"You may remember I was collecting "Cure stories" for the Birmingham (UK) website Hagley Road to Ladywood along with my colleagues. Well, after 3 months the project is ready and it's going to be a permanent feature.
The feature is called "Secrets", The Cure Fan Special - It's a permanent database of Cure fans' stories from all around the world. There are first-hand accounts of how people first discovered the Cure, the song(s) that got them hooked up and what the band meant, and still means, to their daily lives. It's a quirky collection of anecdotes, secrets, stories and memories. " (Thanks Claude)

ive got to get up on this. especially now. i love reading everyone's stories!
ReplyDeleteraise your hand if you contributed!
*raises hand*
ReplyDeletei assume i'm just going to have to guess which is yours. ill take that challenge!
ReplyDeleteif you know my name, you'll be able to figure it out...
ReplyDeletehehehe, I've found you MB!
ReplyDeletethe cover girls... *snort* ;)
ReplyDeleteOoh, I found the Monkey, too! :)
ReplyDeleteMonkey: You didn't enjoy the Dream Tour? WTF? : )
ReplyDeletecraig, i thought the same thing when i re-read this. however, at the time, i was sort of at the lowest possible range of cure fandom i'd ever been in since i started listening to them.
ReplyDeletelooking back now, the setlist for the show i saw was freaking amazing. and i do remember having a good time. i think i was just tainted by not being blown away by their studio stuff.
I really wish I could see them live again...
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw them March this year for the first time, it was so surreal that I couldn't believe it was happening! I left the concert saying to myself: OMFG! I just saw The Cure! Live! *pinching, auch!*
And, yes, I starved that night! (ie, bought a T-shirt, couldn't resist). That and the ticket (that I've kept religiously) are probably the only proof I have of being there that night, that even until this day, still feels like a dream...
i wish i still had all the t-shirts i used to have. i had a ton. but i wore them so often, they pretty much fell off me. that or walked off on their own.
ReplyDeleteJupiter: I hang on to my ticket stubs, too, for the same reasons! I was so upset when I discovered that I had lost my stub for the Hamburg show in February. :( I dropped it at some point during the show and didn't notice it was missing until we got back to my friend's house that night... My friend gave me hers, but it's still not the same because it didn't have "my" seat number on it. It feels wrong that the remaining "proof" I have of actually having been there is now not quite right. :) Crazy, I know, but that was my favorite of the 4Tour shows I saw and I really would love to have my original ticket back so I can feel certain that yes, I really was there! :D
ReplyDeletev: how I really now what you mean!
ReplyDeleteMonkey: If it was radio hits you wanted, you should have went to Curiosa! ; )
ReplyDeleteV: Aww, you should have e-mailed me. I could have posted something, and maybe we could have gotten it back for you.
Speaking of ticket stubs, I have nearly every ticket for every concert I've ever been to. This comes as no surprise to V. ; )
At least I think I still have them. They were all bundled together in a plastic holder, but I haven't seen it in awhile. Might be time to do a search.
And I still have nearly all of my Cure concert t-shirts. I wore out a few from the Prayer Tour, but otherwise, I've still got them all.
: )
Monkey: If you don't mind me asking, what was the outcome of your future wife asking you to take down the Cure posters? Obviously it worked out for the two of you, but how long before they came down? Minutes or hours? : )
ReplyDeleteCraig: So sweet of you, but it would have been such a long shot that I would never have bothered you with it... I'm sure that it was left on the floor around my seat and that it ended up in the trash that night. :)
ReplyDeleteMinutes or hours? : )
ReplyDeleteYeah, Monkey, I'm curious about this, too! :D
i met her in september of 1997. as i recall, i moved out of that apartment in april or so of 1998. i took them all down then. so, months!
ReplyDeletei had some super fucking cool ones, too. i wish i'd kept them.
You got away with it, then.
ReplyDelete;)
(kidding!)
jupiter, i have gotten away with alot... :)
ReplyDeletei just remembered another thing. i bought the birdfish necklace on the wish tour. i wore that thing for the next two years til it finally broke in half. i loved that little guy.
Monkey: Sure...months...right. So you always went back to her place instead . ; )
ReplyDeleteactually, yeah. she never slept over at my place once. i only had a small twin bed and a succession of increasingly bizarre roommates. and she had a BIG roman bathtub... :D
ReplyDeleteStill have my Wish Tour bird-crab-thing. Wore him a few times, then put away for keeping.
ReplyDeleteAlso have the Dream Tour dog tags and, um, the Bloodflowers necklace.
Hey, I was just supporting the band! I never wore the thing.
Monkey: Well there you go. 'nuff said! : )
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteWho, me? Or Monkey and the BIG Roman bathtub? : )
ReplyDeleteSorry about that, I erased it because I knew it would get messy!
ReplyDeleteman, i got rid of so much useless stuff that i'm wishing i'd kept now. i also had the calendars from 91-95 or so. when did they stop making those?
ReplyDeleteJust to clarify:
ReplyDeleteMB lucky guy!
Craig: proven once again the wise man you are and I'm sure also very lucky!
So it can go both ways!
MonkeyButt: Ha, I had forgotten about the calendars! I had the one from 1992. :D
ReplyDeleteI know, typical isn't it.
ReplyDeleteIf I think of the posters I got rid of... the Wish promotional one that I grabbed from Swordfish in Brum the week of release...an old Head On The Door-era flag that I'd inherited from an older mate...
A huge Never Enough poster...
*PULLS HAIR ALL OUT*
Claude: Wow, that just reminded me that I think I have a Wish promo poster somewhere still. I have to look for it now! :)
ReplyDeletei still have all my shirts and posters!
ReplyDeleteback between bloodflowers and s/t i was thinking about putting the whole fucking lot on ebay and retiring to tahiti with the money i made, but now i'm glad i didn't!
i love my birdfish necklace. i never wear him anymore, but he's hanging on one of my mannequins. one of his fins is bent :c
sofia, can you take a picture of it sometime and email it to me? i'd love to get the nostalgic rush of seeing it again.
ReplyDeletemonkeybutt, haha. yeah i can do that. ill also send you a picture of my room in 1992. cure SHRINE. every damn inch covered in posters, clippings, fliers, calendars, patches...
ReplyDeleteoh those were the days. when you could get away with "decorating" with posters. damn adulthood!
Monkey: I don't know when they stopped making them. Have they stopped making them? Thought I posted something about them last year.
ReplyDeleteI still have one from 1990. Very cool Disintegration era photos. Very dark. Lots of red and black. And a classic Christmas photo with garland wrapped around their necks.
My favorite calendar ever!
Also have the 1992 Culture Shock calendar, but that's all Robert shots. : )
oh yeah! the best calendar was the one with the shots of the kites and moons and snowman etc... its so dreamy.
ReplyDeletemonekybutt - i cant find yours!! do you have a link?
ReplyDeletethis is fantastic, i love reading these stories, its really interesting to see how the band has affected people
if anyone sees a wish tshirt turned tank style dress, let me know!
Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI have my Wish tour necklace in my jewelry box! I thought about wearing it for the 4Tour, but decided that the flowers were enough! :)
I sent my story in today :)
ReplyDeletei cant wait to read it, jo! ;)
ReplyDeleteMaaaan, I wish I'd proof-read mine more carfeully before submitting it...
ReplyDeleteElise/Jo: I loved reading your story! Thanks for posting it. : )
ReplyDeleteawww shucks - thanks, Craig :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a great blog! I just love reading other fans stories & experiences about the band. I've got to submit one up on there myself soon.
ReplyDeleteI used to have a lot of Cure stuff too.....posters, t-shirts, magazines but the posters tore, magazines got tossed & the shirts fell apart. I should have taken better care of it but now when I get Cure Merchandise, I keep it in pristine condition. That stuff costs too much now to treat it so poorly.
Oh I forgot to say, Elise I love yours and I found monkeybutt's too. Both of your stories are great. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSofia, sure you can decorate with Cure posters as an adult, as long as they are limited-edition art prints, right? :)
