i forget. hot singles is based on sales? certainly couldn't be airplay...
ReplyDeleteYep, just sales.
ReplyDeleteSpanish are such smart, inteligent and I wish I had better English level to describe how I love them...
ReplyDeleteVery cool! The first new single to reach #1 in the US.
ReplyDeleteIt would be curious to know how this single is doing in the UK?
ReplyDeleteCraig, can you work your magic please?
I posted the UK charts on Monday. Sleep entered at #68.
ReplyDeletesorry craig, just noticed it a second ago going through earlier posts...
ReplyDeletebut thank you the same!
ReplyDeleteNo problem. : )
ReplyDeleteisn't jupiter the best?
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard it on the radio once in LA.
ReplyDeleteIt sucks that the singles performed so poorly in the UK. No wonder they only did one show here on the 4 tour.
ReplyDeleteWell done, The Cure!
ReplyDeleteIt's kinda crazy The Cure only did one show. I mean, they fracking live there! I'd feel ripped off if I were an Englishman.
sa devait être #1au canada aussi?
ReplyDeletese qu'il ma fait vraiment chier au québec sais que the cure ne soie plut connue et que le maudit hiphop sois plus populaire !!

ReplyDelete#1 on the US singles chart? Are you yanking my chain??
ReplyDeleteThat's so freaking cool! Congratulations, boys :)
And now.......more fire power for me. I'm calling that damn radio station again tomorrow. Better yet, I'll go down there with my singles in hand. Crappyradioland, SC is about to change. Muahahaha!
I just wrote emails to the local stations with a link to billboard. And ive been requesting SWID on a daily basis to no avail.
ReplyDeleteI got my local station to play SWID. But then again, I had to pay them $20 to do it. It was for one their frequent pledge drives. But they're a college run station, so you gotta help them out.
ReplyDeletePlus, I got a keychain out of the deal for my pledge. Now I'll be pursued by women and envied by men.
Holy good night Mary Ellen Ryan and all the saints in Ireland...
ReplyDeleteI just realized something. Caterpillargirl, are you the same Caterpillargirl from Myspace and The Cure's official site?
Damn. I should have picked up on that earlier. You remember me? I used to be kinda bitchy to you on the official site and then you found me on Myspace and I apologized and we became best buds? :)
How are you, sweetie? :)
My stupid earphones broke this afternoon, so I couldn't hear songs properly on my ipod. Anyway, either the speakers were only letting part of the sound come in or only one speaker was working, so I couldn't hear the main vocals, but I could hear faded delayed vocals for both "The Only One" and "NY Trip". "Maybe Someday" from a long ago recording session didn't have this. It was weird both "The Only One" and "NY Trip" had delayed faded vocals -- at least by a second or 2.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know why Robert would put this on the songs? Does it create a cool echo effect?

ReplyDeleteHoly shit! That's great news! Yay for The Cure! :D
ReplyDeleteThe Cure got a #1 single in the US? Well, I guess that means that they're going to quit playing now and break up, if Robert still stands by an age old threat.
ReplyDeleteJust to make this clear, The Cure are NOT #1 on the official Hot 100 chart. It's only the Hot Singles Sales chart. Still impressive though.

ReplyDeleteCureboy675 - is that you? :) I'd address you as your first name, but some people are kind of funny about that.
ReplyDeleteWhat's going on?
Hey, I figure I've been lurking around Cure sites for so many years there are probably a few people I've met and don't recognize because of different screen names.
Wow Congrats boys!!!
ReplyDeleteI looked a the that link and they beat out Madonna and she is in week one too! HAHA! Through the test of time CURE Fans are more dedicated than the material girls fans! :)
Yeah, but buying actual cd singles these days is just for those who want to collect. KWIM? It's for the fans. Honestly, there are alot of Cure fans that want hard copies of the music and that is amazing that they are #1 with Sleep in the US.
ReplyDeleteHowever, chain stores don't really stock singles anymore and The Cure doesnt't even have one song in the top 100 on the US or UK iTunes chart. :( :( :(
Does the Billboard Chart account for downloaded singles as well? Or just hard copies?
Number One in the US! Unbelievable! :)
ReplyDeleteWow well done to the Cure!!! It's amazing that SWID is the #1 for single sales in the US and The Only One & Freakshow are still doing good too! Very cool! :)
ReplyDeleteToo bad I hardly hear it on the radio. I've only heard it a few times the first few days after it was released but not so much now. I still request it but I don't think they will play it much again. So Sad!
