Julien-K remixing SWID

From the Julien-K Myspace page:
"Cure Remix with Gerard Way
We just started a remix of the Cure's new single "Sleep When I'm Dead" with Gerard of My Chemical Romance. It has to be turned in Monday so expect to hear it very soon. All the proceeds of the sale of this single will be going to Amnesty International."

  1. Okay, I don't care who does the remix, but I'm not buying something with sounds of the guy from My Chemical Romance. That's just too lame. What's next? Fall Out Boy? Panic! at the Disco?

These bands give the subtle emotionalism and gothic elements of The Cure a bad name. The give journalists an excuse to paint a brush over The Cure's legacy.

Also, they're just bad musicians. They're commercial and I don't know how Robert can say Duran Duran represented everything he hated about the '80s, despise Morrissey and dismiss U2 as unoriginal at the height of their artistic greatness, and then have anything to do with My Chemical Romance -- the most forced, commercial garbage around?

  2. I'm not excited about this bit of news at all.

muld I was gonna say the same thing about Fall Out Boy and Panic!, I was going to say those exact bands. Wierd.

I don't understand either really, maybe he's flattered by their ripping off his look in a way. And those bands he hates, maybe he feels competition from them, even though he shouldn't, they don't fill the same 'niche' and they're not as good.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Our agreement just proves how obvious it is to anyone that these bands are so commercially driven in occupying that niche. I also seriously doubt their fans will give The Cure a try, but I could be wrong. However, there IS a strong correlation between liking The Smiths and liking The Cure, I suspect.

He was right about Duran Duran and even Morrissey to some degree, but they're a lot better than these newer bands, who are just shameless! They also have crappy melodies, so I just don't understand the younger age group today.

  4. i prefer the chemical brothers remix before chemical romance ,its very more descent.

  5. *tears*

please not this. why, robert, why them?

they are going to ruin the song.

  6. I'm aghast at this information.

This isn't the right direction for these remixes to be going in.

  7. Personally, I think the latest Panic! At The Disco CD is brilliant....but hey, that's my opinion.

I won't say I hate it until I actually hear it.

Although...I was hoping that Trent Reznor woukd be involved...

  8. Everyone here should really give this stuff a chance.

  9. exclusive.......

  10. i dont love this...but there is worse, much much worse than my chemical romance.

  11. Pretty funny, ram!

What's wrong with actual DJs or something? Why people who suck at making music in the first place? Maybe it turned out okay and Robert chose it after he heard it, or maybe I already feel Robert getting annoyed at us for being supposedly snobbish and exclusive. It's just a matter of taste, Mr.Smith. Just like the Ashley Simpson rumor, it's because we love The Cure and hate to see it lessened.

  12. "Although...I was hoping that Trent Reznor would be involved..."

I was hoping the same thing; Trent or Brian Molko of Placebo would have been great.

At the moment Gerard has the benefit of the doubt; I'm keeping open-minded until I actually hear it. After all, he could never be as irritating as Saffron managed to be...

  13. Just give it a chance. I'm not a fan of this so called "Emo" bands at all but the most of them quote The Cure as one of their main influences. And although I can't hear that out of their music they should give it a try. Maybe different people were given the chance to remix the four singles until monday and then Robert will decide which remixes are the best and to include on Hypnagogic States. Or their will really be more than just one EP. Let's wait and see...

    ReplyDelete
  14. doesnt it say julien k are remixing it? there not an emo band...what you lot on about?

    ReplyDelete
  15. gard was only with them they say .. not his band remixing the track

  16. Dead Boy Craved, it says this DJ is working with the singer of My Chemical Romance, which is a terrible shameless band; he thinks he's a lot deeper than he is. He's so bad he doesn't realize how bad he is.

Also, why would people buy a remix by a guy whose musical ability sucks?

If charity is the point, I'd rather give money directly to a homeless guy than spend it on the EP if it sucks because only the proceeds go to Amnesty. If the EP is of no use, the money is better spent another way. U2 released a crappy collaboration with Green Day over a cover song, the proceeds of which were to go to help in the wake of Katrina. I didn't buy it because it sucked, but it doesn't make me a bad person. I try to help a bit in other ways. The artist has to put out something we want, right?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Because a good way to nip something in the bud before it's comes into fruition is to complain about it. Besides, it's our right to complain. There's no sign anything by the singer of My Chemical Romance will be good at all.

Of course, we'll listen to it, but we already have a pretty good idea it won't be good -- at least I do. The guy's myspace page says he's still working on it. Hopefully, Robert will dismiss it if it sucks because My Chemical Romance is not a band you want to give the benefit of the doubt or that even deserves any more publicity.

    Next up: Evanescence.

And you don't have to take such a rude tone about it, either.

  18. so andrew how is me saying listen to a record before you complain about it idiotic.. explain that to me please

    ReplyDelete
  19. this is fun tho eh?:)

    ReplyDelete
  20. what is your gripe lol;?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I don't have a personal "gripe" with you at all. However I'm just asking you to show a little respect to other peoples views without insulting their tastes.

    ReplyDelete
  22. although you felt fine to insult me... im merely saying its very tiresome to hear such negativety all the time,, esp before a record has even been heard, i come on here coz im a cure fan and craig does a great job at keeping all the lastest news available.. but to hear all the suppossed fans dissing what i think is a great band all the time isnt why i read this site- if i wanted to read stuff like that i could read the nme instead. ive got no problem with people having different opinions andrew , in fact i like a good arguement lol but when it just seems like moaning fr moanings sake it s a bit much.AS for the tine thing ,, i swear - im scottish ,, there was no tone in my head , it s how i speak -if its misunderstood when its read by others then so be it but the swearing wasnt the point at all

    ReplyDelete
  23. tone thing that should be

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well, as long as they don't sing

    ReplyDelete
  25. Andrew, muld, don't feed the trolls...

The bright side could be this, we know they are remixing this single and if Robert approves it will be on the EP. Well Robert could reject it and totally piss them off, that way we'll have a good remix that Robert approved on the EP, and at the same time MCR gets insulted and humiliated. It's a win win situation. Could this be Robert's genius showing? I sure as hell hope so.

    ReplyDelete
  26. i always thought My Chemical Romance would do a great job covering Siamese Twins. So maybe this remix by Mr. Gerard Way himself will prove to further interest him with The Cure.

    ReplyDelete
  27. More of the same then is it, chicken littles? :^D

    ReplyDelete
  28. The Only One (fuck off mix)
    Freakshow (moan mix)
Sleep When I'm Dead (ugly word that unfortunately refers to the female genetalia and starts with a "C" mix)
The Perfect Boy (A Perfect Boy mix)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Julien-K IS a band.

Apparently they've toured with Korn and Mindless Self Indulgence, among others, so they've worked with more "mainstream" bands. I have NO idea what the dude from MCR is doing here.
If I remember correctly, and I might not be, Robert said at one point that he was a "fan" of MCR, or liked them, or something to that effect.
I would hope that if Robert does accept their remix that it WILL be good. It seems like The Cure may be attempting to reach a more mainstream audience? Maybe it just looks that way to me?

And hair grease, Anah. *obelisk* :p

  30. Oh, and I like Down Under better. HAH!

    ReplyDelete
  31. @Genital Ben. Yeah I'm fed up of feeding that frustating troll lol.

I'm just glad this is a remix, not a Collaboration. I actually liked the Blink 182 mash up and the Korn one isn't the worst thing in the world, MCR however....I just can't see anything positive with that. (and yes I even know it isn't exactly MCR remixing the song but just their name associated with the Cure pisses me off).

    or.....
    the only one: chemical brothers

  36. D.j.Shadow would be a perfect fit for this e.p. Maybe Robert and Shadow should look into this...
    As for MCR.... uuummm....ok,i guess....
Should Robert actually support a hot topic band? When Hot Topic doesnt carry anything Cure???

  39. I know I have been very critical about this announcement, as much as many others have been, but I'm still excited to hear the remix. I'm all for being proved wrong. If they can knock this out of the park I'll be a happy man.

I'm not negative about the choice of artist, just cautious about a potential screw up. Can't blame me for that right?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hey, Maree's trying to criticize what she sees as “mob mentality”...
    Lets 'GIT 'ER!!!!
*storms out of aisle one* <:F

  41. I agree Andrew. Don't want to be overly pessimistic here... more like cautiously optimistic.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thats a nice spin on it Helsabot. Even though SWID is perhaps my least favorite of the singles, I still don't want it turned into something terrible. I am, however looking foward to hearing other peoples takes on the material no matter who it is at the helm.

  43. LMAO wally!

i just wish.. that he would work with artists we like . because for every artist that we hate and they mix - it couldve been someone we adored.

i thought robert knew our tastes, and im sure he does.

next up - AFI/blaqk audio remix. pray to the gods you dont believe in that I'm wrong.

  45. I like your idea of having Robert turn them down if it sucks, genital ben. Also, thanks, AndrewCurefan. I'm all for different opinions, and you're right it was about the tone. I was really just complaining about the bad judgment call of hiring that Chemical Romance guy, when there are probably so many folks ready to do it.

Who did the "Fascination Street", "Love Song", "Lullaby" and "A Forest" remixes? Those were pretty great. I'd be happy if whoever did those did these, but, some of you folks are right. It's not that big a deal. At least Robert isn't hiring Ross again to produce the album and abuse the members.

Remember when lots of folks thought that was a bad idea, deadboycraved? I personally had no opinion, though I hated Limp Bizkit, and was willing to wait and see. I wouldn't have called them whiners, but it turns out they were right. Even if Ross helped renew Robert's interest, his production, insistence on ego-centrically self-titling the album, and treatment of the members showed it was not a good choice. Also, the live vocals mostly sucked.

  46. Pretty cool-sounding recommendations, ram. I especially like the Damon Albarn one (because, even if I'm not a huge Blur or Gorillaz fan, that stuff is catchy) and Jarvis Cocker, though they might be hard to get. I'm a huge Pulp fan. Lots of non-Cure/non-Pulp fans seem to confuse Robert and Jarvis' voice, so Jarvis might actually be able to sing "The Only One" and fool them.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'd love to see M.I.A remixing Freakshow..that would be cool...

    ReplyDelete
  48. MIA and Freakshow sounds interessting!

  49. Remember when Celine Dion did that Guns 'n Roses cover?

    yeah.

    ReplyDelete
  50. i remember when celine dion did "you shook me all night long"

    jesus.

ive despised every band robert has collaborated with and you can quote me on that.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Dj Scribbles - I like Blaqk Audio and AFI.

    ReplyDelete
  52. andy - ive loved em for years. well the latter especially. but i dont think the majority of the fanbase would like it.

    - they mixed tokio hotel. nightmare i tell you.

    btw - jade
and I were both on the same road the other day (no i dont know which car was him!) - some guy blocked traffic because he was going to jump off the highway overpass.
    id just.. prefer them seperately.

  53. I am not familiar with Julien-K, so I will just wait and see. :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. I have no idea what Julien-K's music sounds like and I'm not a fan of MCR but I'm willing to take a listen and see how it turns out. It actually might be quite good or it could be biggest piece of remixed shit ever recorded. We just have to wait till next month to find out for sure. Some of my favorite remixes are actually done by bands or DJ’s I don't normally like. So hopefully it’s not half bad & maybe it will spark the interest of a few JK & MCF fans to check out The Cure.

I think that remixes are fun to listen to but they are just not as important as the official release. I always like the original recordings so much more and it’s quite rare for me to think a remix is better or just as good as the original recording. Remixes are just someone’s interpretation of the song and I don’t think we should get all that upset about who does what. I’m more worried about the Album than the EP & I just hope it comes out in October. We should be more interested in that than who does what remixes!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Sweet and tender, you are correct, open up your mind, the idea that the band should only work with people "fans" like is ludicrous and egomaniacal!

I also like AFI and Blaqk Audio, Davey is good friends with Robert, so it would make sense if they did do something for them!

Lets wait and see what happens!
