great to hear robert singing those songs, but to pretend it was back in 83 doesn't seem like him...

FYI for folks in New England, some of the Newbury Comics locations do indeed have the posters. E.G. the Natick location still has about 10 or 12 posters left and they are rolled, not folded. In fact when I got mine there they gave me 2 extra posters because a couple previous purchasers didn't want them. If anybody wants them I'm happy to mail them for the price of the postage.
ReplyDeleteBy the way here's a little secret for people ordering it from Borders: if you go to a Borders brick-and-mortar that doesn't have it in stock, you can order it in the store, for delivery to your home, and not have to pay any shipping charge! It's a policy they don't publicize but they do it, and if you combine that with their Borders Rewards coupon discounts, it's significantly cheaper.
ReplyDeleteSlowdiver...there you go with the insults again...what is with you, can't you articulate yourself properly without having to resort to name calling ? It really does feel like being back in the playground..yawn
ReplyDeleteAnyway....I bought Disintegration Deluxe primarily because of Entreat Plus...as I said previously the prospect of having such an amazing live recording of all of the Disintegration tracks was mouth watering...but alas we know what happened to that prospect....
I love the studio album too, so to have it remastered, which is done very nicely, was the other reason for buying it. And let me say I'm delighted to have it, I just wont be listening to disc three
Is that an excellent enough answer for you ?
Whether you like it or not, the guide vocals on blue sunshine were new..Steve Severin admitted as much on his website...
Some people are saying the guide vocals on the extras discs of Disintegration are new too..but i'm not sure about that.
Fair enough Keith. Have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it evident for any REAL Cure fan that those "Guide vocals" in the extra disc of Disintegration ARE NEW?
ReplyDeleteI noticed that, and the crazy video I mentioned before also says it!
It's been discussed in a forum too.
ROBERT DID A HORRIBLE JOB ON DISINTEGRATION DELUXE!
Entreat Plus sucks and so his fake "guide vocals"...!
I know some people (quite passionately) are not loving the mix on ENTREAT PLUS. What do people think of the mix on the Dallas show playing at the DISINTEGRATION microsite? Does it sound like the original ENTREAT? Or more like ENTREAT PLUS? I'm not an audiophile, but I thought it might be an interesting point to debate (to CIVILLY debate). Please, no rage-aholics, no keyboard courage, no exclamation points, and no ridiculously over-the-top insults.
ReplyDeleteTwilightKlass: All i can tell you is that Robert has said the vocals weren't new, and this is what Steve Severin said about it, back in Aug. 2006:
ReplyDelete"All the vocals on CD2 are from 1983. I admit it is a bit confusing calling them "RS vocal demo" but this is how it worked.....
All the Glove tracks were written in the studio (bar PMWK) so the music you hear isn't a demo per se, it's a rough mix of the final thing. Lyrics were written at different times in the procedings so whenever they were, Robert would do a "guide vocal'. That explains why some tracks are more developed than others. For instance, I hadn't written the bass parts for "LAA" when RS did the guide but the strings had been put on ORGY before he sang. Does that make sense?
We could only find these versions on cassette and Robert did some extensive "soundsoap" work on them going as far as stripping out the vocal, treating it and adding it back in. We've obviously done a good job because so many people think it's all new!
Whateverrrrrrrrrrrr.............it's 16 new tracks....you would think most fans would be leaping for joy, wouldn't you?"
But that didn't stop all of the crazy conspiracy theories back then, and I doubt it will stop them now.
I also hear that Robert was spotted On the Deepwater Horizon rig before it blew. Maybe he had something to do with it?
ReplyDeleteThere has been confirmation that Robert is secretly working deep inside the Obama administration experimenting with new ways to turn us all into communists through music.
And last but not least, there is new news that the Robert Smith we have always known and loved has never really existed. It's all been mind control experiments directed by the US government. The Cure was developed by the Reagan administration to study the effects of black eyeliner on the common male. They thought, at the time, that goth boys and girls might be a more effective killing machine along with the use of the music of the cure.
Just saying.
Thanks Craig! Interesting, sounds like a lot of work to get that wonderful disc to us. thanks Steve and Robert.
ReplyDeleteFinal Entreat plus comment ha!
Maybe just for people that are enjoying it...play with your equalizer until you get the sound you like. It is bass heavy for me the way it's recorded. I just slid it all down a bit past center and it's sounding good to me.
I'm sorry Craig, but the fact is that all the vocals on disc 2 of the Glove remaster are new. it's so obvious i can't believe somebody think they're really from 1983. Robert and Steven were simply lying.
ReplyDeletemost of the "guide vocals" on the remasters are new, from THOTD to Disintegration. it's particoularly evident on KMKMKM.
oh, and i also personally don't like the new Entreat remix. killed the recordings, such a shame considering how excellent the mixes of the old Entreat were...
the Dallas show is mixed much better.
and i would have released the second rarities cd available on the microsite instead of the one we got on the actual cd. those WIP mixes are great, can't believe he didn't put at least 2 Late on the remaster. that's the one thing i'm listening the most, actually made me cry when i first heard it.
That's fine if you believe that, but my problem with it is why would they lie about it? What do they have to gain from it? I mean, of all the things that they could lie about, why that?
ReplyDeletei don't know. it pisses me off immeasurably. i think Robert only had instrumentals and wanted to add some song with vocals. and he probabily fancied singing the Glove songs. he betrays himself a little on the Glove booklet when he says "...singing songs that stayed in a drawer for 23 years...all very strange...". this has been debated A LOT on MFC and most fans agree with me. to me it's absolutely obvious. Robert had a different voice back then. compare Mr Alphabet Says for example, the old and the new. you really can tell the "demo" is new.
ReplyDeleteon these remasters he's basically singing over rough instrumental mixes. another example is Close To Me. he did put up the original demo with guide vocals (no proper words) on the Greates Hits microsite in 2001, then when the HOTD remaster came out he added new vocals over THE SAME DEMO. so we get a version with words and a guide vocal together. he's really doing weird things on these remasters.
Oh, I see.
ReplyDelete...i just want my damn copy from rhino already...
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how much polarity these reissues have caused. I am still waiting for my copy from Rhino, unfortunately; they really did drop the ball on this one. Normally, I would have picked up the physical release at Twist & Shout here in Denver (which they had and which I held in my hands) but I wanted that 3x3x3 sampler from Rhino. It's been kind of a buzzkill knowing I could have all ready bought the record and had it in my house but holding off becos of my pre-order.
ReplyDeleteI still think the vocals on glove 2 are old, they sound pre-top/top era to me...just treated/mixed with new technology. He's singing like the madman he was around that time throwing his voice all over the place.
ReplyDeleteEither way though they are fucking awesome, and I feel lucky to be able to hear those songs with robert singing.
...anyone receive their copy from rhino yet?
ReplyDeletethis is beyond ridiculous
I haven't. The only people who seem to have received it from Rhino, were the one's who upgraded their shipping to 2 or 3 day delivery.
ReplyDeleteMy Barnes & Noble shipment went from DHL to the USPS, and has been in my city for 2 days and they haven't delivered it yet.
ReplyDeleteHeh...
ReplyDeleteI placed two pre-orders:
1) 3CD and 2LP from Ideal Copy. Knowingly delayed with the vinyl release on June 15.
2) 3CD from Rhino, release date of June 8. I have sent them e-mail messages requesting to cancel my order, and have not received any response. I have also not received any correspondence from them regarding shipment.
I have received neither order, yet. (Well, I am at work today, so it could be on my doorstep.)
Anyhoo, anyone want to place bets that the IDEAL COPY order will arrive before the RHINO order?! Hahahahah!
In any case, I will be returning the Rhino order.
