Without You - 4:11
Anything at all, but you know I can't stop
It's life on the moon, all this talk of giving up
Life is too short, for it not to be true
The best idea I think, is for me to go my way
Anything at all, but don't want me to change
Hard to understand, when a plan is this strange
Life is too big, yeah, has to be true
The best idea I think, is for me to go my way
If all that you want, is how it could be
You may as well go now, there's no wait and see
Anything at all, but don't ask me to (be?)
You have to accept, I can't ever play safe
Life is too real, for it not to be true
The best idea I think, is for me to go my way
If all that you want, is how it could be
You may as well go, no, there's no wait and see
We'll always be wrong
If all I won't give, is all that you want
It's a strange way to live and let live
And all that you do, is measure me up, falling shorter than you
It's a strange way to love, (and be as/as big as? ) I want
Oh I know that you know, I can't fake, change, or stop
So anything at all, you know I won't choose
If all you could win, is all I would lose
When life is too right, yeah, has to be true
The best idea I think, is for me to go my way
(Whispered) Without you
(Thanks to V for putting this together with me)

Thank you again Craig.
ReplyDeleteBut I refuse to read it until after I hear the song! gaaah, so tempting though! Maybe I’ll just peek at a couple lines?
how come you have the lyrics to this one?? where did you hear it in its entirety??
ReplyDeleteIn a dream? : )
ReplyDeleteCarlos- didn't you know? Craig is like freakin' Jambi or something. He sees into the fuuutuuure... *makes mysterious wiggly fingers*
ReplyDeleteand he has great connections/sources apparently.
ooooh *figures*
ReplyDeleteHey Craig, I just had the same dream as you did! I think you and V nailed the lyrics.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love this song! It could have easily been an A-side instead of SWID.
Some were talking about the time sig, and it has a 6/8 feel.
Anything at all

This single was meant to be heard LOUD, Craiggers. So turn it up! [And behold the last whispered words.]
oh, you two...
ReplyDeleteTyler - I totally missed the whispered WITHOUT YOU at the end!

ReplyDeleteheard, and loved, them BOTH! sigh...
ReplyDeleteI love this song! It maybe gives a first little clue about how A boy I never knew studio version is going to sound like....
ReplyDeleteoh now I'm gonna be cranky all day because other people have heard them but I haven't.
ReplyDeleteum, I mean, uh YEAH yeah that's a good one... it, uh, reminds me of a Wild Mood Swings b-side... in a good way...
was that convincing enough?
Wow.. Such a beautiful song! I think the last 2 B-sides were better than all the A-sides I have heard so far (with the exception of "Underneath the Stars.")
ReplyDelete...i feel the lyrics to this song are sloppy and rambling and don't add up to much. i'll have to hear the song to make much more of a judgment than that.
ReplyDeleteI think these two songs are linked.
ReplyDeleteWithout you is the way the (un)perfect boy is thinking.
Maybe the A-side is for the girl, and the B-side is the boy's story.
Probably not.
Decent b-side this. Nothing special though. 6/10 I'd say. It just sounds uninspired. Maybe it'll grow on me.. The whispered "without you" in the end is pretty chilling though.. Nice ending to an otherwise so-so b-side.
ReplyDelete1) Down Under - 8+
2) NY Trip - 8
3) Without You - 6-
4) All Kinds of Stuff - 2
I know most of you lot love AKOS but it really stinks.. and it's not a grower either.
like it loads: maybe about an ex band member?
ReplyDeleteOh and I forgot:
ReplyDeleteMoontear...
(I love this song! It maybe gives a first little clue about how A boy I never knew studio version is going to sound like....)
^^
If the studio version of A Boy I Never Knew is going to sound like "Without You" I'm probably going to kill myself since it's the best song of the new bunch so far (haven't heard UTS). It would be a complete slaughter. It deserves to sound epic like it is and without you is in no way epic..
cured: AKOS stinks to YOU, but I freakin' love it. To me it's tied with DU as best b-side.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm getting really annoyed. How have some of you already heard the full versions of these songs???
What a fantastic little wonder this song is. It has the feel of the first breakup of a long relationship. Where one sees the signs and the other refuses and tries to tear you down to stay together.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love love love it!
product doesn't magically hit a stores shelves on Tuesday (normal release date in America). Product must be received, unpacked, and readied for stocking shelves.
ReplyDeleteIf you work at a "record store" and you have the new single in your hot little hand on Friday or Saturday before the Tuesday release... and you have a laptop computer... with a optical disc drive in it...
it's a digital age we live in, and data wants to be free.
all hail the internetwebitudes.
now go buy that single on Tuesday.
Absolutely love this song, been listening to it non-stop, as well as A Perfect Boy!! Both songs are fantastic, now let's hope Border's has it instock on Tuesday! Been lucky with the other 3 so far!
ReplyDelete*Is a straight-up bastard*
ReplyDeleteGood luck to anyone who wants to convince me Without You is anything short of brilliant. The way it starts is a bit less than it could be, but I'll be DAMNED if this isn't the best guitar Porl's put on a studio-version since since 1992.
The whispered "Without you" at the end tears me the fuck apart. Absolutely brilliant....
After listening a bunch of times, I have to say this could be the best b-side of the album, maybe topping down under. And I freaking love down under.
ReplyDeletegben: "listening a bunch of times"... but where, I ask, where? (and yes, I will by the single!)
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure I will meet you all on a tube at some point.
ReplyDeleteit will have to be a veeery big tube then...
ReplyDelete;)
Yes, it will be a big tube. A U-shaped tube so we can all fit comfortably.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeletei think is about an ex member, too.
ReplyDeletehm... i dont like it. it's forgettable. it doesnt sound lush, it sounds... poppy in an annoying way. the arrangement of the vocals and instruments are not working for me.
but i love the whisper at the end. :)
It isn't about Roger, I'm pretty sure of that. : )
ReplyDeleteNah, It's about a girl...it always is. : )
I only have listened a longer studio preview, and i love it so much so far.
ReplyDeleteI like a lot the RSx vocals, his acoustic guitar, the lyrics and the tune of the song.
Great b-side for me.
Can´t wait for the full track and the "Without You" at the end of the song...
:)
how sad... how can Without You not be an album track???
ReplyDeleteAnother excellent B-side that we'll never hear played live :(

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry Phoenix, when I say "bastards" I mean "lovely bastards" that I like a lot. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL craig!!
ReplyDeletei really hope it grows on me. musically - it feels lost. must be the rhythm.
porls cover art is the perfect match for the theme of the single/bside.
how has everyone heard it except me?
ReplyDeletemonkey- dont worry, i havent either.. :(
ReplyDeletei haven't heard it either :(
ReplyDeleteI'll probably receive my copies of the CD/7" from Ideal Copy early next week, and I'll just download the single and this from Itunes like I have done with the previous three...I just can't wait to get my hard copies to hear the songs!
i'm not posting any links to the song. but you guys just must not be looking hard enough.
ReplyDeleteTch! LULz
ReplyDeleteAmazon isn't shipping it fast enough....
Sorry Andy, nothing personal here but, I suppose we just HAVEN'T "looked" as hard as the rest of you, now have we?? Oh Ye Great Masters of HARD Looks. <8-I
and for that, I apologize.... FFFFFFFFFFFFF. >8F
and so on and so forth... lol
Don't freak out kids about people hearing it. I work at Barnes and Noble here in the states and I was able to listen to it. I pre ordered my copy the day it became available. We all get the support the artist. I think the majority does since they come here. Wink Wink......
ReplyDeletethese songs are the best ever..better than anything, better than the industrial revolution and the renaissance. The lyrical genius behind such gems as the recent singles suggests that these words will be quietly recited along greats such as wilde, rimbaud and shelly for years to come.
ReplyDeletethe depth and substance..wow.wow. wow.
ladies and gents..i do believe we have a magnum opus here...
perhaps someone here will while away their days analyzing and perhaps could give a dissertation on the astrological significance of natal charts to tattoos and how it relates to all things cure and the world we live in...(oh perhaps it's already been done)
brave new world ahead with songs like these :)
And i am excited about all the great remixers on the upcoming EP. Why would i ever spend money on an album that is really really great like portishead's third, when i can have this diamond in the ruff. And hey i can pretend i am buying it to support a good cause, like the red cross or amnesty or whatever charity flavour of the week. because everyone knows just how charitable we fans are...look at all the donations we made without the cure's name attached..it would add up to teens ;)
P.S.
What i do love most about us cure fans, especially the bloggers here and on the main website, is how loving, understanding and in absolutely no way whatsoever hostile to others we are. And also how we never ever lose our individuality and opinions ( as long as they adhere to what rob's is). I love tolerance...and a sense of humour.

ReplyDeletegetting it right. for once.
Me thinks you need to get out more, bunghole. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this song already! Unfortunately, It really pertains to my life right now!
ReplyDeleteFrom Pitchforkmedia,
ReplyDeleteEmo All Stars Remix the Cure on Charity EP
Beyond The Nightmare Before Christmas (and bad memories of seventh grade, I suppose), there's simply no greater influence on modern arena-emo than the Cure. As a way of saying "thnks fr th mmrs" to the OGs of tuneful teardrops, some of the genre's biggest names have offered up remixes of Cure tunes for an EP titled Hypnagogic States. But they won't be taking on the classics. Nope, all of the remixes will be of songs that are set to appear on the Cure's forthcoming album.
Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy do their thing to "The Perfect Boy", decent actor/crappy musician Jared Leto of 30 Seconds to Mars tackles "The Only One", Gerard Way of the mighty My Chemical Romance gives it to "Sleep When I'm Dead", and Jade Puget of AFI has his way with "Freakshow". What's more, Cure tourmates 65 Days of Static turn in "Exploding Head Syndrome", apparently some sort of megamix of all four singles.
The set is due on CD and digitally September 13 from Suretone/Geffen, with all artist royalties going to the International Red Cross. (Everybody involved here is a big fan of blood.)
As for "The Perfect Boy", well, it's not out yet, though that's about to change. The latest single from the Cure's still-untitled LP is due on CD, 7", and digitally August 13 from Suretone/Geffen. It's backed by the non-album B-side "Without You".
The new album is out October 13, pushed back precisely one month since our last report.
Hypnagogic States:
01 The Only One (remixed by Jared Leto from 30 Seconds to Mars)
02 Freakshow (remixed by Jade Puget from AFI)
03 Sleep When I'm Dead (remixed by Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance)
04 The Perfect Boy (remixed by Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy)
05 Exploding Head Syndrome (all four singles, remixed by 65 Days Of Static)
Tracks are up on iTunes in the US now...

Sean- I know, it's not that big of a deal. I'm not angry at anyone... just a little bitter and sarcastic. I'm allowed, yeah?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to get a physical copy of this baby my hands. Cure music DEMANDS to be lovingly stroked and caressed, says I!
