ReplyDeleteLooks like maybe the people who bought "Sleep When I'm Dead" went and bought the other 2 available singles while they were in the store, at least in the US.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like hopefully the momentum is starting to build for the band, fingers crossed the album will be well promoted and that they have someone working the PR market for them, geez I'd do it for a free copy of the new album in advance.

ReplyDeleteit's kind of sad, but i was talking to a friend yesterday about the Cure - and they were saying they used to love them & had no idea they had new stuff out - looks like it's up to us hardcore fans to make up for the mile wide holes in the promotion and get all these sleeping fans on board
ReplyDeleteGinge, the exact same thing happened to me the other day. A friend of mine really got into the 2004 album and then checked out their earlier stuff. I recently asked her if she had the new singles and had no idea what I was on about.
ReplyDeleteLike I said in the "traction" topic, I blame the 4 year album span (among other things). It's too big to keep casual fans interested in a band, especially when the band themselves barely bother to promote their return to anyone outside of their hardcore fanbase.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I really wanted them to break the 4-years mold, this time. I wanted a double album for 2007, the twentieth anniversary of Kiss Me X3.

I would much rather wait the 4 years inbetween albums than be subject to music that is ground out like a factory mill to satisfy the masses.
ReplyDeleteCreating music is an art form that is forced into a business model. You can't rush the artistic process.
I believe Robert's strict adherance to follow his muse and not give in to the pressure of the corporate pimps is a beautiful thing.
He follows his vision of The Cure and sometimes pisses off people in the process but for the greater good of his musical vision. It is not an easy task.
I could buy into the argument that it takes four years to produce a magnificent album and that you can't rush art or Robert Smith's vision.

ReplyDeleteAnd by 4 years between albums, I want to add that I wish in a way that Robert and Co. did take 4 years to make an album... (not that it would necessarily make for a better album)...What I mean it's I don't think for a second that he takes those 4 years. He sure didn't start working on The Cure right after Bloodflowers.
He takes some time off, does other project, which is all fine and dandy, but my greedy self wish he would take less time off and start working like he used to in the eighties...
I wonder if things are different now that he's on a different label than he used to be. Maybe they pushed him to releasing them more frequently and not letting him branch out as much. I dunno. Most of the earlier albums were less than 40 minutes long. Then Kiss Me X 3 happened and they put out longer records, not to mention more complete b-sides by the time of The Top or so. For the untitled album the b-sides were better than most of the songs on the album. I guess Robert is still putting out a lot of music, he just has trouble putting records together.
ReplyDeleteI dunno, I'm rambling, I just don't fault him for taking a little longer if he wants to get it right. As long as I love the music he's given me I can't complain, and these singles are "da bomb" in my book.
Yeah, those singles are actually very good. I feel this album is going to be the best thing since Swiss cheese.

Well he said there will be different versions. So maybe there will be more than 4 different remixers, and hopefully a cd without the MCR remix.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they have sended requests out to different people to remix the songs and after monday deadline they'll decide which ones are the best and to include on the EP. Or different EPs with all the remixes. I don't know... I'd love to see Mogwai doing a remix for The Cure. The Perfect Boy could fit them.

Congratulations to The Cure! I'm Happy to see all 3 singles in The Top 10 US Hot Single Sales Chart. It will be way cool when The Perfect Boy comes out and The Cure can get maybe 4 singles into the Top 10! That would be unbelievable if it happens & I think it will!
