The Perfect Boy lyrics

Best Cure single in ages! I absolutely love it!

The Perfect Boy (Mix 13) - 3:23

You and me are the world, she said
Nothing else is real
The two of us is all there is
The rest is just a dream

Always meant to be, I can feel it
Like a destiny thing
Written in the stars
Inescapable fate, yeah it's out of my hands
Falling into your arms

And I don't want to get innocent
But I would love you to take my time
We're on the edge of a beautiful thing, she said
Come on, let's stay here for awhile

Oooooh girl, he is the one for sure
Oooooh girl, he is the perfect boy

Yeah, me and you are a world, he said
But not the only one I need
The two of us is never all there is
That doesn't happen for real
If it was meant to be us, it was meant to be now
Don't see the sense in wasting time
If you're so sure about this (love kismet hearty thing?)
You know tonight, you're mine

And I don't want to get obvious
But I have to be gone by three
We're on the edge of a beautiful thing, he said
So come on, jump with me

Oooooh girl, he's not the one for sure
Oooooh girl, he's not so wonderful
Oooooh girl, he's not the one for sure
Oooooh girl, he's not the perfect boy....at all

You and me are the world, she said
Nothing else is real
The two of us is all there is
The rest is just a dream

And her heart may be broken a hundred times
But the hurt will never destroy
Her hope, the happy ever after girl
One day finds the perfect boy

(Thanks to V for putting this together with me)

  1. Excellent Craiggers! But could you post the Without You lyrics too? Even just a rough transcription?

  2. Rest assured, the COF team is hard at work on it at this very moment.

    ReplyDelete
  3. There is a team?

Anyway I think they have saved the best 'till last. I hope this one gets more Radio airplay. It's more friendly for that medium than the others but I'm not holding my breath.

  4. Excellent-er still, Craig! I wait with bated breath!

  5. awww, I think these could be the best lyrics of the singles!
I'm really loving the narrative. I wonder if the b-side lyrics will be even better??
Something tells me the two songs on this single are going to catch fire... with the fans at least!

    Thanks Craig!

  6. Okay, I can't stay away, and I suck for being so judgmental about the EP (and other things)...

Just wanted to say that imo Robert's verse is as good as ever, if not better. I'm loving both songs.

  7. 7bluestars- don't feel bad about being judgmental, we've all been there as crazy Cure fans. Personally, I think SWID and FS are the weakest of the singles.

  9. Tx, helsabot. Actually, getting my knickers in a twist made for a much-needed psychic house cleaning, as it were.

As far as I'm now concerned, who does what on the EP is of absolutely no consequence. I really do hope that it draws young fans into the fold. If that's what Robert needs to be happy, then by all means, I want it to happen.

    Peace, Jedi(?), onwards, etc... ;-)

  10. I love this song!

I think this album is going to be Huge. I keep saying it because I believe it. That, and my handy-dandy Cure Crystal Ball tells me so.

  11. How great do you think it is, Craig? Best single since "Wish", since Bloodflowers?

  13. Not too crazy about the echo/delay effects on the vocals, but the song is very good.

The album sounds promising, but right now I need some vintage Cure - long intros/outros, and some wicked bass VI riffs/solos. It sounds just like UTS.

  14. I like the B-side better. Shoulda flipped it.

  15. my lip wiggled a little bit at the end.

    was he talking about me?

    ReplyDelete
  16. ok, what i hear on the line that you're not sure about is:

If you're so sure about this love, kiss me harder dear.

    -------------

and this song is simply wonderful!!!

  17. Sofia: funny, I thought he was talking about me!

    j/k <3

  18. Anah, Sofia- you're both daft, he's talking about meee! and you're already married Sofi, what cracks could possibly still exist in your heart?

I like this one 'cause it's easy to sing along too. Unlike SWID.
I sort of get that SWID is SUPPOSED to be inane, but that doesn't make me want to sing along with it at the top of my lungs, especially when I'm by myself, you know? I love singing along to Cure songs, but I don't think
I can with that one. GIVE IT THE BUNNY AND... I'll pass.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Morris: That makes more sense, but I just can't hear it.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Craig: yeah... LOVE sounds strange, more like he's singing lurve...

ha, hope he posts the lyrics soon :)

  21. I'm hearing

    But the heart
    Will never destroy
    Her hope

  22. helsa, i'm engaged :)
my hunny is far away but he's definitely my Perfect Boy!

  23. Seriously, Craig. I'm not trying to be a smart-ass. I'm curious about how you feel about it. I won't listen to it until after I get the physical single myself.

    ReplyDelete
  24. In lieu of Craig's opinion, I think this A-Side is the best since Maybe Someday; but if you pull the that-was-a-promo, not-a-single card, then that makes this my favorite Cure A-Side since... well, I love Strange Attraction. So that. But there's an argument for Cut Here....

    [And congratulations, Sofia.]

  25. Muld: At this moment, I'd say it's the best pop single since Just Like Heaven. And the best overall since Fascination St.

But that's just my opinion. And it's still early days. But I know I love it. And it's definitely my favorite of the last 3 albums.

And as always, Simon rocks the frakking world!

  26. these lyrics make me cry. so simple and sweet. god i fucking love the cure. goodnight.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Are they supposed to rend the heart? I ask because they do, over and over again.

He does indeed have a very fine pen.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wow, Craig! High praise for this song! I have to say, I'm actually really glad YOU like it so much; it would be... uncomfortable to have you think it was shit. "The Cure's got a new single out; I don't remember the name right now."* So I guess your enthusiasm makes this site more enjoyable for me -- as I'm sure it must for you too.

"You and me are the world & nothing else is real" is a line that will be reverberating in my mind for the next few weeks. It's one of THOSE lines. To me, anyway. One of those lines that you can sort of remove from its own context and apply to every day emotions and experiences.... If any of that makes sense. I'm done for the night.

*Which isn't to say you ever HAVE had this kind of reaction, mind.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I agree with you Craig, best Cure single for a long time!

  30. BEST.SINGLE.THIS.ALBUM

    My lyric suggestions:

If it was meant to be us, it was meant to be now
Don't see the sense in wasting time
If you're so sure about this "love, kiss me hard in here" You know tonight, you're mine

And her heart may be broken a hundred times
But "the hurt" will never destroy
Her hope, the happy ever after girl
One day finds the perfect boy

  31. Thanks for your appraisals, Craig and Tyler. I also liked Strange Attraction, but the TLC vibe has always embarrassed me; great lyrics (the "can I use some of your lipstick" line can only be applied to Robert, but it's still fun) and nice melody; I just wish the arrangement (if that's what it's called) or style were different.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I love this song as well...Too bad we won't be able to get in on the radio at all.

    ReplyDelete
  33. T: I think they are supposed to rend the heart, yes. I think we can all relate to the sense of unreciprocated love, as it were. Actually, these lyrics remind me very much of my experiences in college, especially with one guy, someone I though I "loved" but who only wanted a casual fling. Actually, my experience since high school has been that - me falling head over heels and the guys being rather flippant about it. Liking me, but acting like "guys" - i.e., casual and "cool." Okay, I've said too much about myself. At least I found "The Perfect Boy" finally. :-)

I love the symmetry of the lyrics, the elegant simplicity... I actually think RSX has honed his verse over the years. Many people have said he has "lost it" lyrically - but I just don't see it. BF lyrics are some of the best ever. He doesn't seem to do the free association thing as much anymore, but whatever: he has so many interesting lyrical styles, and it keeps me intrigued.

FS lyrics are my favorite of all of these, though.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It's a great song, but I do wish the arrangement had a little more "interest" to it. It seems to be all about the vocals. I was hoping the studio version would reveal more detail, but not so...

    ReplyDelete
  35. not being cool enough to have actually heard the songs yet, i think the perfect boy lyrics are nice, straightforward and simple, however, re: without you (go to the other thread to read!):

    ReplyDelete
  36. I didn't get into this song during the tour, but I am loving the studio version and now that I know mostly all the words, I love it even more!!!

Also, I LOVE HOW THE CURE IS GIVING THEIR PROCEEDS TO CHARITY FOR THE REMIXES!!!!!!

  37. I am going on vacation when this single comes out, so I HAD to get it early. I'm definitely buying it though, like I did all the other singles...

Anyway I LOVE this song. Live I thought it sounded like a generic Cure song, but I think now it's the best pop single since FIIL. Has a nice little narrative to it. At first I thought it was going to have a theme like TG&B, like he wants truth goodness and beauty in a girl but she doesn't think she's those things. That song was the search for the perfect girl, this one's for the perfect boy. But that boy doesn't exist....so far.

  38. Absolutely loving this! It's a tie with Freakshow I think, definately the best single since Friday I'm In Love (in my opinion). This album is going to be Huge! I'm loving Bloodflowers but think this new album is going to be the best since Wish, doubt it will top said one though..

  39. HMV took my money yesterday, so I'm very hopeful it'll come tomorrow (Monday)

I remember hearing this a few months ago when the live version was first posted up and sitting there spellbound

i hear what folk are saying about riffs/detail - but i think 'less is more' here - part of the joy of music for me is infilling riffs over the top in my head - and the soaring 'wooooah' gets me every time

to give that sense of a massive song with a very simple arrangement is an art - this is top notch Cure

and yes Craig, the bass makes you fetch that low slung air bass out and thrum along

    ReplyDelete
  40. THE STUDIO VERSION OF THIS SONG WILL GROW ON ME, RIGHT?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Clockwise: Yes, trust me, it will. :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. PROMISE V?

I TRUST YOU, SO DON'T LIE!!

    >:-[

    ReplyDelete
  43. Clockwise: Yes, I promise!

Cross my heart and hope to die,
Stick a needle in my eye!

    ReplyDelete
  44. RSX just sent me the full TPB.

I am listening to it now and loving it.

Forget what I said before. My doubts have been expelled. TPB rocks my mammaries.

Always trust V. She is NEVER wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Craig, feel free to delete my comment. RSX didn't actually send me TPB.

    Porl did.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Clockwise: See, told ya so! Woo hoo!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. I love it... the sound effects during the second chorus fit the song very well. And I love the little intro... :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. I have ADORED this song since I first heard it in Fairfax, Virginia.

My copy has shipped from Amazon.com, and I CANNOT WAIT!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. This one definitely deserves a cool videoclip, Cure style!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Cat, why do you refer to Robert Smith or RS as "RSX"? What's the X about?

Also, I'm getting excited about this, based on the comments of those like genital ben who weren't awed by it live. I'd say it was my least favorite of the new stuff, since, I, too, found it a bit generic. I still hope they equal "Friday I'm in Love" for me with some song on this new album; the intertwining guitar lines still amaze me! So original. We must have more Wish calibre!

  52. "the best single in recent years has been cut here" i said

"there will always be people who agree" i said

"then again there won't" you said

"wait i forgot who said what" they said?

"gotta love sycophants" i always say

seems it will never be this way
it will always be this way...

there is the next 15 cure songs...just mix the words up a bit and use the grab bag token words here:

dream, wish, heart, perfect, stars, angel, kiss...
    :D

  53. Best cure single in a looooooong time.
I just heard the 4 (mix 13) singles in a row in my car and they all sounded awesome (being only one the least favorite) this album is going to be great!

    ReplyDelete
  54. omg! another useless and boring single!

i'm so disappointed of all the new tracks. i'm afraid the next album will be the worst and most boring cure album ever! i can't stand the way robert sings on the new tracks.

simon and jason should better watch out for another band - they are wasting their talent! so sad.

i wish the band had stopped after the trilogy shows (2002 was one of their best live-years ever) or at least after 2004. for me they did...
