HOLY SHIT! It sounds AMAZING! The Perfect Boy sounds...well, PERFECT! I am totally loving Without You...Beautiful. I have a feeling it may be my favorite b-side as of yet.
I'm getting less and less excited about this album. None of the studio versions of the singles do much for me. I like most of the b-sides, but Without You just sounds weird and unfocused, though it's hard to tell from such a brief clip. I think the overall production of the tracks just isn't working for me. It's starting to feel redundant and boring to me.
I'm still hoping for some nice surprises come October, but I'm losing faith.
I think they both sound great. I wasn't sure about Without You until I heard Robert go high in the singing and is there a little piano in the background? Sounds great!
I really do love love love TPB and I'm so glad to hear another clip from the center of the song. It's going to be my favorite of the 4 A-sides, I can tell.
But like JPX said, I also couldn't get a feel for WY. I don't know, maybe I need to hear the intro first - sounded very flat to me.
David: I was trying to figure out the time signature, too. I'll have to listen to the snippet again today to be sure, but I think I got the sense that a little bit of it was in 5 from what I heard last night. I'd love to see them use unconventional time sigs!!
I think the Perfect Boy will be the best single yet, but the snippet of WY was really underwhelming. The b-sides have gradually gotten worse. NY Trip is excellent and so is All Kinds of Stuff, Down Under is so-so and WY sounds awful.
I dunno what to say about either, I'm gonna have to wait and hear the whole thing. I mean the instrumental part of Without You sounds pretty cool, but Robert is just all over the place it seems. I thought the same from AKOS, which makes me think of The Top. Maybe he's trying something new that works in the grand scheme of the record. So far SWID is my favorite A-side, Down Under is my favorite B-side.
perfect boy sounds absolutely stunning, so much energy in his voice again, 2004's album, he was burnt, bored with the band, but you can here the youth again.

I am glad he chose at least one artist that I myself find respectable to do a remix of all four (65 DOS). I will take a wait and listen approach for the others. :-)
I like the cover a lot! And the title really grew on me.
I noticed the sly comment about schedules... makes me a bit nervous, but oh well, not much I can do about it! :-)
Yeah, I think Bob want us all sweaty. He is probably annoyed at all the childish reactions so he's like "Grow up or I'll push the album back a few more months with promise of it coming out with a free Charlotte concert DVD then change my mind and watch you sweat some more."
lol. Yeah, you can keep it in sight, you just have to warn people glancing at it that the first 4 songs are typos and can't actually be found on the disc. Simple.
I have finally decided after long and careful deliberation that there IS indeed room for two david's. we'll just always have to disagree about everything - and dramatically - in order to distinguish ourselves. DL
Perry: Again, that is NOT the track list. That has been floating around for months and has been debunked already. Someone took the titles that are known or that were announced last year, and made up a fake track list.
I'm waiting until I get the whole single to listen to these songs. I just listened to "Freakshow" for the first time last Sunday. It sounds amazing, though maybe a bit too short. However, maybe I wouldn't appreciate it if it were longer. I love that little piano moment, too! I hope there's more sombre stuff a la Apart/Trust/The Drowning Man/To Wish Impossible Things/A Letter to Elise, though. I really miss those beautiful, romantic/suicidal (in the case of The Drowning Man) lyrics!
okay after hearing that clip you just posted i have more of an idea of the full song. it will take some getting used to, i think. i loved the live version. this sounds less exciting to my ears. but i am sure it will grow on me. or i hope it does. if not, i will still have the mighty freakshow to make love to. :-)
the vocal effects annoy me on this song.. whereas on freakshow they enhance it, i am not sure they enhance it on this song. i like the more stripped down live version. i hope this studio version grows on me cuz right now i dont care for it much.
That beautifully melodic, 12-string acoustic strumming in the earlier verses of Without You--along with the more subdued singing--marks it as my favorite b-side for sure. (I'm going off of the second snippet here). The louder "kick in" will grow on me.
"clockwise cat" i totally agree with you. i hate the vocal effects on PB. took a wonderful song and just blew it away. hope it grows on me. hopefully they dont do the same with the studio version.
at least i have the live recording :)
oh, without you, why is robert trying so hard to sing?? from what i heard if didnt try so hard, it would of been a great song.
..of course is a studio version. But it's "mix 13" version, so it's a sort o radio or commercial version (shorter etc). I suppose the real mix will be a little bit different..especially one the vocals, less echoes. Perfect Boy is almost ruined by that stupid effects. Still a GOOD song. Like the development a la lost of the song..horizontal way. The song growing gently..apart from the vocals, it's just like the live version was. .. The other one, Without You... it's doesnt make any sense. It's a sort of energic pop, tuneless..quiet generic melody with Smith that tries so much..but nothing really happens.
1.) it's felt in 9/4. that's flippin awesome. not quite into the math-rock waters, but still shakes it up a little.
2.) sitar?! ooooooooh girl...
3.) despite the lack of a riff to hang your hat (bondage pants?) on, the Perfect Boy is really engaging. I'm a vocal delay whore (please tell me I'm the first one to say that on the internet), and I think it's tastefully done.
4.) speaking of rifflessness, anyone hear that same species of hammer-on in the Perfect Boy as in Friday I'm in Love? Like, omigosh, maybe they're both in D and the "tape sped up."
5.) I like numbered lists.
6.) That would be a great Cure album title: Numbered Lists.
7.) /random: Anyone listen to Hammock? Who the flip knew they had a new album out this year? It completely lacks guitars and percussion. Just the gentle afterglow of a recent yet tragic smile-factory explosion.
Out and about running errands today, and I tried to buy TPB single at two different locations. First tried my cherished indie haunt, but to no avail. Then I tried the dreaded chain store, Border's; they actually HAVE it in stock but are directed not to sell it 'til Tuesday. DAMMIT! I really need to hear the full thing to hopefully dispel my misgivings, and I don't want to WAIT! Oh well... :-P
they vocal effects on PB are weird but i like them, the longer preview made me like it even more, and i looooove Without You, it sounds perfect! i love that it has acustic guitar, i thought there was no way in hell The Cure would do an acoustic song now, but what do you know eh? its good, its good its goooood:)
is polydor still the label that works with the cure? isnt it geffen from universal? or something like that? why does it appear on the Juno page that polydor is the label??
HOLY SHIT! It sounds AMAZING! The Perfect Boy sounds...well, PERFECT! I am totally loving Without You...Beautiful. I have a feeling it may be my favorite b-side as of yet.
ReplyDeleteWithout You sounds kinda Down Under/Fake/Dredd Song... it's superb. Best B-Side for sure. Well... best song of all the singles for me. ;)

ReplyDeletePerfect Boy sounds terrific! I can't get a sense of the b-side.
ReplyDeleteI can't listen for some reason. Oh well. Wednesday is not that far away. I like the clip at the official, though.
ReplyDeleteWithout You is the first release that I am NOT excited about. This snippet is not appealing to me at all :(
ReplyDeleteNot quite sure about WY; the sample on Buecher doesn't "show it all".
ReplyDeleteTPB though, I think as it all!
elise: *running hug*!!
ReplyDeleteJM *running tackle* I always seem to miss you on here
ReplyDeleteHope all is well in your world
I think that's probably because we live in opposite sides of the world... gravitational forces are to blame.
ReplyDelete;)
can you guys catch the time signature on Without You? is it in like 5/4? have the Cure been listening to 65daysofstatic?
ReplyDeletePS I saw there was another David on here (who didn't like the people remixing the singles)... hi other david!
I'm getting less and less excited about this album. None of the studio versions of the singles do much for me. Hi David - is the COF world big enough for two David's?
ReplyDeleteI think they both sound great. I wasn't sure about Without You until I heard Robert go high in the singing and is there a little piano in the background? Sounds great!
ReplyDeleteI finally was able to hear the clip. I am reserving final judgement until the single release. I am rather impatient to wait, but whatever.
ReplyDelete(What did I tell you?... It didn't take so long, huh?)
ReplyDeletefanta-see - huh?
ReplyDeleteElise! - Do you mean "Fanta-longtimetosee"??? :oP
ReplyDeleteLOL - I wish I had thought of that

WOW!!!! Can't wait till Tuesday!!! LOVE The Perfect Boy and from what I hear of Without You sounds nice!!!

I think it's 3/4
Nice tune.
It's kind of hard to tell if Without You will be the best of the B-Sides. Need to hear the complete song before I say anything else.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm loving The Perfect Boy! It sounds wonderful and you can't beat that artwork on the cover! :)
David: I was trying to figure out the time signature, too. I'll have to listen to the snippet again today to be sure, but I think I got the sense that a little bit of it was in 5 from what I heard last night. I'd love to see them use unconventional time sigs!!

ReplyDeletei like how it sounds, WY sounds good very much like NY and DU as far as i can tell. and i also discovered there is another carlos posting here:) haha
ReplyDeletethere's only one genital ben!
ReplyDeleteI dunno what to say about either, I'm gonna have to wait and hear the whole thing. I mean the instrumental part of Without You sounds pretty cool, but Robert is just all over the place it seems. I thought the same from AKOS, which makes me think of The Top. Awww! I LOVE TPB!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, SO beautiful.
:)
I also love BP&J. :P
ReplyDeletei have no idea anymore. they're all blurring like watercolors for me at the moment.
ReplyDeleteexcept for down under. i still love down under.
just 2 more months (maybe)...
perfect boy sounds absolutely stunning, so much energy in his voice again, 2004's album, he was burnt, bored with the band, but you can here the youth again.

ReplyDeletewhat happened to roberts voice? it sounds horrible. or better: the way he tries to sing is horrible!
ReplyDeleteMain site has been updated with news for Hypnagogic States, go check it out!!
ReplyDeleteI think the 4 singles mash-up mix by 65daysofstatics is making me curious, to say the least.
TPB sounds WONDERFUL!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for this one.
I am glad he chose at least one artist that I myself find respectable to do a remix of all four (65 DOS). I will take a wait and listen approach for the others. :-)

Oh my I saw that comment too cat & thought oh no here we go again!
ReplyDeleteAnd it's cool that 65 DOS remixes will be included too. But with a name like "Exploding Head Syndrome", I just wonder how loud it will be?
ReplyDeleteCover art looks good too but I kind of wished it was something totally new but I do love the colors.
Yeah, I think Bob want us all sweaty. He is probably annoyed at all the childish reactions so he's like "Grow up or I'll push the album back a few more months with promise of it coming out with a free Charlotte concert DVD then change my mind and watch you sweat some more."
ReplyDeleteLOL!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThank god for 65days. I thought this EP was going to be an embarrassing purchase -- something I'd get and then firmly deny owning.
ReplyDeleteBut I love me some 65daysofstatic. :D
lol.
ReplyDeleteYeah, you can keep it in sight, you just have to warn people glancing at it that the first 4 songs are typos and can't actually be found on the disc. Simple.
Sounds like someone is twisting Roberts nut sack while he sings Without You. I don't like it, but we will see.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they set themselves up for the fall after the release of the gob smacking awesomeness of Down Under.
Perfect Boy sounds good though.

It's at least tied with Down Under.
Perfect Boy is surely the best of the A-sides.
PS you can really tell Porl's back with the return of the sitar overlaying the acoustic stuff I just mentioned...:)
