Update on Disintegration remastered set

Update 3: Uncut did not publish their review in this month's issue. (Thanks Keith)

Update 2:
Wired has a brief mention of the set in the April issue, and Uncut says they will have a review of it in their next issue. (Thanks Screamer, Heron, and Keith)

Update:
Pause & Play says the new release date is May 25th in North America. Will this be the date that actually sticks?
(Thanks Slicing Up Eyeballs)

"I spoke with someone the other day via the Rhino family and they don’t seem to have a new date in mind for the remaster…not sure what the hold up is and neither did they". (Thanks Friend of CoF)

And as previously mentioned, Universal has delayed it in Europe, and are now hoping for a late May release date.

  1. Sigh. This is so typical of any Cure release. My Cure formula is, "Whatever release date is given add 2 years to it". I'm certain that we won't be seeing that "dark album" until 2014 at the earliest.

  2. May I please give Universal/Rhino some very good advice?

  3. ^^
    haha

I don't allow myself to get excited about any Cure release until it's on the shelves somewhere in the world.

  4. we'll never see the 'dark album.' my guess is the disintegration master will be delayed til 2011.

  5. Record labels DO want to make money, don't they?

  6. 24th May on Amazon UK... I want it now :(

  7. I could never figure out why people delay such things as films and albums. I mean, it's done right? Obviously. So what the hell are we waiting for? The perfect release date to not conflict with other album releases off that particular label (we saw Harry Potter VI doing this as to not come out the same year as the Dark Knight)? Seriously, who's going to care in six months? Will it make THAT BIG of a deal? Does anyone even care anymore? Or is this some label scheme who ethics are still based back in the 1980's? Just get over it and release the damn thing already. Sheesh!

  9. I really hope the vinylversion will have a good quality. The 4:13 vinyl is total poor, even the recordshop exchanged my copy, but the new one was the same shit...This is something I get very angry of. The only sales which is having plus is vinylrecords nowadays, but for the higher price I pay, I wanna have best quality...

  10. agreed on the quality of the last LP. horrid. They should use mobile fidelity sound lab. One of the few audiophile recording labs left.

  11. MOFI has made a few clunkers in their time. No vinyl manufacturer is beyond reproach.

As I'd said in a previous comment, the amount of quality plants out there are few and far between.

Also with demand up, and people scrambling to get in the game, the number of experienced and qualified cutters is reduced as well.

You have to plan well ahead if you want to put a quality vinyl product out these days. For reissues, a lot of the labels have gone back to salvaging old stampers out of the archives to meet demand, rather than cutting new ones.

It's the wild west out there, and there are bound to be more bad results than good ones out there for the time being.

I hope that the delays are due to the vinyl production and that Bob is trying to get a good product out there.

The original pressing of Disintegration was disappointing on vinyl and needs the remaster more than the CD did. The fact that it will be a 2LP should help.

  12. There is a brief blurb in the April issue of Wired under the PLAY section, number 4, about the Disintegration 3-disc set...not sure if anyone else has mentioned it. Love that mag though!

    ReplyDelete
  13. What did it say? Can you type it up or scan it for us?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well if it comes out on the 25th May, it will be a birthday present for me. But it can not be delayed any further!

  15. This is getting borderline inexcusable.... but at the same time, The Cure/Rhino/Universal have NEVER stepped out with an official release date. It's always just been vendors and the press. So... I'm not believing anything until anything official comes out. Robert originally said Spring, and it's JUST NOW about to be officially Spring. So the countdown is on until mid-June...

  16. I would rather they get it perfect than rush it out. I don't mind waiting.

  17. Halo Eighteen: All of the release dates have been "official" dates given by Rhino/Universal. The retailers and media did not make them up. They can only go with what the labels tell them to expect.

    ReplyDelete
  18. well of course they were official dates given to distributors, but to be fair, the band itself never gave a date, and probably for this reason - it's not really "late" until spring has passed

  19. I am so happy PIRATE SHIPS is on it. So I would wait another year for that. I think its worth.

Disintegration Deluxe, Alice in Wonderland and the Moomins Movie were/are the highlights this year. Til now only Alice disappointed me completely (its not a burton at all). I will see what the Moomins will be.

But I am just be sure: This Deluxe Edition cannot disappoint me at all (except the quality of the vinyl maybe) I WOULD WAIT AS LONG AS IT TAKES.

  20. "Disintegration is the best album ever!!!" lol

  21. The 3cd remaster is reviewed in the next edition of Uncut magazine (according to the current edition)..so it must be at least finished...god knows what the release delay is all about

  22. Craig, here's the Wired Magazine mention from the April 2010 issue

  23. Heron: Thank you for the link.

Keith: Please let us know what they say, when you get that issue.

  24. There's a good chance that vinyl is holding things up. Vinyl takes ages longer than CDs to press, and can really cause problems if there are problems with the test pressing. RTI is another pressing plant that generally does good work. I'd love to have 2LP Disintegration on 180gm RTI vinyl!

  25. I just had a Jack&Coke and a horrid thought--what if all these delays are by design for the sake of
    publicity!?!

  26. New amazon product detail.

    CD Description
The release of Disintegration in 1989 saw The Cure returning to the introspective and atmospheric sound of their earlier albums, after the mid 80's foray into poppier territory. This 21st Anniversary Edition has been compiled and digitally remastered by frontman Robert Smith at The Soundmasters, London.

    * Disc One features the original album digitally remastered and contains the singles "Lullaby", "Lovesong", "Fascination Street" and "Pictures of You".
    * Disc Two contains 20 previously unreleased period rarities from 1988-1989, including Robert Smith home demos, band rehearsals and four previously unreleased songs: "Noheart", "Esten", "Delirious Night" and a cover version of Wendy Waldman-Parker’s "Pirate Ships".
    * Disc Three is the "Entreat" concert recorded live at Wembley Arena in 1989, which has been restored to its original running order of 12 songs with four previously unreleased live performances ("Plainsong", "Lovesong", "Lullaby" and the 10-minute epic "The Same Deep Water As You".
